What is your favorite old school coord and why?

I have always loved shiro and this one has the special feel. I just love the poofy skirt and bloomers. Maybe one day I'm able to do a nice shiro coordinate myself.

Oh man, this is beautiful. I'd love to make a coord similar to this! Thanks for sharing anon

There's something about oldschool that gives it a real 1970s feeling to me, and I'm not sure what it is. Probably the abundance of white lace combined with the small flower prints and gingham patterned dresses, with a side of platforms and inventive details. It's not a bad thing at all but it seems to give it a little more of an associated frumpiness/country look that's been lost in modern lolita.

Does anyone still regularly wear old school lolita?
>>
>>9107196
Depends on what you mean by old school. I dress in what would be considered pre-OTT sweet and it gives off a very old school sweet vibe. I was never a big fan of modern Lolita trends and I prefer non prints to print dresses, though I have a couple. I wear socks and my favorite ones are the kind topped with lace, no tights, and don't wear chiffon like a lot of people do now. I almost always match my blouse to my lace. Don't wear wigs. Prefer wearing a neutral colored shoe but I do own a couple pastel shoes.

I'd like some really old old-school stuff eventually.
>>
>>9107196
I'm kinda like >>9107290, mostly 2005-2007 era sweet and most of my dresses are from that time. I have some modern lolita stuff too but some of it is old styled like Meta's engineer boots or my most recent purchase Baby's Snow Dot jsk which remainds me of Dessert op. I have few modern prints too but like... 3? I used to wear lolita daily when I was school but now I have been on forced vacation since Februari I have had to cut it down. It's just so impractical to wear it just home here because I have to go everywhere with car, no cafes etc in 20 kilometers from here and roads are so bad I can't walk them with lolita shoes most of the time. It's super frustrating.
>>
>>9107196
I don't wear lolita regularly in general but I do have an exclusively old school wardrobe. I like some modern lolita stuff but it just doesn't suit me.

Yes, me. I wear both modern and old school sweet. A few girls in my comm occasionally wear old school, too. But I wear it about as much as more modern lolita. Baby currently has their classical series, which is old school styled, so I assume there's a demand for it.

Thanks for the responses! About half of the main pieces in my wardrobe are old school from around 2000-2005-ish, but I don't really know that many people who are into that style or wear it semi-regularly. My comm is super into new releases and taobao and desu I think a lot of them don't really know what old school is. I do follow a few other people on tumblr who wear it though, and of course I browse the old school threads here.

>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
I like the more wearable and simple aestethic of it. New lolita is most of the time very over the top. I also like the designs focusing in beautiful detailing such as lace rather than flashy prints. Also, even sweet in old school looks like something old and I like it. I still like newer lolita and sometimes dress in it but most of the time old school is just my thing somehow.
>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
The styling and attitude: it's like a lifestyle. I don't mean being like a princess all the time but enjoying pretty things and taking the time to do lolita. Therefor it's not so matchy-matchy but has "the" feeling for me.
>best thing about the dresses themselves?
The lace, the details, quality... I love the variety of designs and cuts. I can't quite put it in words but they have the certain charm new dresses don't.
>what do you like the least about old school?
I don't like the oldest of old school, I want my style still to be clearly lolita. Also while old school head accessories are usually easy to weaf I can't bring myself to wear rectangel headdresses to school. They feel a bit weird in such a casual environment. Also yellowing etc in lace and the fabric, old blouses starting to smell immediately you put them on...

its what i first fell in love with, it has that little delicate maiden magical feel that i feel that lolita has lost a bit now. its also more simple and thus more wearable

>why do you like old school? Do you like modern Lolita as well?
It was the fashion I "grew up" with, so to me, it's the definition of Lolita. It's what I fell in love with. I like looking at modern Lolita, but it's nothing I'm interested in wearing. Modern Lolita is very elaborate and over the top, and feels more like a costume. Old school seemed to place more importance on Lolita being a subculture than it does now. I also like that old school was more related to other subcultures, it was started by the hippy scene and then as it evolved, became tied in with the gothic scene. I wear Lolita outfits that are somewhere in between old school and modern.

>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
Everything! To name something specific, I like that old school had less pressure to look perfect. Looking flawless and perfectly matched wasn't as big of a deal. There was more freedom to experiment. It was more wearable and realistic. Imperfect outfits often had a striking look to them, I liked that sweet but poisonous concept.

>best thing about the dresses themselves?
The lace. Also, prints were simple. Applique and embroidery was more common. It was more Victorian and fairy-tale like than modern Lolita.

>what do you like the least about old school?
(besides the fact it's so misunderstood and sometimes called "ita") The only thing I can think of is that sometimes outfits would be a bit too weird or mismatched, or would be so ambiguous that wether or not it was Lolita was debatable (think Moon Kana's stuff). But I HATE to say that because that's the beauty of it, too. That freedom to color outside the lines a bit. That's the fun part of alternative fashions. Even the bad looking outfits were charming and cute in their own way.

