So what are you wearing for halloween? I still haven't actually got my coord sorted yet, I know I'll be wearing nameless poem (like everyone else) but I don't have any headwear to go with it. My wardrobe is primarily classic so that's kind of annoying.
>>
I really want to like Haenuli's newest , but the fabric and arrangement of the cut is really unflattering for the print. It's a real shame because I love that kind of dark library and the purple tones.

Any good Halloween lolita coord inspo? The Halloween thread is basically Cosplay General #2

What necklace to wear with this type of neckline?
>>
>>9236397
I wouldn't. Maybe a brooch though.
>>
>>9236397
Either a simple choker or a long necklace that goes beyond the neckline of the dress. I find that they look best without necklaces though.
>>
>>9236397
None.
>>
>>9236397
no necklace, but as another anon said a brooch or a clip-on bow or something to the bodice of the dress because it looks a little naked

Since the popups are only an issue on our phones. I googled it but couldn't figure it. So I was hoping that kind anon could help me out.

come on gulls, it shouldn't have gotten this far. post halloween shit.

in response to OP, i know i'm going to be wearing Dolly Dot in pink. i have a black witch hat that i'm going to spruce up with some matching pink ribbons and other doodads. decking out a little broom might be fun as well. Dolly Dot obviously isn't spooky by itself but pink x black is too perfect for halloween. what are other gulls doing?
>>
>>9236555
Do you actually have ribbons to match the kind of pink it is? If you do I think it would be cute.
>>
>>9236557
i do! i prepared all of the materials before and just have to put it together. i'm really picky about matching pinks in my own coordinates.

without the straps, opt for a choker or a shorter necklace that falls only on the bare skin before the neckline hits

i think it will be most flattering this way. a long necklace will probably not be very befitting. if that answers your question?

Are bag replicas really frowned upon? Like violin and star shaped bags?
>>
>>9236621
I've found if it's a fairy unique design of a bag like the bat it's frowned upon by most, and then any other replica will always have a group of people disapproving.
>>
>>9236621
if it's just a bag shaped like a star no one will give a fuck
if it has some sort of brand markings or very specific design features of a certain bag, people do mind

then again my cheap ass is probably getting a design replica with a fake brand name on it soon so I can let you know I guess
>>
>>9236621
I dont really mind.
I'm not against buying the brand bag by any means. But the one thing that drives me crazy is how grubby bags get inevitably, so I dont want to be spending $100 on a bag to go into the trash eventually.

I havent personally had this happen to any of my lolita bags since I dont wear them often enough but I see it all the time on second hand auction bags. Shit triggers me, pic related
>>
>>9236746
ick. Yeah, I feel you. 3 of my bags are replicas and 2 are brand, all were bought brand new. I don't really like buying second hand shoes, socks, or bags. Like you I'm not opposed to replicas or brand. If I have the money and a brand bag that I like is in stock I'll probably order it. I'm pretty sure a couple of my socks/tights are replicas, and I know at least one pair of my shoes is a replica.

>>9236571
First Daily Dot, now HONY. She really is taking to any platform she can, isn't she?

I liked this. However, my only problem is that HONY needs to have actual people who live in New York. She is from ATL, not NYC.

>>9236571
There are so many beautiful lolitas in NYC. You can spot one on any given weekend. But no. She had to come from her state and get even more famewhory. And misrepresent the fashion.
>>
I just bought an OP that looked like it would fit from the measurements but is just a bit too small in the rib cage, of all places. The last inch or so of the side zipper refuses to zip. Any gulls have ideas on how to alter the dress to fit, or coord so it isn't noticeable?
>>
>>9236621
Yes.
>>
>>9236918
hold your breath and pray while trying to zip it

that's one of the most impossible places to alter and you should probably just find an overdress, a corset or a belt of some sort to cover it up

>>
>>9236850
Same Pham. There are a lot of SJW types on my friend's list and so naturally they're also putting asspat comments in her post.

