i agree with you, anon. i would call the coord "gothic styled in a classic way." but to be fair, major non-gothic lolita brands have shifted their gothic releasws away from the gothic aesthetic that brands like AtPie, Boz, Moitie etc. have kept. Alice and the Pirates is the most visible/popular lolita brand that releases gothic pieces, and there's a reason shopping sites keep them grouped with "lolita" instead of with "goth" and why Atelier Pierrot gets grouped with "goth" instead of "lolita." mainline lolita hasn't favored gothic styling, even for gothic pieces.

popular lolitas like Misako style their gothic sweetly (pic related) and popular Western lolitas tend to style it classicly because that's the popular aesthetic here.

ten, fifteen years ago, a lot of sweet lolitas often had more gothic styling because that was the dominant aesthetic when the scene was more connected to visual kei.

hope this makes sense. my basic point is the three major styles are often styled by mainline lolitas according to whichever is more fashionable at the moment. if gothic comes back as the dominant substyle, normal lolitas might do their gothic coords more gothicly, but for now "classic-gothic hybrids" are what's more accessible.
