Drum god Chargeeeeee was absolutely amazing last night, still my favorite drummer in visual kei. Marty has such a great band.
>>9325751
What? I just learned he's in other bands! I've seen him perform with ZIZ and I agree, that guy is amazing. I'll have to try and catch him at his next show.
>>9326152
Where did you see ZIZ?
>>9327043
ZIZ opened for Moi Dix Mois and Malice Mizer in Tokyo last summer.
>>9327051
That's fantastic.

Hyde from Vamps and L'Arc~en~Ciel. This was his Halloween costume.
>>9327979
Omg it is...but I shouldn't be so surprised. Harley was the "it" Halloween costume this year.
im a 6'1 skele boy what are some good VK brands to get into? My wardrobe is currently mostly Diet butcher slim skin, Undercover, and Orphic. I reeeealy want to get into VK
>>9327997
Well the whole band was Suicide Squad

Like an Edison【Tokyo shop】Today we hosted the Sibilebashir subject event for "Nakano Gasshukoku"! We hosted a bingo tournament in the event! Commemorative photo shoot with the speech stand used at the photo session.

your height will work against you but your skeletal frame will work for you. you may need to wear Western brands and supplement with Japanese ones depending on what fits your measurements.
Sex Pot Revenge, h. Naoto, and Punk Rave might be good brands to begin looking into. pic related is Sex Pot Revenge.
there is also a Chinese based indie brand called Refuse to be Usual (RTBU) that sells on Etsy and might have bigger sizes for your Western manlegs
but hair and makeup are the most important aspects so if you up your game there, anything you wear can be visual
>>9330776
also Punk Rave is also Chinese i believe, but better quality than usual.
you can also try EGL/gothic brands when you want to be fancy: Moi-meme-Moitie, Atelier Boz, alice auaa. pic related is Boz
>>9312131
It depends on what you're looking for. I get a lot of my stuff through Rarezhut. If you looking for some rare CD's or stuff from older bands, that's the place to go. They have an auction every few months with CD's starting at $1. You cant beat prices like that.
>>9330293
Yes, they did!
>>9331176
>>9330780
Thanks soooo much
>>9328014
Honestly, depending on what you have, those brands and usual goth ninja shit like Julius and Rick Owens can actually work in a vkei look. Pictured is Toshiya from Dir en grey with those stupid Rick Owens shoes, Kyo has worn Julius, Koichi from Mejibray wears a lot of Undercover. Visual kei can sorta work with any type of edgy/dark/alt clothing style as long as you really have the hair and makeup down
Speaking of shops, Deorart got a sale atm.

