Who are your favorite girl / main cosplay girl from each series? Do they have anything in common? Do you go for a certain kind of character or do they differ a lot?

Also post pics of your 2017 plans!

Requesting idol designs with weapons/ props please! I know of the Cinderella Girls/ Granblue collab but I'm looking for slightly lower-effort options since the designs are so elaborate. Pic related from the collab as an example.

Answering OP questions in one picture.

My goal for 2017 is to make on cosplay of each one of my Idol favorites!
I like shorter girls with boobs (except for flatchest Iori, I just like her since she is such a bitchy little girl)

First 6 girls I am deadset on making next year (I am already working on Nana). The last 3 ones I'll make if I get the time.
>>
You gulls seen the new u's animal set? Personally I think it's hideous.
>>
>>9284887
its definitely one of the more uglier sets i've seen from klab, i was hoping for something nicer.
>>
>>9284887
Fucking hell, thank you. I like it unidolized but idolized is a tacky mess.
I've only seen people sing praises about it.
>>
>>9284887
I like Maki's idolised decently enough , Eli's is average but god, Nozomi's is so ugly
>>
>>9284887

I dont get why Nozomi and Eli have animals that have technically been done in some way and have theirs flipped. Since Nozomi has had a Tankuki and Eli had what looked like some kind of fox (Fennec?) So why recycle it? Though I'm glad Nozomi has something a heck of a lot better than her rendition of a 'penguin'.
I'm going to hold out for the rest, the main thing I'm taking away from this as a silver lining is that if you get an animal group, you have three things to choose from if you got very unlucky with the girls previous designs.
>>
>>9285056

I really feel that Nozomi always gets the ugliest outfit of the bunch.
>>
>>9284887
That unidolized Maki seems pretty cute tbqh.
>>
>>9285512
I feel like fairy tale Nozomi is so commonly done because it's one of the first times that she didn't get the short end of the stick design wise.
>>
>>9285761

My friends want me to do heartbeat with them since they're Eli and Nico cosplayers, however when looking through the designs I can't find any I dont hate enough to buy or I could make better myself for uniformity. I also limit myself to one per set otherwise I'll just be stuck with Love Love forever unless theyre significantly different.
If the wind suddenly decides to change direction the other two end up with uggo designs so we literally cannot win.
>>
>>9286172
I seriously couldn't understand anything of what you just said
>>
Mfw I got into Love Live late and my fav Nico outfits are China Dress and Seven Lucky Gods, and they feel so overdone. But I can't justify spending the money on outfits that I don't love love either... I just want to be a cute idol too.
>>
>>9286358
The seven lucky gods outfits are rarely done so go for thst one!
>>
>>9286351

Thats what I get for trying to post when I've just woken up and had a crappy nights sleep... jesus christ I wont be trying that again.

Basically I was agreeing with the convo about Nozomi having shit designs most of the time. My friends want me to do Nozo for Heartbeat but unfortunately most of the designs she has are shit, and those rare moments where she pulls a good one Eli and Nico are on the other end of the scale and have uggo designs. I dont really want to do that to my friends just so I can look nice.

Another problem is that I like to limit myself to one character per set unless they're two very different designs (so I wouldn't do two of sunny day song but might for china dress) so if there is one of nozomi's which is passable, there is usually someone else I like more and don't want to drop money on it or make it... I just wouldn't love it as much to be honest and shes not even in my top three.

Hopefully that's a lot more readable! Sorry you had to be subjected to my poor sluggish mind.

Sometimes it can be nice to hear others point of view too!
I agree with Nozomi pulling the short straw many times, I have only a few ones I ove of her.

These are sets where I find them all looking really nice, but that's my opinion
>>
>>9286492
You could just do school uniforms?

I know not hugely exciting but considering in most sets nozomi gets the short straw bar the ones where you get a naked Eli or just tack, that might be the only way you can go

What about snow halation? That's pretty okay. Her hair is nice too
>>
>>9286358
Go for Seven Lucky Gods. That's my favourite set and is barely done, idolized or unidolized

>>

I'm seriously curious why Germany made it into the selection. I'd rather expect France, Canada or something like Mexico/Brasil in the list. Is the interest in LL or the community so big here? Or just a convenience choice since it's literally in the middle of Europe?
>>
>>9292612
It was big enough in Germany that they had a delayed movie screening there.
>>
>>9292612
The Japanese are learning to love Germany for its Disney-like castles.
>>
>>9292612
Germany have a huge amount of weebs there, just a little behind France. They've recently had the manga published there too.
I'm more surprised th UK was put in the poll. Sure we had the movie screened here twice(I'd be surprised if the second was licensed at all, it was shown at mcm and publicised on a forum)but we've barely had a look in by the official licensers. Maybe someone tipped them off of the large cosplay uk comm? Or just Japans idolisation of London.

