Post pics and talk about projects.
Started mostly because I'm going ot have to make four senshi uniforms for some beardy, muscly dudes and need a place to bounce questions.
I like the official AX groups but their skirts are way too long. Was that a thing the company decided?
can't think of any other examples offhand but in the manga usagi is described as very average. that's part of her appeal as a character, she isn't particularly beautiful or intelligent or graceful but her friends love her anyway.
I like the galaxy skirt, and I wouldn't mind the transformation ribbon concept if it was sheer (though it probably still wouldn't look all that great) but what the FUCK is going on with that hair?!
Oh, you know. Just ye ol' under the eye white eyeliner trick. It's a shame. Their make looks generally good, apart from chibiusa and jupiter...
My mom used to have that pattern. She never did make me that costume.
Oh why is that?
Moon's wig is set back too far but the group looks nice otherwise.
Punk Sailor Moon is never a good idea
This looks like shit. So much wasted material.. they look stupid
I've seen so many Senshi cosplayers whose skirts are "accurate" length but you can see their butt/ spanx/ underwear. I think this is the most realistic/appropriate/etc length for cosplayers. They just all have short legs so it doesn't look right
I'm a sewing novice, I've made some things with patterns (a Kuranosuke sweater dress and a cape for Wirt from Over the Garden Wall) and two things without patterns (a Jedi cloak / tunic dickey) and a bubble (sack) dress
I can learn pretty quickly and I've adapted both of the patterns to fit my needs. I don't know how to use stretchy fabric and I'm afraid to spend the money on it - but I've always dreamed of a Sailor Moon cosplay and I don't want to buy one. I think once or twice a year I get into a fever again and start researching all over again to try, but I think my skills are there now to actually make it.
I've had the idea that I want to use a bought leotard as a base. I need help with everything else.
I could spend hours through Google looking for the best tutorial and researching but I have ADHD and I would like to avoid doing that again.
TLDR Please send me your best tutorials, how to's, patterns, DIY patterns, photos, etc.
Planning my first ever sailor moon cosplay for a con next year, and I'm so out of my element. Idk if I should attempt to alter a store bought cosplay or find someone to commission from. I can't sew for shit and don't mind paying a professional. I've been looking at wigs online but they all seem so yellow? Is that normally how they are? Any recommendations?
>I could spend hours through Google looking for the best tutorial and researching but
If you aren't going to bother doing any research I don't think you have what it takes to make a good fuku.
Google "Sparkle Pipsi Sailor Fuku Tutorial".
It's the one I used for pic related and it was fairly easy to follow with my sewing skills. I bought a white leotard and handstitched the hip roll to it while I was wearing it so it'd stretch out properly. I also bought the gloves and handstitched the rolls to them.
Fabric choice is up to you. I used a heavier cotton because it looked clean and I felt like that's what their fukus would be made of. There's a lot of pretty satin fukus too - you just have to do it right.
One last thing: be sure to wear some sort of panty hoes or tights. It'll make you look more put together and provides some extra protection if you're like me and don't feel too comfortable in short skirts.
Sorry for the poor quality photos. I'll take better ones someday.
thank youuuu anon a life saver
I agree about the pantyhose! desu
it makes a world of difference to me seeing Senshi costumes
ah sorry I guess I didn't really mention this well enough -- I've done tons of research, before every con since about 2012 when I bought a machine. I regularly read updates on the acparadise boards for Sailor moon, etc. They're just only ever in parts, too vague ("use this expired pattern") or too advanced ("use this pattern and change everything") for me to really understand. I have all these ideas or options, a huge bookmarks folder, but nothing concise, so I still feel lost. haha sorry I hope that made more sense
Okay, that's a bit more forgiving.
Post some examples of fukus that you like and I'll try to steer you to relevant tutorials tomorrow.
Different styles of uniforms require different techniques.
The characters of Sailor Moon are as un-punk as you can get, I just don't get it. Especially Outer punk cosplay, they're supposed to elegant and luxurious, they'd probably despise punk.
How are ANY of the armored/crossover/punk Sailor Moon costumes a good idea?
Next thing I know you're going to try to say that Noflutters shit are great designs.