Jokes aside, nice to see VK's still sticking around.
I saw Versailles in London last week and they were amazing, did any other seagulls go?
>>9343973
I wanted to go and see them, but couldn't. A lot of my friends went though, they all said they were amazing!
old school vk is my favorite.
>>9344585
That's what they all say.
How many male fans are here in this thread?
>>9344937
About 10.
>>9344945
Well I'm here for one, lol. I think vkei has a good ammount of male fans, more than other styles, because it is most often based on the male form.
>>9344948
Lurking through japanese blogs, I've noticed male fans tend to focus more on music and records (for example, CD, demos, etc reviewers are mostly males), while female fans focus more on live reports.
If you mean in terms of cosplay or fashion, I guess yeah, VK is not always effeminate, and a lot of VK can be rather androgynous or straight up manly.
>>9310301
I feel like I am the only vkei person who is into the clothing style, but eh on the music
>>9345369
Great band.
Have you heard C4? (the band tomoi is now in)
>>9344960
I agree with this. I wish more men would come to live performances too. The only visual kei band I can think of with a lot of male fans that come to lives is Nocturnal Bloodlust.
>>9345386
It just depends on the band. I like metal and some of them have metal influences, but others are just pop musicians who can play their own instruments. I could really do without most of the obligatory ballads.
>>9345699
No, I haven't heard of them. But I looked them up and really like them! Ill need to listen to more! Thanks for the advice!
>>9346908
No problem, good to get more people know them, they're one of my favorite vk bands that's still active.
I also forgot, Junji is now in C4. Before him the bassist was Ren (ex-pleur and JILS, bands I also love). But he had to quit the band due to health issues, and Junji replaced him. So C4 is now 50% Laputa.
>>9345750
I'm the same way. A lot of the newer bands don't do anything for me. Nothing really intrigues me anymore. Ill try and get into them, but always find myself going back to the classics.
>>9348411
>>9345750
Newer VK doesn't do it for me either, but I find there's still plenty of older bands that I never heard much and I'm discovering or re-discovering.
sure I still listen to classics like malice mizer and luna sea, but I also listen to far less popular, often very short-lived bands that actually put out really great and unique work.
Nagoya bands like Lamiel, Phobia and kein are amazing. Going back you also find interesting stuff, like if I like Nagoya, I figured I'd like older nagoya bands, and I ended up loving stuff like Merry Go Round or Silver Rose, for example.
I vaguely remember listening to some of these bands back in the day but I didn't pay them their deserved attention.
visual kei has almost 4 decades worth of history, and most people stick with their favorite bands (usually the most popular), but damn VK has a lot of great stuff in their underground indie scene (well, at least some of it, being sincere 90% is trash, but the good remaining 10% is gold)
>>9348425
That's the same boat I'm in. I used to be into the newer stuff, but after a while it all sounded the same. Nothing new was coming out of the scene and it got stale. So I just went back. Now its most of what I listen to. You can find some amazing older bands if you just dig through them!
And with the occasional revival of older bands, it keeps me satisfied. I cant tell you how happy I was when JackRose announced they were coming back. And Raphael announced a comeback, but has since disbanded again.
>>9349575
As long as the musicians themselves don't stop making music, I'm cool. Plenty of veteran VK guys are still around doing stuff. Since VK bands usually don't really last a damn year, it's easier to just follow certain members and track down their different work.
Revivals can be pretty good too though most of the time it's just to perform 1-night only revival lives, I think Raphael was kind of like that, they released a new album as well I think?
Lareine has also made a comeback and released a live DVD (Mayu finally came out of his cave), and Malice Mizer has been teasing small reunions (sans Klaha) during Mana's birthday events for 3 years in a row now.
>>9349631
I've wanted to attend one of those Mizer mini reunions. They look like a lot of fun!

