Anyone know where to get good cabochons and resin pieces?
>>
What's the consensus on Sophie and Toffee?
>>

Okay I guess. I hate buying their shitty cabs but I like their molds. I make my own deco whip so I don't buy anything other than a select few rolls of lace, pearls and chains and of course some nice resin molds. Overall they're pretty ok. I kinda want to buy their monthly sub box but idk if they even still have it
>>
Is anyone else overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of "decoden" case sellers with really amateur skills? I feel like I have to swim through waves of this crap to find something decent. It's always the same blob whip with random cabochons slapped on. Hardly anyone is very good at it.
>>
>>9291758
I agree completely, I don't know how it's so hard for someone to pick a coherent theme
>>
If anyone finds a decent Sailor Jupiter themed decoden case for a Samsung S5 lemme know...
>>
>>9294777
YYkawaii? She does custom orders for all phones and pretty any character you want
>>
>>9294777
Look up sellers that do custom cases. I personally don't like YY's cases (I find them too busy), but there are others like LoveTheKawaii.
>>
So I was hoping to do some deco pieces, but its been awhile. Does anyone still use the sillicone sealant method? Like the paste that you use for sealing bathrooms? Recipes would be helpful too. Thanks.

Where do you get your cabs, anon?
>>
I have a question.
Please don't bully.
I just arranged a bunch of bubble stickers on my phone.

How do I protect them from falling off. Like some kind of coat?
>>
>>9297898
You could do a few coats of matte varnish. You can buy the spray or brush on kind.
>>
>>9297906
Thank you.

But I have another question, does varnish have the same ingredients as nail polish?

My brother works in construction and mentioned that the sticker paint might dissolve with the varnish.

Well I just painted one with nail polish and the sticker is intact, so varnish might work. He suggested that I could coat the case with white glue.
>>
>>9298000
It's the same thing, Brits just say nail varnish to be special
>>
>>9297898
A thin layer of resin would work best I think. Nail polish comes off and won't protect the stickers.
>>

>>9298000
yes and no. nail varnish = nail polish. but there are many different kinds of varnish besides nail varnish. spray varnish (like krylon) is pretty good for most purposes. brush-on polyurethane varnish is good and tough.

white glue will work but will not be as durable. it will peel fairly soon. if you want something water-based, maybe try mod podge.

it should go without saying, but always test varnish or clear coat on a spare sticker and on an inconspicuous part of your phone case before slathering your case with it. not only do you want to find out if the solvents will melt your shit, but also, if it's a product you haven't used, you should get a feel for how to apply it so you don't end up with goopy brush strokes (brush) or runs/sags/overspray (spray).

sorry if this sounds too "crafts 101." I would rather post too much info than too little, though.

samefagging to add:

if you want to find out which varnishes might dissolve the stickers before actually buying a varnish, you might be able to ask your bro or someone to let you test out a few different solvents (xylene, acetone, etc.) and see what they do. then you can check the ingredients of the varnish before you buy it and see if it's ok to use. it'll list the ingredients on the side of the container.

What's the best place for cabos then? I can't find another good site
>>
I've made deco cases before but I've got an old slider phone (Samsung J700) which I don't use but want to make an accessory. Given that it's a phone from before cases were a thing, I'm guessing I have to apply all the deco stuff directly onto the phone? I've tried looking at old decoden pictures and it seems a lot of the time adhesive gems were used. Any idea/advice for what to do?
>>
>>9304045
Yeah, you apply it directly to the phone. E6000 seems to be the adhesive of choice.
>>
I'm looking at decoing a phone case for myself. Just printed art, glitter, slickers and junk, no whip. Does this work on flexible cases, or does it have to be a hard case?
>>
>>9305921
if it's deco like gems and stickers, it should work on a soft case.
whip has to be on a hard case because it needs a surface to adhere to and a flexible case can cause the whip to fall of when it gets bent.
>>
Are there any ali/ebay sellers that specialise in deco supplies? Tempted to give it a go but I'd rather everything arrives in one order
>>
Have you ever used acrylic or rubber straps in decoden (instead of figure charms or resin pieces)? Anyone have examples?
>>
A bit of a long shot but has anyone else ordered from Candy Crystal lately and not got a confirmation email? I placed my order on Wednesday 5th and got my paypal confirmation, but nothing from CC.
>>
>>9313099
Like charms? I'm sure it must be common enough. found this one on the instagram tag today, by chorokitty.
>>
I know this thread is pretty dead but I have a dumb question.
I want to buy the japanese deco whip but I know it comes in a non-resealable bag. Whats the best way to store it once you've opened it?
>>
>>9313971
Update: Package arrived yesterday (Tuesday 10th) with some cabochons missing as they were out of stock and I will be refunded. Still no email. Decided to order replacements for missing cabochons from an Etsy seller. I'm disappointed because when I've ordered from CC before they've been very good.