I couldn't bring myself to comment since being on CGL made me all too aware of this person's shortcomings personality wise.

I'd like to be happy for ANB because I can only imagine the struggles of being a trans person, let alone an aging lolita holding onto sweet styles , but like the other anon pointed out, she comes off as a tad thirsty for the approval of the lolita community - from the "book" on hosting lolita meets and involvement of Frill to this recent HONY post. Hell, that iirc, I remember participating in a holiday card exchange on RC and receiving a glossy postcard with her full name and photoshoot on it. It was pretty Ott considering that everyone else made or bought cards.

Idk if all of this is because she's trying to make up for loss confidence from being an older trans woman or what. I just wish HONY chose a New Yorker, not a tourist.

Most lolitas in NYC are not interested in publicity. Some of them have been harassed by scouts and to be presented in documentaries about being a 'living doll'. Others have to juggle their professional lives and want to keep their hobby and work separate.

Reposting form the petti thread:

>What are your opinions on hoop skirts?
Do they last longer than petticoats or do they bend out of shape easily? How hard are they to sit down with?
Most of the time I have to wear more than one petticoat to get the desired shape for the dress and I figured that a hoop skirt + one petti to hide the hoops would be easier to wear.

>>
>>9237596
I made my own with steel boning and it provides awesome poof and hasn't ever bent out of shape. It's easy to sit, but I've found I have to readjust when getting up as the hoops can catch on your petti or your petti slides between the hoops near the bottom. But it actually is a million times more comfortable.

Any good examples of flower crowns being used in lolita?
>>
>>9238064
>tfw unironically love flower crowns
>>
>>9237596
I find them really annoying because I have to drive most places, I hate wearing more than just the one petti, and I'm also quite clumsy at times. Sitting in a car is tricky in a hoop. Also if I brush past stuff with just my petti chances are I can save the situation but if it hits the hoop there's often a bit of rebound and things can go badly. I use the melikestea poof monster, bought it back in March 2015 and it's still going strong.

>>
>>9238092
She's a narcissist, and that's how narcissists operate. They find people who they think they can use, suck up to them, and use them to promote themselves.

It's not an accident that she keeps getting media attention, or that multiple people I know have mentioned her trying to manipulate her way into staff positions for events and similar things.

And that is after Frill which showed that she doesn't have leadership or organizational skills.

Why do you like her or think she's a good person? Has she complimented you? Told you all the great things she's done for the community? She makes you feel good with compliments and attention, yes? She does this to everyone, and it's not sincere.

And I have flat out heard her lie and take credit for other people's work while trying to charm people into liking her.

And I've seen how she treats people she doesn't think are useful or who have done things that aren't in her favor and it's brutal.

You can defend her if you want to, but I would advise you not to trust her.

Today I feel like I got more of a "idgaf" attitude a lolita should have when it comes to "what will people think?"
Bought a new dress, even my lolita friends find it "eh" or ugly but I really like it and have no regrets. It's stupid but I always worry so much and this time i'm feeling confident.

Is anyone here actually kind of self conscious about what people think sometimes and then feel ridiculous/bad?
>>
>>9238522
Sometimes I feel a bit bad because my style is rather samey but honestly it's just what I like and what makes me happy so I don't really care what others think. It's good that you're doing the same thing, you should dress for yourself, not your friends.
What dress did you get?

BTSSB Bunny Milk and Snow Strawberry JSK in saxon blue.
I like to make very simple/wearable outfits and I'm affraid i'm gonna look boring, or i'm affraid I will look "weak" because I like cute stuff, never find a gf,...but yeah, that's what we should all do, just not caring and dress for ourselves.