The Gazette released a new look for their 15th anniversary, and it's nostalgic. I can't wait to see if they will release a new single, or if this look will just be for one tour.
>>9349631
Cmon Klaha, come out of hiding! You have some Gardenias to dream of!
>>9353038
If he ever came back, it would be a dream come true. I was just talking to my friend about how we would of loved to see him release more solo stuff. Hell even an opera album! I would of gotten it.
>>9353038
>>9353349
His solo stuff was so weird, somewhat it was even poppier than Gackt (well, lots of ballads in his last EP, setsubou).
Nostal Lab had some interesting tracks (like the spanish-flavored Red Room, or the jazzy chameleon no seppun, I also liked some of the other songs due to the silly video game-like MIDI synth), but yeah it was weird seeing Klaha going from goth bands like Pride of Mind and Malice Mizer to his totally pop solo stuff.
It would be amazing to see him performing with Mizer again, I'd also like to see Tetsu come back and sing some of his classics like Kioku to sora or 16 no solitude.
>>9349575
And Jack Rose in on hiatus again. Aki was arrested for scamming an elderly women out of 3 million yen.
>>9354512
Wow. I'm going to have to look this up.
>>9354745
This is how I found out about the arrest
https://www.monochrome-heaven.com/topic/46437-jack-rose-keyboard-aki-has-been-arrested-and-band-will-be-on-hiatus/
Because of the arrest he was also fired from his other band Concert Moon.
So Avex Group is halting the distribution of all CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays outside of Japan. I think only effects a couple of bands and musicians like Kuroyume and The Mortal are effected but I'm not too savy on all the sublabels that Avex has. Thoughts on this?
>>9356937
Oh joy. Ive just looked up a list of Avex group, and that includes Gackt, Anna Tsuchiya, Luna Sea, D, Wagakki Band, so a couple with vk links.
>>9356955
Gackt is on an independent label, Luna Sea is back with Universal, and D is under God Child Records which is handled by CJ V Ent. (but Avex does some distribution by them? idk). Anna Tsuchiya and Wagakki Band are still sadly under them
>>9356974
Looks like they're banning companies from exporting the CDs and whatnot
>>9357105
I wonder if they can still be sold on the secondhand market.
That really sucks for a lot of these bands. I'm sure they're disappointed by Avex's decision.
>>9357105
Why? I can't think of a single reason why this would be a good idea
>>9357208
Apparently only evil gaijin share music illegally online.
>>9357276
I can't see how this will discourage this of course. It's a strange decision.
>>9344948
It heavily depends on the kind of band. At lives you usually don't see many male fans, at least for indie bands.
>>9357276
Now that that question is answered, why don't they make what's available on spotify in Japan available worldwide?
>>9357313
I'm male and when I went to see C4 (>>9346920), the live venue was about 60% girls and 40% boys. It was the time I saw the biggest ratio of male fans on a visual band live.
It's true that for many indie bands, the fanbase, at least at lives is always mostly 100% female, and the few guys you see here and there sometimes are either accompanying their girlfriends, or just standing back, the front row fun is only for the bangya. But on C4 I saw guys even on the front row.
So yeah it depends on the band.
Then there's the "boys only" lives, I know bands like Janne da Arc, Versailles and Dir en grey did these. (then there was a girls only to compensate).
I think the reason boys don't always fill the live venues is because there's this set idea that lives are for girls. If you went to a VK indies live, you know the fans are all organized, each band has their group of fans, and they all go to the front row when their band performs (for multi live events with more than 1 band, which is the majority of indies vk lives). And the fanbases are always female-dominated, with their own hierarchies and all.
get you a man who drunk-tweets about you the way Mana does about K
>>9356937
No they're not. This is misinformation. Only amazon has done it for all avex distribution companies.(probably a mistake)
CDJapan have clearly stated it's only Avex Pictures(So anime eg Yuri on Ice) that this applies to, NOT Avex Trax. It's likely just them making sure all the western fans don't buy the Japanese release and then not buy the inevitable American releases.
Go check CDJapan yourself
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/tokuten/anime_yurionice
>>9357363
The Japanese music business is incredibly low-tech and behind on their perception of the world though. Or at least incredibly confused at the rest of the world. They're very, very hesitant to digital distribution of music, for instance, insisting that everyone buy their music in albums.
>>9357800
Obviously that works for them, their music industry is huge. But why let people in Japan listen to it online and not for the rest of the world is what I don't get.
>>9357725
Oh thank god. That would have been a massive pain to work around. SS for CDs? When Japan already has them so expensive? No thanks.
>>9358125
Dvds are even more insane though. The price that a single dvd for say a Takarazuka Revue production is absolutely mad.
1st time posting, so i'm probably doing something wrong, but can anybody recommend some old school (or at least relatively old, since what i've been listening to probably isn't super old school) vkei rock stuff?
i've been listening to madeth gray'll, due le quartz, kuroyume, la'mule, old dir en grey etc. and i'm a huge fan of the sound as well as the aesthetic. thanks :+)
>>9359801
Aliene Ma'riage, Da'vid/shito:aL, Noir fleurir, Deshabillz, Sense of Shape, Eliphas Levi, Phobia, Rouage, Angel Dust.
Older stuff: D'erlanger, Zi:Kill, Buck-Tick, Gargoyle
>>9357437
C4 is a band whose members have a long band history, this kind of band always has a much more varied fan base. Major bands always have more male fans because they are more easily accessible and less intimidating (bigger venue will make you stand out lesser to sheer numbers alone). Harder bands like lynch. also have a lot of male fans, same for more visually toned-down but musically much more interesting stuff like everything aie does and emmuree and such.
The truth is that your run-of-the-mill indie vk band caters to female fans because you can't earn money off male fans who buy one copy of every release and sometimes go to a live here and there, you need the girls who buy dozens of the same CD for instores and especially a ton of cheki each live.
If you know the rules you are welcome regardless of gender, otherwise you should stand in the back until you understand them or it won't be pretty.
>>9359801
Lamiel, Blast
Not really that old but highly recommended: deadman
>>9359801
Laputa, Sleep My Dear, Penicillin, Eremia.
I'll need to look through my music, I probably have more suggestions.
>>9360490
Gave em all a listen - thank you for the recommendations! Rouage, Aliene Ma'riage, Sense of Shape, and Phobia were the ones which I enjoyed most. Couldn't find any songs by Angel Dust, though I'm using Youtube, whih is probably the problem.
I fucking loved the older bands you listed. Buck-Tick and Zi:Kill in particular are fantastic. Thank you!
>>9360514
Lamiel is 100% my style. For whatever reason, it seems to always be bands from Nagoya that I like most.
I actually knew about deadman because one of their members is (or was?) in the god and death stars, who I found out about after discovering Kagerou + the studs. Awesome band.
>>9360738
Laputa has fast become one of my favourites after discovering em on last.fm earlier today.
Speaking of looking though your music; do you use spotify/youtube/an alternative, or purchased music? I'm having a hard time finding uploads by certain artists on youtube and spotify is... not great... when it comes to the more obscure ones.

