Haven't seen one in a while and the catalog is empty.

Mostly I have a question but figured why not make a thread everyone can use.

> Fur suit or mascot related questions and discussions.

A friend needs clippers to trim the fur for his first suit. We've tried several pairs now to no use. Does anybody know of a set that works well?

Go with these; they are the best price for quality value. There are better ones out there, but you'll pay heavily.

Also I agree with you, but it's tacky to call someone out like that.

I wouldn't normally have an issue with most fursuits as long as there was some variety amoungst them. Like the japanese kemono stuff I find adorable and the more realistic looking ones interesting. It's just everytime I see the western cartoony mascot style fursuits, I just feel unclean looking at them.

I know that western furry costumes tend to have certain open eye and mouth areas where the wearer can look and breathe through but how tf do the Japs do it because their fursuit heads tend to be smaller, less open space or just a straight up closed mouth. It looks super hot and uncomfortable to wear
>>
I'm not remotely into furry stuff, but I gotta say, some of these suits are really impressive from a technical standpoint. It's got to be challenging to make this stuff from scratch and not have it look totally nightmarish. The realistic ones like >>9270213
are my favorite, very fairytale-esque. I hope the thread doesn't devolve into arguing, since I'm genuinely interested in seeing the kind of work that goes into these things.
>>
>>9270846
99.9% of japanese fursuits have fans or some sort of vent system.

Also I've been a furry for about 13 years now and have owned several fursuits of both east and west variety. I know what goes into making them (yet still haven't had the opportunity to try making my own), wearing them, etc so if anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to help.
This does include recommending makers or helping recognize a maker. I know most of their styles now.
>>
>>9270860
Goddamn Japs and their technology. I know some American fursuiters have fans in the muzzle area but most people just go with ice pack and work-out clothes to keep cool right? And thanks for the answers, I'm just a non-furry who thinks the furry aesthetic is cute
>>
>tfw even a 13 year old can make a partial better than you can

I'm struggling even on paws, much less a head.
>>
>>9270845
Not that anon but that's by Lemonbrat. They semi-recently got into the fursuit business.
>>
>>9270871
Ice packs are not as common but yeah a lot of wearers recommend under armor and other clothing that can wick sweat.

Unrelated, have some fun facts: Only about 20-25% of furries actually own fursuits. It's just the most common stereotype of furries unsurprisingly.
Most popular fursuit makers (and even wearers) tend to be females. Which is funny considering the 80/20 male to female ratio of the community.
Oh, and unfortunately for anyone interested in the "kemono"/japanese fursuits, you'll either have to make one yourself or find one of few makers from japan (or in the US who attempt to mimic the style) who are willing to work internationally as K-Line, which is the big japanese company and made this cutie >>9270151 is no longer making suits and said when they do open back up, it's Japan-only

Atelier Amanojaku (JP) and KemoSuki are some of the ones I know who still do international.

Sorry about the sperging, I just like to help.
>>
>>9270878
>Most popular fursuit makers (and even wearers) tend to be females. Which is funny considering the 80/20 male to female ratio of the community.

This is why I guess I have always been confused. Everyone always says there are so many more male furries, but I just don't see it on my side. I sell furry tails for a living so I talk to and interact with other furry crafters and fursuiters and I've only met maybe one or two males while I have met dozen of female furries.
>>
I'm not a furry, but I'm really interested in the craftsmanship. I've made hooved shoes and the like before for faun costumes for clients, so I've got a little bit of experience laying fake fur an sewing it, and making a full fursuit seems like it'd be a fun challenge. I don't have a fursona or anything, and I don't really care for the cartoony style of most western suits, but I'm sure I'll find something I want to make one day.
>>
>>9270845
It's not mine. It's the only photo of a fursuit I have saved because it was pretty cute.
>>
>>9270886
Yeah, a lot of the fursuit/parts crafters are usually females, which is something I learned from personal experience and while looking at crafters. I've never known why either.
>>