I would like to make Mayu for valentines day but I think clashing pinks is really ugly. I'm thinking of doing the overskirt and part under the lacing in white instead. Yes or no?
>>
>>9294138
No. These pinks aren't clashing because they have the same warm tone. You're just weird. The only part I wouldn't do is the ombre to purple on the skirt, middle of the bodice, and sleeves.I would just make those the same pink as the rest of it and leave it be.
>>
>>9294196
It is the purple/pink part I meant that is clashing with the warm pink the rest of the outfit has

Just do them in the pink as the rest of the outfit. It's not supposed to be white. I thought you meant you wanted to change the red lacing to white.
>>
>>9294494
Sorry for not beingvery clear. I'll make them pink and maybe do a warm pink gradient instead of a cold purplish color

Don't be put off, it's very simple. Just make sure you horsehair braid the living shit out of the skirts, get your proportions right and get a nice fit in that bodice!

Salty af

If you've got little experience with cosplaying, getting things to neatly go into points and putting a trim on the edge of skirts isn't the easiest thing to do.

Well, putting a trim NEATLY on the edge of skirts without it pucking to hell and back isn't the easiest thing to do.

Just curious, but do you feel obligated to learn dances when cosplaying an idol?
>>
>>9299354
Nah.
>>
>>9299308
I don't know what trim you were using but bias tape will go fine. I actually finish all my circle skits with single fold on the underside because it's easier than turning the fabric twice
>>
>>9299308

Also investing in a bias binding foot can save you a lot of headaches if the person is either in a rush or new to it (depending on the width you have) you could save yourself time.
I just made bias binding from the same fabric from the top as well so I didnt have to worry about matching up the shades.
>>
>>9299354
learn the signature poses. It.
>>
>>9299354

If you dont want to, no. It takes a long time to learn one and to get it to look good - if you're new to it anyway.
>>
>>9299308
You sound like you really suck at sewing, because those are basic as fuck skills and easy to do.
>>
>>9299429
Making bias tape itself isn't that easy if you don't pick the right fabric from the get go. Some fabric looks nice on a bodice but is a disaster to bias.
>>
>>9299453
>Making bias tape
>Not easy

Do you just not sew or...
These are all basic beginner skills. Wtf are you making bias out of because almost anything you would use for this costume would be fine.
>>
>>9299453

I'm going to have to agree with the gull below you here. I've used a wide range on materials and the only time I've ever really had a problem is when the bias required is a thicker one on a circle skirt, as it begins to struggle to fit into the space left and you get folds or puckers trying to force it in. Pretty much every costume I've done has required it, so it's not as though its a rare thing to do. It just sounds like you need practice.
Nowadays I just add on an extra meter to fabric that I buy out of habit because I'm probably always going to need it.
>>
>>9299468
I personally have had noone actually team me anything, and completely self taught.

I presume, if you've NEW TO SEWING like ANON SAID, you might struggle a tad with it.

Like I did, when I was new to sewing, like anon said they are.
>>
>>9299800
*teach

Boxing day is hard, ok?
>>
>>9299800

Calm down.

I'm also self taught, and even then bias binding was a breeze. You sew a line, flip, sew a line. The most irritating part is pinning the living crap out of it and if you're not an idiot with your deadlines it wont be a painful experience.
Youtube exists, books exist, it's not that hard.
>>
>>9299800
I'm self taught too but there is nothing hard about cutting strips of fabric and ironing them. If you are having a difficult time attaching the tape then hand sew it. You have more control that way.

I feel like too many people equate time consuming with difficult.

So did a scout and was able to idolise pic related.

Made me think. I don't remember Muse cards being this obvious with fanservice. I know they have one, but it's not outright, tops unzipped tits out like Aqours have...

Not sure how I feel about it...
>>
>>9299800
I actually agree with you. Speaking generally, I feel like a newbie won't understand to cut strips on the actual bias of the fabric. I can imagine that they won't iron it down evenly. Sewing such extreme points is probably going to be difficult for a beginner too. Will they know to snip the corners? What beginner is going to even know what horsehair braid is? Sure, a smart beginner would do some research before starting but they're not necessarily going to know the correct terms to use to look up the tutorials they'll need. It's great that anons here think highly of beginners, but considering some of the beginner-made costumes at conventions... I have to agree that making forever star might be a bit of a headache for a beginner.

