Naka-Kon 2017/Midwest Cons

I plan on going! No idea what I'm gonna cosplay yet, though. I better figure that out soon, but I don't know if I'll have the funds to really make/buy a new costume this year anyway.

I'm really excited, but this thread is really early and destined for death without content.

Oh boy. Who's drunk on shift? I hope it's not security. I've never run into a drunk staffer, but I also tend to keep to myself when I can, so I might miss that stuff. Pretty sure staff aren't supposed to drink during the con. That should really be reported, especially if you've come across it more than once.

Never been to a con, just moved out to KC though and I'm definitely interested.

Nice. I only ever went in 2012 and had a fucking blast, we stayed in the Holiday Inn accross the way and it was so cold to walk.

A bunch really, but it's all impractical for first-time cosplays. I'm mainly into more robot and mecha-based stuff, big fan of things like Cyborg 009, Eva, Gurren Lagann, Zoids, stuff like that. Love DBZ, Naruto, MP100, Boku no Hero Academia, and One Punch man as well in terms of anime.

Gaming I'm kinda sporadic. Lot of Nintendo properties I love, then stuff like Overwatch, Dark Souls, Metal Gear, Halo, etc. Doesn't really help I'm sure, but that's more or less my interests.

Admittedly I'd thought of doing a Bionicle cosplay since I've been building the masks from papercraft (and have one that's been reinforced and painted with more craft materials), so I could potentially learn to make basic armor and the weapons in the time remaining, too.

Planet is better in terms of local comic cons imo. KCCC is fun and has decent guests, but in my experience it has been WAY smaller. Both seem to mostly just be giant vendors rooms and not much else though.

Naka doesn't really have a party scene. Staff is usually pretty quick to shut down room parties or noise complaints.

I'm a local that chooses to stay at the hotels every year. Personally I just find it more convenient. Yeah it winds up costing more, but I save the hassle of finding parking spots every day, plus if I choose to drink (parties do happen. I've never been at one that got shut down) I can just crash and not sweat it. I honestly wish I had coughed up the money for a room when they were still at the Hyatt. Would've made my life so much easier.

Last year I competed in a rap-battle in the lobby of the main hotel at 3 in the morning.

The majority of people at cons don't cosplay. ACEN is fucking huge so it'll be different from something like Naka.

I've had second thoughts about going this year and I'm deciding against it I think. Don't know hardly anyone out in KC (much less anyone that would bother tagging along with me). Never been to a con either and I feel like I'd mainly be interested in cosplaying.

I'll probably spend the next year making something and show up next year in costume, can't imagine I'll miss out on much in the end.
