Couldn't find a hair thread in the catalog so I'm making a new one!

Use this for all your dying/styling/cutting questions and advice

Question: I have faded pastel pink hair and I'm looking to make it more brownish. I like how this dye looks from Missha but I have never used a bubble dye before, and I'm having a hard time finding reviews from people who aren't asian or who don't have dark hair.

So my question is
-Are bubble dyes bad on non-asian hair?
-Will this give me the color I want? (My hair is lighter than the lightest shade pictured)
>>
>>9361596
They aren't bad for non asian hair, but the results are not the same at all. You will likely get a strawberry color from the pic you posted if your hair is lighter than the lightest shade.

Just use henna if you want some brown.
>>
>>9361601
My goal is a pink-brown color, not straight brown, nothing that would be too dark or hard to get out if I want to change colors. I heard henna can be tricky to remove. Pic related is a color I want to achieve.
>>
>>9361605
Well in that case, that's probably what you'll get.
>>
>>9361605
I think the Missha dye will do the trick if your hair is light and warm-toned. I've found most bubble dyes (palty, prettia, the pudding one, etc.) fade fast but not as fast as directions and manic panic.
>>
>>9361609
>>9361657
Thanks, I think I will give it a try. I have an inch of dark regrowth right now, should I avoid putting the bubble dye on it, or will it matter?
>>
>>9361666
probably won't make a huge difference because bubble dye's lifting powers aren't much. but you might get a nice dark pink tint like the chart you posted.
>>
>>9361596
Honestly then I would suggest a demi/gloss instead of a permanent. I don't have experience with the brand you are talking about because I never recommend box dye. If you have super light hair then when you put that dye on your hair will drink it up but since the cuticle is blown open it will fade pretty quickly. If you get a demi the color will last longer and be better for your hair. The goldwell 9mv will give you a nice pink color but I would mix it with a 8na for a really nice rich color. If you can't do that at all then I would go for light brown box color and then do a pink wash over it (you can use Arctic Fox or any other pink, mix it with some conditioner to delut it if the color is too bright) There is a chance the pink will show through but the chances of that are pretty slim.

I have very cool skin and a warm hair tone. That really doesn't work out well.
My attempts to rectify this have been frustrating and damaging to my hair.
I am not willing to bleach my hair anymore after I have seen what that does to it.
Have any of you found a way to go more ashy permanently without using bleach?
I don't mind touching up colour but everything I tried so far had little results and lasted only for a few washs. Silver shampoo doesn't do much. I've tried for months. My hair probably isn't light enough for it to have effect.

Pic related: My natural hair colour that's 100% clashing with the rest of me.
>>
>>9361782
The reason I'm not using one of these is that I feel like if I do mess it up, it'll last long, and most bubble dyes do not. I've looked into demi and permanent dyes but since I'm not a professional colorist I'm intimidated to use them, every site I visit says DO NOT USE UNLESS PROFESSIONAL COLORIST. The bubble dye is made to use at home for idiots like me.

It could end up terribly, it's still a box dye. I'll look into that Goldwell color, it looks really gorgeous.

You could go darker with an ashy color. If you want the lightness you have now but ashy-er you need to lift to a way paler blonde.

>>
>>9361802
Have you tried purple shampoo? It isn't a dye so much as a method of neutralizing warmer tones.
>>
>>9361802
Your hair will not get damaged of you get it done with olaplex. I don't care what anyone says it's with every penny. When mixed with the lift it actually end up reversing damage and leaving it healthier then before. I've taken people from a 4 to a 10 in a single sitting with the integrity of the hair not even being touched. I feel like if you maybe got a shadow root with a more neutral toned color then toned the rest with a na (neutral ash) you would be a lot happier with it.
Either way if you don't want to actually lift the color get a permanent color with built in lift. You can get one that will lift up to 2 levels. Wella, Paul Mitchell, and goldwell all have colors with lift.
>>
>>9361983
This is true if you don't know what your doing it can go bad. If your really wanting that color I will suggest getting it done somewhere. OR you can try the new viral color washes. They have great color just don't last that long, which is why you use it every other shower. If you mixed the champagne and pastel pink it might give you the same effect.
>>
What dyes do you gulls use? I have thick, red hair and besides the first time I dyed a purple streak in, it has not held color since. My mom keeps telling me that red hair just won't hold dye but I'm pretty sure that's momscience
>>
>>9362891
Red hair actually does not hold dye as well as other colors. You're better off using hair chalk or getting it done profesh, it'll be difficult otherwise.
>>
>>9361596
It'll probably give you a color lighter than that. you could always do a strand test, but I would reccomend a darker shade with an ash base to neturalize the pink/red tone.

