Have you ever met a VA/Guest at a con that has been an utter asshole?
I think Vic is the poster boy for these types of threads.

Recently come back from a con that hosted Tara Strong (Voice of Harley Quinn) where she got upset because someone had a MAGA hat on. She refused to shake the guy's hand and got the volunteers to usher him away after quickly signing his shit.
>>
My brother goes to cons and sells indie video games with his friend who's a somewhat new VA. I was chatting with them at their table and Todd Haberkorn, one of the guests that year, shows up at the table. He was looking at the games and then saw my brothers VA friend and immediately started talking shit about the games and was giving himself ass-pats. I refuse to watch anything he's in now.
>>
Are you implying Vic is an asshole guest?
>>
>>9331994
What fucking rock do you live under? See >>9319742
>>
Greg Ayres once threw a giant tantrum when we were both GoHs at a small con and I told him that I wasn't into dubs. I had no idea who he was at the time and was just chatting with him in the break room like I'd talk to any other industry person but he hit mega levels of butthurt.

I have a bunch of liason friends and they told me later that it was a pretty damn common occurrence with him.
>>
>>9331792
I don't blame her. I wouldn't want to shake their hand either. They stood in line to get signed shit, they got their signed shit. She's not under obligation to shake their hand too.

Guests are still people, and if someone makes them uncomfortable they're allowed to not initiate physical contact.
>>
>>9331994
>>9331792
Vic was awful. I didn't work with him, but was working with another guest and we happened to share a room for the event. I watched Vic take the mic from the organizers controlling the events and turn it into a show about himself, complete with floor dives and lots of teen girls.
>>
I've never heard these 'Vic' stories.
Is there an archive for this or has anyone got any?

Can we just rename these threads to Vic Lasaga General?
>>
I saw Vic Mignogna at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face while doing his Edward voice. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any alchemical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
>>
>>9332116
I missed these stories so much. This was beautiful.
>>
>>9332009
She's being paid to do a job. Her job is to interact with attendees. It's not like the dude was yelling racial slurs or grabbing pussy, he was wearing a hat. She should be blacklisted honestly.
>>
>>9332116
>Vic being a smartass in Edwards voice.
>Not calling him a runt/tiny until he blows up and is dragged from the store.

Missed a golden opportunity anon
>>
>>9332166
>magafag this mad

>>
>>9332116
I am shook
>>
>>9332009
She shook everyone's hand and gave out hugs and took photos with other attendees.
As soon as she spotted him in the crowd, her face soured and she pointed at him to a volunteer and shook her head.
She actively held up the line to do this, he did attempt to speak to her whilst she ignored him. He offered his hand and she shook her head, then the volunteers ushered him off.
By the time I got my stuff signed, she was pissed. Had a really shitty attitude to the whole situation in my opinion.

>>9332166
I saw him later on around the dealer stalls. He had his hat off clutched in both hands. Felt a bit sorry for him.
>>
>>9332170
Damn you're right.
I'll revise it for the next McNuggies thread.
>>
>>9332166
you pay her money to have your stuff signed
you are not paying her money to be allowed to physically touch her
get over yourself
>>
>>9331994
Yes he is. There are cons that refuse to have him back just because of how difficult he is.
>>
>>9332036
I just want to know if anyone has ever offered up any actual proof/credentials behind the Vic stories. I'm not saying he's perfect or that there's just no way he could be a douche...but anecdotal evidence is just that: anecdotal. I'm going to a con he'll be at in two days and I'm interested in finally seeing the man, so we'll see how it goes.
I'm sure I'll get some butthurt replies to this. Sorry, I just tend to apply skepticism to stuff until I actually see it myself.
>>
>>9332166
>>9332195
The guy had it coming, look at what he was wearing!
>>
>>9332195
>feeling sorry for a Trumpfag

Fuck every single one of them, quite frankly.
>>
>>9332214
He's a fine guy from the guest side. Think of it as like a friendly TV personality that's cursing at the crew off air.
>>
>>9332222
Yeah, I'll admit, that does make sense.
>>
>>9331972
>Todd Haberkorn

Yeah he is a smarmy prick, done some shows with him & he just comes off like he is always too good for whatever show he is at.

Sonny Strait is a douchenoodle, saw him throw a drink at the moderator of his panel & tell him to 'get out' and this was before the panel started! The guy did nothing wrong, Strait was just pissed that the con had assigned him one "I don't need YOU!" he screeched.