I first looked into lolita specifically because of old school.
I didn't think of it as something I could get into, but after some time of not paying attention to the fashion, and coming back into it during the OTT sweet height, I paid much more attention to Classic and Gothic. Now that I have some newer pieces, I've started drifting into a real love affair for older pieces, and I've been hunting old Meta abominations for some time now. As much as I love the traditional style, there was definitely less of a western audience then, so pretty much none of the pieces I've seen in my price range would fit.

Does anyone know of or have a guide to 'modern' oldschool? Brands that have an older vibe with new production? Style tips for using new pieces for a more combined look?
I really want Oldschool to make a comeback.

Reposting one of my favorites.

Would you buy new productions of oldschool pieces?

>>
>>9110164
>http://www.strawpoll.me/10804794
I answered yes, any brand, and I would love to see new productions of old school pieces, but my answer heavily depends on the price of the item. I wouldn't pay $300 for a new dress when I can get one second hand for $100.

Of course, I don't have a lot of money to spend on Lolita, so someone who has a bigger fund for it (or if I had more money to put into it) would probably find the convenience of being able to buy new and direct from the store worth the cost.
>>
>>9110164
Yes, and I've done it before. Thank you, BtSSB classical series.
>>
>>9110164
I'd buy from Innocent World, or JetJ, but that's about it, and only if JetJ's construction was up to par again.

Then again, I'm more interested in the history of the fashion than actually wearing most old school. I'm really only into pieces that are heavy on pintucks or embroidery.

>>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
I like pretty almost all styles and eras of lolita to varying degrees, but there's something really special about old school. Perhaps it's because I discovered lolita towards the end of the old school era via FRUiTS.

>>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
Everything! The attitude that it is a street fashion and so should not need to be absolutely neatly matching, I think the imperfections are what make some old school coords really great. I also love a lot of the features that aren't so popular today such as the chunky shoes and gobelin dresses.

>>best thing about the dresses themselves?
The focus on the details, how some of them can be a perfect mixture of frumpy and cute, plus so many detachable bits

>>what do you like the least about old school?
There really isn't much I don't like about old school, I don't much like the popular minimal makeup look on myself.
>>
>>9108198
>>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?

I think it has to do with that oldschool is a lot more simple in design than lolita nowadays. I like some modern prints and designs, but it mostly seems so attention grabby.

>>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
oldschool gives me a nostalgic feel, plus it doesn't feel as if I'm dressing for the likes, but more for the looks.

>>best thing about the dresses themselves?
the variety in design, it has so much more details than modernday dresses.

>>what do you like the least about old school?
that it's sometimes difficult to find the info on a piece. plus they often used ebroidery cotton lace, and I'm not really fond of that
>>
>>9110146
I was thinking about making a guide on that as well as one on the oldschool look (at least what it is in 2016, cotton lace vs tulle, materials, details etc) since I see so many people failing it on cof. Since there's interest I should probably get to it.
>>
>>9108198
>why do you like old school?
I love the clean and simple lines, the clean, clear, simple look of it. I love simple prints; none of the sugary "little-girl" prints of today. It seems like it's a fashion with a statement about expression, whereas a lot of the time, especially with OTT sweet or classic of late, I get the feeling that outfits are more like costumes than anything else. I dig the "realness," the "grittiness" of oldschool looks.

>Do you like post old school as well?
As long as looks are simple or elegant, sure. I have tried to like OTT - and I understand how some people could go in for it - but I just can't.

>what's your favorite thing about old school?
The attitude? The styling?
Both. The attitude seems fierce, collected, steady, cool. As I said - a true fashion statement. Not just a flashy trend. But I'm attracted to the simple lines of the look. I'm attracted to the look overall.

>best thing about the dresses themselves?
They're all well-made. They seem sturdier, somehow. Not so "cheapened." But that's something you can see in any fashion, I would argue. Sometimes some clothing just LOOKS as if it were mass-produced in a factory. Sometimes, fashion manages to look unique. I find that uniqueness more often in older images of the Lolita fashion.

>what do you like the least about old school?
The fact that some oldschool is labeled as "ita" nowadays. Sometimes it IS ita, however; sometimes girls will attempt the oldschool look but something's off, something's just too modern-looking.
>>
>>
>>9108198
>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?

i like old school because it's what i found in late 2005 when i was a baby edgelord. it looks more like street fashion to me and feels a bit more wearable (more cottons and sturdy fabrics instead of chiffons and prints, lower amount of poof, natural hair that might not be 100% perfectly in place, colors don't 100% match). i like post-old school as well.

>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?

my favorite thing is how the attitude translates onto the styling. a lot of the old street snaps have girls looking really pissed off ("don't touch me, i will kick the shit out of you with these platforms"). someone pointed out on another old school thread that the fashion was a lot more subversive and a strong statement than now (i think the quote was "it's cramped here, but you are going to deal with my petticoat and frills because this space is mine"). looking pretty/elegant/cute gets kind of boring compared to the kind of energy you get from old school.