There is a reason for the cards at least, they reused the old promo art.
I don't get this recent attitude of MUSE ARE ANGELS!!! DO NO WRONG!!! AQOURS ARE JUST FOR CASH!!
like guys, you realise they made a 2nd gen for hella dollar because Muse made hella dollar? You can be salty and try and drag Aqours through the mud, finding any issue you can with them that wasn't already there with Muse. Stupid ass Bikinis? Sure but they used to promote Muse too.

Im annoyed at the fact Kanan and You are the "slap a bikini on it" girls, the promotion for Aqours has been pretty much the same as Muse though.

tldr: 'member muse
>>
>>9300934

There's a difference between not hitting all of the nails on the head and outright refusing to research and look up the outline of the methods. To be honest I'd been using bias binding a while and hadnt been doing the corners 'correctly' in the technical sense, but up until I realised in a video that someone did it differently what I'd been doing had been working for me perfectly fine up until then. As long as you can get it to work for you, then there's no harm in giving it a try rather than telling people "nah m8, too hard".

I'd respect someone more who tried and gave it a go with a few things to do up to make it spot on than someone who just buys all of the pieces or the costume itself (I dont have a problem with people doing that, but making an effort is a nice sign of gumption in the idol community we have today)

tl;dr encourage others to actually have a go at making instead of pushing people in the direction of buying and commissioning crap.

Not that anon, but I get what they're saying? It's not like Muse cards aren't fanservicey, just look at Chinadress NozoEli. It's just that in comparison Aqours has much less cards out but a higher ratio of cards heavily featuring blatant fanservice, either with colors highlighting their boobs or awkward butt poses (similar to Baseball Maki, the outfit itself was okay but the pose was obviously meant to be sexy). For example, we've only had 4 full UR+SSR+SR sets out and here's a general list of in-your-face fanservice cards.

> KananMari diving cards
> You/Kanan SSRs
> You Promo UR
> Mari/Maru Cheerleader SSR

Ignoring the obvious fanservice connotations of a swimsuit and cheerleader set, this is a pretty high amount of cards with blatant fanservice in comparison to Muse cards.

>>
>>9301079
I get you on the blatant fanservice, it's annoying. The attitude of we must quickly fly to nitpick anything about Aqours because their new and not Muse(cmon guys, they want to have a Idolm@ster set up up here, its so blatant).

I aint gonna lie, only Aqours cards Ive enjoyed are the Kimono sets, Halloween(their best set so far) and perhaps half of the Cheerleader set. Aqours hasn't got their ground in the female fanbase like Muse got yet, which is a shame. Im just a bit tired of Muse stans constantly glossing over flaws with Muse to have a kick at Aqours.

I think you're a total retard. It's a costume that only looks good if you have incredible amounts of skill. The other anon is dumbshit but to get the bodice to look sleek and perfect, it takes experience.

Eh, I disagree, at least Im@s dances take some level of skill and have a higher difficulty rating. 99 Nights, Fate of the World, Dream come to mind in particular - you wont catch people vogueing their shit up with mogyutto doing something as complex as those, at least not without making it look like shit.

I dont understand the appeal of Nana, someone explain please. Or does it boil down purely to bunny ears and being one of the older idols?
>>

Honestly I feel like Nana is one of those characters where either you love her or you dont care about her. I'm a fan of her, I like a lot of her outfits and I'm a fan of her personality... She's kinda like a weird caricature with how shes constantly trying to tell people shes 17 but nobody buys it.

Also yeah, the bunny ears are definitely a part of it

Anyone else noticed how Love Live cosplayers UK is full of complete spergs?
Where do I find the cosplayers who aren't just trying to post themselves with their friends as 'ships' and competing as 'best ship' or waste time having petty fights about their groups?

I love the designs and dances and I know there are some older LL cosplayers but they seem cliquey as fuck and I don't want to be left with the sperg children who can't be bothered to cut the goddamn bangs. (pic related)

I love aqours, actually. This had nothing to do with aqours vs muse.

It's purely that I don't remember any which are literally "look tits!"

Yes, there are swimsuit cards, the marine cards, cards with boobs on show but none that I can recall with the top unzipped and gaping literally to show boobs.

Except penguin nozomi.

u's had their fanservice for sure. And while I know she isn't actually a u's girl, that N card girl is from the u's era of llsif and she was always crazy over sexualised imo.
>>
>>9301790
It's slightly excusable with Hanamaru but the other ones definitely need a trim
I've noticed LL cosplayers tend to get the uncut-bang critique a lot even though it's a general newbie thing. Were a lot of people inspired to start cosplaying via LL?