I moderate a bunch of lolita groups, but decided to take a break from wearing the fashion for a while for health reasons. I'll still be involved in the community, but should I hand over administrator role of the groups to other people?
>>
>>9239240
Opening them from the previews and announcements would be preferable.
>>
>>9239243
Honestly, I think so. It sounds like you really need to focus on your health, which should take priority over moderating groups. It's commendable and responsible for you to think about handing it over to someone else. Take care of yourself and hope you feel better soon.
>>
>>9239243
I don't really see why, if you're planning to stay involved in the comms and assuming you're not the only active mod or something. it's certainly an option if you think you won't have much time, but I don't think it's such a big deal.
>>
>>9239252
But she announces dresses like. Anywhere from a couple months to a couple weeks in advance, on top of the 2 week long reservation period. And - Haenuli allows payment plans. 50/50 with a month between payments or you can arrange a longer one if you email her and ask. That's more than enough time to get your shit together, considering the major Japanese brands often drop new releases with no or even less notice, and no payment plans.

Speaking of nun lolita, I've made some cutsew print designs, one of which features this theme ("lolier than thou"). Setting up a shop turned out to be way more of a pain in the ass than I expected, so I am presently gauging interest with just a facebook group. I would appreciate if you could check it out and let me know what you think? It's live and taking orders, but I'm not going to invest any more money into it unless I get interest. The theme of the first collection suits cgl pretty well, you'll see what I mean... The link keeps being marked as spam but the page is facebook slash Teegl-351186168606195
The lolita ones are in the photo album called "Mean Girls". Perhaps they are a bit too blatantly bitchy for most lolitas? I don't know, but I would definitely wear them. I also have some more generic designs, you can find them somewhere in the albums.
>>
>>9239573
The art could use some work and refinement but it's pretty cute. What bothers me more are the shirts themselves; if you intend for them to be cutsews and be worn with (casual) lolita, they should at least have puffed sleeves. Plain t-shirts aren't very cute and don't work well with lolita.
>>
>>9239573
>>9239609
This anon. But I'm kinda still interested because I could sew them into an actual cutsew...
>>
>>9239464
I'll have plenty of time but I just feel rude to be a non-lolita in charge of these lolita groups.
>>
>>9239681
well, you're really not a non-lolita, you're just taking a break for health reasons. I would probably be considered a non lolita by most since I've never worn any coords out yet and yet I'm organising a bunch of shit in the fashion and comms

it's a taobao reseller but it's relatively reliable if you're too afraid to order off of taobao itself. the staff is nice and helpful, especially when you put in for custom sizes. haven't done it myself but know some girls who do
>>
>>9239573
I really like the lolier than thou artwork (probs wouldn't buy just because I hate madonna crowns, but I like your artstyle and I'm interested to see more designs). I'm seconding the request for totes, because even with a cute cutsew design, I don't really wear anything casual enough to coord with a cutsew but I am actively searching for loliable totes atm. I don't really like bitchy slogans either.
>>
>>9239906
They have at least 5% off everything every month, basically. I think the Rakuten-specific ones might eb slightly less often.

Firstly, thank you immensely for all of your feedback (and the few likes to the page!!). I was expecting everyone to hate it. There are definitely a lot of areas for improvement but most of them can be fixed with expanded budget...later. To answer your queries:

To print on more lolita-style tees with puffed sleeves, collar etc, I'd have to make a pretty big up-front investment. Again, if this "brand" ends up succeeding then I would definitely like to do that, but right now it's not an option unfortunately.

>>9239977
I tried curving the font and thought it looked better this way, but I'm more of a marketer than an artist (this is a "test" business/learning experience for me, I'd love to collab with actual lolita artists in the future). I will have a look again at the text in Illustrator.

>>9239992
I feel like without the text it's just my shitty art on a t-shirt? I'm no artist...studying marketing actually, haven't drawn since school. This is just the first collection, I have at least 3 others in progress, they won't have any text and the theme isn't bitchy at all. That said, I can customize it for people who don't want the text. Will put a note when the product pages go live.
>>
>>9240097

>>
>>9240100
Thanks so much! You guys are so sweet, I'm actually shocked at the response! The whole business side of this is really stressful, and costs more than I expected. Y'all have boosted my motivation :-D

The dream is to make it a community thing where lolita/j-fashion artists can submit their work and share the profit if they are chosen to print (lol profit! Optimistic much, all of my "projects" are in a negative right now but at least I'm learning a lot). I have seen so many amazing pieces on Tumblr that I would *love* to wear on a cutsew/whatever but it's probably not worth the investment for them to set up all this e-commerce/business shit themselves. Something like the old Bodyline design contests, except without me stealing the ideas afterwards and not paying anyone.