>best thing about the dresses themselves?

the lace detailing and textures used

>what do you like the least about old school?

sometimes the charming frumpiness becomes too frumpy or the experimentation becomes kind of unrecognizable as lolita. wrinkle-prone blouses and heavy fabrics that don't work too well where i live.

Trying if Meta tag anon is still around. I posted in the last thread about this Meta dress I bought which is kinda old schoolish and discovered the exact same cut from 2005. Search didn't bring anything else. My dress is the red one and it has the same white tag my other dresses from ~2007 (Gingham cherry & Pintuck tiered) have. I can take a pic of it later, but I'm just wondering if they used the cut later or is it from the same year.

I'm not the person you asked, but for what it's worth, per https://web.archive.org/web/20050723020202/http://www.metamorphose.gr.jp/m-new.htm

On 2005.04.28 they released
スカラップ襟取り外しジャンパースカート(水玉)(黒水玉)(赤水玉)(水色水玉)
スカラップ襟取り外しジャンパースカート(フロッキー)(黒)(白)(ピンク)を追加

Removable Scalloped Collar JSK - polka dot (black polka dot) (red polka dots) (light blue polka dot)
Removable Scalloped Collar JSK - flocky (Black) (White) (Pink)

So, my best guess is that they came out side by side? But I'm not a meta expert, and I don't actually know what the tags mean.
>>
>>9111831
It's hard to tell, they've reused cuts before and it would seem likely that they did for this one. They started using that new tag at the end of 2002, early 2003, so there wouldn't be a difference between the 2005 and later tags. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you, but until based RD shows up with the lolibrary updates, there's really no way to know which year it's from exactly (unless someone else digs up that info).

>>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
The simplicity, the silhouette, the other-worldliness. I really have to build up my courage to wear it in public. But I love the look, it still excites me like modern can't. Post is okay, Iw is my jam but it's become so mundane that it's barely recognizable from its past glory, it's now better suited for casual. I get bored looking at coords on instagram. I couldn't give a shit about the latest automatic honey release, or having the in-moment sparkly holy twinkle whatever.

>>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
The styling for sure. I feel like the attitude oozes out of the clothing, old school feels way more like armor, like a barrier. Modern ott is a please look at me while old school kinda gives off this don't give a shit what the fuck you looking at vibe, and I think that works for me.

>>best thing about the dresses themselves?
The velvet! All I ever want to collect are solid black velvet pieces forever, they do it for me like no other! Fall couldn't get here soon enough!

>>what do you like the least about old school?
The sizing can be so tiny, especially the skirts, I silently weep for the pieces I'll never have the experience of wearing. I'm really not big on the shoes either, I think it's different because I'm older and don't really care, I have no shame about mixing modern with old for the sake of comfort.
>>
>>9108198
>why do you like old school?
The platforms! I also like the simpler styling and hairstyles. Also mini top hats and mini crowns.
>Do you like post old school as well?
Definitely. 2007-2010 era lolita was more my thing than proper old school, that's when I got into lolita and consequently when most of my favourite dresses were released. I'm not really an OTT sweet person though - more about gothic and the 2007-10 sweet that wasn't old school but not quite so OTT either.
>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
Definitely the attitude.
>best thing about the dresses themselves?
The sizing. I'm 80cm bust/63cm waist and short - old school sizing generally fits like a dream and tea length wasn't really a thing then (except Meta's Cat Door JSK, which I was eternally disappointed by)
>what do you like the least about old school?
Rectangle headdresses, detachable sleeves, less poof, and when it gets too frumpy.

I think you could put together an old school aristocrat-ish outfit with that anon, it's beautiful.

Cream/ white rectangle headdress with matching deep burgundy roses either side would be gorgeous, cream/white tights with white/cream shoes with a slight platform, blouse with big lacy collar, maybe a matching burgundy bow at the neck or a subtle but distinctive gold necklace - a cross or crown.

I know it might not be strictly old school but I think adding a touch of 70s romance could really work and would still in my opinion, be in the spirit of old school and early otome. You could add matching burgundy roses to the sides of a rectangle headdress as well perhaps, to really pull it all together.

Have any of you done recent purchases? I managed to grab some oldschool stuff from Yahoo Japan recently.
(Also, these are seller pics which are kinda frumpy, and pic's from Lolibrary. I will take pictures myself when I receive the items!)

From top to bottom:
>Baby the Stars Shine Bright Floral Lace Princess Skirt (2004)
>Angelic Pretty Sweet Berry Skirt (2006)
According to the seller the skirt is worn and it has a stain on the waist tie's lace. I hope the knitted cherries and strawberries are still intact.
>Baby the Stars Shine Bright Velveteen Lace A-Line JSK (2001) And an undefined headdress.
I'm especially excited about this one. The seller stated that the waist tie is missing but it includes a headdress (which is Baby, but I can't find it's name and from which year it is). The JSK is 15 years old and it's clear to see it's early lolita. I really wonder what it'll look like once I have it.

