New thread.

How do you think this Ohayo was in comparison to last years?
>>
I'm salty there wasn't a map in the guidebook nor a program guide. Why the hell are you handing it out if it's absolutely worthless?
>>
I wanna hear fun stories from the weekend. Horror stories, cute things you saw, etc etc

>>
This year is the first year I didn't put my badge to much use. I went to the game room for all of 30 minutes and browsed the dealer room for about 15 but that was about it. Ohayo is becoming a con that is only worth it if you have a lot of friends there. At least for me.

I was Belle this weekend, and this meant a few opportunities to talk to some parents and their kids. One particular one in the dealers room wanted to be picked up for her picture and reached up at me, I felt like I had been chosen. Warmed my heart right up.
>>
This was my 4th year attending. I think it was better than last year in terms of space, but construction still hurt it. Matsuri got lucky with construction. I don't like the even though the ballroom was available in the convention center, they still held the rave in the regeancy ball room above staircon. I feel like I bought the badge just for the rave, and that kind of sucked this year.

Talk about panels!
Especially since while I only paid for Sunday, from looking at their titles it seems like Ohayocon is improving in its programming quality. Also no retarded entry/exit only doors for the dealer's room. In fact I don't think anyone was even checking for wristbands Sunday lol.

I only went to my friend's panel (Make Learning Japanese Fun or something like that). It was her second time panelling and I think it was great, I'm super happy for her. I know I saw samurai anon there.
>>
Too much tumblr, SU, comics, and metal health panels.
Not enough anime.

Not attending next year at all if the trend continues.
>>
>>9321946
Might as well stop attending midwest cons.

You forgot 'too much video games' on your list of complaints, too.
>>
>>9321946
Why are anime fans like this? I feel like people at comic con don't really care if you're cosplaying from anime, cartoons, video games, etc. Your dumb weeaboo tears only make me want to cosplay from anime less.
>>
>>9321925
I usually try to get a photo of every Kiki at cons, i've been her twice. Love that movie.

>>9321928
Thank you so much! :)
>>
>>9321854
Cuuute. CUTE
>>
>>9321973
It's because the time normally spent on anime stuff is now spent on other stuff. Realistically it's probably because they're nostalgic of old tight-knit groups of friends going to cons together and now that that group is no longer interested in cons they blame it on the fact that the cons have changed instead of their interests.
N-not that I'm projecting or anything.
>>
>>9321973
>Why are anime fans like this?

Dude idk but I hope cons become an even more normie activity just so I can see these hyper weebs sperg out some more
>>
Btw you were a really good Belle, I wanted to get a pic, but I was so out of rhythm this year that I didn't take many hall shots out of my scheduled shoots.
>>
This was my first Ohayocon, averagely decent in my opinion, nothing terrible but nothing jaw dropping.

Only disappointment was the J-fashion photoshoot, what a joke, I assumed it was on the schedule because people wanted it and asked for it. I had to work Saturday and couldn't attend the tea party so I was hoping to meet other J-fash wearers on Friday - like three lolitas showed up and left when it was obvious no one was there. Chatted with a nice girl in a super basic coord at least. Should I have expected this?
>>
>>9322017
Ohayocon doesn't cater to attendees interested in J-fashion. Some went to Samuraicon. Others flat out not attended.
>>
>>9321973
Except I have no problem with the occasional off topic stuff, but when it becomes the MAJORITY of the convention, then why is it still even considered an anime con? I am paying for an anime convention because that is my interest. I also attend comic and game cons, and if I go there, I don't expect loads of anime to be overtaking the comic scene. Its not a complicated concept.

>>9321956
>Might as well stop attending midwest cons.
So I'm noticing.
Is Acen like this? I was thinking of going to that this year.

>>9321996
Except the groups I've been going with for years still attend conventions, and we all see this. Its been a total shift in con-focus. We go to anime cons for anime. Why is that a bad thing?

>>9321997
I have no problem with ''normies'' attending cons. In fact thats what a very large portion of cons are anymore. Excuses for people with some interest in the hobby to come indulge in it a bit for the weekend and get shit faced at the same time.
>>
>>9322017
Oh I was late to that. Does anyone have pics? How many people showed up? I was in nanchatte standing around trying to take a new selfie profile pic but I'm guessing no gulls were still there.
>>
So what was the actual effect of Samuraicon on Ohayo anyway? I heard their numbers were incredibly low compared to their expectations of "at least 1000."
Did their plan to steal attendance work? Or did it just kinda kick Ohayo in the ass because I feel like things ran more smoothly this year compared to last.
>>
>>9322057
I waited until like 9:20 - I was wearing himekaji, the blonde in the liz lisa stuff with brown boots if you saw me. Sunday I wore a black classic lolita coord. Didn't take any pics as there really wasn't anyone there. One girl sat with two cosplay friends, then three lolitas (or two and a cosplayer?) sat down, waited for like eight minutes, then left. That was it. Some foreign cosplayers used the empty space to take pics. I saw lots more lolitas Friday, no idea why they didn't show up.

