As to whether it's worth going both days, I usually do, especially if there's guests I want to see. All the celebrity guests are pretty shit this year, but I'm still going the full weekend so I can catch up with friends.

I went to animaga maid cafe and it was really cute and pretty great food was okay and hitomi the @home japanese maid was super great and great but today madman released a promo for their cafe and it looks like utter shit they used the same songs animaga did, including the @home signature song, shitty love live maid uniforms like smash but ill fitting and crap quality, ugly af maids and butlers it looks honestly so laughable im not even going to try it omfg

Sales were absolutely TERRIBLE in the alley. I'm willing to chalk my own poor performance up to the facts that it was my first con, I didn't have many prints ready so my display looked suuuuper empty, and my art isn't as great as a lot of the other artists, but I made a grand total of 21 sales over the two days-- 16 on Saturday, 5 on Sunday.

All of my neighbours were doing pretty poorly too, lots of people would come past and look and chat but never actually buy anything, I swear by 1:00 on both days we'd be passed by everybody at the convention at least twice.

Well, the artist alley at madfest has convinced me to try to get into it next year, I worries but art was not good enough, but I'd be better than half of the people there.

In Perth this weekend there was a new con called Evolve. They were around last year but it was really tiny two rooms and one day. I guess I'm not as cynical as I thought because I really thought they would pick someone other than a big-boobed cosplayer with hundreds of bought likes to win their grand prize of a trip to Singapore, but I guess it makes sense since they're really trying to expand this year.

Watched it today on Facebook and I had to cover my face I had that much second hand embarrassment. Yikes guys. When will you teach your Eli to have some enthusiasm (she's improved but honestly) when will you Nico learn to remember her moves and omg why did your Eli and Nozomi do a duet. I wanted to cry. This isn't even mentioning the songs choices are terrible and drawn out. Just do the shorter versions girls and don't let it drag on. One good thing did come of this performance though! I'm going to put in my two cents as a costume crafter.

I wasn't impressed with Lady Jaded's outfit. This isn't a slight against her because she's a wonderful woman and genuinely really nice. But the crown was sloppy and its details were wonky and uneven, there was absolutely no support in the dress whatsoever, which made her boob-window not as clean as it could have been, and the feathers were painted with what looked like cheap acrylic paint.

Against some of the other competitors, her dress was nice, but... nothing spectacular. There wasn't anything in the construction of it that spoke of any understanding beyond general sewing that hinted at it being more than a slight effort.

I'm just disappointed, and sad.

I thought PikaPi's was way more impressive, well crafted, showed a huge range of skills: I only wish she wouldn't do gijinka pokemon all the time. It's really hard to say how good or accurate a cosplay is when it's an original design. In harsher terms, it's an OC and you can avoid designing anything you can't make.

My beef is that she painted the feathers for her Cape and it ended up stiff as hell, I mean painting was probably the way to go but why not use an airbrush so its not as hard and such???
There were definitely others there who deserved to win more and the way they did the picking for who won was terrible, why didn't they just pick 1 day to select a winner from, have winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and then a grand prize winner or separate competitions? I mean the Sunday competition didn't even include groups, it was a mess desu and I hope they sort it out and improve because it seems like the con can be really successful in time