>>

>>
>>9270899
It's the same reason there are more female than male cosplayers. There are lots of men who see crafting as feminine, and either believe they just dont have the same skills or refuse to because it is "feminine."
>>
>>9271081
It's unfortunate because not only is their stuff selling well (which good on them but kinda sucks for the customers), it's got that issue of sameface, their bodysuits suck, and any predesigns they sell are fucking nightmares. Give me a sec, I'll find an example

It's the most catching thing of the group y'know? Considering how public it is with conventions and outings. So of course that's gonna be the thing talked about besides other obvious shit. Ex: cringe comps. It's almost all fursuit stuff.

Personally I think the drama is the more fun stuff but whatevs. It just comes down to not being an idiot and understanding that it is in fact a weird hobby, not a lifestyle; A fursuit doesn't help that opinion.
Something something I hate lifestylers, something something fursecution
>>
>>9270860
Suggestions or resources for making a fursuit where I see through the neck? I was looking at beastcub's horse suits (which looks awesome, but I've hear questionable things on her technique) and really liked the proportions you get. I'm not making a horse, but a sort of supernatural hound creature (sounds terrible, but it's a good concept, I'm just not finished with developing it), and I like the height you get with having the head above your actual face. Just not sure what's a safe way to mount it or how to best hide the size of my head into the neck or make sure the shoulders don't look way tiny.
>>
>>9271153
If my memory isn't as awful as I think it is, I believe that Beastcub builds hers in a way that the neck and head are on top of the helmet and you see through the collar/scarf/whatever see through item you choose.
I do recommend seeking out someone called SpiritPanda (i think) on FA. They made a really good charizard X suit they wore at Youmacon this year where they saw out of the neck. I never learned how they did it.

I know drama llama (can't remember who owns the suit) also has a weird neck system.
I can look into it more if you want. I never really researched quadsuits as much, I'm sorry!
>>
How do people manage to breath and see in those things ?
>>
>>9271164
It's not that bad honestly!
Buckram is the most common material for eyes used. Blindspots due to head construction are common and you'll more than likely favor one eye to see out of. Seeing out of the mouth helps but it's only recommended if you really don't care about "ruining the magic".

Ventilation is based on how open the mouth is and how many vent ports you make. These can be from the ears and even the nose depending on construction. The eyes' material help with ventilation too.
Worst comes to worst, installing a fan in the nose/head doesn't hurt.
Hope this all makes sense!

I think most automatically assume the person underneath a fursuit is female. I also wonder if females are less likely to associate their real identity with the furry fandom. I use to play Furcadia a long time ago and use to enjoy drawing the art. It was never anything I 'advertised'. I know a lot of female artists and fursuiters don't really draw attention to their real identity. (Or even that they are female. Often it's only mentioned online in afterthought if at all.)

There are a lot of men who claim feminine identities as well which confuses people.

Most japanese fursuits don't have any fans at all, at least the ones by K-Line and Atelier Amanojaku, the former even states on their japanese homepage that they are only for shorttime wear and photography purposes, not running around for hours at a con because the eyes start to get foggy quite soon.

Hey thanks for the heads-up, I don't mind and will look into it!

>>9271722
Dude no worries, I'm like that too lol most furries don't care, while non-furries are quick to push the "furry" label on you, actual furries don't mind people taking an interest in the community/aesthetic (unless it's misconceptions and all that fun stuff.)
>>
>>9271722
>>9271773
No prob!

Also I can back this up. Furry is one of those things where it's like "if you want to be, then you are." It's a label and you don't need to be a part of the community (or any community) to enjoy an aspect. That'd be like saying every person who liked a movie featuring anthropomorphic animals is a furry.

If you're genuinely interested in the costume aspect, then that's it. You can keep it at that. I know a lot of non-furries who have suits and i know a lot furries who hate fursuits. Honestly I think it's an interesting experience that isn't for everyone. You have to take into consideration your own health in limitations.

