it's as simple as buying a high quality wig (no shiny fibers) and doing some research. There are so many tutorials out there (a lot for specific characters) that I can't see why people don't take the time to style a wig properly.

A lot of the bad ones that I see are just poor quality or the person had no idea what the hell they were doing and just glued a bunch of shit together and called it a day

Depends on the character. If you have no experience it is recommended to either practice with cheap wigs or get someone to commission one. If you are a noob do not start off with Yu-gi-oh.