Lone girl was the one I chatted with, was very friendly, really encouraged me to join the Ohio comm, but her coord was very basic and not "omg I need a pic" worthy.

gonna be honest someone mentioned the shoot on a fb post where people were posting their cosplay kimonos so I didn't expect much lol
>>
>>9322092
Maybe that was after we all left, didn't see any Haikyuu cosplays. The one lolita I talked to was wearing the blue coloraway of AatP's Faint Love in the Watercolor Sky and the Melody of the Rain (so long). No kimonos were there at all, even that would have at least been something, sigh.

Who is this guy and why is he an attention whore Joker on the fb page every single year.
>>
>>9322027
A whopping four of us were at Samuraicon. I saw more during my brief run around Ohayo's Artist Alley and Dealers Room. Some of the local comm members were doing cosplay during the weekend and reserve wearing lolita for meets/get togethers and use con time for cosplay, so there's that.

Usually Ohayocon is filled to the brim with con-itas in full DOL Milky Planet replica regalia and ebay lace parasols. I never see them anywhere else, a few at other conventions but never get involved outside of that. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Lolita Crush was a joke from what I heard since I don't think there was any true lolita participation this year. It's always 80% dudes and fandom lolita cosplays there for free food.
>>
>>9322120
Cuz his Joker act is amazing. You have to meet him.

Unsure myself, but I'm not that into Batman. It was weird he got to post when no one else did though.

kind of?

The only reason I could feel any bass was because the floor was shaking so bad im surprised the building didnt fall down
>>
>>9322212
i was below the rave during the lip sync battle we could actually see the floor bowing to the jumping, very scary
>>
I actually quite enjoyed myself this con. It wasn't overly crowded. The renovations *while all that wood paneling was super old looking) the space was quite nice. The "dance" was fun. I only had one bad experience which was no fault of the con but got to see a bunch a friends. There was some really good cosplays this time as well.

My friend and I got bowed at a bit with a lot of "m'ladies" due to our cosplays so that was odd.

So people are complaining about allergic reactions to the wristbands and I have my doubts that they'll finally ditch them next year.
>>
>>9322238
Nah, they're not going to ditch them. Usually that's chafing or a simple irritation, doesn't necessarily mean an allergic reaction.
>>
Was anyone at Yuu Asakawa's autograph signing? I was telling a friend that she was at the con, checked her Twitter to see what she said about Ohio, and apparently a guy was hiding under her table and touched her leg then ran away.
>>
I ran a panel for what I thought was going to be my last year because of how panelists are usually handled here. But this year was bomb. Email responses were lightning quick and the girls were really helpful. We were invited to a FB group just for panelists, we got information before attendees did, we got rubber wristbands that were the cutest shit, they threw us a party, and they offered online check in before each panel which no con I've been to offers. And the break before and after each panel was beyond perfect. Capped room before it even started yo. 10/10 will do again if this keeps up.
>>
>>9322017
Ohayocon doesn't cater to us.
I didn't show up because most of the con went to Samurai.
>>
kek
No one went to Samurai. Local friends dropped by just to check it out. Dead. Saw one person every 15 minutes or so on Friday evening.
>>
>>9322212

Last year they had a much better sound system, and DJ's playing better music. I didn't feel it much during my short time there this year, but definitely thought we would break through the floor last year. Probably why they let less people in this year.

Ohayocon staff, especially upper management, has been taking notice and cleaning house of problematic staffers and vendors and it shows. Honestly this was the best Ohayocon I've ever been to.

Both Alan and Melissa seem to really want to take Ohayocon out of the laughing stock category of Ohio cons, and are willing to do the work to get there. They're willing to let go of long standing staffers and vendors who have been causing problems and not give them a pass because "oh it's just how they are", and they genuinely are willing to admit they don't know everything and bring in people who do. The new staff additions helped out enormously (programming was actually decent this year!)