What this anon said >>9301781
I love Nana because she is s bit delusional but also hardworking. I love the "I'm an alien " persona. She also have hands down my favourite outfits and I'm a sucker for Bunny Ears
>>
>>9301805
As I said, I know there are fanservice cards but none so literally as top unzipped, boobs being pushed out sorta stuff.

I kinda feel, particularly with kanan, that it's borderline softcore porn: she's dripping wet, she's winking, her legs are parted and she's peeling back her wet suit to reveal her boobs. If not softcore porn it's certainly in the realm of pin ups.

Imo, there's a difference. Like, the swim suits are very revealing, the poses are somewhat suggestive but like, it's not to that level.
>>
>>9301790
That Maki is not just in need of a wig styling

Makeup. She needs makeup

>>9301823

No. Hanamaru's bangs never touch her nose tip.
It's not OK, it's just plain lazy.
>>
>>9301827

>>
>>9301811
A lot of young cosplayers in the UK do (probably since it's decently easy to get ahold of LL cosplays nowadays) but young teens not cutting their bangs is fairly understandable. Sadly a lot of LL cosplayers way into their twenties here don't even attempt to cut theirs though.
>>
>>9301811
I know a fair few people who are older and have been cosplaying longer than me who don't cut their love live wigs.

I think they're just lazy.
>>
>>9301788
the older ones seem cliquey so that the younger spergers don't try to bother them. don't even bother with idol groups, find friends who are good at cosplaying and just stick with them.

That being said, can I req some pictures of love live or any idols that actually have nicely styled wigs. I have a few I can dump from what I've found on instagram.
>>
Related to wigdome in Love Live

I am an Eli fan and want to cosplay her but I have dark hair and a very low hairline. With the ponytail wigs, the base doesn't come/stay low enough to cover my hairline. I've tried pins but it doesn't stay down.

Any hints or tricks?

I hate seeing cosplays where it's the wig that lets them down but I'm kinda stumped here. Not ever done a character with an up do before
>>
>>9302811
if you mean the hair line at the base of your neck, you can shave some of the lower hairs off. try using wig combs instead of hair pins too.
try getting one of those wigs that's a short base + a ponytail clip too. those are easier to wear/manage than a wig with an actual ponytail like the arda ones.
>>
>>9302811
You have to invest in an arda wig or another western seller for large heads. On top of that ponytail wigs usually don't fit right out of the bag. You need to take the time to put it on properly then have someone help you reponytail it carefully. Also giving the with "baby hair" or just a bit of hair coming down at the neckline gives some coverage and looks me natural anyway.
>>
>>9302811
With Eli wigs, you have two options: the ones that have a ponytail wig as a base wig, and the ones that have a regular wig. For the first ones, you'll probably have to shave up some hair. I have the exact same problem as you and this was enough for me to look acceptable. With the other type of wigs... you can leave the back a bit longer to hide your hair when you style it, I think that'll work.
>>
>>9303082
>>9303108

I take it you mean the little clips you sew into a wig? I actually have a few on order to try that method, so I'll see how that goes.

I'll try the short hair base after exhausting the ponytail one, and do the shaving last. Simply cause I will probably have to do that myself as when I've asked in the past people have said no.

>>9303086
Oh, I have a really small head (like wigs often are too big) so the net size isn't an issue. It's purely the hairline bit.

I'll try retying the ponytail though

Thanks for your help.

Does any other country have issues with Love Live fans?

Like, in the UK, female cosplayers get super possessive over the girl they like cosplaying. To the point of downright nastiness. I'm kinda surprised there's not been a cat fight, if I'm honest, with how these girls can react to someone wanting to do the same character as them.

I've said about doing certain girls, and had people say I can't as they bagsied her first. People have been posted on here saying they're fat/ugly shortly following a UK con scene, and it's purely because that person was "first" when a group formed. It's pretty petty.

So yeah, not experienced it with any other fandom (even other idol ones are super nice) and I'm genuinely curious if any other country has this issue?

Any idea why it seems limited to Love Live? Cause like, even people who can be Love Live and im@s their attitudes are totally different.

*random rant sorry*
>>
>>9303776
It's probably because Love Live is more mainstream than other idol franchises. There's bound to be shittier fans. I'm sure there are gross Im@s fans but the fan base outside of Japan is much smaller so they're not as noticeable.
>>
>>9303782
But the same people that cause the shit stirring in Love Live don't do it for im@s (they've started bleeding over).

Though maybe they're not as invested as I'm sure none of them have actually watched any of the animes or played the console games, just the card app thing.
>>
>>9303784

I'm actually happy about the fact that they're leaving the 765 girls alone. The last thing I need is them shitting those up for me.
>>
>>9303776
Where I am theres one person who ALWAYS bags on people other than themself cosplaying Eli, saying that they own her and are the only one worthy of cosplaying her, even though they're ugly and make even nice taobao bought costumes look like party city shit. I've also had some other Nicos give me dirty looks when I used to cosplay her, which is part of the reason why I've decided to not cosplay from LL anymore.

