Wait what? You guys actually wear this to school? How do you react to people wondering why you're wearing a uniform without your school having one?
>>9110871
If I had the money to put together nanchatte outfits when I was in school, I would have worn it. I was already labeled as the "weird" kid anyway, and once you're already an outcast you start to realize three's not much point in worrying about other's thinking your crazy over your clothes.
I don't wear nanchatte, but I sometimes put together outfits that are inspired by elements from school uniforms, as I really like they way the "cute" ones look.
I would love to wear nanchatte but im worried that being 25 means I really just shouldnt.
Do older people wear nanchatte?
>>9110898
I wear it sometimes and I'm 29, I have a serious case of baby face tho so people often think I'm still in high school.
>>9110796
I'm out of school, but I would've loved to wear some nanchatte every once in a while! I'm thinking about just working on my wardrobe for now and wearing coords out on the weekends and to cons.
>>9110871
Fuck yes. Ain't my fault my uni don't have no code. Also I tend to ignore them. I dress well, and unless they're weebs, it'll just look like regular fashion since my country has no school uniforms. Ever.
When I wear my seifuku? Yes, people may stare. I probably won't give a shit, seifuku looks great.
>>9110898
I'm nearly 25 and I wear it, to my office job even. I'm sure people think it's weird but I do wear it very toned down, like never with socks or thigh highs and if I'm wearing a plaid skirt I try to wear less uniform-y shirts (like chiffon peter pan collared blouses etc) to balance it out. I also go with shorter, o neck cardigans than the big loose ones because it looks more mature. It's really more preppy than nanchatte I guess.
It actually pisses me off that school uniforms sort of 'own' plaid skirts and white blouses. They're such basic fashion, I don't even want to look like a schoolgirl - I just like plaid and blouses. Plus uniforms are designed to be smart looking but also casual and practical for everyday wear, of course I wanna wear such a nice balance of comfy and well dressed.
>>9110871
In art school nobody seems to care, at least where i'm from. In fact most people like it.
Other than Ladybeard, are there any guys that wear nanchatte seifukus? I've been thinking about getting one for a while.
>>9111231

Heard there's a nanchatte group in NYC m8. I don't know when I'll be back in The City, but it sounds promising.
I've talked to a few of my lolita friends to see if they're interested and they all shook their heads.
Wishing you gals all the luck for the upcoming school season! I have some nanchatte in my closet but I've gone from feminine back to butch so I feel really weird wearing it.
Is there any fashionable boy style nanchatte inspiration you can throw my way?

I was right about the mental illness I see
So this really seems like a fashion one could get into a buy from even local department stores?
I mean sweater vests, cardigans, pleated skirts and button ups? Is there any reason to shop specifically from the Japanese shops in the guide?
Anybody know any skirts that arent super short? My butt makes all skirts short and all these skirts seem like my ass would just be hanging out from them :/
Any knee length pleated skirts?
I have this book and it has a lot of information on the different kinds of school uniforms. Is anyone interested in pictures of the useful stuff like how to tie ties and different kinds of jumpers?
>>9111418
My God, any and all information from that book would be greatly appreciated. Do you have scans by any chance?
>>9111275
The group is currently inactive because there's only 3 of us and it's also too hot for any meet up. Glad to see that you're interested, though.
>>9111490

I thought there would be more. Try recruiting lolitas from the NY Comm to join the nanchatte cult. I'll probably make a post. And yeah, the heat dome prevented me from wearing lolita today.
>>9111418
Please share! I would love to see them!
I really want to get into nanchatte but my campus is super SJW and I'm afraid some jabroni will confront me about cultural appropriation. They closed down a cinco de mayo party this year because someone was wearing a sombrero.

I made a chat server for nanchatte a while ago because some people are not about that FB life. There's a separate room for pictures and questions so you don't annoy anyone by clogging things up. Is anyone interested?

I mean, if I recall correctly, seifuku uniforms were inspired off of old Marine uniforms, but okay.

Bodyline skirts are pretty long, even if I wear them on my waist and not my hips. I have a pretty big butt too but idk.
Are there any nanchatte skirts on ebay that have pockets? I know some of the bodyline ones do but I'm not sure about ebay.
I'm very new to Japanese school uniforms, so maybe some of you anons who know more than I do can help.
Would you say the color of the blazers in the pic are navy or a different kind of blue? And if not navy, is there a specific name for the color in Japanese I should search for? Trying to figure out if I can just get a blazer from a Western shop or if I need to try some of the links in the spreadsheet. Thanks!