>>9361601
DO NOT USE HENNA.
It will ruin your hair if you ever want to use bleach on non-virgin hair, the metals in it will fuck it up
>>
>>9362789
Opalex does damage your hair, don't be fooled. It is just less harsh than bleach. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone just starting out either.
>>
>>9362973
Olaplex on it's own will make your hair healthier. I use it for conditioning treatments between bleaching/dying. Olaplex with bleach/dye will help protect your hair but no, it will not erase all damage.
>>
>>9362962
Pure henna will not fuck up your hair. Shitty import henna or 'natural hair dye' blends that contain a lot of other shit will. Bleaching over real henna dyed hair is fine.
>>
>>9362891
Do you use vegetable dyes or dyes that use a developer? Dyes that use a developer usually last longer. I haven't dyed my hair red in a long time, but the ion color brillance argan oils have very pretty reds. Two of my friends use them and I love the hair colors that they have.
>>
So here is my PSA for you all.

Do not dye your hair a yellow based green (blue based is different). I did a half/half hair color, half dark blue and half dark green.

Then, I changed it to a dark green-->mint blue ombre. I tried to get the green out, then put a purple on it and it became a forest green.

Last week, I decided to change my hair to half pink half purple. Pink on the green side and purple on the blue side. (Because if I put purple on the bleached green side it could turn green again.)

I did two bleaches, three dandruff shampoo washes, two vitamin C lifts, ketchup, non-permanent red hair dye, and two toners. I cannot get this green out. While most of the pink is a really pretty pink, there are parts that look orange (that was the GREEEEEEN).

So I am going in and getting the parts that were green shaved off.

Don't go green unless you want it for a long time and are willing to cut it off if it won't come out.
>>
>>9363053
To call green pigment you need to use red. Think color wheel. To cancel out the green do a red based toner.
>>
>>9361802
Use a grey rinse (basically what the old ladies use) which is like toner to take out brassy, warm tones from hair.
>>
>>9363053
you're hair sounds horrible based on what you did to it because of green. For the love of fuck do some hair masks that actually cost money.
>>
Anyone have any inspo for natural hair in lolita, preferably something with updos or braids?
>>
>>9363053
Or you could just... not dye it the completely opposite color in the same lightness and expect it to turn out fine. Henna dye your hair brown for a few months and wait it out like the rest of us, jesus.
>>
>>9363053
fuck man just get it professionally done at that point.

I have really thick, very wavy hair. I've been having it straightened (well, more like smoothed out) with a keratin treatment for the past few years so I can usually just blowdry it straight without using an iron. For a while now however it seems that the top layers of my hair look really healthy and smooth while the layers underneath look scraggly, dry and just pretty bad in general. Why is this happening and what can I do? I don't dye my hair and if anything I'm damaging the top layer more as I use straighteners on it occassionally.
>>
>>9364824
Forgot to add in case that helps, it's relatively long (past my breasts) but not really layered in any way, it's all the same length. Sage for double post.
>>
>>9364824
What system are they using? Some like chi can eventually have a chemical build up, or your hair can just be over processed.
When you blow dry/ flat iron do you use heat protection?
>>
>>9364856
The one I've had done most recently was either Keratherapy or True Keratin. I have it done every time I go back home for the holidays so about 3x a year. Had Chi done once and wasn't happy with the results at all. I always use a heat protector spray when I blow dry my hair, i've been using the Charles Worthington one, not too sure if getting something more 'upmarket' would help. Still, seems weird that the rest of my hair is absolutely fine.
>>
I used to dye my hair fun colors when I was young but now I work a not very strict office job and I want to color it again. What is a good way/style to color it a fun way while still being professional looking? I have very long hair.

I kind of hate the under dyes because I never put up my hair so it would just be a waste.

Dear /cgl/-- my hair is a mess, please help me.

I bleached it about a year and a half ago and fiddled with it after that (like an absolute idiot,) but I haven't done anything to my hair for a whole year except try to grow it out, baby it, and cut off as much of the ends as I can muster.

As you can see, it's a mess. So many different colors and tones going on there. It looks so dull and green-tinged in real life. I look at my hair and want to cry.

In April, I am going to a salon to try to fix it somehow. I really just want to grow out my natural hair color (a very dark, very ashy blonde-- you can see the roots in the picture.) I would love to color the rest of my hair to match my real hair color and be able to just not do anything to it for a while. I was thinking of asking a stylist to do this, and maybe add a small amount of pale, ash blonde baby lights to give it a bit of dimension. Do you think this is a good plan? Is it even possible to do without making my hair look even more dead and green? I just want to grow it out and have nice hair, and not look too bad while it happens.

Sorry I'm a bit of a jumbled mess. I would appreciate any input you have. Pic is my hair in natural lighting.
>>
>>9365070
You're being ridiculous. Your hair looks normal, if I saw you in real life I would not think twice about it.
>>
>>9365070
Anon your hair is normal. I don't see any green and natural blond hair has different tones.