I feel like it probably has a lot to do with the fact that Love Live is the most popular anime for girls to cosplay from these past couple of years, so some people get bratty about wanting to be known as the "best" of a character in their local scene so clearly the only way to do that is to be the only one of that character... which is preeeeeeeeetty difficult when theres 200 cosplayers and 18 main girls.

im@s fans are super happy to just see that theres other people into the series around, since it's not as popular in the west (thanks scamco). That, and the im@s fanbase tends to be a LOT older and more mature than the LL fanbase, LL is full of teens in babbys first cosplay wanting to be the most popular person out there.
>>
>>9303776
>>9303792
It always makes me so sad hearing this about the UK scene. I just want to give you anons a hug and let you know that we aren't all bad! I love seeing others cosplaying my main girl and would love to get a group together of loads of different outfits and do a big photoshoot.
>>
>>9303782
The fact that the Love Live game is available with an English server has helped it a lot. Idolmaster is pretty unavailable especially the newer stuff.
>>
>>9303776
Can confirm this happens in Australia
>>
>>9303792
im@s fans clutch to one another, as you rarely get another one. Particularly for 765.

That certainly makes sense, but you can't really get famous and known for being THAT Eli or THAT Chika, because like, outside of the Love Live community nobody gives a shit about it.

>>9303870
This would be a dream, but people get so salty over people being the same character even in different outfits. A shit tonne of snubbing and snarky comments.

>>9303876
That's quite interesting to know and somewhat reassuring, as bad as that may be, that we're not alone in our salt.
>>
>>9304009

Probably if you talk like you type.
>>
>>9303792
You bring up a good point. Maybe it's because there's only 18 girls to pick from? So people tend to be more possessive because there's slim pickings.
I don't know, it's a really weird mindset. I have seen other fandoms get like this for groups though, it's just something you see among (mentally) immature cosplayers.
Babby's first cosplay + they think cosplay is a popularity contest = there's only room for one [x] in this town?
>>
>>9301591
It's funny people mention this because idolm@ster dances are much more engaging and difficult to follow than LL and I've danced both. I'm on the more competent side of anime dancers and I find that LL just has silly movements that are easy to mimic and predict while there are more idolm@ster dances that have high difficulty and also you can tell were choreographed by people who know what they were doing. Take Ai Like Hamburger for example. It's silly but it completely fits the aesthetics of the song and takes quite a bit of movement and power to dance. Then take Love Novels for Love Live. It's unengaging, silly, and every move falls upon the beat of the song. I find that Love Live dances are leagues easier than any idolm@ster dances, even the easier ones. Idolm@ster just handles group dances better. When a person isn't the lead in an im@s song, they still have something visually interesting happening in their choreography where as in Love Live its usually just standing in a cute pose pointing at the other girls. Idolm@ster dances FEEL like they're choreographed by someone who knows what they're doing and for idols who can perform at a high standard, especially Honey Heartbeat. The LL dances seem like dances someone choreographed specifically for people who can't dance.
>>
>>9305216
>I find that LL just has silly movements that are easy to mimic and predict while there are more idolm@ster dances that have high difficulty and also you can tell were choreographed by people who know what they were doing.