I personally would say the pants/skirt are navy, while the blazers are a sort of grey/blue?

Tell them you are part japanese and its your right to proudly display your heratige and cultural norms and that if they cant tell they are being biggoted because you cant "pass" for part japanese. Their logic is bullshit. Or you could say that its your body and you will wear what you want and anyone that says a woman cant wear what she wants is part of the patriarchy and thats wrong. I understand how crazy the sjw people can be and how the mob mentality and agression is deterrant enough, its sweeping my uni in town pretty hard too.
>>9116043
No because Caucasian models don't usually wear costumes of Japanese middle and high school uniforms. Better to ask for some fatty white fujoshits and cosplayers, because I think they are the only ones dumb enough to take this seriously as a 'fashion'. Of course Japanese girls style their uniforms because they have to wear them. No reason to copy this. Oh, and Ladybeard? He can bite my ass. He looks terrible in it. Just a gimmick for fame-whoring.

Thanks for posting these. I think they look awkward because they go full nanchatte (never go full nanchatte). A shirt without a ribbon and monochrome plaid skirt would look less garish, but maintain the jks silhouette, which I assume is the fashion goal here. Also socks are too much.

>>9116043
Not really. Mostly because these uniforms are worn almost exclusively in Japanese primary or secondary schools meaning kids about 17 and younger. The only other place I've seen them outside a costume shop is in occasional jailbait type porn. Since this is an 18+ board, there aren't many adult people in the west who want to portray underage schoolgirls. Of that minority, fewer still will not look completely creepy trying to do so. So that's why there ar so few photos. I know some guys have a fetish to dress like this and be the little school girl but (and probably talk about it her) but that's also a not-so-popular minority and thankfully there are very few photos of actual attempts at that.
>>9110898
Not really much and many people think it's a little odd. Don't you think if more people really wore it there would be more photos like other cosplay things?
>>9116043
There are several photo shoots of cgl's queen wearing several kinds if you dare to search them by "(name) school uniform". NSFW.
>>9116444
There are non-Japanese who wear nanchatte. But it's a niche fashion in Japan, and even moreso here.
Nanchatte that doesn't involve sailor uniforms (like the one pictured) are similar to other uniform styles in other countries' schools, at it's basic. Button down shirt, pleated skirt, cardigan and/or blazer. What makes it Japanese are things like loose socks, the ribbon and the proportions of the clothing.
I know I'm wasting my time reply to low-tier bait with >>9116169 >>9116444 and >>9116564 but you are responding to people with legitimate questions about the fashion with disinfo. Nanchatte seifuku is specifically a fashion for women out of school, to "relive" their school days and wear their uniforms (that they had or didn't have) as they like.
>>9110898
I'm over 30 (I know, what the fuck am I even doing here) but I still wear it. My take on it however is a late Taisho early Showa kinda look which to most people just looks like retro fashion. I still occasionally wear more modern style uniforms to conventions etc. I reckon I can just about pull it off, kinda.

>>9116588

>>9116744
Fair enough. Skimmed the search results (most of which were 2010 and earlier) and most said that Japanese schoolgirls who don't have a school uniform want to wear a fake one for fake prestige reasons and that they aren't cheap costumes but rather expensive semi-custom things. Nothing at all (in 3 google page search by date) about grown western women wearing cheap costume-grade fake uniforms. So at the very least, quite uncommon in interest and not cheap in practice. Unlike what I'm seeing or reading here.
It seems creepy that older women here who say they DO wear them all have to immediately qualify it with "but I look young!!"

Why would it seem creepy? Makes sense to me that a younger looking person would be more comfortable wearing a young looking fashion, since they would pull it off better.
Also:
>But teenagers are not the only aficionados of the latest trend, as it seems to be slowly spreading to a potentially larger fan base of people in their 20s and 30s, who are described as “nanchatte kokosei (fake high schoolers).”
These emerging wannabes can be divided into two broad types: those obsessed with a happy past in the heyday of their adolescent youth, and those who did not have a great time and now want to experience adolescent romance, according to a 30-year-old college clerk in Tokyo, a self-proclaimed fake high schooler.
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/05/01/national/fake-school-uniforms-let-some-turn-back-the-clock/#.V5gEZTU_sSw
If you still don't understand how this might extend to Western women, let me explain this for you: many of us didn't have uniforms or they sucked/were fugly. Nanchatte is a chance to wear a cute outfit that you didn't get a chance to wear in high school. With so many being weebs/having at least some interest in Japan, it shouldn't be surprising that they might want to try a Japanese style (sailor) uniform. Sailor uniforms don't just have to be cheap costumes - those expensive stores like CONOMI sell seifuku too, you know. Wearing a skirt an inch or two above the knee, kneesocks, and a baggy top looks more cute and dorky than sexy schoolgirl. It really isn't that complicated anon.
Nanchatte treads were always so good, so wtf is with all the salt and trolling in this one anyway? jfc.

