In various room, taobao, AliExpress, etc. type threads, anons often report having trouble finding items for a gothic aesthetic. Please share your inspo, purchases, and sources to help each other out of this endless sea of cutesy kitsch. Also feel free to share OC/selfpost for concrit or whatever.

surely every goth knows this

HOWEVER, it could be nice to share what we find at specific stores. Michael's has some great, hefty skulls out, and i think some cauldrons as well. Joann Fabrics has some Halloween out, and their Buttercream Cosette decor is discounted (last i checked at the one near me); together they can make some cool lolita or ouji decor.

pic related is from their Cosette collection, which is usually located right next to their seasonal decor. the Cosette stuff feels closer to classic but some of it can definitely fit a gothic aesthetic.

i had a huge vintage mirror that i left behind after moving with it once before. i was moving to a smaller room and could not hang it in public spaces so i let my former roommates keep it. it was also heavy as fuck.

i got a smaller vintage shelf (table- or desktop type) which ended up cracking into pieces during transport. i am not settled enough to get vintage items, it seems! not if i move about 1x a year.
>>
>>9125589
Never bought any antiques and the stuff we have from family is in great condition so I wouldn't dream of touching it. However, I would say that it is a bitch to move - my family moved house 3 times with antique furniture from my grandmother and great-grandmother in tow including a full dining table set, small side tables, carved drinks cabinet, multiple camphor chests etc and even though it's solid, heavy duty stuff it still requires care to move because of the finish and detailing. So my advice would be unless you have your own house, stick to the smaller items of furniture or antique-inspired stuff.

I have a chandelier in an attic bedroom. Unless you are 6ft tall AND your max room height is 6'2" you should be able to get away with a modestly sized chandelier, just shorten the chandelier chain so it doesn't dangle too much and get one with short crystal drops (whatever they're called, the bits that dangle). If you still have trouble, consider removing the lowest hanging crystals as well.

I was worried about height problems too anon but life's too short, don't let your dreams be dreams, get a baby-chandelier and shorten the chain. Low ceilings makes them easy to dust/clean and change bulbs too, high ceilings are overrated.

Pic related, if you get rid of most of the chain length you almost halve the height required.

Brush your dog as much as you can to get all the loose hairs. You're just gonna have to be on top of maintenance as well, in addition to the other anon. When you notice a buildup of fur lint roll it ASAP, lint roll after your dog gets up on your bed, etc. But also try to choose fabrics for your canopy and bed that won't attract fur as much.

Thanks for posting this! I love growing black plants as well. Black hollyhocks are especially impressive.
Alternatively for vampires: an interesting garden is a moon garden. I know I don't really enjoy going out in the day, so a garden that blooms at night is really fun. You can just sit out there and read with proper lighting and enjoy the quiet.

I like the stark black/white thing but i feel like the black fabrics should be varied. Different textures and weights. This looks like its all just black cotton broadcloth and it looks too flat. If the bedcurtains were a lighter weight and the duvet had a velvety or suede texture it would help.