Steve Blum is a grouch. He wasn't overtly dicky but he just had a "Yeah yeah whatever" attitude.

The worst though? Johnny Yong Bosch. Holy shit that guy is a raving asshole. He's also one of those guys who is so stupid that he thinks YOU are the stupid one.

I actually don't have a bad Vic story, BUT I have seen him drop his happy-go-lucky act & be 'himself'.
>>
I wonder how Vic McNuggets and other old fma voice actors feel about the VAs that left the anime scene into video games and got really big.
>>
>>9332195
Maybe he should have thought about that before wearing his trumpanzee hat to a con
>>
Not a horror story but a LOL story

Not being famous enough to warrant a guest spot due to not being in a licensed Star Trek show/movie McFlurry bought himself a ticket to the Las Vegas Trek con

No one fucking knew who he was and he looked so put out
>>
>>9332206
Can vouch, the con I staff at is one of them.
>>
>>9332431
Isn't he a Star Trek fan in general?
>>
>>9332195
I fuckin hate MAGAdrones and I don't blame her but at a public signing I can see why it's in poor taste.

OTOH, dude shouldn't have been wearing political propaganda at an anime con just like Vic shouldn't be holding church services at cons.
>>
>>9332890
>just like Vic shouldn't be holding church services at cons
W-was this really a thing?
>>
>>9331994
I'm friends with someone who used to do a lot of the public relations stuff for some midwest cons. She said of all of the VAs she dealt with Vic was one of the most difficult and had the worst case of "just who do you think I am" syndrome. She said he had tried to send people out to go get him wine and shit and inevitably would make an ass out of himself at least once.
This is just stories coming from one person though. But according to other stuff I've seen around here, it seems like it would fit the bill of Vic.
Why do people want him to keep coming back? I've seen him once and didn't get what the hype was about.
>>
>>9332222
I've met him several times as a con antendee and if you, as a guest, outshine him in any way he's an asshole
>>
>>9331792
>needing to explain who Tara Strong is
>using "voice of Harley Quinn"

>>
>>9332428
So what you're saying is that the guy was asking for it, huh?
>>
I got a couple Vic stories.

>Talking to LittleKuriboh, interviewing him for a school project
>crowd forms since LittleKuriboh was very popular at the time
>Vic comes by
>PUSHES ME ASIDE
>sees LittleKuriboh
>"Wow, LittleKuriboh!, *I* VIC MIGNOGNA, am a HUGE fan."
>turns towards crowd
>"thats right everyone *I*, MIGNOGNA, am a HUGE fan of this guy"
>crowd seems pretty excited
>I'm not
>LittleKuriboh gives me this *im sorry look*
>I was literally in the middle of something and this dude just came in and put such emphasis on his name when complimenting LittleKuriboh like it was the highest honor he could give to someone

This one is a friend's story
>Friends and Friends mom go to convention
>They go to Vic's Panel
>Vic starts bragging about how he knows more about star trek than anyone else
>starts asking random star quest questions to the audience
>if anyone can answer enough, they get a bag of candy
>If you get a wrong answer Vic will spray you with a spray bottle like you're some sort of animal being disciplined
>Friend's Mom participates (she's a HUGE Trek fan)
>gets everything right
>Vic is visibly annoyed
>hits her with harder questions
>she gets them all right
>last question
>she answers
>Vic lights up and goes "WRONG, it was (nerdfacts i dont care about)"
>she answers correcting him "originally it was ___ but then ___ and ____"
>She outdid Vic, and he is not happy, he's arguing this since HE has to be the #1 star trek fan, not some casual who wasn't even a PART of it like HE was
>Salty Vic throws the bag of candy at her
>"take it since you TECHNICALLY won"
>but since you cheated I'll have to punish you hehe
>sprays my friend's mom in the face anyway

Oh my god, I think I know what con this pic was taken at.
>>
>>9332890
At this point isn't the MAGA hat a meme? I mean the whole presidency and campaign trail was meme that took a force of its own. I don't like trump supporters like any one else but seeing just the hat wouldn't trigger me to hate the person. It's a rather common joke I have seen time and time again where I'm at.
>>
>>9332416
Yea Todd's really got an ego, and from what I'm getting, is that Todd has Vic's ego. Vic and Todd absolutely hate each other.