Can we have opinions on what the best nanchatte sailor fuku is? One that's actually passable as a real uniform (whether the Bodyline ones are is debatable), so that rules out most of the fetish fukus on ebay.

Does anyone know where to cop a Sukaban-ish seifuku? Like with the long skirts and kanji embroidery. I remember seeing pictures from a tapbao store but I lost the source.
I need help finding a specific skirt. I check through the spreadsheet but many of the websites I found are japanese or the skirts around $80-100+ and that's a little out of my budget. Depending on how busty you are it might be a pain to find one that fits, but a nice tailored blazer would probably look really good on you. Perhaps not quite nanchatte but you could go for the preppier kind of side of the fashion, as tighter tops are generally more that style.
A lot of nanchatte involves baggy tops (boxy blazers, loose cardigans and sweaters, etc.) So a lot of girls end up looking like a box anyway...not all of it is super flattering but it is cute I think. It just depends on what you're comfortable wearing.
>>9135806
I'm gonna hazard a guess that higher budget productions probably have dedicated stylists and such.
>>9135095
Pic related is some recent taobao/ae orders so that should give you an idea, but to be clear- my office is super lax and a lot of us dress casually. I wouldn't look twice at someone wearing jeans or leggings, for example.

I get you anon. Last year I spontaneously cut all my hair off. Little did I know I would look androgynous/boyish doing so. It made me feel so sad when I looked in the mirror wearing dresses and not feeling like I looked feminine because of it. Now that my hair is longer again a full year later, I feel more girly and look girly.
PS I dont have any advice for this besides wear darker clothes and a little bit darker makeup if you can pass it off on your skin tone. You can look sexy/badass that way until it starts growing out to a length that you can even do anything with your hair.
Posting some things from Conomi x My Melody.

Wow anon, I really like this collection. Great taste!
Anybody have any links to nanchatte skirts with a side pocket that aren't from Bodyline? Preferably solid colored. Seems like it should be easy to find but it hasn't been.
This is the best I've got so far but I'm wary that there are no reviews and not many sales: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Japanese-Summer-JK-Adjustable-waist-add-pocket-pleated-uniform-skirt-multicolor-High-temperature-pressure-pleated/32469444373.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.193.YTk6eK&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_7,searchweb201602_2_10017_10021_507_10022_10020_10009_10008_10018_10019_101,searchweb201603_2&btsid=7ab91837-43a8-45c5-a1a0-f00eb5772465

Im an hourglass and I look fine in mine. You aren't supposed to have super defined curves in a seifuku. What did you expect?
>>9135854
I'm an hourglass as well, putting a vest/cardigan on the outfit instantly fixes most of the boxy feeling. Shapely legs are also important to looking good in nanchatte- good legs with a boxy looking silhuotte just makes people think your figure is hidden in the clothes.
>>9138826
How are the plaid dresses in the right?
>>9121826
Super late but I think it's amavel or ank rouge
Also how do you guys wear blazers in real life? cardigans can get away with as general preppy with a cute twist but ns blazers are so boxy that they're obvioussly out of place in western countries
Where do you guys buy your cardigans? I've been struggling to find a good v neck cardigan that really fits the aesthetic without looking overseas. The fit is always slightly off.
Found an aliexpress listing that sells some of >>9127252 uniforms

>>9138826
Oh, I love all of this. Have you got a link to the tweed skirt on the right and the front-button dresses in the middle-right?
>>9146945
There's no reason why you can't wear a more fitted blazer, or even tailor it to fit you. It gives a really cute flared effect over the skirt if you do it right.
>>9146901
They're pretty good quality actually, especially considering they were only 13 yuan.

I'm not gonna be much help with those ones unfortunately, the two button dresses are from the Aus brand Dangerfield but aren't on the website anymore. And I should've taken the skirt off the picture, I never actually ended up getting it. It's out of stock so the store cancelled the order, but the item link is still available if you wanna try reverse searching or something http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Fashion-Women-Lolita-Skirts-Winter-Midi-Waist-Mini-Skater-Faldas-Pleated-Vintage-Plaid-Houndstooth-Woolen/32431594604.html

I sometimes get it at Uniqlo when it is on sale. There are cheap cardigans in those Asian clothing stores but they are usually very thin/bad quality. Otherwise I would get it on Taobao/Aliexpress.

yes I believe it's the same as waistcoat etiquette which has the same principle
I wish I had someone to wear seifuku with. Wearing the uniforms causally is fine, but sharing it with someone would surely be a lot more fun.
There doesn't happen to be someone from Germany around?