Just have fun in the end if you do! And if you ever need help or advice, I can always make a throwaway email. I'm barely in the community anymore as is. Never been to a furry con in my life, no meetups. Just kinda a minimal online presence lol. So helping out would be fun
>>
Gosh, this is all really neat. I wanna ask you guys a question though - do you find it particularly difficult to find friends who aren't total fucking weirdos? Like, folks who aren't diaperfags or Pamperchu-levels of batshit, or are those types rare?

Not really. I have a lot of close friends through the fandom who other than the fandom are completely normcore.
I think it mostly depends on the setting/event.
>>
>>9271888
Check the fursuiting livejournal. There's also some telegram groups you can probably find through Google.
>>
>>9271886
Tbh? Weirdos in the fandom online usually out themselves from the beginning so they're easy to avoid. IRL it's a little harder. Just pay attention to their badges if they have one. Most furries don't really out themselves irl unless you're at a con or they just don't care about public opinion.
Most furries I know either joined the community because of me or I didn't know they were furries until way down the line

>>9271888
I included the throwaway email. I'll send you a list of tutorials, videos, etc. Just because I don't wanna make a giant post. Anyone else can message this too.
>>
>>9271886
idk, and this is coming from a guy, most male furries really are cringey. Female furries aren't so much, though, the two "otherkin" furries I have met are women. I think male furries are weird on the outside and female furries are weird on the inside? Idk, I hate to stereotype but that has been my experience.

Most furries are amazing people, some can just be a little weird once you get to know them a little more, but that can probably be said about many people.

Not really any more weird/crazy than your standard anime fans honestly.

It's a shame y'all can't post in the /cgl/ friend finder thread and make a Discord or something. I'd love to have regular people to talk about fur stuff with but I feel like if you mention it people automatically assume you're into some vore scat furry shit like >>9271886 anon said. I'd love to meet people like >>9271893 >>9271902 >>9271913 in real life but it's hard to even mention it. It's not the judging from others I worry about but the misunderstanding that can very easily make you stuck in a group of xD x3 kind of furries and make it difficult to impossible to find "normal" people to just enjoy aspects of the community with (ex. fursuiting, art, etc.)

Those are the easiest ways to meet other furries. I showed up to a con by myself in 2013 and have built a network of friends from that.

This seems like kind of a dumb post considering how expensive fursuiting is already, but has anyone used taobao to get foam and suffered through the shipping costs?

I was thinking about trying it considering the nearest JoAnns is in the next state over.

Don't, they will use a shitton of wrapping so it doesn't get damaged while delivery so it is cheaper to get it from a local homeimprovement store.

19, f

I don't consider myself a furry per se but I will occasionally draw anthros along with humans. I've played around with the idea of making a fursuit since I've been doing some costuming and I make stuffed animals it would be a perfect mix of the two.

I'm not a fan of some of the Japanese suits though; while they are cute like the rabbit one I see posted a lot ones like the pink one in >>9270436 have weirdly flat faces I don't like at all.

Basically me except I'm 25.

It's never been sexual for me, I just grew up around a lot of cartoons and Disney and have always enjoyed anthro animals. I have a Furry identity separate from my normal one that I use for business to help generate plush commissions and stuff from the community but I don't like to label myself as a 'Furry'. I am really interested in the suits though both because I like the crafting aspect of it and I always thought it would be fun to be a mascot for a day. I'm not dropping thousands of dollars for one though, I would probably wear it three times in my life.
>>
Can we please talk about how shitty Furry Amino is? Having never used the Amino app before and after seeing some older furry youtube personalities advertising it I thought it would be a lot different, but it's all 12 year olds constantly talking about how they want to commit suicide and the art theft is somehow even worse than any other social media platform. I'm trying to use it to sell some stuff like plush, art, fabric leftovers, but the chat system is so fucked up and no one buys a damn thing because everyone is under 15. I feel like a complete outsider and kind of a creep for being in my mid twenties and using it.

