Post some of the worst Worbla cosplay jobs you've ever seen. What makes a successful warble armor and what dooms most people. Are you like me, in that a horrible Worbla armor hurts you more than a horrible craft foam armor because you know how much money these poor fools wasted on their Worbla alone?

I get that they used warble to achieve this specific shape for the dress, but I just feel like its such a waste of material an it doesn't look that great either.

Wait, did they put fabric over this? Because that's literally what interfacing is for...

how is the belt so much neater than the top?

I'm working with worbla for the first time. Can you guys tell me what differentiates a good worbla costume as opposed to a bad one? Obviously I can see the problems with some of the pictures posted but I want to know what are some of the common signs that show the difference between a good or decent job versus a bad/amateur one.
>>
>>9310625
for one, worbla should be very smooth as a final produce. it should be sanded and filled a lot to get that effect, but also shouldn't have wiggles in it like >>9310540.

>>9310566
A less complicated curve, probably.
>>
>>9310625
One tip is that besides very small pieces, like fingers for gauntlets, worbla needs to be stabilized by something, whether it's double layered with itself or folded over craft foam. This is a big part of avoiding wiggles like >>9310626 said. What exactly are you making?
>>
>>9310546
how does one think this looks ok????
>>
>>9310625
sanding, filling, and finishing are your best friends! take your time and don't try to tackle a hugh project all at once, otherwise you'll get overwhelmed and give up on making it look nice. Worbla can be a bitch to work with if you let it
>>

I'm making pic related. I've been slowly working on it trying to avoid disasters like some of the ones posted in this thread. I'm covering the pieces in auto vinyl to give it a metallic look but I'm worried it's going to end up looking too plain when it's finished because of it. I won't really know until I have a good portion of it finished.
>>
>>9310659
>pic related
>covering the pieces in auto vinyl
Why use worbla at all then? You could just use eva foam if you're covering it completely. Would be lighter, cheaper and flexible. Pic related, Saint Seiya cosplayers have been doing this for ages
>>
>>9310559
I couldn't find the finished product (probably because it looked like crap) but I'm guessing yes? Either way it's such a waste of Worbla
>>
>>9310645
The finished painted version isn't horrible but wow, you can see all the mistakes in the photo to the left, how did they not even get the cheat pieces the same size??
>>
>>9310648
Wth is this even?
>>
>>9310650
This makes me so uncomfortable. I can image that this is comfortable to wear. Worbla isn't very flexible, she would've been better off using some other material like craft foam.
>>
>>9310656

There's a lot of that armor that can be made of EVA foam and covered. Specifically the shoulder pieces and hip wings-- something extending like that with a lot of visible thickness, there are better materials to use than worbla.
>>
>>9310659

That can entirely be made of foam. No need to waste money on worbla.
>>
>>9310540
also bad bc worbla won't be strong enough to not rip with the lacing, plus after wearing for half a day the shape will have been warped.

Looks like it's a battle damage version. And even for a prop that's supossed to be all messed up, the paint job is shit, and it still needs filler and sanding.

This thread is so upsetting. Why do people think that because their armor is made of Worbla, that will instantly made it look better? Especially for such flat pieces like >>9310645
>>9310653
You can just use foam, why waste your money? It would probably look better in foam, anyways. More expensive =/= better

Especially if you've never made armor before. Why waste money on something you're going to ruin when foam is easier to work with and it's cheap. It doesn't matter what you use if it looks like garbage
>>

This is the content I am here for
>>
>>9311949
This is posted every time a shitty worbla thread comes up and every time I am amazed at how truly awful it is. Just terrible.
>>
>>9311949
I don't understand how this happens. It's not like Wonderflex where there's a mesh preventing you from smooshing down the edges to make it blend. Was the worbla too hot for their delicate hands? Did the use a hair dryer instead of a proper heat gun? How do you delude yourself into thinking this Kraft cheese slice disaster looks presentable?
>>
>>9312317
I always forget what a god damn abomination it is to the concept of crafting until I see the photo again and just stare slack jawed at the grilled cheese mess.

what kills me about this and the "claws" she made (not pictured) is it makes no sense to use Worbla for these items. the weight alone on your head would be painful, I imagine.
>>
>>9316662
The boob cup design is unfortunate, but the technique and crafting here actually looks really good. What's the problem?
>>
>>9316701
Thinking the same. There's so much here that could have wrong but didn't. I appreciate this use of Worbla (all but the weird cup design as you put it)
>>
>>9316701
>>9316740
Are you both overlooking how wonky nearly every "straight" line looks? Never even mind what the fuck is going on in those joins between cups and the rest of the plate.

It's not as bad as the cheese patchwork plate upthread, no, but it's clear this person is either not 100% there techniquewise, or is just halfassing it.

>>

If she had been alor thinner this cosplay would have worked out for her just a bit better, this is why girls really need to think about cosplays before walking around like a fat mess
>>
>>9319600

no, it would have been a mess on a thinner girl, too.
>>
>>9310659
>>9310729
This. There's no point in wasting your money on worbla if you're going to cover it with vinyl anyway, EVA foam + vinyl has been working forever with projects like this.

People seem to be way too quick to pour money on worbla without considering if it's the suitable material. It's not some kind of a miracle sheet that will enable you to do anything you want. It's not very durable, it requires backing to make armors and it needs to have a finish to look good.
>>
>>9316690
Not the worst use I've seen. At least it has that metal texture like in the show
>>
>>9319590

Wish I'd saved that pic of the girl who didn't want to back her worbla with craft foam because "I don't want it to be too thick"
>>
>>9316574

Smooth-On makes a self-leveling two part epoxy resin that was originally meant for smoothing out 3D prints. You can brush it on worbla and it levels to relatively smooth. Then you just sand and you're golden.

This. While auto paint can look pretty solid on cosplay it works mest on harder surfaces in which eva foam can be solidified by a plastic coat or primed and layed with a fibreglass coat.