isn't that kind of part of the aesthetic of the shows? im@s idols are pro idols who are part of an agency. they have coaches for every aspect of their career. LL on the other hand, is a bunch of amateurs trying to slap a good performance together.
>>
>>9305232
That's a good point, but I digress. I think it's funny though that imas dance are harder yet more people can do them. I see so many absolute train wrecks of LL shows that its embarrassing and it really is just flailing.
>>
Question for the im@s fans: How do you suggest someone get into the series? I'd really love to learn more about the franchise but I'm not sure where exactly I should start, especially with how inaccessible much of it seems to be.
>>
>>9305295
Start with the 765 anime then the 346 if you're looking to delve into Cinderella Girls. If you only want to do 765 then I would watch the anime then the game plays on YouTube for iDOLM@STER 2. If you're enjoying the characters, then I would look into playing Shiny Festa. It's for the PSP which is easy to emulate and has all the songs from the games and show and even has little OVAs for each of the 3 games in the Shiny Festa series. If you don't want to attempt this, then I would suggest the movie after that. It introduces you to some characters in one of the 3 idolmaster mobage out right now. You could then get the mobage: Million Live, Cinderella Girls, and Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage. Million Live is under the concept that 765 Pro settles down and makes its own theater where productions are held like AKB48. Cinderella Girls is like being a freelance producer and picking up girls to make part of your team. Both of these games are more or less pure gacha and energy games where all you do is log in and click around to use your energy, but even this is hard to do with a lack of understanding of Japanese. Starlight Stage is a rhythm game that's a lot of fun and easy to navigate once you play around and has all the Cinderella Girls which are from the CG anime, so you should watch that prior to playing just to get a feel for some of the girls since you can't do that with Japanese game chat logs. Starlight Stage is really an amazing game and I'd recommend it. It's gacha too, but the music is great, the gameplay is refreshingly challenging, the girls are cute, and it's constantly being updated. If you get this far, you can consider emulating the actual console games, but this is difficult since they're hard to navigate and completely in Japanese. I would just watch the dance and song videos online and watch the translated chats. If you want to only do CG, then skip the parts about console games and 765 Pro. There you have it.
>>
>>9305306
Thanks anon! I've been playing deresute off and on for a while now because of my love for rhythm games and just started emulating Shiny Festa today. I'll definitely start watching that iM@S 2 playthrough and the anime soon!
>>
>>9305267
I imagine because the girls that actually dance gravitate to im@s cause it's more challenging from them. The people with little rhythm go to Love Live as it's easier for them and they don't have to think.

I do both. In my im@s group, I'm probably one of the weakest dancers, in Love Live, I'm easily one of the best. SweetnSweet holiday, Mermaid Festa, Love Novels - all trainwrecks. They're so simple but they don't seem to be able to get them at all.

I don't really think it's fair to include swimsuits if we're going to tar kanan with the brush when she's wearing more than Maki is. Every anime ever pretty much has a swimsuit set for promo art or the dreaded beach episode and it's all designed for fan service.

As for fierce, overmaster. What's with all these people asking for idolmaster dances when they're the most easy to find on YouTube? Stop being lazy and go and look through them and Wiki's for songs used that have choreo.

I do sort of feel like this as well with regards to UK comms. Unlike other fandoms, LL cosplayers seem very reluctant to talk to other people in the fandom at cons and some give off the impression that they feel they're "too good" to talk to those who are "lesser" than them. It all does seem very clique-y, which surprised me when I first cosplayed Love Live recently.
>>
>>9309142

The whole community has people like this in general, it's not isolated to a single fandom.
>>
>>9309211
I think anon (and myself and no doubt others) feel it's particularly true of love live fandom.

Usually it's a minority. In the UK, that kinda attitude pretty much defines love live fans.
>>
>>9309291

Never said I don't agree, the fandom is high in toxicity because of the type of people in it - mostly young girls who can't handle competition. But in recent years this is something which has been happening across the board. So in that scenario you either toughen up or keep to yourself away from all of the crazies.
There seems to be a lot of drama from you guys in the UK, do you all just know each other and secretly hate each other or something?
>>
>>9309309
We just love a good ol' bitch.

What tends to happen here is we want to form a full group. Ok that means girls call their fave, some will take one for the team and a non fave sure. However if someone gets their fave in one group, however shitly they wear it, they are now queen of that girl. That goes over to other groups and they refuse to give up the character. Happens alot with Nico, Nozomi and Maki and is now going over into Kanan and Mari. I've said to a friend "Nozomi looks so much fun to cosplay" and been answered with "but I'm Nozomi." after she'd cosplayed her one time.
It's just clingyness and feeling offput of being a double, especially if the cosplayer is someone popular. Personally I don't give two shits, I find a double hey can we take a pic? Just don't give two shits.
>>
>>9301811
I think since so many of the LL girls have the "sideswept with a stray piece in the middle" bangs people think they don't need any styling. Understandable, but still wrong.
>>
>>9305216
I feel like that problem is mostly with the subgroup dances in Love Live, and mostly because they were originally choreographed for the live concerts. The Love Live seiyuu are singers/actresses first and dancers second, and although they've gotten much better with training over the years, the first songs were definitely choreographed with that in mind. Especially the subgroup songs are pretty minimal on the movements and jumping because it's harder to disguise the difficulty of singing while dancing when it's only three girls. Also all we've got is the concert versions for these songs, and they tend to include some dead space where the girls are running around stage waving at the audience, and the dance covers don't tend to fill those holes well.

Idolmaster choreography is definitely more realistic for idols, but a lot of the time in concert the seiyuu aren't really doing the dance to the same level as the anime/game anyway-- there's less jumping around and shit. There's a Tokimeki Escalate comparison on youtube that makes it really obvious.