Yes, I gave her a polite response and directed her to find tutorials on deviant art. I feel like you have to be sugary sweet there because all the kids are so sensitive, and I'm not joking when I say strangers have started messaging me to chat and then freaked out when I didn't respond to their sixteen messages immediately or randomly began telling me how they're depressed/suicidal. So fucking many of them are suicidal I don't know what is up with that. I think a lot of it is attention seeking, because it'll be something like "my roleplay friends stopped talking to me and my parents don't understand about me being a furry i just want to kill myself!" which is horrible because then it lessens how seriously people take actual depression and mental illnesses. I want to slap all of them.

Anyone else here that isn't quite sure if they're getting into furry territory or not?

I love making OCs to cosplay that have animal characteristics like the last one I did was a fox demon with the teeth, nails, ears, fur shawl, but I didn't get around to the multi-tails but I want to in the future.
I've been making these kinds of characters since I was a teen and don't see anything really furry about it despite it you know, animal physical traits. I've never actually made a fursona or anthro character or anything mostly because of the stigma of being a furry (sorry! we've just got some weird furries here in my comm and I've had bad experiences with a few) and frankly, I'm scared of fursuits of all kinds because said comm members here have a high level of innapropriate behavior while in fursuits like bringing one to a meet I hosted at an amusement park when I specifically told them not to (because he's twice my age and knows more than I do) and he almost got arrested and got our group thrown out, then another girl one year at our local con was sexually harassed by another female fursuiter who was later removed from the con for it, and I had one fursuitter grab my purse the other year and squeak repeatedly at me yanking on it while I mentally shut down because of my mild-fear of fursuits and I ended up yelling at them just to get them to go away.. which could've cost me my position as a volunteer at the time because I was working.

Sorry for blogpost but I'm pretty conflicted because I do like the look of these Japanese fursuits and I do make some almost furry characters to cosplay a lot but I'm not sure if that would make me a very low-key furry and I'm not sure I could even actually consider myself one given my fursuit-phobia. Seriously, why do none of the fursuiters talk? Them gesturing and squeaking at me just freaks me out and I usually hide behind friends or just bolt for it to get away and I'm in my mid-20's.
>>
>>9274238
Damn, wish I had known about that at the time of ordering even if my kigus ended up nicely done
>>
>>9274265
I think with Limebarb/Lemonbrat it's dependent on what you're getting as to the service you get. Like my friend commissioned them for a cosplay gown and it took almost a year and cost her hundreds of dollars to get it done and it wasn't even that great. A lot of Jrock cosplayers used to use them since it was hard to find Visual Kei commissioners and if I remember right, Limebarb/Lemonbrat had a tendency to take on more than they could handle which screwed them over and they never learned from it.
>>
>>9274243
A) You can enjoy aspects of the furry fandom without being a furry. Tons of people already do that around the world. That's like saying any kid who likes cartoons with talking animals is a furry; fuck if they even know what that is. You ain't a furry unless you say you are one. And even if you decide to be one, you have to remember it's a weird hobby. People are gonna think it's goofy and just like any fandom the dark side of it isn't just going to go away, but furry isn't as bad as it used to be irl. Online is what you should worry about.

B) Not all furries do the miming, but it's a preference. The reason why most don't talk is honestly in respect of mascoting in general. It's a form of acting and showing your emotions. Actions speak louder than words after all.
Plus, it's for the kids. It's more likely you'll have a kid freak out if a giant animal just started talking to them. I know this from experience.
>>
>>9274243
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq6WR76et2U