>>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
I like it because it's clunky, wearable, and cheap to buy secondhand. I don't post much, but when I do, it's old school.

>>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
Wearability and boldness. I'm not a subtle person, and I like black on white contrasts, crazy hair, and chunky shoes. I like the elegant parts, too, but they don't work on me.

Even my sweet stuff has a street punk feel to it, rather than the ethereal chiffon hothouse violet look that seems popular now, or the genki manic pixie dream girl disney hoarder look from 2011.

>>best thing about the dresses themselves?
Quality. Everything I own has sturdy, soft fabric, a full lining, and cotton lace. Most things also have pockets, built in pettis, or both.

>>what do you like the least about old school?
It's easy to find old school designs, but if you want a specific piece that hasn't been re-released every year since '08, you'll search for ages.
>>
Old school is so much more interesting and creative. Lolita has to many restrictions now, you girls are preventing yourselves from evolution by tying yourselves down. Stop fearing that you are going to be posted as an ita online.
>>
>>9121136
I find myself becoming tired of Lolita for that very reason. I just don't care anymore, it's so restrictive and critical that I find my normie fashion way more interesting.
>>
>>9120355
That JSK looks lovely! I adore the simplicity in oldschool lolita, instead of the busy prints we have nowadays. The Baby skirt indeed is going to be a pain to iron but I'll do it with pleasure, haha.

>>9120368
Such lovely lace, the combination with velveteen is to die for <3 Good luck with cleaning it!

>>9120519
Those are lucky gets! I'm also not familiar with the pictured AP tag. Is it from when they just switched to 'Angelic Pretty' from 'Pretty'?

>>9121136
>Lolita has to many restrictions now
I honestly feel as if you have to coord a new print with the matching OTK's, headwear, accessories etc to look good, or else you'll end up looking like a mess.
Oldschool lolita has more freedom when it comes to coording, but I indeed do fear being called ita lacemonster if I ever post something.
>>
>>9121136
Agreed, but honestly cgl is partly to blame for that mentality.
>>
>>9121136
I feel like the whole concept of "ita" is a monster that the GLB, brands, lolitas in the east and west, and figureheads like Misako have pushed so hard that it's now out of control.
>>
>>9121315
no one just has an off coord now. You're title an ita for any small mistake.
>>
>>9121275
I believe so, I found an old LJ post talking about some of the different tags and that was one of them. The headdress has the same tag, so I assume it must be decently old. AP seems to have changed their tag a lot back in the day. I couldn't find the headbow with the ties on lolibrary either, but the seller's description said something about it being in storage for 9 years, and it has the AP tag with the crown between the words. I'm very excited to get them into my actual hands soon!
>>
>>9120777
I actually got it in hopes it will go nicely with my Nameless Poem OP maybe, since NP is also quite toned down in terms of detail. If irl it doesn't go the way I planned tho I'm sure I'll find plenty of use for it in other coords!
>>
>>9121385
If I remember right, they switched to that tag after "Pretty" and to the crown between letters one after that around.. 2003? I have a minihat from 2002 with the tag pictured and an op with the crown one from 2005.
>>
>>9121520
That helps a lot to pinpoint about when this stuff is from then, ty so much!
>>
>>9121323
Yup. Ita has been tainted. I see less actual itas in the threads nowadays and more girls that have decent coords with just a few details off. Lots of vendetta.
>>
Antique Beast is open right now and this OP is driving me crazy; it's so perfect to me and has such a good oldschool feel, especially with that lovely cross on the front and the sleeve lace/detail.

Pls, someone get it and let me live through you. I can't do an 85cm bust, so I'll have to drool from afar.

http://a-beast.ocnk.net/product/397
>>
>>9121520
I believe you're exactly correct on those dates. I know there was a discussion in the oldschool lolita fb group about tag dates and people were contributing photos with info. What you've stated lines up perfectly well with what everyone has said and contributed there.
>>
>>9121136
>A few years ago I was talking with a lolita that I respect a lot.
>I mentioned that I really loved old-school styles.
>The headdresses, clunky shoes, black and white coords, the whole shebang.
>" ... Anon, that sounds pretty ita".
>I was heartbroken at the time.
>Now I wear what I like and get nothing but compliments.
>>
>>9121315
Calling things "ita" is mostly Western, just like we've incorrectly glommed on to using "kodona" for ouji. Have you ever seen Japanese publications (Kera/Glb), brands, or models use "ita"? Nope
>>
>>9123299
I feel your pain, I love it, it's a good price and it would fit, but my goddamn car needs repairing. I just want to be wealthy maiden
>>
>>9123355
iirc the term "ita" came from a 2ch thread translation from way back when. and regardless of whether or not it's japanese in origin, it's not the kind of word that would be used in official publications, much like western fashion magazines wouldn't refer to fat people as landwhales, or ugly people as butterfaces.
>>
>>9123299
They can make it bigger if you ask
>>
>>9123355
>>9123454