And then of course most Love Live cover groups can't dance even the most basic shit to save their lives, so there's that.
>>
Hi, I am one of the Hanamaru cosplayers in that picture of bad styled wigs xD Have you ever thought about the fact I just did a quick try-out?? Anyway, Hanamaru's bangs are SERIOUSLY easy to style, there's really no excuse to post shitty ugly "quick try-out" selfies when you could've taken 30 whole seconds out of your life to at least cut the middle piece. You are lazy, and now that we do "know the full thing" we're allowed to say that you are.

>>9309510

Wow so you just have sets with one of each girl? That's really sad.
Katsucon a year ago had a great turnout for the LL meet with a mix of costumes, and girls and it was fun. We got character shots with all of the ones there with a few aquors girls having to go solo as it hadn't aired yet.
>>
>>9309309
As what >>9309510 said. It's more the sorta... Hoarding of the characters that is the issue. And people get shitty if you dare cosplay the same person as them.

It's ridiculous. I've encountered it before, but it was very isolated and only 3 people if that. But with this fandom it's like... Everyone does it.

There's no real friendship either, people are nice nice to your face then bitch behind your back, or push you out in a way where you're not sure if it's you being weird or them.

Half the posts here that single out cosplayers or groups are done purely because that group/cosplayer did something the poster wanted to do as well. Be it a dance, a cosplay set. Anything. Then when one person posts something in a vendetta, people who know that person/that person themselves hits back and posts who they think it is.

It's so much like high school is sickening.

I mean, sometimes it's warranted, some things are generally bad or cringe. I don't know if it's a British thing, but people generally don't like to be the one who tells someone something is bad. You never know what the backlash will be. Even when they say they want criticism, they can lash out to helpful suggestions.

Heck, has happened here with the girl asking about fake guns in conventions, then got shitty when the response wasn't what she wanted.

>>9309593
With regards to this, not everyone in that was doing just a costest - some were in full costume. But anyway, you'd get a better idea if the wig was styled prior, as to whether or not it'll suit.
>>
>>9309729
There can only be one of each, and if you are there in a matching outfit but didn't "sign up" to the group prior you get snubbed unless you really push it so they can't not reply/acknowledge you.

This is even if you're a character they don't have. It's so... Odd. I'd love to go to one of the us love live meets but I doubt I'll be able to afford it.
>>
>>9309593
Then isn't it pointless to do a "quick try-out" if the wig isn't even styled?
I've cosplayed Hanamaru too and I still trimmed the wig before posting pictures online.
>>
Can the UK LL fandom keep their salt off of cgl now?
We've had enough of it already.
I'm tired of it personally.
>>
>>9309739
I enjoy cosplaying love live for this reason. I love the validation I get from people cracking the shits about me cosplaying their best girls and doing it better :^)
>>
>>9309802
This. The salty ugly fatty-chans can just fuck off.
>>
>>9309778
What salt?

Wigs: People annoyed that people don't cut their wigs - a lot of Love Live people don't do this. Posted examples. OTHER COUNTRIES AGREED. Hanamaru-chan got butthurt (Note: I don't think it was personal, pure examples)

Attitude: Someone asked about other countries and the fandoms surrounding it. Used UK fandom as example of crappiness generally in it. Other countries said yay or nay.
>>
>>9309802
I take it all humorously, I don't really get it when someone takes it as a personal attack when someone else dares cosplay their best girl.

>be me, cosplaying Fruits Maki that I made myself
>going to LL meet at a con
>go to meetup spot, there's a few people there waiting on others to show up
>one is a Maki in a school uniform
>she sees me
>"Shit.. I saw you earlier and told my friends I was going to kick your ass, but now you're here to kick mine ;_;"
>we had a good laugh about it

>>
Anyway...how long do you think we'll have to wait for the Halloween Aqours sets? Everyone's going to be clawing for Kanan and Dia in the set.

>>
>>9310548

>>
>>9310409

>>
>>9310409
Either that, or a placeholder price to let people know what's coming before they're ready to start taking orders.
>>
>>9300908

I know most LL fans are casual and think it started with the animu and game, but it was a thing long before, and has been just as fanservicey as Aqours. Anons have already posted some good card examples and art, but there's lot more (PVs for example).

Also the idea of idols are generally fanservicey, they're basically made to please forever alone waifu fags. They're all eye candy, and if you think otherwise you're delusional.

I love idols and Idol culture, but I'm tired of seeing casuals come in and get huffy about fanservice in this genre.
>>
>>9311001
If you read all that I've put, you can see I say I KNOW Muse has cards that are fanservicy.

My comment was purely on the fact the top is unzipped, she is PULLING it open, and her tits are pushed out. She is winking as well, dripping wet.