Not that anon, but everytime I see a fursuit thread I feel so conflicted.
I definitely don't like 90's cartoon aesthetic fursuits, but the ones on this thread are really really cute and I had always wanted to make a realistic or really cute head for myself. I have this weird fantasy that whenever I get famous (I draw), I will use a mascot head for interviews so people don't actually see my face, but my artwork. Plus, I'm a lolita, and there's this innocent world add from ages ago that uses rabbit heads, and I've been fascinated with it ever since, but wouldn't really mix lolita with furries, even if they look cute.
There's also some furry art that I really really like (pic related), but I like it for the art, not because it represents something from the furry fandom. The last thing I want to say, is that I have tried to apply to mascot jobs, as I find acting as one very endearing and a cool form of self expression.

am I a furry? I hate furries but I feel so conflicted. Furries have always been disgusting fetish things for me but then again I have no problem with pet playing. Kill me before I become one.
>>
>>9274355
Please refer to the "if you want to be a furry then you are one. Taking interest in aspects of the fandom doesn't make you one." thing.
It isn't a big fucking deal. Whether you are one or not one is entirely up to you.
>>
>>9274310
>It's more likely you'll have a kid freak out if a giant animal just started talking to them
And I guess that's where I was the weird kid because I was always freaked out when they didn't talk and still am. I don't like not knowing who's in the suit.

Thanks for entertaining my craziness though because I'm just sitting here like some of it is cute and I can appreciate furry art and how hard it is to construct a suit but.. they just freak me out in person and I'll just stick to my little corner of tossing animal ears onto OCs. Closest I ever got was with a bat character that I still love to death.

>>9274328
Thanks for the link!
>>
>>9274366
No prob on both! And it's alright, fursuits and mascots in general isn't for everyone. I understand the fear completely and no one is gonna judge you for that, ever. Anonymity irl is a lot scarier than online. If you ever feel uncomfortable though, please tell the person! Most fursuiters do it for the entertainment of the public too and if someone is scared, they'll normally feel bad. I talk in my suit and there's still times where I'll take off the mask if it ever gets that bad.
I had a time where my baby cousin used to be terrified of my first fursuit, but after he found out it was me, he felt so much safer and all the time when he'd come over with his family he'd always want me to get it out.
>>
>>9271602
They haven't scammed anyone anymore in 4 years, so much for that.
>>
>>9274373
Yeah, one of my friends is a furry and he knows if he sees me at a local con to let me know it's him and I'll have no problems after that. Otherwise I just freeze like a deer in headlights and freak out if they try to touch me though that rarely happens aside from the purse grabbing incident but I have a feeling it was some barely legal teen inside that suit who didn't understand personal boundaries.
Thanks for being so chill though, it's made me feel a lot better. I think next time I go to con I'll try to not avoid fursuiters and see if I can at least manage my responses. It sucks to go to a con with such a large fursuit population when I have to avoid them and miss out on chunks of stuff because of it.

And here I was thinking it was common knowledge as FZSW coined "the" japanese style. Nobody knows what exactly happend but having experienced myself, she probably got touched in improper places what a lot of people do with "hurr durr you sure are a greasy neckbeard under that suit" as reason.

It was the last straw that made her quit the fandom, before that she had issues with western makers making 1:1 design clones and recolors of Laki and Loki (pic related).

and so on

Japanese artists seem to be more sensitive to getting their characters cloned, I meean, all the clones of Radywolf's Rufen was the reason why K-Line stopped commissions (and a long depressing text on FA before she deleted her account).
>>
>>9275402
Things like this are what make me hesitant to try making my own character and suit. I have a feeling everything's been done and my worry is that when I make something I visually enjoy it'll turn out to be really similar to something already existing and popular enough that people will cry copycat.
>>
>>9275410
You'll be fine. If you're that afraid of the design being too similar, run it by some people who can give suggestions.
It's also the furry fandom. Originality is non-existent as is. Anyone crying about "muh oc" is usually someone who knows that their pure white wolf oc isn't anything special. You have to go out of your way to actually steal any design in the fandom.
>>
>>9275416
*interesting design
Sorry let me fix that.
But seriously, don't worry about it. People only get up in arms if the markings and color scheme get too close to something; or you design a made up species that resembles another.