My only complaint is a lot of the volunteers had God complexes and were dicks, but the actual staff this year were the nicest bunch of people I've ever dealt with.
>>
>>9322238
>>9322241
They're never going to ditch the wristbands. They need to prevent people from ghosting at the Con. We can't trust people who attend our Con.

This why I stopped going.
>>
>>9322535
Literally this is my one complaint about the con, but honestly I want to give the Hyatt more shit about enforcing wrist bands and putting cops at the elevators. That was far more infuriating because I wasn't allowed to technically be on my room at the Hyatt for reasons and it made shit super fucking awkward.

I got a total of 5 hours of sleep the entire weekend.
>>
>>9322535
>They need to prevent people from ghosting at the Con.

Even wrist bands don't do that.
Some scissors and a safety pin and you're back to square one.
>>
>>9322540
>but honestly I want to give the Hyatt more shit about enforcing wrist bands and putting cops at the elevators

Blame people trashing rooms for fun.

>That was far more infuriating because I wasn't allowed to technically be on my room at the Hyatt for reasons

You mean you commuted hours to a con and thought you would be able to stay in an overstacked room with people who did not actually read any information on the limitations set on people staying at the Hyatt?

And on top of that you decided not to sleep during the daylight hours?

You're an idiot.
>>

Sure buddy assume the situation without knowing. I won't go into details but I wasn't allowed to be listed on the room due to how it was acquired. I couldn't sleep during the day because I was working the con.

I had a wristband and I lost it and I couldn't get it replaced because I wasn't listed on the room. I still got up there but it was an unnecessary annoyance regardless.
>>
>>9322535
Kek. I ghosted the fuck out of Ohayo this year. Unless you plan on buying stuff from the dealer room you don't need it.

Panels and rave always disappoints, why would I buy a badge for ohayo?

Really though, are they just illegally slave-stacking hotel rooms?

Me and some friends talked to a staff member and she was singing the con's praises and saying working the con is a great idea if you like attending but don't really have a lot of money for room and badges.
>>
I was really bored this year. I mean really. All the panels I made it into were really boring. We went to some kind of obscure video game panel and couldn't see or hear anything real well but they were going over a lot of sad and depressing games and we left. We went to Japan... WTF were they thinking? And fuck those dudes. They were just showing funny pics from the internet on their laptop in windows photo viewer. Lazy fuckers didn't even have a ppt. We were capped out of Asian horror. The only panel we made it j to and enjoyed was Anime Hell as always, but it didn't start until 1am and close to the end my whole group was dozing off.

Cosplay this year was underwhelming. Pokemon Photoshoot this year was so so bad- worst photoshoot I have ever attended. It was just... boring. Maybe I've aged out of cons. But on the plus side I actually got some good deals on some idolmaster figures.
>>
>>9322647
Do you drink alcohol
>>
>>9322647

the people who go to anime cons are the same people who half-ass everything in life, so its to be expected that panels made by anime fans are bullshit.
>>
>>9322647
>Cosplay this year was underwhelming.

My friend counted around 40 different people cosplaying Harley Quinn. The vast majority of them being Suicide Squad.
>>
>>9322672

yeah i saw a ton of harleys, deadpools, onesy D.vas and of course the usual 'ima army man' crowd, some trying to pass it of as the Division cosplay.
>>
>>9322662
We drank a decent amount but the guards checking people coming/going through the GCCC were too intimidating to bring alcohol through. I was stopped by a loud black woman who insisted she see my cup and ended up having to dump my drink to access the con. In the hour line up for Japan... WTF I sobered up way too much. We don't room party though, I've always been told 'Ohayocon isn't a party con' by /cgl/ but I'm having a hard time figuring out why anyone shows up, then.

>>9322670
This is true. Still irritated that my panels got rejected for some of this shit tho. The pokemon panels in particular at Ohayocon are all run by 'FundipYoshi', an abortion of a youtuber and no people skills at all... he's become a running joke in our group.

>>9322672
There were way more team skull grunts though.
>>
out of curiosity did anyone see that fatass in the vault suit pretend to be fall-down drunk for attention? talk about depressing.
>>
>>9322674
Didn't see as many deadpools as I thought I would. and I think I only saw two Dvas.
I was a bit surprised to see the Naruto crowd just gone. Think I only saw two bleach characters too, but I might have just passed over them.

>>9322676
I did see a ton of skull grunts. At one point I'm pretty sure I saw 20 of them just hanging around each other playing the theme through a boom box.

Also I've always heard the opposite. After the first two years attending I realized Ohayocon isn't really much if you don't have your friends along.
>>
>>9322676
>guards checking for alcohol

Wow, what? I've never heard of that.

