I apologize for the terrible picture. My full sized mirror broke and I have not replaced it.

Anyway, this coord is a WIP but all I really need are shoes and the top layer, which a friend is making for me. If anyone has recommendations on affordable shoes/boots that would go well with it, and mori in general, I'd appreciate suggestions.

Mori kei is pretty much dead. The only place to get good proper mori items now as far as I know is taobao/aliexpress.

A little off topic, I'm feeling so sentimental about mori kei (I haven't worn it in a really long time and I miss it so much!) And stupidly enough I miss the old community particularly? The new community is so... tumblr. If that makes sense. It's all thrifted and doesn't have the whimsical feel it used to. Everyone is ~dark mori~ or into wicca and it's just so... not fairytale-esque anymore. I'm not sure how to explain it lol. I won't get too much into it but I hate the amount of "I read books I'm so different!" Type mindset a lot of the girls have, and how much I've seen them complain about lolitas? And the amount of them that say they were bullied out of lolita for being Ita is almost hilarious..

It's pretty dead in Japan. Other than the US, it's still somewhat popular in some other countries such as Norway. There's a facebook group called "Internation mori fashion & lifestyle" and it's fairly active.

I've noticed that it's not very fairy-tale like anymore too, which makes me sad because that's why I started to love the fashion in the first place along with the cozy vintage feel to the more toned-down outfits that still had that whimsical feel to it. Like the way a normal girl would be drawn in a fairy tale, wearing clothes that are practical but still very pretty and cute.

Now most coords are kind of bland and too "normal".

The most common fabrics are cotton and linen, so you could probably find lighter weights of those to layer.

I've worn mori in CA summers no problem, though our heat is more dry than humid. Not entirely sure how well it holds up in humidity.

ah! thrifting isnt inherently bad, i do it myself!
what i meant was like, if you look at a lot of the outfit rundowns on bad coords on tumblr its almost always entirely thrifted which isnt BAD but it is because people on tumblr seem to think any item thats brown, has flowers, knitted, etc is mori. it ends up looking like a weird/ugly mix of boho, hippie, grandma, that elven style... and stuff? i dont even know how to explain it! i dont want to post an example tho (i would feel bad posting someone whos minding their own business on 4chan...)

tl;dr, nothing is wrong with thrifting, the majority of people on tumblr just have no taste.

Ok, I got you. I can imagine it now and yeah it IS hard to explain. I get that same "close enough but something is wrong" feeling looking back at pics of my outfits from before I had a developed, adult sense of color and material matching and blah blah. Maybe it just takes time for people to find good taste.

So, what do you all think about Dark Mori, since that is still kinda alive?

Personally, I like the look. The dark fantasy aesthetic works for me, scratches an itch deep down that is similar but significantly different than that of Mori Kei. That being said, I'm a practicing herbalist and permaculturist, and even I find the people who think they can really do magic to be utterly insufferable.

I personally like it, for similar reasons. But I don't entirely place it into the same category as mori. Mori is like the light fluffy heroine of the fairy tale where strega/dark mori is like the witch that eats her brother. I view it more in the stevie nicks revivalist vein with a bit more character

I like the dark mori style as well. I enjoy goth and other fashions like that, but dark mori girl stuff just seems...softer? It's dark and mysterious and feels kind of timeless like you're lost in some dark woods.

...Anyway. It feels easy to do if you have enough dark colors to layer. But I also like seeing bits of color incorporated too, like a dark green, burgundy, etc. Something to break up all the blacks and greys sometimes.

Same. I have a hobby of trawling thrift stores so having a lot of dark layers isn't a problem.

I'd try wearing it more, though I prefer a little more waist to my silhouette and it's easier to wear in the fall/winter. I've seen short/sleeveless variants though.

I've never understood why it got attached to mori, considering the idea behind mori was stuff with natural colors because of limited access to dyes due to living far from civilization. It's got more in common with natural kei or dolly kei if not straight up goth.

I come to /cgl/ once in a blue moon, and I must say I love how functional this style is, and yet so traditional and beautiful. I wouldn't think twice if I saw someone dressed like this in the grocery store.

Okay, I've just been looking at Mori Boy inspo. It's too bad menswear is so confining, or I would try this.

If, as a man, you dress too non-functionally (with exceptions), then you sort of declare that you have more leisure than other men, which sets you apart in a bad way. I think this is at the heart of the menswear problem.

With this in mind, post a little Mori Boy too.

mori isn't really suited for a farm, you need practical and durable clothes for that. you need to be able to move around and use your hands freely. loose layers will get caught in plants/tools etc.

That makes sense. I personally see it going two ways - either outfits that are various shades of beige-whites/off-whites, or very nature-related colors, i.e. browns, greens, hints of brighter colors (blues, yellows, pinks, etc.)

The easiest way to figure out color coords is to just look at other outfits.