So far all the ones I've seen are yellow blonde. Are you open to styling a wig or are you strictly buying? Because you could use Arda wigs for a base. Don't know how you'd do the odangos, maybe Styrofoam balls and hair glued on?
no, a cyberpunk or steampunk sailor moon group isnt ironic, its just dumb.
punk is so much the antithesis of what the scouts are though that it is ironic.
Cuddly or cute versions of Dark Souls cosplay would have the same effect in the opposite direction.
>Team going about their daily lives
>Some misunderstanding maybe
>Villains talk about how to defeat them and plants a monster related to misunderstanding
>Team has to gather together and transform
>Team does a rollcall and enemy waits patiently
>Members have codenames and specific colors and abilities
>Mysterious "Extra" member might come in to lend a hand
>Defeat the monster with same attacks, maybe a combo attack
Only difference is no helmets and the monsters don't get bigger.
Sailor Moon is a toku/sentai team. The studio that makes super sentai made the live action PGSM
So technically the ninjas fit better because there's never going to be a super sentai where they're punks or banchos or steeampunk even. Still stupid.
Check out Sparkle Pipsi's tutorial, Simplicity's tutorial, Nyu Nyu's glove rolls tutorial, Cupcake Cosplay's tutorial, and Katherine Zan's tutorial. Lots of patterns and methods available so if you like the look of a bow in one tutorial but like the chest armor from another, just mix and match your preferences!
bumping with an actual child Saturn.
I'm in the planning stages for a Sailor Star Fighter cosplay. Anyone have any cool starlight cosplays for inspo? Ive seen a few pics but most look pretty sloppy.
Also, I'm thinking of wearing yellow hotpants underneath the black pleather shorts, rather than try to sew a random yellow triangle on the front v like most people seem to do. Pic related.
Not much to it. Was approached by some guys at work who expressed that they'd love to be a senshi team with their full hipster beards and hairy legs. Instead of buying cheap crappy ebay costumes they wanted custom, quality ones to up their impact. They're paying well and letting me call the shots for wigs and fabric and such. We tested their fuku mockups yesterday and I'm getting onto the final leotards now and casting gems in the meantime. Highly recommend the dome mold from TAP plastic btw
The biggest problem is that the weathered-as-fuck, over-detailed, Blizzard style armor does not go at all with the clean, plain, spotless spandex. If they took half the effort then put into the armor into adding some embellishment to the base outfits I'd tolerate this.
i hate everything about this. seriously why the fuck would you have chibi moon over sailor moon? why is mars in the middle? if nigri wanted to be the centre of everything why didn't she just do moon? god damn.
>chibi moon has balloon tits and a very highlighted cleavage
>chibi moon out of all the scouts
Nigri has to be the centre of attention always, didn't you know that? And Gladzy (Mercury) who designed the stupid outfits will fucking do anything to suck Nigri's dick since doing this propelled her to ""famous"" status.
Bathroom question: With the Crystal Lake leotard pattern, how? Do you just have to pull the entire leotard off every time nature calls? Has anyone done buttoned crotch flaps before, and if so, how did they turn out?
Please post pictures when they're all suited up together! (if you're comfortable with it)
woah nelly! sailor moon group drama exploding on the texas /cgl/ thread
>Sailor Moon thread is dead and slowing falling off the board
>Texas thread is on the front page, overflowing with drama
This is sad.
Either our thread dies or it gets ruined by drama.
I don't like the idea of the crossover but I like that for once Usagi is cosplayed by someone with a rounder face and cuter looks. Usually the role goes to the person who has the worst resting bitch face and can only pull the red lips + smokey eyes look.
Since when does cute = fat? Usagi has always been depicted as having almost model like long, thin limbs, and especially Serenity is supposed to be graceful looking.
I get that you guys want to project and feel like a chubby chick can pull off any of the senshi, but nobody other than you guys are buying it. It looks freaking weird.
"1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."
That's more of a side effect of the style itself. Usagi herself is always worried about her weight, other characters comment on how much junk food she eats, and if I recall correctly, even some of the villains taunt her by calling her chubby.
Granted, this is chubby by Japanese standards, which means one or two kilos and you're a whale, but there is certainly a precedent there.
I believe Takeuchi once said that Usagi is supposed to be a bit chubby. She just only draws one body type.