Will keep you updated, I guess. I don't want to be a self-promoting asshole so I will just answer questions here and follow the fb page if you want to :-)

depends on the label. usually they do punk/goth, so their lolita releases work within that zone. but sometimes they can work for sweet. pic related features a dress from Frill.

they do their own thing mostly and seem more oriented to daily/street/concert wear than lolita brands are.
>>
>>9242088
There's nothing wrong with it, the bag itself is quite cute. I just don't see anything in terms of quality or craftmanship that makes it much better than my cheaper taobao bags. When it comes to other brand items, the quality difference is usually quite clear.

Also, designing. I always see people complaining about brand bags and shoes, but I can definitely see yhe difference. The material is always a bit nicer, the difference is bigger with bags in my opinion. Zippers, clips and buckles function better. I have two Loris bags and one DoL and while DoL one is definitely in it's own category of bad the Loris ones are definitely worse quality than brand. For their price they are okay, but they are just so cheap looking I can't even use them and have replaced them with a real deal. Yes, they hold up decently but you can clearly see where the corners were cut. Idk why, but I have always found my brand bags to be fine for their price.

Hopefully this isn't too dumb a question, but how do people keep rectangle headdresses from falling off their heads? I tied mine behind my head rather than under my chin if that matters.

I'm thinking about sewing some alligator clips on a bodyline one I have but I'm not sure I'd want to do that for more expensive ones.
>>
>>9242682
Bobby pins in the center on the back and/or bobby pins where the ribbons start. You can also sew wig clips onto the inside of the headdress if you aren't scared of modifying it.
>>
>>9242662
I disagree. The pleather on the few Baby bags is harder making it more resilient to scratches, while my AP bags will tear if scratched against anything. I prefer both over Loris though, the pleather looks a lot nicer.
>>
>>9242682
If it's a cheap one I just pin it from the very beginning of the ribbons and poke a bobby pin through a lace in the top. Regularly I only have to pin it from the ribbons if they don't slide through the pin.

Question to UK gulls that have used Japonica Market (although not necessarily, it's more a question about shipping options really): I've bought a few things with them and since they're over 6000 yen in total they're saying they can't shipped my order marked down unless I sent it with EMS. I wouldn't normally care that much but I'm worried about extra charges at the border. Has anyone managed to convince them to ship it some other way? I can't really figure out why they don't want to do it - I realise it's because of insurance but that doesn't seem to bother other SS's.
Also, if I do end up having it shipped EMS - how do you end up getting it
through customs? I had an EMS parcel shipped out once, it was market as a a gift below £35 and I still got taxed. That's never happened with any of my airmail/SAL packages so I was wondering if anyone has any tips.

>implying country and maid are dead in Japan

The GLB and similar magazines basically function as a handbook, it's just in Japanese so westerners can't read it.
>>
>>9241708
Oh jesus this looks horrible, like those T-shirt printing shops from the 00s that let you print holiday snaps on a T-shirt.
>>
>>9242848
With how awful the pound is at the moment, the cost of shipping alone is probably enough to get it taxed regardless of shipping method t b h.