2009 here. I can remember /cgl/ searching for a term to describe badly dressed lolita's, and the term 'ita' came up from dividing the word 'Lolita' into 'LOL! Ita!' to be used as 'Lol, that's so ita!'. As far as I know it doesn't have to do anything with a Japanese term for pain, or painfully to look at,
So I'd say the term Ita originated here, on /cgl/.
>>
>>9123778
That word has been used in English speaking lolita communities since before /cgl/ even existed. Nice deduction though.
>>
>>9123355
I thought the origin of ita was just from the japanese word "itai" for painful. So, an ita bag is kind of painful in that it can be "awful" to look at or cringy and a lace monster is painful in that it's "icky" looking. It's gone so far away from a simple comment to some ruler we measure every coord by.
>>
>>9108198
>>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
I love old school. Even though I never really became a lolita, old school gothic was what introduced me to lolita fashion in the first place. Back then it wasn't "old school" of course but the hottest shit there was. It gives me nostalgia and still looks amazing.

I do like post OC lolita too, but it more often than not looks like a costume to me, way too OTT and it somehow seems to piss into its own shoe by looking like a costume while claiming it's not. Don't get me wrong, current lolita (even OTT) looks amazing, but it feel really superficial to me.

>>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
Attitude, which includes everything else. OC is somehow more effortless and it still manages to stand out from general fashion to its benefit. I love the usage of natural or dyed hair instead of wigs, the "I don't care what you think what so ever, I wear whatever the fuck I want be it a scratchy lace dress or a maxi pad on my head"-attitude and how it still manages to look fabulous.

To me, old school jfashion in general was more free. No nitpicking rules about everything matching and going by the book, it was expression at its fullest. The point was to rebel against the "dress code" and while sub-styles had recognizable traits to them, everybody was free to interpret the style of their choice how they wanted.

>>best thing about the dresses themselves?
Simplicity and at times great materials like velvet and lace. The possibilities to combine things together for a cool look, I don't know, there just can't be enough velvet, unsymmetrical hemlines and ribbons.

>>what do you like the least about old school?
The occasional horrible materials and probably the "baby"-ish look of OC sweet lolita. But that's it I guess.
>>
>>9123778
>>9123892 is right. See also "ita-sha" or "painful cars", which were basically itabags in car form.
>>
>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
I feel it is very iconic. Don't post it usually.

>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
The attitude of wearing what ever you want.

>best thing about the dresses themselves?
Ease of wear

>what do you like the least about old school?
I remember back in the golden days, I saw lolita fashion in the glb and wished it was nicer quality or the cut was more flattering? Especially for gothic style of lolita.
>>
What's making oldschool popular again? Backlash from OTT?
>>
>>9125447
That's actually quite interesting. I'm quite new and only got into lolita when the OTT sweet phase was on it's last legs so I don't have that much information how old school was or was it even discussed. I have pretty much read through everything in my local comms old forum which stopped being active around 2013 and they very rarely spoke about old school. Around a year ago it started to gain more popularity and it was when I realised it's my thing and what I'm aiming for. Maybe it's what you say, more people wanting to get a break from OTT and voicing that side of lolita, maybe it's nostalgia. A lot of gulls in this thread seem to be old fags who have been in the fashion a long time either just doing what they have been doing always or transitioning to their roots.

Should we make a poll to see why people are into old school pr something?
>>
>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
I love how wearable it is, even with harder to care for fabrics (velvet, cotton lace). It really looks like an alt fashion, moreso than modern lolita. I do still like it tho, I have some prints as well, but most of those are from around 2007.
>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
Both! I love the creepy but pretty doll vibe oldschool has.
>best thing about the dresses themselves?
The amount of velvet (I LOVE velvet) and the detailed lace and embroidery.
>what do you like the least about old school?
That everyone wears black and white nowadays. It's nice, but there's so much more to the style than just that. I even had a friend who wasn't aware oldschool was possible in colors other than black and white.
>>
>>9126232
>a friend who wasn't aware oldschool was possible in colors other than black and white
yipes. The resurgence does seem to be very much directed to the black and white look, but still. Some of my favourite old school velvet pieces are dark green and bordeaux with white lace.
>>
>>9125447
Probably the same reason why 90's inspired fashion is trendy now. It got old enough to be "vintage" instead of just outdated. The same thing is happening to OTT sweet now too.
>>
>>9120519
WOAH, that top left headbow is old!
It's this, BTW: http://lolibrary.org/apparel/large-white-lace-ribbon-headband
>>
>>9127845
Same, anon. Those Meta dresses in dark green, mmm.
>>
Anyone else tired of lolita in general? I think I'm about ready to sell off my stuff and just keep some of my old school velvet pieces, I just don't really care anymore and it feels like a waste of money and closet space. None of the releases excite me, I find most coord pics on cof a little embarassing, I guess I'm just not feeling it anymore.
>>
>>9125447
Modern style is too fucking fragile, I'm tired of my expensive AP and baby chiffon prints getting damage from one wear
>>
Did my post get deleted? I'm lusting after this red plaid meta oldschool set but can't decide if it looks bad or is just more alt looking than I'm used to. Need help deciding, I bought a couple modern prints today that I shouldn't have
>>
>>9129590
I feel like I was better off when I wore lolita as a lone lolita and never looked at online communities.