I haven't really ever heard much on Sonny Strait. That'd be a first. Same with Steve Blum. Maybe it was just the day/event? Could be something happened too.
Sometimes I feel like there's more to these stories than the typical "they're just assholes."
unless it's stuff like >>9333005
Vic was one of the first guests we had and, since it was my first ever con I had been to, I was pretty much blind to issues. It wasn't until we had one of our panels that wasn't his that shit got weird. He'd burst into the panel and drag people up for an autograph. He was an absolute nightmare at the time for the staff. He ended up playing a piano in the lobby when he wasn't supposed to. Ordered over $300 worth of food and wine from the steakhouse that was in our hotel. We were super small and I dont know how we acquired him on our first year but damn was he annoying.
>>
>>9333375
people who are super liberal get really, really fucking butthurt. rump ravished booty blasted anal apocalypse levels of butthurt. there is no place for rational discourse when you talk to a super liberal. like you have liberals, you have conservatives, you have independents, and then you have super liberals. super conservatives can be pretty bad too but you don't see them as much
>>
>>9332214
I mean, I've been in the exact same boat. I've been hearing "Vic is a dick" stories since before 2009, so when he went to Katsucon in 2010, I was super eager to see what he was about, so I went to his panel.

He talked about how much he liked Star Trek and how he was doing an internet spin off series and then plugged his CDs of him reading the bible in Edward Elric's voice (which hasn't ceased to be confusingly ironic to this day), which left about 5 minutes for questions.

It was a very boring panel, and not at all a dramu fest like I was expecting.

I don't doubt the staffer stories in which he's being a diva so much as the regular congoer stories, but despite the rumors, it doesn't stop him from being very narcissistic and boring.
>>
>>9333049
Doesn't he also play Kirk in that fan-made Star Trek series? Kind of fitting since William Shatner was a huge egomaniac in set back in the day.
>>
>>9332219
Thats quite judgemental.
No matter what his beleiifs are he went to the con for Harley quinn making him a fan and no one should ostracize their fans because of who they support Hillary,
Bernie or Trump.
>>
>>9333394
What the fuck does this have to do with the fact that >>9333375 said the hat is a meme? Did you just want to get all /pol/ here for no reason or what?
>>
>>9332215
So because someone is wearing something you dont like makes it right for people to judge him or her thats like just horrible
>>
>>9333375
As much as some things are memes to us, we shouldn't forget their implications in the outside world either. Like we use fag and my nigga, but only edgelords would use those terms with normal people. Plus what may be a common joke to you might be off-putting to another person and they're not obliged to laugh at it with you.
>>
>>9333443
just relating why a hat would trigger someone to that degree
i voted for sanders (twice, even, because i wrote him in for the presidency) but you don't see me bitching and moaning about my guy losing (if i was a super liberal you probably would though)
>>
>>9333250
Thanks pal. Looking back it's kinda funny now, hah.

>>9333373
Yeah, actually, what con is this? Those two stands in the BG look uncomfortably familiar.
>>
There's a VA I've seen at a couple of cons who apparently voiced some NPCs in WoW? One of his characters may have been a more important character but iirc, they're pretty much just random side characters. Anyway, every time I've seen him, he just seems so desperate for someone to buy an autograph and shit. He once called over to me and my SO asking if we were fans of WoW and then started trying to tell us who he voiced, and neither of us knew who exactly he was talking about. Does this ring any bells for anyone?
>>
>>9333501
I believe it's Saucesomecon.
>>
>>9333507
Anon...that's how your average voice actor acts. You know those random dub VAs no one has actually heard of that your local con brings in as guests? They're all like that.
>>

>>
I've booked about 70 guests for a con that I work for. There's 5 people that we would never ever consider bringing back even if they begged to return for free along with paying with their hotel room and flights. Vic is on that list.
>>
>>9333445
Pretty sure that person was joking. Its a play on the "Of course she was raped, look at what she was wearing!"
>>
>>9332166
Are you an idiot? Or have you never heard of a company or individual refusing service when they want to ban someone from being their customer. She isn't required by contract to do whatever any attendee asks her too (in this case, physically touching him).
>>

I think it's just what Trump represents in general. Some people find it funny and other people don't. I also find it really ~lol edgelord~ of people that wear the hat 'ironically'. Not really funny, just tired.