>>9360878
Those were fantastic. Love the instrumentals in Play especially!
>>9360926
Gave Penicillin a listen bc I think I must've missed them in the previous posters recs - their sound is great.
I recognised the vocalist in that Janne Da Arc video from his current solo project Acid Black Cherry. What's interesting is that apparently Penicillin's Chisato played (plays?) guitar for him as support. I pulled that from the VK wiki - not sure how credible it is, but it's what I've been using to figure out artists' previous bands whenever I hear somebody familiar.
Anyway, the song you linked was awesome. Super entertaining performers - even their keyboard player was gettin into it.
A gothic youtuber was going through some fashion history and threw me off by pronouncing this fashion style as "visual kee" instead of what I thought it to be as "visual kay".

Why do a lot of visual kei bands have such shitty/annoying vocalists? I feel like a lot of them are doing a fake voice or something
>>9368904
A lot of the times it's because they're trying to imitate another vocalist.
To be honest I find a lot of vocalists to be annoying, visual kei or not, especially on mainstream pop american music.
>>9368973
I hate how a lot of american pop singers sound as well, but with other genres I can easily find vocalists that I love. With visual kei I'm having a hard time, I like the (symphonic) metal sound but the vocalists I like are in pop rock bands.
>>9368985
If you like symphonic metal you must like either operatic vocals, or growl/death vocals.
There isn't a lot of VK singers that can do operatics well, only Klaha and the duet of Seiji and Nene (from Amadeus) come to mind.
As for death/growls, there's a lot of them, especially nowadays, but I dunno.
I don't have a specific kind of voice I like but just in case I'll tell you the VK vocalists that are my faves: Aki (Laputa), Yuki (Raphael/rice), Yuina (Lamiel/Blast), Yukiya (D=SIRE/JILS), Misa (Nageki Shito/Klein Kaiser)
>>9369001
Thank you anon, I don't know half of them
Any other music theory people here?
I'm trying to measure Kaya's vocal range. So far the highest note I've discovered is his D#5 at the end of Salome, and the lowest note I've discovered is the G#2 at the beginning of Freya.
Anyone know any other notable notes?
I love Schwartz Stein, Velvet Eden, Malice Mizer, and Moi Dix Mois. Is there anything I probably haven't heard of as far as dark Victorian visual kei artists?
Kiwamu: Visual kei's super-villain, a misunderstood genius, or a gothic legend?
I'd say all three are somewhat true...I love his work.
>>9374235
Love his music and style but he has a very unfortunate face.
>>9374275
I think he's cute.
>>9374442
>>9375872
Both great vocalists. I like how Jojo uses glottal stops as his vibrato.
Is Ryonai active?
>>9374235
Why villain?
>>9376237
People think he's a jerk, but they're just jealous.
>>9376073
Me too. He seems surprisingly sweet too even though his lyrics aren't.
>>9376388
One of my favorite things about the Gallo is that the lyrics and themes are unrestrained and may be "offensive" to westerners.
>>9373952
Pride of Mind, synthpop band with the vocalist who would become Malice Mizer's Klaha. Dada from Velvet Eden was also vocalist of this band for a brief period, before Velvet Eden. Really good band, it sounds like a Depeche Mode fanboy band, which is cool by me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuchMmuf188
Blam Honey, industrial/darkwave band that also influenced both VE and SS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW3C98lu9vk
I think at some point Kaya or Dada worked with someone from Blam Honey? not sure. There's also Suppurate System which is another project by one of the BH members. Never got into them much personally but they're definitely interesting.
Amadeus, neoclassical band led by keyboardist and songwriter Hiron. Starred by a male and female duet, Seiji and Nene, a soprano trained vocalist. Seiji would later become Seth in Moi dix Mois, Art Cube and whatever his new band project is called.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0JEgALvV4M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhze-L1CGec
And before Amadeus there was After Image, a more metal, hard rock-oriented proto-Amadeus without Nene. This band sounds a lot like Moi dix Mois, besides having Seiji on vocals, the music has lots of chord progression, organ and harspichords with a hard guitar sound wall. Though it has a more 80s feel to it, it was an early 90s band after all.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNMSVRcapRM
Lareine is a given, you probably know about them.
This was from their recent one-night only revival night a year ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRW71knHkzY
Raphael, another classic you probably know. Both Lareine and Raphael seem more like Malice Mizer in their Voyage era, very poppy, romantic and rococo. But they also have their darker side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWeLIX1pPg
(cont.)
>>9376391
You need to get out of the tumblr bubble
>>9377100
Medusa aka Me-dousa, pretty obscure and short-lived band from the mid-90s I think. They had a similar sound to that of early Malice Mizer, with classical-inspired guitar counterpoint and a strong goth rock vibe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is56QhOowig
Eliphas Levi, rather cult band, due to being part of the Key Party label, this was the label's most Malice Mizer-y band of the bunch. Also, the drummer was formerly in Lareine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTUDZd8AjEU
And while on Key Party, Noir fleurir is also worth checking out, they're like a spanish flamenco-flavored Malice Mizer. Very insane but cool band.
Soft Ballet, this one is more on par with SS and VE, not with Malice Mizer. Classic synthpop, never got much into them either, but they're good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c3m0yvZ5Zg
Aioria, maybe one of the most close to Malice Mizer or Moi dix Mois in sound, lead by guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter Misa, who also had other bands that are worth checking out and also have a similar sound, like Klein Kaiser, Babylon or even his solo work. Aioria sounds a lot like late Malice/early Moi dix Mois, lots of overlapping organ, harpsichord and string synths clashing with a metal wall of sound, in a beautiful way. Vocalist sarino isn't as good as Mana's vocalists, though. But he's not bad either, just average. Misa himself has a cool, low pitched voice (does some chorus in Aioria)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-crZ3_HN1k
Oh yeah, Aioria also has a goth loli guitarist named Michiru who barely played guitar at all during concerts and was more of a performer/dancer, leading the para-para dance with the public. Sort of like Mana during Versailles-era Malice.
(cont.)
>>9377122
Art Marju Duchain, an obscure but still oddly popular (among fans of dark VK) band, who only released 1 mini album.
They are... okay. Not really special I think, it sounds like average darkwave synth stuff with lots of vocal filters to make it sound like it was recorded inside a tomb. I guess some of their songs are catchy.
Anyway check them out, they're generally liked among Mana/Dada fans and also Mana himself participed once with Art Marju Duchain as a guitarist (there's nothing recorded though, although there are pictures of said event)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAFrBkPt0RQ
There's more I'd recommend but I think these cover the most close to Malice Mizer, either in sound or because of relations. There's nothing quite like Malice Mizer though, like there's not a substitute, they were unique.
And last but not least, Kozi, the other half behind Malice Mizer's songwriting. His solo stuff is gold.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hlZlLiuVm8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2agreRP6V0
He's in a bunch of different projects and bands now, like DALLE, ZIZ, XA-VAT (I think this one is disbanded). But his solo stuff was the best. Hope he'll release a third solo album sometime.
>>9377122
Forgot to mention, about Misa from Aioria was also the songwriter for Kaya's Madame Rosa and Babylon.
My hero
>>9377139
I just realized you're talking about Misa from Da'vid. I'm definitely a big fan of him. Did not know he did work with Kaya, who I'm also a huge fan of.
>>9377521
I didn't mention Da'vid shito:al because that band is way more eccentric in both sound and looks, but it's the same Misa, yeah ^^
Da'vid is definitely also worth checking out, and also has classical-inspired melodies in the song compositions. if anything Da'vid is closer in sound to the early era of Malice Mizer, while Aioria closer to late Malice and M10M. But, like Malice Mizer, Da'vid is unique and it's impossible to find similar bands to them.
I'm also a big fan of Misa, he is a music genius.
eye-patches like if you agree
Need more Plastic Tree-like bands

Any links to Da'vid videos? I've tried looking on youtube but had no luck aside for the random stumbling across a single song the other week, Genesis.