The reason parcels from FromJapan and Japonica sometimes get taxed despite being marked as a gift below £35 is because they list the sender as "FromJapan Ltd"/whatever on the label, and the shipping company have the right to ignore the fact you've marked it as a gift when it's obviously from a commercial sender. Commercial stuff has to be below £15 total value to avoid customs, which is basically impossible atm unless you're just buying very small, light accessories.
>>
>>9242888
So they don't have any website's listing the substyles and "rules" at all?
>>
Does anyone know when Triple Fortune stopped making the oldstyle full bonnet and switched the the new half style? The older ones are so much nicer, and I heard that the switch was due to a person getting sick and leaving them, so I'm curious to know if that's true or not.
>>
>>9242345
Most brand accessories are made in China. My Usakumya mini definitely was made in China, lol.
>>9242401

I have a midophi violin bag that I ordered from Clobba years ago as well one of those shaped bags from the place that sells telephone, violin, and accordion shaped bags. Both are super nice.
>>
>>9242848
I've had them mark packages of all sizes as 2000yen 'used clothing', as Japonica has a name of a human not a company, the marking as a gift actually gets it through.
>>
>>9242970
I don't know when, something like 5 years ago? The full bonnet was very heavy and always fell backwards so im pretty sure thats why they changed designs.

It talks about the different substyles such as egyptian lolita, muslim lolita, rap lolita.. lol

I bought a bunch of clothes that I would never wear in some bulk lots. Now I am wanting to wear them even though I don't love them. Is this normal?

literally just tie a bow
didn't you learn how to tie your shoes in 1st grade?
>>
>>9243354
I don't think that's why they did it; I have both old and new bonnets and I think they weigh about the same. I haven't had troubles with my old ones falling at all, but the crown is oddly shallow for some reason.

If I had to guess I'd say because it's cheaper and easier to crank out the new style. They aren't as detailed and I don't think the materials are quite as nice.
>>
>>9243925
No. My parents could afford velcro shoes. :^)
>>
>>9243963
most parents of autistis buy their kids velcro shoes, don't see why yours would be any different

>>9243592
you do it the bunny-ears way, without making a square knot in the beginning. then you fluff and adjust.

I hate to post so close to the thread ending but I have an urgent question before buying something. Were there replicas made of sweet cream house? If so, which cuts? I know it comes up cheap often, I'm just nervous about ending up with a replica as I'm very much against IP theft.

Is anyone out there keeping track of replicas? It would be nice to have a database so people know what dresses to be careful with. I know sugary carnival had tons of replicas, but not aware of what else since I would never shop from oojia or anything like that
>>
>>9244048
I don't think sweet cream house had a replica made of it, no. I also can't find any info on google about there being a replica so I think you're safe.
>>
>>9244076
Thank you, I wasn't finding any on google either

Real quick question.

What are the chances that I'll find Charlotte's Bear OP in Black within Japan (in a thrift store or even online auctions) in.. 5 months?

It's a dream dress and somebody is selling one locally, bnwt for a.. Pretty high price. At the same time, visiting Japan for 'dream holiday' and saving for that is probably a million times more important.
>>
>>9244446
don't worry about it anon, i learned through trial and error

t. a gull who ties her own waist and neck ties every day

>>9244480
5 months is a long time. i say you'll differently run into charlotte's bear, but maybe not in the particular cut or color you want. maybe contact the seller and see if they'd be so kind to hold it just in case? or even lower the price. murphy's law and all of that. if it's your dream dress you've gotta take precautions.

but if that's not an option, i'd say just hop over to glorious nippon and hope for the best. burando is a lot more easily accessible overseas and there's likely to be more of it circulating.

My JSK arrived today at my SS but with "very obvious staining".
Despite being advertised as "without any stain/damage" and pictures looking fine
>tfw paid 90 bucks for it
>tfw also has a taobao order stuck somewhere in my country since 22days
why me
>>
>>9244048
It would be nice for people to pay what's worth for an original creation or just don't buy it.
>>
>>9244523
Oh no! That sucks, anon, but if it's any consolation these stains look like they'll come out easily in the wash. I don't think the print will bleed but you might want to check to make sure beforehand.
>>
>>9244523
Do SSes write bad feedback on people like this? They really should.
>>
>>9244553
no, the feedback was probably left well before anon even received the dress. i'm assuming the ss didn't know it was stained.
>>
>>9244558
oops i misread op, ignore me i'm retarded.

i think ss do leave bad feedback when this happens and they catch it.

>>9243368
