Nagi and Emiri tend to be the most eccentric on stage. Nagi spends the entire show blatantly trying to steal attention by making ridiculously overdone facial expressions. It's kind of hard not to stare at her. And Emiri has the same schtick as Pikarin Shiina where she claims to be an ancient demon, and her dancing it kind of unusual and stands out as well.

If you're ever in Tokyo try to go to one of their regular shows at Akiba Cultures, I've never been turned away just showing up a half hour beforehand, apparently they don't normally sell out.

What are your interests? Are you looking to shop, meet celebrities, cosplay, etc?

For example, Fan Expo is a really big upcoming con with tons of celebrities attending like Stan Lee. But it's also heavily commercialized and quite expensive to attend ($125 for a weekend pass). Also, Fanexpo doesn't really focus on Anime, but more towards Western media.

Another worthwhile con that didn't happen this year due to logistics reasons is Atomic Lollipop. There isn't a lot in terms of panels and guests, but the con itself has a good fun vibe to it and is generally considered a party con. When I went last yr and walked past the parking lot at night, I saw a bunch of people having fun, hanging out, smoking, drinking and having sex.

I thought Crowne Plaza didn't need to take a deposit since that's what was written when I made the reservation, but apparently they do because they charged a deposit on my card? Is that even legal? Can I get them to honor their original policy without getting my reservation pulled away?

FanExpo is good if you like comics and sci-fi, TCAF is GREAT if you like art and indie comics, ConBravo is good if you like gaming and youtube, Forest City is good for comics and a less jammed atmosphere than FanEx.

That's it really. Ontario has a lot of shit cons otherwise that all just wanna be AN or a comic con. Avoid Unplugged, Fan World, and Frostcon (if it ever runs again) at all costs.

check out fan expo as others have said. the interesting thing about fan expo vs anime north is that it's legitimately right downtown toronto. You could always just get a X Day only pass and use the other days to do touristy crap like check out the Maido Cafe or a museum.

ConBravo is like the ultimate expression of a Con that's small, but still good. If you're not particularly interested in the guests (and they do bring good guests) they bring it can be a bit drab but compared to the other small cons in Ontario it's miles, miles, MILESSSS ahead.

Well that was disappointing. I got there around 6:30 and half the food stalls had closed up and left already. Bought the takoyaki, yakiniku and okonomiyaki and they were a cold mess. The okonomiyaki was barely even cooked... at least there were no lines for anything.

AE was absolutely annihilated by AR. Their PR and marketing leading up to the event was absolute shit and they were extremely late in releasing any information about the con.
What grinded my gears the most was their AA layout in the vendors hall. The walkways between tables for congoers were wide, but the artists were squished with their chairs touching back to back with each other, with no room to move at all. It looked awfully claustrophobic and uncomfortable. What made it even worse was that an artist said that they had tried to contact AE staff to find a solution to this situation, but no one would take action.

I really feel for AA, hella tight and they definitely could've accommodate the tables facing the wall better, or at least move artists to the front (yea that'll mess up their map but there were too many empty tables near the front, people turned away thinking there's nothing in the back alley). It's just ill design to have tables facing the walls when they are better off having their backs to the wall.

Also, empty tables had cosplayers' baggages underneath them, even though I believe there was coat check?

General gist of the attendees felt the programming was so-so. Location was kinda neat for a change, I liked the water stations. Not too busy, too bad.

Food was really good imo but a little on the expensive side (~6$ for a drink or slice of cake). When I went they also had a 12$/hour ordering policy as in each person has to spend 12$ for every hour they stay and I missed the show but apparently they charge you 10$ for that as well.

Oh jeez they can't touch Minicomi, hopefully... It's a nice one day AA event despite the heat from the crowded gym. Hopefully they can afford a nicer location next year, I notice they took out the stage area for more artists? It's definitely has outgrown that community center gym.

I agree about MiniComi having outgrown the venue, but personally I'm a big fan of the community centre (despite its overwhelming stuffiness and humidity) because of its prime location to the water and Terra Breads. They got some good shit at Terra Breads.

Any americans i've spoken to have only come over once, and are heading back once they've done a walk of clifton hill.

The artists in AA look like they were doing well- there's a pokestop right in the AA. We'll see if they fix the security issues by tomorrow, but I know regular people were just walking in a buying stuff. An American told me the US side was a little more organized, but there was less local things to do so it wasn't as busy.

How many different does go into arranging one of these fashion show events? It might help people to be more understanding if they had a concrete understanding of all the work that actually goes into it, rather than a generic "it's really hard". Any special setups for the stage? Is the main con staff hard to deal with? Do you need to arrange for snacks/water? Lighting coordination? Dressing rooms? Clothes storage and inventory? Booking a DJ or having some kind of premade mixtape? How many rehearsals are the models expected to have? Is hair and makeup provided for the models or are they expected to do their own? Does the organizer have a full time job/schooling while coordinating this?

Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase tickets at the door for any of the after party events for Fanexpo? For example, the EDM X EDP Dance Party with DJ RYU + DJ KORSK ft. KRADNESS - FRIDAY.

I'm on call for work Friday and Saturday night and I didn't purchase tickets ahead of time online cause of it. I'd like to go to these events if I'm free. Thanks.

There's no facebook page for this yet, as it's only a handful of us atm. Updates are posted on the Canada General thread here in cgl about a week or two before the scheduled meetup. Meetups are about once a month either the last or second last Saturday of the month. As another anon mentioned, you're welcome to come join us if you're interested.