I did google their name and see a Tumblr pop up with clone suits. It wasn't until then that I remembered that sort of thing is majorly discouraged in fursuiting. It's a shame though because I love how adorable FZSW's red suit is, even the hair is cute.

Damn degenerates and their yiffing. At least she didn't experience Rainfurrest.

D-do I have to have tons of markings and tribal tattoos for my character to be original?
>>
>>9275724
Obviously not, it's only that pople would think "oh, another generic x".
>>
>>9275724
No and if you do, consider the fact that if you want a commission of it (art, fursuit, etc.) it might cost you more depending on the artist/crafter.
>>
>>9275741

I hate the overuse of markings, really

the only thing that could be considered tacky on my character is the constant Hawaiian shirt.
>>
>>9274355
I didn't like furried much either (still kinda don't) until two of my friends started getting into it, one being my best friend, so now I semi-tolerate it. I appreciate the craftsmanship and I love the more realistic looking fursuit heads but furries really creepy me out

I think that the people trying to sell commissions for less than $1 are worse than the people begging for free art.
Like, there's no way I can still even a $5 commission when the public chats are stuffed with threads advertising 60, 40, and even 10 cent drawings. Even if they're the shittiest drawings on the planet. Also most of these people don't have PayPal so what are they going to do, mail a dime?

I tried to be nice once and told a girl looking for art who only wanted to pay $0.50 that I could draw her character, but it would be a rough pencil sketch and she's like "oh....hmmm... I'll think about it."

Bitch I'm not waiting for you to decide over 50 cents this is me being charitable as fuck.

>>

I prefer these kids to people that ask for really gross stuff and describe every little detail in the first message they send you.

>my gallery is full of lewd cute girls, no fetish stuff, super vanilla
>one guy asking for commission
>two characters having sex, but one of them was killed by the other. All that in a disturbing setting
>he described in full detail how the character was killed, how the dead body looked and how much the other character enjoyed it. Not to mention the setting that was pretty much a torture room
>friendly decline commission
>mfw I felt so sick after reading that I didn't eat that day

As I started furry art I was fully aware of all that sick fetish stuff and that I might encounter it but I guess there are things you can't prepare for

New England. I've heard people mention Jo-Ann's but I've never been to a store of their's that didn't only have that shitty, rough black fur.

My last questions are, what are some good airbrushes? Do they tend to be universal? I've never used one before and always put off buying one. Can/should I just water down acrylics?
I like sculpting and would like to get back into making dolls/stuffed animals and whew boy gradients without airbrushing is not great.

Now tools I don't know too much about, so I'd look it up or ask a maker. They sometimes have their tool list on their pages

Fabric.com 100% They almost always give you more fabric than you actually order, sometimes just a few inches, but other times an entire half yard extra. idk if the employees don't know how to measure fabric or what, but its great. They also are SUPER quick. Even with their free shipping, I have gotten my fabric in less than 24 hours after ordering a few times.
I buy 99% of my fur from there. 1% from JoAnns.

JoAnns *sometimes* has ok fabric. Its worth checking every once and a while if there is one nearby. Their fur is almost never soft, but its normally cheap and they do sometimes have unique fur. Hancock's actually had some fur I liked, but they closed so..

If you want scraps, try etsy, a lot of us sell extra fur scraps for cheap.
>>
>>9284436
Work at Joann, can say that the majority of the fur is just not going to work for suits. There's the occasional good fur, such as a white husky one lately that's $40 a yard. It's super soft and long piled but I've only seen it in white.

I have little experience with making suits yet though, but I'd probably get mine from online sources.

I can draw up a rough picture when I'm home but can explain in more detail for noe. I don't know the exact specifics because I haven't seen the suit in person. But what I can gather is the person enters the back of the suit through a large zipper. They then sit with their legs tucked under their thighs. Their feet sort of extend into the base of the tails. You will more often find these guys sitting but they can get up and walk for short periods. It's basically the equivalent of walking on stilts but on your knees instead.

