I love lolita and j-fashion but I'm not really into this kind of music and I feel like most people I meet who participate in this hobby either like j-pop or j-rock or whatever korean version there is, OR they like theatrical stuff and musicals..
am I right to think that most lolitas and j-fashion people like that kind of stuff more than anything else? Is it just because the two are related? Or do people really enjoy this kind of music?
>>9119401
I can appreciate some sweet pop, but I generally don't like venturing into J-territory.
This'd be the closest thing I get to it, and incidentally what I listen to when I want to be in a mood that makes me feel cute.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRj_4YZXLQY
I mostly play rock or metal. If I'm wearing gothic I feel compelled to play moi dix moi.
I listen to the sounds of me getting fucked played over a dance track.
>>9119401
ive just always loved jpop/rock and have been into musicals.
But I also listen and attend a lot of local punk shows and metal ones. It would be boring to enjoy only one set of music.
https://youtu.be/OA-WbTIqN-U
I listen to a variety of video game soundtracks, particularly ones that make me feel comfy, cute and happy. Like Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda, even Nintendogs. I just really enjoy instrumentals, they're soothing. So I also listen to classical composers.
The sounds of my screaming.

Fair enough
As much as I listen to music on a daily basis, I actually enjoy having lolita vlogs playing in the background while I'm getting ready.
I've had a chillwave/glo-fi kick for some time now. I'll at least play something like this on the way to the meetup

Incoming figurative blog post. Polite sage.

It's ok, I'm in the same boat. There's a number of us who go on /mu/ too.
I think that the concepts are intertwined. A lot of people I know got into lolita through anime and are theatre types. It's kind of hard to get into a weird kawaiii fashion or remain involved if you weren't a weeaboo or some kind of geek in the first place. A lot of anime and J-pop music is cutesy like lolita, so I get that people find the association appropriate. I've also noticed that a lot of lolitas are into metal and punk, and while I'm sure the interest is genuine, it also seems like people enjoy the contrast.
I was heavily involved in theatre but I prefer plays over musicals, so while there are many memorable music, showtunes were never my thing. And unfortunately, choir/music theory kind of ruined my ability to enjoy a lot of pop music. I'd probably enjoy idol groups if there was more focus on technicality over appearances, and members were comprised with a variety of vocal ranges and timbres. Also, not a huge fan of Vocaloid though the technology is cool. I do like this a lot though (then again, I like shoegazing music)
>Mikugazer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPnFLl5LiYY
I'm still a bit of a weeaboo though. I'm very fond of Japan's indie, downtempo, and jazz scene. I like how in spite of borrowing heavily from the West, there's still a distinct Japanese flair.
Ex:
>Tricot, mathrock
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZjTXh_zaXc
>Dj Sorama, downtempo/instrumental hip-hop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYfiIu63Rlg
>Bohemian Voodoo, jazz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjDrEdEzfQc
I could never get into V-kei for some reason though. I think I was really into Capsule and other Shibuya-kei music at the time V-Kei was popular.
>>9119488
is right. It'd be boring to be into one kind of music, but there are people who are like that, and that's ok.

FUCK YEAH
I listen to some K-Pop and J-Pop but can't ever really get into it to the same intensity that I usually do when I discover musicians I really like.
I listen to a varying range of genres I guess but I'm pretty much /mu/ trash
>>9119092
Diru
Type O Negative, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cure, Depeche Mode, 10 Years, the list goes on...
I listen to Portal and Portal2 soundtracks.
Sometimes undertale too.
When I'm dressing gothic I listen to Bloodborne's. It feels like I'm summoning Satan in my room.
Overall I listen to a lot of game soundtracks
Marina and the Diamonds. I feel like a bad ass bitch

it's gotta be groovy, man. mostly smooth jazzy stuff, sometimes electro.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAj8suae3WY Anything Kate Bush and a lot of 80s new wave/pop
I recently got really into alt jpop. There's a group called Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da, I guess they're yamikawaii and menhera themed. I've started looking on Homicidols a lot for new groups.
I like listening to drag queen music. Usually very fun and upbeat, feels especially fitting when applying makeup.
>>9123005
Same, in addition to drag queens I have Primadonna on my Spotify "getting ready" playlist.
>>9123005
Froot is my hype track for pretty much any occasion.
My new favorite song currently

If anyone has not checked out DAOKOs other songs besides her 2 (mememe, girl), you are a fool.
Anything by Perfume. Chocolate Disco is a classic.
I don't listen to anything when getting ready. I actually don't really listen to music that much in general.
>>9125465
Are you a robot?
>>9125476
No, I'm just not that overly into music. I have to either really be in the mood to turn on music to listen to, or be extremely bored. I don't even listen to music when I drive.

>>9125545
Lol
>>9125563
You're not the only one! I know its probably shunned but I just like those overly cutesy songs.
Not a fan of the heavily robotic vocoloid stuff though, which tends to pop up a lot when looking for those sorts of songs.
Grimes's "Art Angels" has been my go to album for listening to while doing pretty much anything lately.