Ohayocon definitely has room parties, you just needed to know where to look. It's usually easy to tell when a large group of friends are together and drinking around the con. They usually go back to their rooms to drink more/party. I'd know because I hosted a pretty sweet party this year.

But yeah its not as easy as it is at colossal.
>>
Did anyone else here go to Samurai? I only went there vs Ohayo because I was still nervous about my panels and wanted to test them out again before going to a bigger con, but I still had fun. Ended up going on Saturday and Sunday but I got some neat stuff at the artist alley/dealers room and made friends at the 18+ panels. The fact that it was small made it easy to get high af outside which in turn made the game room a blast.
>>
>>9322698
>The fact that it was small made it easy to get high af outside which in turn made the game room a blast.

I don't know how much you were able to smoke but when I was in the little Hyatt/Convention Center smokers alley there were at least three groups with bowls in rotation and a few other people smoking personal joints.

>>9322676
>We drank a decent amount but the guards checking people coming/going through the GCCC were too intimidating to bring alcohol through.

Fucking Christ you poor summer child. First off, flasks exist for a reason.

Second go to the north parking lot elevator and go down one if you want to drink. Me and my friends were literally knocking back bottles of wine in front of staff who were also talking about how much THEY drink on the job. It's not that hard.

I thought the skull guys were funny. Something I find utterly unbelievable is the huge amount of people who still cosplay Black Butler. I understand Naruto back in the day honestly because it had a huge cast and huge story relative to kuroshit. How many Ciels in the ugly pink dress can a person still see in 2017?

No good Overwatch charas save maybe the Symmetra, a Roadhog or two, and the Junkrat but I didn't see him irl. D.Va zentais and Widows were p shitty. Was disappoint.
>>
>>9322688

We were using Starbucks cups. I just think I'm too damn old to sneak liquor in flasks and hide in parking lots and worry about staff catching me taking too many people back to my room. I'm an adult not a freshman in college. And I never remembered having shit checked by the gccc before. It was a real pisser. I just wanted to watch some funny shit, have a few drinks and maybe learn some new anime, get some figures. I am agreeing with whoever said they hardly used their badge. I didn't really use mine except for the dealers room.

I had a lot more fun at Acen last year.

Poured up drinks in the room. Starbucks cups with lids provided in the Hyatt. So we poured cups and used the to go lids. None of the desperation of an alcoholic who buys a flask anyway.
>>9322753
There was a person stationed at the back door to the GCCC (back end of the bar) all evening Saturday making sure no cups got through. The woman was very loud. We could have went back upstairs and finished our drinks or possibly tried to detour around quite a ways, but none of us found it so important to get fucked up that we needed an alternative escape route, to smuggle liquor, or to miss out on content to drink. Unfortunately the content sucked I guess I'm not sure why I'm paying money to go to an event that is only good if I get fucked up or go to extra lengths to smuggle in alcohol. As I said, I may just be aging out of cons. I miss being 13 and weeby and enjoying every moment without needing to find a way to use substances to enjoy myself. I can save money, stay home and do that.

That's much less of a problem than it looks. The floor is supposed to flex like that. That upper room is meant to host big events and hold gigantic fixtures. It was way more noticeable the year before, where you could feel the floor bouncing while in the rave itself.

Even from an engineering/building perspective, flexing isn't an issue. That's actually a design feature. You don't need to worry until something stops flexing.
>>
Alright. Belle again here. I drank openly all weekend, was never once ID'd, had my jack and cokes in their little plastic cups, sipped all through the convention center all evening friday, all day saturday.
I never got bothered, asked to put my drink down, asked for an ID, or cajoled in any way. I got a shot of vodka at the hyatt from a Tony Stark cosplayer. I don't know where you all were that you had to be sneaky about your drinking, but i was basically a walking, talking, yellow beacon and was never targeted for anything.

She must've had too much REDD's Apple Ale.

Nah it was just due to the fact I was technically listed as a vendor despite being staff (because their system is fucking moronic). Alan has a very strict no rooms to vendors policy thanks to Greg Ayres dragging in a bunch of pedophiles into a room one year as part of his entourage.

Thankfully this is just a problem for this year and it won't be next year, just a minor annoyance. Otherwise this was the best Ohayocon I've been to yet.

It wasn't con staff, it was GCCC staff. They were at the glass doors behind the bar checking drinks. Several people I got off the elevator with were stopped at the door and told they couldn't enter the convention center. I'm not sure if there was a cut off (think they were gone by 3am when we went back to the room) or what, but they were there. Con staff has no problems, but the person who stopped us was security from the GCCC, so dressed like a cop. Pretty intimidating.

