I have this face shape looking through her pictures. I'm perfectly comfortable with videos, but photographs prove a problem. The angles generally used in a lot of photos make this face shape look like a space alien, and not in a cute way. It looks best taken from 3/4th or shot from below. She doesn't know how to do makeup, so her face looks flat, her eye makeup sucks and just accentuates how small/monolid her eyes are, her nose is super upturned and wide, and her teeth are kind of horsey/large. It's just not a good combination, and makes her look punchable. Truth is girls come in all shapes and sizes including faces, and many variations of a beautiful face exist. A similar thing can happen when girls with smaller features are made fun of as 'pig nosed' or 'flat faced'. It's a girl with opposite features bashing on them because of their own lack of confidence. Less common, but it does happen.

People don't like anything that threatens their idea of what beauty is, especially if it's the only thing they find that makes them pretty in their eyes.

Also, the standard here is pretty strict. A girl with angular features will be called manfaced, told to not wear cutesy fashions or cosplay cute characters. Most people here favor small,cute and childlike features. So it's easy to feel ugly here while receiving positive attention outside here.

I wear pastel vomit sweet lolita and fairy kei, don't cosplay. Regular people call me cute,adorable, say I look like a doll and are very positive. I have angular features though, here I would be ripped to shreds.

It's better to have a broad pool of people outside your friend group and hear what they say. Hear what both men and women say, and sometimes even younger or older people who know what cosplay is. If a guy says you look hot only looking at your tits, but a girl says maybe work on your makeup but you're cute, value the girls opinion more because it has better constructive criticism.

I know it's hard to believe but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People have nothing to gain by going up to someone and telling them they are cute or whatever. They don't have to say anything at all. If people were just doing it to be polite, we would be doing it all the time. People who do it usually mean it. You'd be amazed at how much better you can look in photos if you just learn what looks best. You can't do anything with how your face looks irl, but you can work with getting better photos.

Contouring can do wonders as well! I never really thought it could help much but once I learned how to contour my nose correctly (I've always been self conscious about my nose) I noticed a major improvement in my photos and videos :)

I think what's honestly important is finding makeup styles that suit your face. I didn't realize I had slightly hooded eyes until just recently, and once I realized that and started doing makeup that was flattering for hooded eyes I noticed a HUGE difference.

I've noticed it's best that if I do any sort of top liner to keep it super thin. If you go too thick with it you can just totally hide what little bit of eyelid you see. The falsies I've noticed works best are those "dolly" type ones (pic related) that aren't as full because fuller lashes cast more of a shadow over your eyelid which also covers the little bit of eyelid that shows. This is just what I've learned from a bit of YouTube and forum browsing!