Yes, in Youtube there's the "holy grail" of Da'vid videos, a full live concert video from 1998. Mind you the quality isn't the best, it seems to have been recorded by a fan or something, it's not professional recording, but this is still better than nothing considering Da'vid is a rather obscure band, it's almost a miracle that a video like this came to light at all.
On top of the quality not being the best in the source video, the encoding is also quite low quality, these videos were ripped a long ago, I don't know who own the original but I hope they make a new attempt at ripping it with higher quality.
Anyway here it is
Part 1:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkUyT1cyOgI
Part 2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX0Av40OozM
There you can see how their lives were, it's totally insane ^^ how I wish I could have seen them live back then.
As for a song called "Genesis", as far as I know there isn't such a song by Da'vid! they only had a handful of releases and like 12 songs in total, none of them called "Genesis", but who knows! Post it here if you found any video by Da'vid called "Genesis", maybe it's something I haven't seen before.
>>9379369
Ah, I've realised my mistake now. There's someone called 'David' (Sui), who used to be in Megaromania and Lin who's now on a solo stint on Kamijo's Chateau Agency. I mixed David and Da'vid. It's this David who's got a song called Genesis. So far, it's sounding good, and i'm liking his look.
>>9379386
Ah, I see now. The band's full name is Da'vid Shito:aL (pretty weird name, just like the band itself ^^ it means "Apostles of Da'vid").
>>9378757
Try heidi, m:a.ture, Develop One's Faculties, and Marco.
Look up Orange Drama by heidi.
If you really want that laid back slightly raw sound, venture outside of visual kei and listen to some bands like The Pillows and Radwimps.
>>9379403
I love m:a.ture. They are really talented. Its so odd to see Wajow out of VK. But I actually like m;a.ture a lot more than The Gallo
>>9376391
I agree with you. HIs lyrics can get pretty bleak for visual kei. I feel the same about Dadaroma, but I guess I like the angst.
>>9379058
I love Deviloof. I think Deviloof-syphilischancroidchlamydiaclervicitisprotozoaaids is my most fav song by them. I can't wait for them to mature a little bit though.
Any Anti Feminism fans around here?
>tfw you will never see them live
>>9382960
I'm a huge fan. Pic related is me and Kenzi.
>>9383347
Who is that sixth man? Should I know him?
>>9384897
I'm starting to realize lately that Aicle is super popular, still to this day.
>>9385406
I never thought they were that popular. I'm a fan, but whenever mention them people ask who they are. Its very rare that I meet a fellow Aicle fan.
>>9385379
Not sure if Kenzi is really short or if you are a giant, nice pic anyway.
>>9387705
Everyone says that, and both statements are true. Thanks!
Apparently Kenzi was a mentor to Kyo.
I'm really picky about music and am interested in getting into more vkei bands.
I've always been fucking sick for Hyde's solo stuff (I could never tire of Fruits of Chaos--it's perfect), and I have a few Malice Mizer and Buck Tick songs that I love to death.
I'm curious, what attracts you anons musically to your fav vkei bands?
>>9311849
It's a former gothic lolita brand shop staff
>>9388647
I'm also a big Malice Mizer fan. I sort of branched off from there. From Mizer I found Versailles, and from there I found other tanbi kei bands. That's the sub-genre I tend to stick with. Its really hard to describe what exactly I look for in a band. But I do enjoy a strong vocalist and some amazing guitars.
>>9388647
I really wanna respond to this in depth, let me get back to you on that
>>9391191
Still going, eh? How do they sound?
>>9389739
Same here. I was listening to MM one day and in the recommended videos on youtube, up popped The Revenant Choir. The rest is history, and I've grown to love Versailles more than Malice Mizer. In VK bands, I love elaborate looks and costumes, but the music is very important. I favour strong vocals with a symphonic metal or rock feel. I dislike Jupiter as while I think the members from Versailles are great musicians, I think that Zin's voice doesn't suit the instrumentals, it's too pop-sounding and isn't strong enough. I finally became an X Japan fan only very recently, I really love Yoshiki's classical work.
Melvel's members have formed a new band called Yumeleep. They sound a bit darker, but still with their distinctive musical elements. They appear to be oriented towards a creepy yume kawaii aesthetic rather than Melvel's candy colored gurokawa decora aesthetic.