The mom was so cute! So nice to see even people over there out of their age range enjoying it too!
>>9149063
What's the fitting like on the dresses? The description says they're 80 in bust but I'm more like 82.
>>9153872
Don't bother, I'm about the same and they're way too tight. I knew it was likely when I bought them but I think they probably run small in general, they're tight around the arm hole too. It's too bad, I really liked them otherwise.
To anons who were nanchatte seifuku in real life, where do you wear it? I want to try wearing it at uni but I'm unsure if anyone will see it as too weeby/cultural appropriation.
>>9154508
What a disappointment. Do you think you could mod them into pinafores?
>>9155166
>cultural appropriation
What, of uniform styles that Japan "appropriated" from Europe? Pretty strange when you consider that. Chances are some of your peers probably will find it weeby but guess what? You are a weeb, you're on this board and in this thread, so best embrace it as long as you're not a total sperglord. I live in London so I don't have any issues just wearing it out and because school uniforms are prevalent here, people just assume I'm a pupil at secondary school or 6th Form. I wear toned down preppy nanchatte at college though; I would definitely get wierd looks if I wore say a sailor uniform to college.
>>9155189
Thanks anon, I guess I'm just a little worried about things with sailor collar or if it would look really weird compared to most girls in sweats+legging. I'm from Boston, and the few schools with uniforms here look pretty bleh and not at all cute.
Would you say "toned down preppy nanchatte" is blouse + skirt + tie + cardigan, or can you add a blazer on top?
>>9155240
Probably inspo,
Any Americans ever worn nanchatte in public? I imagine people would either be very ignorant or just think you attend a private catholic school.
>>9154312
I LOVE the grey onepiece uniform with the white collar. Has anyone ever seen anything similar available to purchase?
>>9155359
Not exactly the same, but some brand sells more traditional school dress styles like pic realted. Some past anon dumped the pic so they might know the original brand
>>9157188

Just wear it.
I want to wear nanchatte, but since I study Japanese my uni is already weebland and since some of my teachers are Japanese I don't want them to think I'm stupid or disrespectful or anything, what do ? I'm not into the sailor collar ones tho, just the regular button down/plaid skirt/sweater thing
>>9157190
>>9157188
Thanks anon! Google is telling me these are from Felissimo's Sukiyaki line. Has anyone ever ordered directly from Felissimo from the US?
>>9159274
Honestly you could probably get away with that as preppy style which isn't really weeby unless you're going for obviously Japanese elements
>>9159274
Wore plaid skirt + blazer to Japanese class. Prof said it reminded her of a school uniform and said I was very cute.
It might depend on your prof. But I definitely got nothing but compliments from her on my clothes.
>>9159274
I often wear nanchatte to Japanese classes and nobody ever comments on it. Though I usually skip on the ribbons to make it look less "weeby". Like the other anon said, it really just looks preppy then.
>>9159331
>Felissimo
I tried finding these on the website and didn't find anything. I'm in love with this seal pillowcase I found instead, though.

Lol wut? It's not some kind of indian feather headress or religious artifact. It's a casual school uniform. No culture has ever objected to a foreigner adopting their local informal fashion styles.

>>9169459
Starting up my nanchatte wardrobe. I plan to buy some different ties from eBay, loafers locally (because shipping those is a bitch), and thrift some cardigans.
Left is my favorite, the right is probably what I'll end up getting the most wear out of. The middle one might be cheap looking, but if it is I plan to use it for a slightly inaccurate Yandere-chan cosplay.
Question about plain brown loafers- are they ever worn casually in Japan, as in not part of nanchatte or a school uniform?
I have a pair and they are so goddamn comfortable, plus they match almost everything so they're ideal for traveling. I'm going to Japan soon but I don't wanna wear them if it'll look silly or frumpy. I'm not gonna be wearing nanchatte and I don't know if it'd be noticeably dorky to wear school shoes without a uniform, it probably would be with my country's school shoes.

She is YURA, a Harajuku-kei model and a cosplayer.
I don't know why her skin condition is so good. She always eats Ramen and stays up.
I love the combination of school uniforms and machine guns.