She gave him the autograph which is all she had to do, she's not obligated to actually like him as a person OR shake his hand.
>>
>>9333935
This pretty much
Boohoo you didn't get to feel somebody's hand. Pretty sure the only victim here is their ego
>>
>>9332166
no
>>
>>9334168
All she had to do was give him an autograph. But she had him also escorted away from her like he was unworthy of her presence. You can disagree with someone politically and still be nice about it. Something like " I appreciate your enthusiasm, although we disagree politically, thank you for being a fan". It shows she doesn't like his hat due to the political representation without coming off as Tumblr tier offended. I didn't vote for any of the candidates becuase I didn't like their politics and threw away my vote. But I also won't shove someone into the corner for voting for trump and actually having an opinion.
>>
>>9333802
A company has the right to refuse service as long as it's not for an arbitrary reason. You can ban someone from wearing a MAGA hat if you're running an upscale restaurant with a strict dress code where a MAGA hat wouldn't be aesthetically appropriate. You can't run a gas station and decide to refuse service to someone wearing a MAGA hat because lol fuck Trump. FYI, political affiliation is covered under anti-discrimination laws.

All things considered, yeah she's not obligated to shake the guy's hand. But she's a salty ass bitch for letting her politics dictate how she treats other people, specially her fans.
>>
>>9331792
LOL I once had a dub voice person for Ranma 1/2 tell me "Fuck you!" when I proclaimed Ranma 1/2 is best watched subtitled, because the dub voices can't say Japanese names like Akane right.

I don't have any bad stories, but due to staffing a con I've had hilarious/weird encounters.

Taking the staff elevator to continue drinking in the evening after shift was over. In walks all of the Japanese and American guests including Vic Monongahela. Very obviously all drunk. But they were hilarious. Whomever the Japanese guest was was joking about finding drugs to do and we should join them. Vic was actually decent and just talked and while usually I would have found it weird, he hugged us all and said he hoped to see us at the after con staff event. Decent dudes that time. Drunk as we were.

Same con, met Vic again. Remembered us as staff and actually had a decent conversation. Maybe I'm not young enough for him to creep on?

Idk... I know there is a whole debate of "Hollywood/famous people shouldn't get into politics" with good reasons on every side... but this really just seems weird when people like voice actors/bigger name cosplayers try to do this.

Nigga our president is a reality tv star and in the past we had another fucking actor turned politician as a president. -Cherami Leigh is good and pure
-J Michael Tatum is wild
-Ian Sinclair is also wild
-Sonny Strait is chill
-Micah Solusod is super nice and nerdy
-Todd Haberkorn is funny and goes out of his way to make congoers have a good time
-Chuck Huber is also really funny

Being singled out for your beliefs makes you a victim of prejudice by definition. If a guest did this to a gay or trans person, they'd get banned and you'd probably be on the other side of the argument.
>>
>>9351046
A con I went to last year, a man was wearing a shirt that said something on it, I cant remember what specifically, but it had the word "Sex" printed in large letters. I think it was "Hot Sex" or "Ask me about my hot sex" and the con security asked him to turn his shirt inside out because there were people walking around with children and the con was supposed to be a family friendly event. Con organisers are meant to uphold a standard of zero tolerance on offensive material being worn at the convention.

Being gay isnt the same as wearing a shirt that says "fuck gays" or "fuck my asshole I'm a faggot".
Being trans isn't the same as wearing a tshirt that says "I used to have a pussy now I've got a hot dick".

Wearing a shirt that literally suggests White America is better than multicultural America would not be tolerated in any of the conventions in my country. He would have been asked to remove it before he was given his entry card.

Also, I can't remember the specific guests name, but a guest related to #GamerGate, who had made homophobic remarks on his twitter feed which he then defended, was protested by a good majority of the people who were fans of the con. His invite wasn't rescinded - I assume on the fact he was already booked in and they'd already made/spent money on him and the main host was a fan/friend. Obviously I don't go to that con anymore.