She's also supposed to be the shortest of the senshi besides Saturn/Chibi Moon so any extra weight would be more apparent.
Dumping some NQS and Princess Serenity
Ending dump with Queen Serenity!
If I told you, I'd get censored too.
Check the archive, and then ponder what sort of blackmail this person has on our mods.
Looks like they claimed another victim. Hope we're not next.
Same. This is really bizarre. Maybe they were on to something?
The weirdest thing here is that I made a Moon thread a short while back and we were fulling discussing if anyone knew what happened to her and nothing was deleted. Must have been a few months ago in April, I think.
>have a glove fetish
>mfw sailor moon cosplayers
Whoever created that serie deserves all the blessings.
Does it bother anyone else that their shoes aren't all the same? Like the actual characters, even in drawn group shots I think it looks awkward and would be so much better if they all wore boots/heels/anything that's the same height. I think it always makes cosplay groups look like they couldn't be bothered to find matching shoes
I think you might be looking too much into it. Not everyone who has the right face for a character is going to have the right height-- so you get a makoto with platform heels, an Usagi with kitten heels and a Chibi Usa with flats.
It used to, back went I first got in to the Moon cosplay scene. I do like things to match.
Now though I think the shoes are a great way to show a little more about each senshi's personality and I'm glad they don't all match.
Only two things and they're tiny things.
Wish all the scouts had painted their nails. Once you see it on Ami and Rei it stands out on the others.
I like the inclusion of the planetary sign on Jupiter, would have been cute to see other incorporation elsewhere on the others.
Can anyone think of a cute casual way to do sailor moon costumes for halloween without going full cosplay mode? We're going to be doing the usual partying so there's no reason to do an accurate cosplay. I was thinking about those shirts or sweaters that have the collars and bows screen printed on them along with matching skirts and accessories.
Order one of the really cheap ebay costumes. Just search sailor _______ cosplay and set it to lowest price you'll find them easy. They'll probably be ill-proportioned and made with shiny cheap satin but with some ironing and okay wigs normies will think you're totally legit.
Buy those skater dresses.
I'm not a fan but they sound like exactly what you are looking for.
I actually just bought a Halloween costume like this on eBay (pic related). I've included the link below; I bought the Sailor Saturn version.
The only thing I have to say about it that's really negative is that the front bow isn't attached very well and tends to flop over on itself. A couple small safety pins should fix it, though. Otherwise the material is quite durable and it fits well. Obviously the shoulder pads and colors are wrong for actual Saturn cosplay, but for a Halloween costume, I don't really care.
Can I just ask why so many Sailor Mars cosplayers make her bangs part in the middle or give her a side bang and keep them really flat? She obviously has puffy choppy bangs with a slight part to show off the tiara. I never got that.
This would be so great if the wig were right. Why is this so hard?
The buns go on top of your head. You're not princess leia. I honestly don't understand why this is so fucking difficult for everyone to do. If you can take the time to do this I would imagine you can style a couple of parts of the wig to be like two inches further up.
Fuck it, my jimmies are in orbit. I don't even care.
>There's not a long of wigs with bangs that allow for an easy middle parting
>Wigs that are parted in the middle are hard to style into bangs and require a lot of cutting
>Not a lot of people consider the tiara problem until day of
>Bag will cover the tiara but when you're wearing it you don't really notice unless you're doing a mirror check
>Choppy bangs look like chit on real people.
People are either blind or lazy and buy a parted wig and don't move the pig tails up before doing the buns.
This is absolutely necessary on Sailor Moon wigs, and why there are so many saggy odango.
Because all people are judgemental, but the wilting flower "introvert" types that tend to flock to nerdy hobbies never have the spine to be honest to peoples' faces and leave all their salt for the Internet.
You see it all the time, people whining on tumblr because their mom or sister or friend had the audacity to suggest maybe they wash their face once in a while or maybe skip the extra fudge sundae following a double quarter pounder. That's not being rude, that's actually trying to help someone you care about out.
>I like the inclusion of the planetary sign on Jupiter, would have been cute to see other incorporation elsewhere on the others.
Mars and Moon both have their symbols on.
Venus and Merc might have it on their shoes or something since we can't see all of them.
