Forgive the messy living room picture. Its been a very long week.

K-9 is done. Just need to plug in the R/C bits do a final test and then it can be broken down and shipped out. Not my most impressive or complex project but Its nice to have a neat gift for my sister.

Kinda last minute decision but one of my other cosplays fell thru for AWA.

Working on Stevonnie, have the shield taped off and pattern drawn. I took a pic to show it's transparent! Also Have rose's sword outlined on panel wood and I plan to use eva foam to give it a 3-D shape.

It's not just you; the shoulders are too small, they need to be like 2x that size in order to match the proportions of the reference. I always have the same problem with scaling ridonkulous pauldrons.

>>9169998
The vertices are all caulked, right? Maybe go over with another color of caulk, changing colors between layers makes it easier to see if you've missed a spot.

>>9170162
You can stop the ends of the straps from fraying by melting them with a lighter.

Looking good, I'm making a MH cosplay right now too, Aelucanth

Your proportions are going to be off no matter what, because the heads / helmets in the artwork are much smaller than a real person's, so every helmet cosplay looks like they have a giant head (or if they scale up the shoulder armor to match it, it looks like they have stubby legs or a tiny lower body and short arms)

My problem right now is the edges of the cardboard. What can I use to fill them in to not look like cardboard when I paint it?

I've been on and off trying to make a Pyramid Head helmet. The front part is based on the shapes someone made for deviantart, but even though they made a back part it was missing the side pieces.
http://www.deviantart.com/art/Pyramid-Head-Helmet-Pattern-174535263
Actually I don't think I could find one that wasn't based on the fucking movie. So most of my time is trying to figure out how those side pieces should look. His official appearance is somewhat inconsistent throughout the art and games, but I really think I got the shapes right to match his original ingame model which I've been looking at through Blender. This is just the shape for now, and I still need to figure out how I want to see out of it because I don't want to make it obvious how I'm looking out. Also thought of adding a pocket or something under the front part for my wallet and phone since I need to put them somewhere.
>>
>>9178152
Yo could drill some holes in a pattern to make it look like theres a metal grate welded on the front, and even if it's not screen accurate. it will blend perflecty with the rest of the helmet.
>Also thought of adding a pocket or something under the front part for my wallet and phone since I need to put them somewhere.
Ism't that what pants are for? Or, since you are making the videogame version of PH, add a pocket on the in side of the chest area of the apron

As an experienced cardboardist myself, I can tell you right now.. DO NOT FUCKING PAINT DIRECTLY ON CARDBOARD.

Even if you've got a really nice, stiff kind of cardboard (which it doesn't look like you do) the paint's semi-watery properties will make the cardboard soggy and make the corrugated texture show through more aggressively.

You need a finishing layer on top of that. Most go with cardstock (the kind of stuff cereal boxes are made of) but you can also use posterboard. If you attach it with wood glue, it will make the whole thing more sturdy. The problem you might have from there is that you can end up with a glossy surface that isn't great for holding paint.

You can also use Paper Mache, like >>9178485 said, also with wood glue. Seriously, wood glue is a god send for cosplayers.

Why wood glue? Because it dries sturdy, it seeps into paper and cardboard, creating a strong bond, and it's sandable. Sand your fucking props. Trust me. You can sand cardboard. Hell, you can sand just about anything. Go to the dollar store and pick up a few sanding sponges, and use them to death.

If you layer in some woodglue around those rough cardboard edges, you can sand those down until you have smooth curves and chamfers.

You can also partially water down wood glue on its own and paint it on in layers to get a smooth, even coating, once you've got a finishing layer on top of that cardboard.
>>
>>9170675
Seconding >>9180145; absolutely do not paint on cardboard. You have some really fantastic stuff going on with the shaping of your armor so far and it would be a real shame to see it get ruined.

Personally I'd recommend doing what people do with cardstock armor and coating the inside - not the outside, only the inside - with fiberglass resin. You don't need to use actual fiberglass cloth, just the resin; it soaks into the cardboard/cardstock and dries VERY hard. The glass cloth is actually the really nasty half of the equation, so you already avoid 95% of the hazards associated with fiberglassing if you aren't using it. You still 100% want to do it outside/use a mask because the resin does make fumes, though.

I'd resin the back and then just papermache over the whole surface of the armor. You can then sand it smooth to hide any corrugation or such from the cardboard, and if you make sure you wrap it over the edges and onto the 'underside' of the armor it'll hide the edge holes. Just don't skimp on your papermache thickness, do it in several layers so you don't sand right through it on accident. You'll need to add extra layers to build up some spots like where the cardboard has bent along the corrugation on the shoulders. And give it plenty of time to dry between layers or you'll end up with a soggy mess.

Use contact cement, not hot or super glue, and your seams will look much better.

There's a dozen top tier foam cosplay channels on youtube. Check out Punished Props or Evil Ted or just search "foam cosplay" on youtube for fuck's sake.
>>
>>9180891
The seams actually just look that shit because it was rushed af haha
But yea I already ordered some contact cement
>>
>>9180891
Different anon but since you're recommending rubber cement, should I invest in Barge or is there a cheaper alternative that works? I've tried the 6$ shit from Hobby Lobby but it would only sometimes work for me. Other times I just couldn't get it to stick in places.

Oh god so many updates. Witcher progress 1 and 2.
Got back into leather working again, Made a belt a knife sheath and leather pouch. The other stuff on there were other pieces that I already had.

Update part two, making sword sheaths as well, got one nearly done last night, will be finishing it up tonight and starting on the next right after. Still need to make the chapes but all in all they are turning out pretty nice. about 300 stiches each sheath, through thick leather is playing hell on my fingers but whatever.

Freddy update. Got pretty much everything together, need to distress the sweater a bit more, wanna put one more hole in it as I realized the silicone mask covers alot more of my chest than I had previously thought. Still, just about ready for halloween now.

We don't have Barge in my country, so I have to use what I can. I've used the cheap alternatives and the more expensive ones and they all work the same, in my experience.
Just let the glue on both sides dry well. If you're working with foam like the MH armour, you can just fan the pieces so the glue dries quicker.

My own progress is halted, everything looks shit right now so no pics. Why'd I have to pick a mascot costume...
>>
>>9180145
>>9180190
I agree with both, but youy can also save some cash if you tape some wire on the inside of the armor instead of using resin, and just remove it when it dries. I always cut small stripes of paper to cover the edge first, then bigger pieces to cover the rest, so I end applying 4 layers and an extra one on the edges at the end. And if you want a really smooth finish, try brushing some layers of gesso after sanding the paper mache, then sanding the gesso, too.( I usually use 80, 100 and 150 grit for the paper mache, then 240, 400, 800, and sometimes even 1000 grit for the gesso).
>>
>>9183931

Today I made a mock up of a Cromulon (SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT) from Rick and Morty. I still have some work to do on it. I'm going to try to make an inflatable suit out of it. Mainly trying to figure out the proportions and how I'll even begin to make this thing. It's over 4' tall. I already found the nylon and blower motors. I'm going to make the eyes out of a fine mesh. Hopefully the mesh will trap enough air to keep the costume inflated. If those Trex costumes can do it I should be able to as well. I also just noticed his head is way to pointy but I can fix that before the material gets here.

Does anybody have any suggestions for sewing Nylon? From what I've read its not to bad.

Nice job man! I love how you drew on so many different skills and tools for this costume. Very envious.