Eric Vale is also cool as shit

>in line for autographs
>girl in front of me has a sketchbook full of her original drawings of all the hetalia characters + their va signatures
>she's pretty good, really young and shy though
>drawing America while we wait
>con staffer notices that's all she has to get signed
>he's an old, grumpy fuck, tells her she can't get fanart signed and that she'll have to buy something from the booth
>she's absolutely crushed, but gets the go-ahead to at least show it to Vale
>once up there, he showers her with compliments on her art and asks if she wants it signed
>she confusedly tells him she thought she couldn't get fanart signed
>he looks a bit offended and asks who told her that
>she motions to the old staffer
>"well fuck him, give it here"
>signs her book, and she lights up like a damn christmas tree

Con volunteers/staff are the worst. Bunch of fatass weeb teens and old farts who use cons to actually feel powerful for once in their lives. Good on Eric, though. What a bro.
>>
>>9356807
The problem is there's a difference between dedicated staff, and volunteer staff.

Staffers who go to meetings all year long and actually organize and run shit work their ass off to make your cons possible. Staff who only volunteer for the weekend of the convention for a shiny badge and a black T-shirt and a power trip are cancerous.

The vast majority of anime cons don't have reliable quality control on who they let staff. Part of this is because large conventions don't have the manpower to run without volunteer staff, so they have to accept bodies to fill rolls regardless of if they're properly dedicated to the cause.
>>
>>9351046
Political beliefs are a choice though unlike being being gay or trans. Also most gays/trans people aren't walking around with a "I'M GAY LOL" shirt.
>>
I was once waiting in line at AB in a Sayaka cosplay with my friend as Homura, the the VA for Mami straight up walked up to us, introduced herself and we got a picture. 100% true. I know people who give it their all for the weekend, people on power trips, and people who are there for a free badge lol. It sucks, but there's not much else we can do. Usually guest relations and live events have the "best" volunteers.

>>
>>9358594
assuming your con isn't short staffed you will have shifts. on shift you do whatever they need. off shift you do what you want. depending on your department you might be able to ask for certain times off to go see certain events. training will vary depending on department. it could be as simple as "stand here and tell people to go this way" or "watch this door" for the gruntiest of positions or you might actually do something worthwhile. main discount would be a free badge if you do x amount of required hours. depending on the department your dealing with people may be minimal or not and you may have to deal with belligerents or not.

Well my gf understood I wanted to meet a VA from that con, but didn't remember which one. She then attended another event that was guested by not Bryce, but Mike. She spent money on not just getting his autograph, but a signed framed picture of several of his rolls (which looks like commission, I don't know how these guys usually do these things, I assume he had them printed and ready for sale, maybe bought the frame herself). >Dear Donald Trump,
>My mom was a first generation daughter of Russian immigrants to Canada. She worked long hours starting at 11 yrs old. Her entire family had horrible thyroid issues and all siblings had serious health problems. As a little girl, I watched my mom cry many times as insensitive adults would laugh at her. As young as 4, I remember squeezing her hand and telling her how beautiful she was. She starved herself. She tried every diet. Her pain eventually lead to her death. She WAS beautiful, inside and out. She was my rock. My confidante, my biggest cheerleader, the best hugger, and my heart. She came to every performance regardless of what insensitive people would say. While working on "Rugrats" there was a scene where the babies were in a car dealership & pretended they were in a submarine. A fat lady walks by & the line was, "look at the whale". I asked producers if they could make the character a muscle guy instead so that young kids would not think fat shaming was okay. Without hesitation they made the switch. No one is safe from Donald Trump's prejudices. Anyone who speaks as insensitively as him lacks empathy. That, is terrifying. I love you mom, I miss you every day. To anyone else being bullied because of their weight, appearance, color, religion or anything...I love you too.

Up until a couple years ago, I would spew fag and make lol nazi jokes here all the time despite being a gay jew. But in real life if you subjected me to those memes I would have been furious. But we hung out the welcome banner ironically for so long that people started showing up thinking they were in welcome company.

It's not funny anymore. In retrospect it was never funny. Ironic shitposting is still shitposting, and IRL doubly so. There's too much wrong with the whole situation that even if you're wearing a maga hat ironically I'm still making the same judgement as if you were serious because it's impossible to filter out who's serious and who's just being an ironic shithead these days.

Tara, Blum, DiMaggio and more are all on the ain't Trump train and will not shut up about it. They spew all kinds of fake news and attack anyone over the slightest reason and specially get pisses when people argue with them. I stopped following all of them cause of it.

Religion is a choice, but it's unreasonable to expect someone to change their religion on a whim as it is to expect someone to change their politics therefore political beliefs are almost always protected.

People shouldn't be given death stares and refused the same niceties as other fans just because of political support.