Help me /cgl/
I hate everything about the furry fandom but I absolutely love being in mascot costumes and I'd love a fursuit like >>9283048.
I'd even be willing to shill a decent amount of money for one, but I don't want to be associated with furries in any way.
I'm so conflicted.
>>
>>9296552
>I hate everything about the furry fandom

What is it about 'em that you hate so much? The western/disneyesque stuff I can see being off putting, especially for suits, (Unfortunately about 80% of what I can find in the US) but the realistic and Japanese stuff is usually fairly aesthetically pleasing. In fact, most "normal" people don't associate furry with, lets say, clockwork creatures stuff. It comes off as a really good creature suit.
>>
>>9296584
I hate the fandom. I have literally never met a single decently behaved furry in my whole life.
I hate how they shoehorn their suits into everything and I hate how they're always playing the victim like they're oppressed or some shit because they can't wear their fursuits everywhere they go.

I don't want to be called a furry, and I don't want to be associated with them.
I just want to wear a cute mascot suit at cons
>>
>>9296703
Then simply don't call yourself a furry or associate with the people? I know that you're complaining about what other people are going to say, but it comes with the territory I'm afraid. I mean, I'm in the same boat as you, I'm not really a furry but I do love being in mascot suits; but people will of course associate you with actual furries. Best you can do is either address that you're not a furry when it comes up, or just ignore the misconceptions and take it as it is.
>>
>>9296703
>>9296552
Seriously and going with anon's statement here >>9296711
, don't associate with them. It's really not that hard and you're just making a big deal out of an issue that'll only be there if you cause it yourself. If you get approached, just tell them to fuck off.

most furries don't even have fursuits in the first place. A majority of the fandom are younger folk so affording a giant piece of art isn't easy for them. I also know A LOT of furries who hate fursuits.

If you just group them all up, then you're gonna have a bad time. It's like any community honestly; cosplay included.
>>

>I hate how they shoehorn their suits into everything and I hate how they're always playing the victim like they're oppressed or some shit because they can't wear their fursuits everywhere they go.

I'm so sorry for the terrible experience. Every single furry I have met have been the kindest people I have met. I specifically look for furries at cons simply because I know they're going to be nice to talk to.

But yea, you don't have to call yourself a furry. I sell furry stuff for a living, but don't consider myself a furry.

The furries I've met at cons via being friends of friends have been pretty alright people. Didn't engage with them in anything more than casual conversation over drinks but they were easy to get on with. They were able to give me helpful advice regarding a piece of cosplay I was working on and one let me try on their head because I was curious about how much visibility they had out of them.

Now I'm trying to get one of my own made in the new year and I wouldn't consider myself a furry as I don't partake in the community at all. I just want a cute animal costume to wear at cons.

This. This is me. I don't want to roleplay. I don't think the character is an extension of myself. I don't want to be a 'furry' but I think the suiting looks cute and fun as fuck. Every furry I meet who I try to explain this to thinks I'm uncomfortable with myself and should embrace my furry side or whatever, like it's a sexual identity and not just a hobby, and I just want to run around like a cute mascot.

Actual furry here, and I totally understand what you mean, I don't think you have to be into the other stuff to enjoy the cute suits. People like animals in other ways, and suiting is fun (although I NEVER mix suiting with sex, not my thing, I wanna keep something this expensive clean!) So you do you. There are plenty of us who will be fine and respect that. It is just unfortunate that the loud, obnoxious ones set the image. Go have fun!

Thank you anon! I'm comfortable with the idea of suiting without having to be a furry and it's nice to hear that there are others in the fandom who will understand that and not try to push me to 'step out of the closet' when I'm not hiding any deeper desires. Also yeah, I'm not having sex in something I spent several thousand dollars and/or several thousand hours on. No shame to the people who do that kind of thing in them but it's not my thing either.