I attempted VK at the SF swap meet, anybody see it?
I didn't get any pictures, my camera was dead before I got there.
Here, have my favorite Mana gift repost.
>>9394202
I don't see how it's yumekawa? Just vk?
>>9394766
I more mean their overall aesthetic than this specific look.
>>9391196
They just released a new PV actually. I like them, but others say they are boring.

>>9394853
That was excellent. They've made a fan of me.

POST HUSBANDOS
Best visual kei bands with a metal sound?

Metal is a very broad term. Give me a subgenre to work with.
>>9397851
>not posting Mana on his own birthday
bro no
>>9397851
>>9397995
I already tributed Mana on the lolita thread, as well as on my Facebook. Hahaha.
Is there a name for this clothing style other than soft visual kei? I see non-visual J-rock guys and just Japanese guys in general dressed like this. What do I really call it?
>>9398691
>not tributing Mana in every thread remotely possible on his own goddamn birthday
all his friends died and his fans just brush him aside, being Mana truly is suffering
>>9398692
>soft visual kei
kek where the fuck did you hear that
looks visual to me. if you are looking for inspo or tags to follow, try mode or rock (rokku) or just "casual vkei" if you need to. i don'y think mode or rock are what you mean though.
>>9397965
The best :)
>>9398911
Where didn't you hear it? You've never heard of sofubi? Do some research.
>>9399065
Like death, black, metalcore, experimental? Or you just want me to send band names? Or links?
>>9399247
I want to know people opinions, what do you think the best visual kei band is that also plays metal? I know it's very broad
>>9399262
Oh, okay!
I think Dir en grey is the golden standard of metal visual kei. Other good bands that follow in their footsteps are UnsraW, Dio Distraught Overlord, Nega, The Black Swan, and Mejibray.
In terms of death metal, check out Deviloof and Nocturnal Bloodlust.
The Nagoya kei scene has a lot of metal that I know not so much about.
There's a visual kei black metal band that I like called Dark Insanity.
Lastly, check out some of the darker PVs from Sibilebashir, check out La Matineé by Aliene Ma'riage, and check out the releases from Insanity Injection.
>>9400211
Truly a god amongst men.
>>9399262
Off the beaten path, but Angelspit keeps it real. Zoog's stage styling is very VK even if he doesn't know it.
>>9400420