For my menhera coords
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVKn1Ke4hVQ
>>9119401
I've definitely noticed a similar trend!
While I do like some j-pop and musical theater, it's not my go-to or main listening style, but I think I can see why it would be a common preference for people who are also into j-fashion. A creative fashion hobby that originated in Japan would logically correlate with Japanese music and theater-oriented stuff.
Me, I listen to the same stuff getting ready that I normally listen to--power/symphonic metal and orchestral works (anything from movie soundtracks to Romantic/Modern classical).
Recently I've been really into Spellblast, Serenity, and Twilight Force.

>tried listening to 'Harajuku Girls'
>couldn't make it past 1:24
>>9127578
Oh dear ... I'm trying to listen to it now. Its been so long since I've heard this album. I remember when she came out with her perfume called "L" and it was supposed to be named after L from Death Note? And all her Harajuku girls merchandise. I wonder how the nips felt about it, I'm sure that they liked that an American celebrity was so into them.
Wa mono - there's me, there's you (hoko-ten)
In a pedestrian paradise
Where the catwalk got its claws (meow)
A subculture in a kaleidoscope of fashion
Prowl the streets of Harajuku (irasshaimase)
Super lovers, tell me where you got yours
(at the super lovers store)
Yoji Yamamoto, I'm hanging with the locals
Where the catwalk got its claws, all you fashion know-it-alls
With your underground malls in the world of Harajuku
Putting on a show, when you dress up in your clothes
Wild hair color and cell phones
Your accessories are dead on
Harajuku Girls you got the wicked style
I like the way that you are, I am your biggest fan
Harajuku Girls you got the wicked style
I like the way that you are, I am your biggest fan
Harajuku girls, I'm looking at you girls
You're so original girls
You got the look that makes you stand out
Harajuku Girls, I'm looking at you girls
You mix and match it girls
You dress so fly and just parade around (arigato)
I'm fascinated by the Japanese fashion scene
Just an American girl, in the Tokyo streets
My boyfriend bought me a Hysteric Glamour shirt
They're hard to find in the states, got me feeling couture (it's really cool)
What's that you got on? Is it Comme des Garcons?
Vivienne Westwood can't go wrong, mixed up with second hand clothes
(Let's not forget about John Galliano) (no)
Flipped the landscape when Nigo made A Bathing Ape
I got expensive taste (oh, well) guess I better save up (cho takai)
Harajuku Girls you got the wicked style
I like the way that you are, I am your biggest fan
Work it, express it, live it, command your style
Create it, design it
Now let me see you work it
Create it, design it
Now let me see you work it
You bring style and color all around the world. (You Harajuku Girls)
You bring style and color all around the world. (You Harajuku Girls)
>>9127591
You're looking so distinctive like D.N.A., like nothing I've ever seen in the U.S.A.
Your underground culture, visual grammar
The language of your clothing is something to encounter
A Ping-Pong match between eastern and western
Did you see your inspiration in my latest collection?
Just wait 'til you get your little hands on L.A.M.B.,
'Cause it's (super kawaii), that means (super cute in Japanese)
The streets of Harajuku are your catwalk (bishoujo you're so vogue)
That's what you drop
Cho saikou - Harajuku Girls
And that's what you drop, that's what you drop
Cho saikou - Harajuku Girls
And that's what you drop, that's what you drop
(I don't think you understand I'm your biggest fan)
(Gwen Stefani - you like me?)
Style detached from content
A fatal attraction to cuteness
Style is style
Fashion is fashion
Girl, you got style.

mu chart is down, but here's a sample of mine via topsters (kinda hate this version, and like yours, mine is slightly out of date). Not in any particular order. Kind of in a chillwave kick. I used to listen to a lot of lo-fi and instrumental hip hop, but not so much anymore.
Man, I wish a bunch of us could go have a meetup at a record store or to see a show or even just a music share and listen meet.
>>9127856
because most seagulls don't bother with mu memes.
I like PC music though, even if it's really a joke. I'm partial to Kane West. You have a point though: I'm kind of surprised that it doesn't seem to be a thing among lolita/J-fashion fans because it's got that poppy dance vibe a lot of people seem to like with idol groups.
From the times I've been to /mu/ I didnt really like it. They take shit way too seriously.

Yee. It used to be my home away board, but it's gone downhill in recent years; it doesn't help that it's summer. Leddit boards are more useful, especially if you go into subforums. Kind of prefer messing around SoundCloud or going to music publications.
I mostly lurk nowadays. Can't be too bothered to post because it's mostly people shitposting or overplaying memes. Right now, I can't wrap my head around the constant Grimes threads. At least the Death Grips hype died down omg.
>>9128408
Oh nice. I used to listen to Raujika and a bunch of other producers/DJs whose works are modeled after Nujabes (RIP); Marcus D comes to mind, although he's from the UK.