I should have said, "I don't remember Muse cards being so overtly sexualised".

I know idols are fanservicey, but I'm used to them coupling the fanservicey stuff with the character looking innocent, or it more playful. Like the negligee Nozomi/Nico. Yeah the outfits are sexy (Nozomi in particular), but the pose is not.

That exact pose and outfit Kanan is doing would not look out of place in Playboy, is all I'm saying.
>>
>>9311019
I think the problem is Kanan ended up being the most bland of all the Sunshine girls so they might be trying to up her appeal by making her the tit girl.
>>
>>9311031

She can take her place next to Nozomi, who had a lot of personality and good points and yet ends up being squeezed into outfits like a sausage with her tits bulging out on the other end.
>>
>>9311040
I was really excited for Nozomi, as I love her character, but her outfits are awful

I'm going to be cosplaying pic related at Katsucon. I have yet to cut the bangs (my razor comb is still in the mail) and wondered if anyone had some tips for Umi's bangs. (I've watched tutorials and plan to measure out the right length with bobby pins.) I was just curious if anyone here had done it before.

I don't see much about Ensemble Stars in the archives, but I also plan on cosplaying third year Valkyrie Nazuna from the Starfes event.

>>
>>9318767
High quality materials. Shiny, but not cheap.
I mean, this applies to basically every cosplay, but it's super important here because the costumes were made to shine under stage lights and it's all too easy to buy some cheap-ass shiny fabric, which will just look amateur.

I meant shape, I should have specified. I'm using Casa satin. I'm stuck between a gathered 2xcircle skirt or a rectangle skirt.

It feels just okay. For the most part, many of these seasonal idol shows feel kind of loosely put together. Idol shows feel a little like harem or SOLs right now: slap as many tropes into the cast for waifu points as you can.

Are there any good Yume no tobira cosplays to buy? I was looking for some on Taobao, but this doesn't look appealing to me.

https://world.taobao.com/item/45868616714.htm
>>
>>9329299

Honestly? No. I've bought one before and I'm a stickler for accuracy but they never get the gradient colour or opacity right so I've just bought the fabric and plan to make my own.
>>
>>9329299
Search so much and eventually gave up and started making my one. They always mess up something, fabric color, quality, weird ruffles, weird transparent part but I think what annoys me most is how large most stores make the choker, it looks so bad imo.
>>
>>9329299
I've seen a few good ones, but it depends on what qualities you're looking for (satin vs. matte dress, colors, etc.). In general they can never get all 9 girls right, someone's always got the awful gradient or wrong colors.
Which is funny because it's one of the simplest live outfits that they wear.
>>
Thinking of cosplaying from the Im@s Cinderella Girls series and want to start more simply. I'm thinking of buying off Taobao + modification, but I'm not sure about quality and whether the price is good. Third issue is that I have dark skin which is fine for two idols (Natalia, Layla) but they aren't well known compared to the main idols. What do?
>>
>>9329299

Thanks for the advice. My favourite is Anzu so I think it'd be nice to cosplay her and carry my ita bag around too. There's her usual daily wear, which is usually cosplayed but there's also her outfit from the Candy Island sub unit, which isn't that complicated detailing wise. Any general advice on constructing outfits for idol costumes would be really helpful.
>>
>>9330752
Idol outfits are the only kind of cosplay whre I think it is totally fine to just decorate the shit out of them with glitter! Glitter everything plz
>>
>>9330752
If you have little experience sewing, use patterns. That Anza deffo have patterns you can use from normal magazines.

Also, don't use cheap materials. If you need satin, go duchess.

You also need to plan if you're dancing in it. You'll need give in areas (top, arm bands, waist band and leg bits) that you wouldn't normally need if just normal wear.

With that one, you want a light material for the top, a heavy for the mid bit and a medium for the shorts.

For the socks... Lycra/Spandex. If you can't buy them. I'd personally sew all socks to my tights because they always fall
>>
>>9329299
Every time I've seen one that I was really impressed with, the cosplayer has made it themselves. All the ones on taobao just look off.

>>

>>
>>9331535
I think the sleeves are part of the bodice (it goes over the stripes on the bodice too, looks semi transparent), then it the over skirt bit is attached at the waist.

I think it's a dress, rather than separate pieces, basically.

Just in case I was unclear here >>9331587

I drew a (extremely quick) sketch to explain
1. Is white
2. Is the pink layer
3. Is the stripe.

Basically, 3. is used for the dress throughout, except for the bust and sleeves. 2 is translucent, and it goes over the striped bodice but also turns into sleeves. At the waist, there is a thin brown band they goes over both 2 + 3 - after that band, 2 is loose from 3.

Does that make sense?
