So Elite Con just made a FB post saying that there is no cosplay

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

So Elite Con just made a FB post saying that there is no cosplay allowed one week before the event.

What's your take on it?
>>
>no cosplay
>No panels, no guests
>Literally just dealers room for toys
>NObody had heard about it until it went viral

If they were calling it Elite Collectibles Show or Elite Expo literally nobody would give a fuck. Idiots on Facebook are seeing the word con, thinking it's a con, and screaming MUUH DISCRIMINATION.

>>9382206
Somebody figured out the perfect formula, just trigger a bunch of overly sensitive entitled morons that assume they own the privilege of doing anything they want.
>Cosplayers make conventions what they are, how dare they ban us!
>SHARE!
>Outraged friends list - HOW DARE THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST US! *click share* - repeat a thousand times
Yes, now cosplayers are a class of people that can be discriminated against

I think it would be the best thing ever is cosplayers show up in solidarity to protest, in cosplay, the horrible discrimination against their kind. I'm dying to see the drama unfold from that
>>
It's literally been the same rules for seven years. Not everyone likes cosplay and the owners can create the environment they want. People can chill.
>>
They haven't even defined what cosplay is. If someone walks in with a superboy shirt and jeans will they get kicked out?

I think that's my question. If I wear a sweet hoodie from Hot Topic, that's not a costume. What if I wear cool shoes? This is just a straight up stupid business practice and the managers are being idiots on their FaceBook
>>
>>9382381
Literally says first year con on their site.
>>
>>9383228
MY SIDES
>>
>>9383228
Well typically if you're there to buy serious high end collector stuff you would not bother dressing up in anything fancy like that
>>
>>9383256
high end toys are still just toys. I do collect. I don't wear a tail coat and monocle.
>>
>>9383256
>wearing a sweet hoodie/shoes
>dressing up fancy
Okay prom queen
>>
Total non issue because no cosplayer would be going to it in the first place.
>>
>>9383259
Just don't bitch when some cosplayer in large armor or props bumps into you and you drop and break your 4k toy
>>
>>9382378
The freak outs were really amazing to behold...
>>
This is a really, really obvious PR stunt. Now thousands of people who had no idea "Elite Con" existed know about it. Won't surprise me if in a few days they say "Due to public response, we have decided to allow cosplay at Elite Con, taking place March 12, 2017 in Tampa, FL. Buy your tickets now!" That way the dramu surrounding them calms down, but they still get all the publicity.

Like they say, any publicity is good publicity. Stay woke.
>>
The only people crying about it are the little special snowflakes that think the only cons in the world are comic con. Grow the fuck up!
>>
>>9383273
This. Why cosplaying to a con that has no cosplay related activities?
>>
Someone I'm friends with on FB was posting about the outrage, but they never cosplay to regular conventions and they were never going to this convention.

Then I explain how cosplayers get in the way, how they slam their bags on vendor tables for photos with complete disregard, how photo takers stop cosplayers from looking at merchandise etc and they just won't listen so it's like meh.

There is a time and a place for everything and literally hundreds of cosplay friendly conventions. If one convention says no cosplay, it's not the end of the world. Just don't go, and go to another convention.

People keep making big deals out of the stupidest things.
>>

People (unfortunately) cosplay all the time to Japanese cultural festivals which have nothing to do with anime or Japanese pop culture.
>>
>>9384111
>cultural festival
>have nothing to do with
>pop culture
>cultural
>culture
>cultural
>culture
>>
>>9384111
cuz anime and manga is Japanese, and many cultural festivals now includee events for those into cosplay to. The mistake idiot cosplayers make is they suddenly think its a cosplay event and get pissed off when people take photos or there's nothing to do for cosplayers besides a panel or two.
>>
>>9384130
Some cultural festivals are meant for traditional stuff, not Pokémon and Hatsune Miku.
>>
>>9383490
What publicity?
It's dogmatic horseshit
>Crappy local one day convention worth 25 bucks in the middle of Florida - so what, will never attend it
>Crappy local one day convention now bans cosplay - FUCK THEM I'M BOYCOTTING THESE ASSHOLES.

There are people in my friends list in the New England area that are now boycotting a single day convention that has no events, in a genre they don't care for, 1,500 miles from where they live. They're acting as though they are making a difference.
>>
>>9382206
People here in the UK are getting so buttmad it's hilarious.

Like calm down kid. You can barely afford to go to MCM.
>>
>>9382367
This.

This con has had this name and this set up and this rule for seven years and nobody gave a shit. They posted a very polite and informed FAQ on the issue and mentioned that they actually had an increase in ticket sales since the outrage went viral.

It's such a non issue. I'm getting really annoyed at my friends who are trying to make it a witch hunt
>>
>>9383228
The didn't steal the photo, they have the rights to use it.

>>9383901
This. Definitely do not want at a marketplace where the collectibles can often be hundreds and thousands of dollars
>>
>>9384376
They stole the photo because even the photographer chimed in and said they never contacted him to use it or credited him as outlined by his Flickr's policy on its usage
>>
>>9384372
http://eliteconflorida.mysimplestore.com/terms

It was only recently that the text above was added. No mention of no cosplay was added to the terms of conditions until after badges sold

Not to mention it never described what is cosplay? Would I get kicked out for wearing a superboy shirt and jeans? What about if i had dyed hair and a trench coat and a top hat? That last one is not cosplay but a costume. Dress codes are usually defined and the problem with banning cosplay is that the community can't even define what is cosplay let alone define what not to do
>>
>>9384895
These hypotheticals are hilarious, you should go there and as an experiment, dress as Sheldon Cooper wearing a Flash T-shirt and yell Bazinga! every 10 seconds and see if they give a shit. If you're on /cgl/ you obviously know what they are implying by cosplay.

The implication of cosplay is what draws attention from the plebs. No one gives a shit if you walk around with a superboy shirt and jeans. If you can walk into any mall and find a Hot Topic or Fye store and buy it off a shelf there no one considers it a cosplay.
>>
>>9384895
Sorry no one still cares about your Light Yagami cosplay
>>
>>9385319
>Rudy now enjoys increased grab duration time so he can perform more grapple combos

Doesn't matter it would still be a cosplay and under the rules you could get kicked out
>>
>>9386082
>Using TBBT reference again since it's a gateway into the "hashtag nerds", same with Marvel/DC movies
>Random moment in TBBT, one of the characters wears non-descriptive black t-shirt and jeans
>Decides that random moment inspires them to cosplay said character cause, I don't know, it made him look relatable and down to earth

I guess elite-con can now ban black non-descriptive T-shirt and jeans using the same logic. I can also interpret your slippery slope fallacies to the point where if anything was worn by anyone at any point by a character in any media it could be considered "cosplay", so lets ban clothing all together. (Forgot about porn so lets ban people too).
>>
>>9386165
They COULD, that's the problem because they never defined anything!
>>
>>9386367
You must be trolling kek
Like every other convention they also reserve the right to kick anyone out at any given time too, given they have sufficient reason as to avoid fucking over their reputation.
However, there is a simple solution, if you're that concerned that the cosplay you buy from Kohl's will get you kicked out, there are likely many other conventions you can go to that will welcome your over-the-counter big box store cosplay. You can even log in to eBay to buy your merch needs, there's meetup groups for you to satisfy your social needs. All this without the concern that someone /could/ hypothetically kick you out because you may resemble Sheldon Cooper too much with you fancy black T-shirt with the Batman logo on it.