Behold the mega-autist that hosts nearly everything pokemon at Ohayocon.

Okay, new person, but my group drank freely all Friday night, though on our way back from thr Drury we had a guard ask us to leave any alcohol behind. We obviously said fine and just kept walking. He was a stuttering mess and wasn't going to do anything.

But, I believe the same person we dealt with on Saturday is who the other person was talking about. There was an extremely aggressive lady who demanded to look into and smell any cups or bottles. She was bloody yelling at anyone who walked through the doorway opposite the Hyatt bar. The other entrances were being supervised by police.

Most people were super chill and nowhere near obviously drunk. They just decided to be super hardcore this year. You're not special because you got away with it. Just simply missed the actual authoritative workers who did their jobs. The Hyatt was the only place you were supposed to be drinking anyways, so not sure why Tony is important.

Anyways, police/security presence was definitely heavier. Not really a problem except for a few members. Con staff doesn't give a shit about drinking, just the GCC people who some got a stick up their ass.

Shit that never happened for 500, Alex.

Is ok to name and shame rapists in this thread?

I got raped in my hotel room and I told con security. All they did was take my name and his and told me that he's put on a watch list. They may do a background check on him and if it comes back bad they'll ban him.

If this isn't a troll post, have you heard of the police?

What happened?

Excuse me? I've already contacted the police and I'm pressing charges. I feel everybody should know about this guy.

A "friend" I met recently asked if he could crash in my room Saturday night because he got locked out of his. I woke up to him raping me.

>I woke up to him raping me.

You're being surprisingly calm about this and that's appreciated. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.

If you wanted to start drama I feel you would have already started posting names in this thread, and you haven't, so that adds some believability to your story, but it's always tough in those situations. The audience, us, doesn't know if you guys were "close friends", drinking together, flirting together, had done it before, or if you just woke up and his dick was inside you and you told him to stop. That's why women get judged so harshly in these situations.

Are there witnesses? I have heard of countless situations of both real rape and false accusations to get revenge on someone. What, in your opinion, would you want the con to do?

To be fair the convention security has zero ability to do anything about things that happen outside of the convention space ... and technically no authority really to do anything in the convention space ... Con security is glorified customer service.

Though they should have asked if you wanted them to call the police and help as an intermediary

I still had a drink in my hand when I was moving from the bar to the convention center itself. I was immediately stopped by security and told I couldn't take my drink into the convention center. That was about it. Hell, the security officer wasn't even rude, she just seemed super-amused at all the goofballery going on over the weekend.

Me and my friends were drunk/high the whole weekend. I carried whiskey around in my bag, had no issues. My friend had a Powerade bottle with vodka in it, still no issues. Was kinda shocked to hear anyone had problems with it.

>Was kinda shocked to hear anyone had problems with it.

It's just one dingus who can't read the signs.

That said, I understand the point he was trying to make. Drinking should be an added bonus to an already enjoyable convention, not a necessary element.

But on the other hand, it's your responsibility to make the convention fun and interesting for yourself. Unless you look and smell like a swamp monster there's always new opportunities for friendships and experiences.

Did... anyone else go to the dangan ronpa shoot... oh my god. I know it shouldn't even be surprising considering the fandom but one girl legit flipped her skirt up and showed off her panties (had some sort of writing on them? I looked away) and everyone cheered and took photos, nearly everyone there seemed under 16-17, and there were families walking by.
Awkward as FUCK.
>>
Did anyone see the little darth vader walking around? He was like five feet, it was pretty funny.

Also, did anyone buy the starbox from the dealers room? I walked by but didn't get a change to figure out just what the hell it was. Seemed to be a blind box but no idea what was inside.

Anyone going to check out Yoi-Con? I expect it to be shit tier, but it's a good excuse to drink with one day badges being twenty bucks. And the chance to party with Greg again.

I'm probably going since I went last time, even if it was tiny I think everyone just kinda embraced it. My panels were lit but I didn't really go to any others so I have no idea the overall quality. The game room was a little cramped.

How many people went last yeaR?

im an artist that booked both ohayo and samurai and split from my partner saturday morning to see how sales at samurai was. I grossed 110 out of my 40 dollar table investment for the one day I was there. very small con, which i usually enjoy, but if the goal of samuraicon was to pull attendees from ohayo its effects were minimal

I was in the con ops room when I heard them say it was 450 but I think the facebook page said more than that lol