If I feel I look good thats all I care about, I mean I always try to stay true to the "rules", but im not going to die if my pinks dont match perfectly or I wore solid tights when something else might be "better"

All the people that are too strict bother me and if I let them dictate what I coord than I would be tired of lolita fast.

There are tons of prints coming out that I love, but not really in burando flavors, and I dont care at all, I love my indie dresses and I consider anything that can make me feel good about how i look not a waste of money or space, but I also tend to wear lolita more daily than not.
>>
>>9129607
The more I see printed tights with printed dresses, the more I want to sell all my stuff that isn't oldschool. So many coords are just tacky print and accessory overload nowadays
>>
>>9129605
You posted in a different thread. I guess it might be a challenge to coord but if you really like it get it. It's definitely not horrid as other anon said rather interesting.
>>
>>9129770
I Absolutely hate printed tights. I love simple patterned socks which might not even belong to any particular print but those tights are Just so busy and often super detailed so you can't really see the detailed. Everything is just about busy prints and those fucking tights, where are my applique and embroidery stuff with cute socks and beautifully detailed cotton lace? I have to give credit to Baby tho, their new sailor op was super cute and old schoolish but the hem was so odd. However, no cute old school accessories anywhere.
>>
>>912329
Ive been drooling over that op for longest time top, anon! One day!
>>
>>9129967
I feel like a lot of people get too excited over the 'lolita' aspect and forget basic rules of fashion and coordination. I've seen some good pieces ruined by girls who want to wear everything at once when maybe simple tights and a boring blouse look great on a more detailed skirt
>>
>>9107138
dat reacton image, haha
>>
>>9129964
Thank you! I didn't realize there was more than one oldschool thread active right now, that's awesome. I was getting a bit tired of wearing lolita until I started buying oldschool
>>
>>9108198
>>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
probably because it's what got me into the lolita aesthetic in the first place -- i think old school is a lot more punk, too. i like new lolita pieces, but i feel as though what constitutes a good coord has changed to be more restrictive.
>>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
like i said, it gives off a more "punk" vibe, it's pretty irreverent when you think about it -- you can look cute and striking at the same time. there was certainly an air of "i don't give a fuck", haha.

the styling is a lot more casual, simple (and thus more wearable) as well --girls forgo the petti, platform shoes are a staple, boots, blocky high heels, regular mary janes, rhs, plus the make-up is either very toned down or dramatic esp. when it comes to lipstick choices are usually very bold, rather than demure. i also like peeking bloomers.

>>best thing about the dresses themselves?
the lace, silhouettes & their simplicity. also, i don't know, they also seem a lot more sturdier.

>>what do you like the least about old school?
doll ringlet wigs. i don't mind them on other people, i just don't like to think about the possibility of wearing one myself.
>>
I'm thinking about trying out old school, are there any places that sell the appropriate blouses new? I know about Baby's classical series, not sure about anything else.
>>
>>9140379
Anna House is only good I can really think about. All my good old school blouses are used brand.
>>
>>9107126
I am so confused. The white part looks like a pinafore but the reflection doesn't show apron straps. Is this one dress or maybe a dress over another one?
>>
>>9140409
Probably an overdress as you said. Would use the hell out of that or similar.
>>
>>9140403
anna house is quite cheap quality.
>>
>>9140409
>>9140475
Looked again and it could be an apron with super thick straps. You can see a glimpse of the yellow dress' pattern from the back and you can't tell if it's closed from the back or not.
>>
>>9140478
Depends, really. I think they used to be worse but the pieces I have seen recently were not worse than Bodyline. If used brand is not an option is hard to find as good quality anywhere else because old school brand is sometimes even higher quality than today's brand. But you are right, I should have mentioned that AH's quality is not the best.

I think I have an apron from meta like that. It's like 2/3 a dress that's done up by waist ties and almost closes at the top.
>>
>>9140503
* unless that one has a full waist band like a skirt and just really wide pinafore straps. It may be different to mine.
>>
Best place for shoes? I'm looking for a mary jane style, how good is antaina?
>>
>>9142230
I have 2 pairs of antaina, they are less stiff than bodyline, but the clasps feel a bit flimsy and they vary greatly in sizing
>>
>>9142230
>>9142241
As other anon said, Antaina can be a little bit less quality than BL, but their designs are more detailed and shoes a bit comfier. Both do replicas tho. I haven't used Bodyline as much as Antaina but atleast my Antaina ones have survived 2 years of frequent use and are still going. They have scuffs, but that's a problem with BL too.

