What does /cgl/ think about this trend of heavy lineart "comic book" style of makeup/costume design? I personally like it if it's done head-to-toe and the details are percise, but I feel like it's become a requirement for every Telltale games/Archer cosplay and as so is done very half-assidly most of the time. Also, anyone that's achieved this style, what's your secrets?
Looks terrible 100% of the time.

No one where I'm from has dared to go this route for cosplay. But I'd love to see what it looks like in action. Is it a hot mess or does it look just as good irl as it does in pictures?
Does this only work when you look at it from a specific angle?

Unflattering angles make it look stupid. Poor execution makes it look stupid.
Hard to pull off, and usually only works for photoshoots.

I think it looks good, especially when done right - which seems to make it or break it. I see a lot of people just putting random black lines on themselves, rather than where the lineart would ACTUALLY go.
One of my biggest peeves about it though is when (mostly) the female cosplayers do a really nice blended eyeshadow or something, which clashes with the blocky, cel look that they're going for.
i thought cel shaded was a dead meme
Sometimes it looks cool, but I can honestly say I've never seen it IRL.
Ive seen a few borderlands cosplays irl that did the cel shading look pretty well, but the bad ones outnumber the good.

>literally putting an outdated racial slur for vietnamese people all over your paper and cardboard cosplay

Explain.

This could've been p cool but it desperately needs some higher contrast with absolute whites and absolute blacks. Maybe you could dye individual strands of a white wig black to get the crosshatch effect.

Charlie Don't Surf. Look it up. I don't think that makes the cosplay bad though.

I spent a minute and a half trying to find the word gook this is bullshit.

>Charlie Don't Surf is a famous line from the 1979 film Apocalypse Now, spoken by Lt. Col. Kilgore as justification for taking a beach at the Mekong Delta so the American soldiers could go surfing. American soldiers referred to the Viet Cong as "Victor Charlie" or simply as "V-C." "Victor" and "Charlie" are both letters in the NATO phonetic alphabet, corresponding to 'V' and 'C', respectively. "Charlie," when used alone, referred to communist forces in general, both Việt Cộng and North Vietnamese.
I seriously doubt anyone under the age of 70 would ever think to use the name "Charlie" as a slur against Vietnamese communists.
