What are some design elements you either see cropping up in J-fashion now, or that are already around but not very popular, that you wish / hope become staples in the future?
Personally, as an older Lolita, I like these more open necklines Innocent World is experimenting with. I feel like it gives the details of your blouse a chance to shine and helps create a more "womany" feel while still keeping to the core style concept.
In the past, this was the most 'uncommon' neckline I would see; a square neck. I like it and I love the idea of many of them featuring a removable panel.

Last one; Would this count as an extra-wide heart-shape neckline? It's something I've seen on the occasional steampunk / ouji vest but not on a JSK.
I really like this neckline.
>>9342937
I love that too!

Oh I really like this! I like sweetheart necklines in general, I feel like they're fairly uncommon but really flattering
We need more dresses accentuating the bust and waist separation/shapes instead of making tubes. I am so sick of empire waist dresses or high waist dresses that become empire waist thanks to my chest.
my first brand piece had a sweetheart neckline and i still love it so much

I think the v neck is matronly. The other two are very flattering and lovely though.
I really like the yoke blouse IW has good for mature looks.

Drop waist dresses? It's not like they're new. Somehow they aren't as popular as the high waisted/empire dresses though. There's something about a brand having a fanbase that's mostly shorter, flat girls, the dresses that flatter a different body type tends to bomb because their regular customer base can't wear them.

I kinda think drop waist isn't as popular in Lolita as say, Fairy Kei, because I bet Lolitas either get confused or feel uncomfortable with trying to fit their petticoats under it. I've seen drop-waist coords posted with comments mentioning how weird it felt to have the waistband of the petticoat resting across their hips instead of at their natural waist.

I want this so badly. Even if they just put in a ton of shirring around the waist and didn't really shape the bust; I'd be happier.

I love this V-neckline Aatp did, it looks like it might be very flattering and the lace ist just lovely. It doesn't seem to be very popular, though (maybe it's the print? But it's so cute, I'm really missing these hand-drawn prints), so here's me hoping I can get it second-hand for cheap.

I feel you, I look so bad in high-waisted dresses . I'm not into drop-waists, but your picture looks really nice and flattering, wish they'd do these kind of cuts for their more mature prints, too, but it seems like whenever AP does more mature prints they make their cuts extra cute and high-waisted.

There is a middle-ground between high-waist and drop waist, it's called normal waist.
>>9343101
I hate to say this, but drop waists are only flattering on thinner girls, and even then a torso too short to suit it can make it look pretty bad. How many ill-fitting drop waist Dolly Cat coords did we see during that boom?
I love drop waist but unfortunately it doesn't tend to suit everyone.
>>9343035
is there a name for the lacey skirt-thing over the bottom half?
>>9343101
Drop waists are hell, especially when you already have an odd length torso. Mine is long and they look terrible on me, they look awful on people with short torsos, I've just straight up never seen them look good,
>>9345432
it's an overdress.
>>9345432
I think it counts as a 'tier', or a 'lace tier' more specifically.
>>9345526
I'm an hourglass shape, drop waist dresses are heaven.
>>9343144
Person I replied to made a comment on her bust turning empire waists into high waists. Well, my bust turns normal waists into empire waist dresses.

aatp's corset style jsks are also dropped waist dresses, if you look up stock photos for Masquerade Theatre, La Traviata, Poison apple, etc, you'll be able to see the waistline sits lower than normal waist. Yet very few people complain that these dresses look funky or weird.
Even if you want to stick strictly to AP's own dropped waists, they aren't all clusterfucks either. Try looking for girls wearing Musee du Chocolat or Chess Chocolate dropped waist jsks. They aren't good for girls with longer torsos, they're good for girls with bigger busts, which tends to eat up bodice fabric. The extra length allows the dress to emphasise the existence of a waist before poofing out into a skirt.
Honestly I can't think of a good explanation why AP's own Musee du Chocolat seemingly looks good in worn photos, but Dolly Cat does not. Just looking at the way both of them sit on the mannequin, they seem to be roughly the same silhoutte. I can only think that Dolly Cat had a wider appeal because it actually has the border print on the skirt, so a lot more of AP's regular clientele that normally wouldn't go anywhere near their dropped waist dresses picked it up, and it turns out the dropped waist silhoutte doesn't suit them at all.
If you need more AP examples where dropped waists don't look terrible, one of Mercator's jsks is also drop-waisted, I believe the long jsk for Victorian Letter is also much lower than natural waist.

Oh man I miss seeing square necklines.
It's for the same reason as yours, showing off those sweet, sweet blouse details!
>>9345432
try overskirt if you are looking for a fancy detachable layer that lies only waist down.
some dresses have them attached as part of the design. AP has made a lot of these