These were lovely! Thank you for sharing.

And a question.
>Where do you share your old school coords? How do you find other people's old school coords? Or do you follow coord pics at all?
>>
>>9108198
>why do you like old school? Do you like post old school as well?
Those were some of the very first lolita fashion photos I saw, even though I first heard about it in 2012.
>what's your favorite thing about old school? The attitude? The styling?
I love how there's no pressure to be matchy-matchy at all, yet old school is still very effortless. It's also not as feminine as modern lolita.
>best thing about the dresses themselves?
They're simple yet distinct! Don't get me wrong, I have modern lolita pieces as well. However, now these days, I feel like brands spend way too much time designing prints that end up looking almost all the same anyway when viewed from a distance. Same goes for OTT lolita - sometimes there's so much going on in the coord that there's not really one distinct detail that stands out. Therefore, the coord gets ultimately washed out.

I also like how it's way more wearable in public than a lot of modern lolita.
>what do you like the least about old school?
It doesn't get as much love as modern lolita, and some people still think it's ita.
>>

Get things altered. For reversible stuff, like a new tier or ruffles or adding a new pair of shoulder straps, I just do it myself. Anything permanent like letting out shirring or taking something in I get professionally done.

Depending on the skirt design you could probably let the waist out a bit without making too much of a difference, especially if the waistband is shirred. Alternatively you could convert it into a bustle skirt.
>>
>>9156375
I have luckily smaller bust and normal waist (around 68cm and 85cm) and it wouldn't be bad for me to loose a few kilograms, so garments actually fitting haven't been a huge problem. Some skirts can be snug but I could try and replace the hooks. Usually I just wear a blouse that covers the waist or something. The biggest problem is how I get the skirts past my huge ass.

The worst thing for me is the items I will never be able to have. Sounds really pathetic and materialistic but sometimes I feel kinda bad when I look trough my old school folders. The clothes are just so perfect but yet I can't never have most of them.

This is so fantastically, obviously, inarguably exemplary of Lolita to me. Dat contrasting white lace, dat fabric, those ribbons, dat corset lacing, dat ladder lace... Then you look at say Juliette et Justine or things that are just normie besides a print slapped on it and think is this actually supposed to be the same fashion?!

Thank you both! As a bonus I managed to dig out pics with Mana wearing it. Let the chill come because I'm almost ready (Except shoes, I'm in dire need of shoes)

I can't get over how lovely this. Hopefully when I'm older I will be able to pull off aristo. Thank you for sharing anon! I hope I see you wearing it some day.
>>
I didn't like black with white trim for the longest time and I'm just now starting to warm up to it but it still requires a good balance of 70/30 for me too like it, and preferably velvet
>>
>>9156581
If you like it, why wait until your older to do aristo? It's not just for older people. Hell I'm 23, not particularly old.
>>
>>9157192
I don't know, I have a terrible case of babyface and have been kinda thinking that I might as well enjoy sweet while I can do so comfotably and later when I feel like it I will probably move towards more mature styles. I have already tried to pick up gothic and even aristovibes but something always has me to go back to sweet no matter how much I enjoy myself in it. It's like I want it to happen naturaly and not force it?

Anyway, to stay in the topic, what kind of autumn/winter clothes are best in old school? Velveteen obviously, but what kind of coats, shoes etc. you gyus have? Going to a picknick in the coming weekend and thinking what to wear beacuse it can be cold.
>>
>>9157830
Capes and capelets were more popular than coats for a while back there, whether wool, cloth or furry and ridiculous.
>>
Anyone have more close-up, or makeup pics?

I have an oldschool Baby OP with crochet lace trim and when I bought it I noticed the lace was a bit yellow in spots. Any ideas on spot cleaner? The dress itself is velvet so I can't exactly wash it.
>>
>>9158165
I have used gall bladder soap of whatever that shit is in English to clean that kind of stuff. You have to do it to all lace tho and you will only see if it worked after the thing has dried. Of course you need water but you don't have to like rinse the whole thing. If it's due to age it's not likely going to help but idk if nothing is.
>>
>>9158165
Make a paste out of baking soda and water and leave it on the spots for a couple hours and then wash normally

hi, I'm not a lolita so I doesn't got some super good taste, I'm still lurking, but I have to draw a character for a story, and it's a lolita. It's have to be a old school gothic lolita with really good tastes, so I want to know, for you, what is the most beauty full gothic lolita old school dress?
>>
>>9157830
I picked up a few blazers for old school jm style and I'd like to possibly get a coat this year but I'm not sure about ordering a big bulky thing like that, I imagine the s&h is insane.