I'm making a visual kei flowchart. What are the best and most influential visual kei albums of all time?
>>9401129
>>9401699
Thank you, I fucking love Memoire
Dada is such a whiny little baby, I almost want to unfriend him
>>9399284
Thanks anon! I actually saw Dio live but somehow forgot about them. My friends are only ever talking about poprock vk bands that's why I came here.
>>9404367
Why?
>>9399246
still can't find this in use, pls share caps/source
>>9404367
Kill yourself. People like you constantly hating on him is why VE broke up.
>>9404933
Just google ソフV系
>>9405043
Not that anon, and I do like Velvet Eden (mainly the old stuff when Kalm was in the band, I even own demo tapes by them), but Dada is a whiny little baby.
It's a shame really, he used to be shrouded in a fog of mystery, there were only a few interviews with him released in some indie fanzines from the late 90s and then his lyrics, and nothing else.
Reading him whine about inane stuff in engrish on facebook really ruined his image for me, no longer cool or mysterious, just a whiny guy who bitches a lot when things don't go his way.
>>9405298
Didn't Dada go on a rant about how much he hated foreign fans too? Honestly that dude is a mess. He really ruined his image.
>>9405636
Yeah he did. You can still find screen caps from the outburst on the tanuki tumblr page. I know he also went on a tirade about KOMACHI tights and how if they fail he is just going to quit everything.
>>9400211
Misa is very sexy, with or without visual appareance
>>9401037
I will not deny that my taste is trash. I like KMFDM after all.
>>9407350
Kisaki is probably the shadiest guy in VK.
>>9407792
Can people stop with this meme? Kisaki's talented and good looking, regardless of how you feel about him personally.
>>9400420
on the topic of western bands w/ VK influences, I think Emilie Autumn (don't roll your eyes) is def. inspired by visual kei. A fan bought her old ipod and apparently, one of her fave bands is Malice Mizer and she had all their albums on her old ipod. You can hear some influence from them in her music if you listen close enough. And her stage shows are very visually oriented, and seem to tell a story much like how malice mizer's onstage antics were very much part of the show.
>>9408359
I didn't say anything about his looks, but while we're at it, he has some funny teeth.
Anyway, no, Kisaki's been involved in shady shit and it's not a meme.
First the whole tax evasion problem, which was even on the news in Japan and all.
And second, he lied about his old indie bands before Mirage.
Read this whole thread, some people actually made some serious research and found out Kisaki was flat out lying and using other people's music and claimed it was his
https://www.monochrome-heaven.com/topic/27262-kisaki-conspiracy-strange-things-i-noticed-related-to-kisakis-old-bands-levia-and-laybial/
I mean, the tax evasion, while wrong, I can understand, he was trying to get away with it and get more money, okay. Shady, morally wrong, but understandable, he wanted to keep these extra shekels.
But lying about his old bands just seems like some sort of pathological thing, there was no need.
Also, honestly, Kisaki is pretty average as a musician and as a performer.
He did produce some interesting bands, though. But most of Kisaki-produced bands are kinda generic.
>>9310301
i've just recently started listening to these pic related (lareine) and i'm enjoying them quite a bit. they remind me of malice mizer which i'm also a huge fan of.

klaha is so goddamn beautiful
>>9394854
Their bass player has a crazy ridiculous bass and their singer can actually sing very well live. He really goes for it and I admire his skill.
What's with all the drama lately? You guys get bored or something? There's better ways to make life exciting.
>>9408596
Lets not forget the fact he took pictures of Sui passed out covered in vomit and sent them to a tanuki twitter account. And when it was found out he submitted the pictures himself he threatened to sue. And to top it off he then went onto say that his twitter account was hacked. He really isn't a good guy
>>9409647
How do you know it wasn't hacked?
>>9410164
He admitted he was going to say his twitter was hacked. And then said he felt bad for what he did because he wouldn't be able to perform in bands anymore.
This thread has a lot more information on the scandal and what came from it.
https://www.monochrome-heaven.com/topic/44320-kisaki-project-ft-hitomi-ex-moran-will-performnot-update-1022-not/?page=2
What are some of your favorite lesser known, older VK bands? You know, stuff that has been forgotten by time but you still listen to them (or just discovered recently by chance).
This is GRASS, a favorite of mine.
Memebers are ex-D=SIRE guys with Ya-su (from Ya-foo!, also a somewhat obscure but cult act).
It's hard to explain why I like them so much but I guess it's the strong nostalgic vibe in their music, the atmosphere in the music which has a sort of space rock meets vk sort of thing going on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCbWsOw0AXg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cSyY_KFkNk
It's a shame my favorite songs aren't on Youtube, but these 2, especially Water Ballet, are among my favorites.
>>9412423
You should check out this youtube channel if you like older VK. He uploads a lot of older music that's hard to find.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkMALOUkSodkHpewi660f2A/videos
>>9412757
Nice, thanks!
Lots of very rare stuff there, I must say I don't know most of it, but I see it has a lot of classic oldie legends like COLOR videos.
And coincidentally, there's a song by a band of Mai (guitarist of GRASS), Klein Kaiser! This stuff is rare and cult.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFT4RnPhW68
Mai is the one in the top-left.
The vocalist is Misa by the way (guy from Aioria who I know has many diehard fans, even here!)
>>9379369
GOD I LOVE THIS BAD. So weird and refreshing. I've forgotten about them until now.
>>9412780
No problem! Im happy to help out!

X Japan final set a release date for their new album, June 30th. I wonder if they will actually release it this time
