Twill can be a very stiff material. Try for a medium weight woven polyester, it will be more comfortable. For the winter uniforms, you could probably just modify a long sleeved crop top.

I've seen so many Senshi cosplayers whose skirts are "accurate" length but you can see their butt/ spanx/ underwear. I think this is the most realistic/appropriate/etc length for cosplayers. They just all have short legs so it doesn't look right

I'm a sewing novice, I've made some things with patterns (a Kuranosuke sweater dress and a cape for Wirt from Over the Garden Wall) and two things without patterns (a Jedi cloak / tunic dickey) and a bubble (sack) dress

I can learn pretty quickly and I've adapted both of the patterns to fit my needs. I don't know how to use stretchy fabric and I'm afraid to spend the money on it - but I've always dreamed of a Sailor Moon cosplay and I don't want to buy one. I think once or twice a year I get into a fever again and start researching all over again to try, but I think my skills are there now to actually make it.

I've had the idea that I want to use a bought leotard as a base. I need help with everything else.

I could spend hours through Google looking for the best tutorial and researching but I have ADHD and I would like to avoid doing that again.

Google "Sparkle Pipsi Sailor Fuku Tutorial".

It's the one I used for pic related and it was fairly easy to follow with my sewing skills. I bought a white leotard and handstitched the hip roll to it while I was wearing it so it'd stretch out properly. I also bought the gloves and handstitched the rolls to them.

Fabric choice is up to you. I used a heavier cotton because it looked clean and I felt like that's what their fukus would be made of. There's a lot of pretty satin fukus too - you just have to do it right.

One last thing: be sure to wear some sort of panty hoes or tights. It'll make you look more put together and provides some extra protection if you're like me and don't feel too comfortable in short skirts.

Sorry for the poor quality photos. I'll take better ones someday.

Anyone have a recommendation on where to get a good tiara? I used a cheap plastic one for my last con but its too small for my head, was fairly uncomfortable.

ah sorry I guess I didn't really mention this well enough -- I've done tons of research, before every con since about 2012 when I bought a machine. I regularly read updates on the acparadise boards for Sailor moon, etc. They're just only ever in parts, too vague ("use this expired pattern") or too advanced ("use this pattern and change everything") for me to really understand. Not much to it. Was approached by some guys at work who expressed that they'd love to be a senshi team with their full hipster beards and hairy legs. Instead of buying cheap crappy ebay costumes they wanted custom, quality ones to up their impact.They're paying well and letting me call the shots for wigs and fabric and such. That's more of a side effect of the style itself. Usagi herself is always worried about her weight, other characters comment on how much junk food she eats, and if I recall correctly, even some of the villains taunt her by calling her chubby.

Does it bother anyone else that their shoes aren't all the same? Like the actual characters, even in drawn group shots I think it looks awkward and would be so much better if they all wore boots/heels/anything that's the same height. I think it always makes cosplay groups look like they couldn't be bothered to find matching shoes

I think you might be looking too much into it. Not everyone who has the right face for a character is going to have the right height-- so you get a makoto with platform heels, an Usagi with kitten heels and a Chibi Usa with flats.

It used to, back went I first got in to the Moon cosplay scene. I do like things to match.

Now though I think the shoes are a great way to show a little more about each senshi's personality and I'm glad they don't all match.

Only two things and they're tiny things.
Wish all the scouts had painted their nails. Once you see it on Ami and Rei it stands out on the others.
I like the inclusion of the planetary sign on Jupiter, would have been cute to see other incorporation elsewhere on the others.

Can anyone think of a cute casual way to do sailor moon costumes for halloween without going full cosplay mode? We're going to be doing the usual partying so there's no reason to do an accurate cosplay. I was thinking about those shirts or sweaters that have the collars and bows screen printed on them along with matching skirts and accessories.

Order one of the really cheap ebay costumes. Just search sailor _______ cosplay and set it to lowest price you'll find them easy. They'll probably be ill-proportioned and made with shiny cheap satin but with some ironing and okay wigs normies will think you're totally legit.

I actually just bought a Halloween costume like this on eBay (pic related). I've included the link below; I bought the Sailor Saturn version.

The only thing I have to say about it that's really negative is that the front bow isn't attached very well and tends to flop over on itself. A couple small safety pins should fix it, though. Otherwise the material is quite durable and it fits well. Obviously the shoulder pads and colors are wrong for actual Saturn cosplay, but for a Halloween costume, I don't really care.

Can I just ask why so many Sailor Mars cosplayers make her bangs part in the middle or give her a side bang and keep them really flat? She obviously has puffy choppy bangs with a slight part to show off the tiara. I never got that.

The buns go on top of your head. You're not princess leia. I honestly don't understand why this is so fucking difficult for everyone to do. If you can take the time to do this I would imagine you can style a couple of parts of the wig to be like two inches further up.