I love blazers and jackets! I think coats haven't really changed that much during years so you can probably get a quite nice plain one from your continent pretty easily. I have an AP and f+f ones and the style is pretty similar. I also have a shorter super furry AP coat which is actually pretty similar to the one Till Lindemann is used to wear. I also have a HMHM short coat. I'm a sucker to coats. I just love them and especially all the old school style appliques.

I think they are kinda back..? Old school is kinda popular atm and people ask frequently where to get those.
>>
>>9159063
They're cute but whenever I see those I just wonder how anyone keeps the fur white

I am so excited and I honestly can't believe I actually nabbed this dress for so cheap, but I finally got the Nun Thierry op! I am seriously just a ball of excitement and so glad to obtain my first dream dress!
>>
>>9163047
that is gorgeous anon, it's got a real timeless look about it. Hell, it looks like it should be in a fashion museum.
>>
>>9164180
Im telling you atelier Boz knows how to work some magic in their dresses! All of their cuts are so beautiful!
>>
>>9163047
Congrats, anon! I have this one as well; I got it last year and really love it. It's super easy to wear and can be styled so many ways!
>>
Do you gyus have any old school lolitas you like to follow? Especially in Instagram. Would appreciate suggestions even more if it's not Ophelia, I think we all are aware of her already lol.
>>
>>9163047
This would have been my first dress, but I didn't know how good of a price I had before it was gone.
I'm glad you got it anon, one day I will get it too!
>>
Just bought my first pair of RHS, can't wait to laugh at myself when I fall on my ass. Also working on a bunch of basics (why are solid color lace topped socks such a bitch to find?) because I need to be ready for autumn. Velveteen season is upon us!
>>
>>9167636
Lolita butiken has nice ones! They are longer and elastic holds them up well and I have big thights. Only minus would be that the white is quite stark. I would also recommend looking through japanese auctions. I have found few pairs there. Also, good luck with RHs just make sure to watch your steps and you will be fine!
>>
>>9167636
Where did you buy them from? That big rocking horse shoe guide is pretty outdated
>>
>>9167759
I went with clobba. He has Lolita Lola ones (leather with a wood sole) in stock if you fit the sizes still available. Otherwise it's Bodyline, real VW, or secondhand as far as I know.
>>
>>9167759
Antaina has some you can get custom sized

Is there any other way to get the Montreal ones that isn't spending whatever god awful amount RTBU wants? I like the low height foam base of those RHS. They're great for weaker ankles.
>>
>>9168226
I don't know why I always forget antaina! I ended up with the Lola's because they were the closest to the VWs (not that anything will compare to the real thing. If they weren't so expensive...)
>>
>>9168231
Seconding this question! I own a pair of pink Montreal RHS boots and I love them! How do we get??
>>
>>9168231
I have Double Decker ones and they are so good even tho they are like atleast two sizes too big. Interested in Montreal too because I love the boots. Wooden soles are so much more comfy than the foam ones so which one does Montreal have?

In the topic of shoes, a lot of old school designs are no longer available as they are shoes so they don't hold up so well. I find design replicas wrong and they are even illegal to import here but I have been starting to wonder how bad it would be to make Antaina do replicas from some of the older designs. Would you gulls still consider it morally wrong? Some of those shoes are just so cute.
>>
>>9168223
Congrats! I was eyeing the Lolas too, but my feet are too big. Maybe I'll just safe up for the VW.
>>
>>9168869
Thanks! DESU the VWs would likely blow the shit out of the Lolas, so it would probably be worth it. I figure if I wear the Lolas out though that means I both like and use them enough to justify buying myself the real deal.
>>
>>9168900
I think that's a good approach!

Will have to try and find someone with a pair of RHS approx. my size so I can have a test-walk in them. No point in buying expensive shoes which get you into hospital.
>>
>>9168938
I used to curse my tiny feet because I had to shop in the kids section. I hate it less these days. And this shoe talk has sent me to check out Fluevog again.
>>
>>9168766
In the bodyline vs replica thread someone summed it up nicely by saying that bodyline is fine as long as you coord it right and replicas are bad but nobody gives a shit about design replicas.
>>
>>9169008
>nobody gives a shit about design replicas

You can keep telling yourself that but it doesn't make it true
>>
>>9169008
Anon, I stated it's even illegal in my country and I care about them but just wanted to see what are people's thoughts on this quite popular matter. I would most definitely buy the real deal but they are not often available. I hope this don't turn into a general replica debate because I just want to hear old school folk's opinion in this.
>>
>>9168969
Did you find some nice Fluevogs? I don't think I remember having ever seen any suitable for old school.
>>
>>9172323
Nah, didn't find any. This season seems to be a miss for me. Outside of their witchy boots they make nothing even remotely suited for old school, but I have some more modern pieces that would look good with some older collections Fluevog has come out with.

Meta hooker platforms and RHS will be my default old school shoes if I can put my hands on them.
>>
Anyone has any experience VW rhs? I'm considering getting a pair but would like to get some opinions about them first.
