AX was great for me this year. Aqours event was fun, got to meet Anchan, and Dempagumi rocked. Definitely the best year out of the 3 that I've gone. My biggest gripes were staff not knowing what the fuck they're doing as usual, and the artist alley. Hey I've got a good idea. Let's move the artist alley to a huge parking garage, but keep the aisles the same size as they've always been so there's still no walking space. And let's also fill up half the parking garage with 5000 tables for card playing faggots.

The post-con depression is hitting pretty hard this year. I couldn't get a good room, so I just commuted from my house and barely ended up at the actual con, and so it feels like AX came and went and I didn't go. Cons are no fun when you have to go home every night.

I kind of feel similar these days. I'm not alone that often but I'm starting to feel like I'm forcing my way into groups that don't really want me, and so many of my con friends have moved on into different kinds of con life that I end up really left out. (Most of them are LTR/married now and just spend all their time in cosplay couple groups etc., and if I hang out I'm third wheeling really hard.)

the entire Hivebent music team was visiting the convention at odd intervals throughout the weekend. They all pretty much hung out underneath the stairway next to West Hall.

Hilarious that so many people used to wish/joke that he would end up being a Guest of Honor and he just randomly shows up and chills with 0 fanfare.

Anime Expo is such a corporate con this days. There's such little fan spirit. They don't even allow cosplay gatherings in the convention anymore. It's really just a con for taking pictures of cosplayers and hanging out with your friends.

I thought AX was much better last year DESU, and this was my 2nd one. I doubt I bother because flying into the con from the opposite coast costs a ton of money, plus with it being so hard to find a short walk room w/o buying a $350 or more VIP badge makes me think I should not bother.

AX this year felt like the con that never came. since this is my only real vacation time I look forward to it the most.
This year has been so shitty for me so its kinda like shitty life, shitty con.and I got what I expected. Honestly the only thing that got me through last weekend was all my hoping and planning for AX 2017.

I didn't even feel good enough about myself or my costume to take any pictures or ask for any pictures. and now I have so many regrets.

I wanted to do allot of what they had on Sunday but the schedule came out so late and the hotel I booked was only for Thursday and Friday.

Second AX trip, this time around was much better, although I wish I could've met more people. Three of my friends ended up deciding to come last minute, which is good because otherwise I would've been by myself. I ended up spending most of my time following them around to their various meetups, even though I wasn't in cosplay (go ahead, laugh at my crossboard normalfaggotry)

Pros:

>Super cool concerts (I went to see Ken Ashcorp/Mystery Skull and the Bebop Jazz experience)
>The Cowboy Bebop VA panel was amazing OMFG, although I am still salty they didn't sign any autographs

Don't do a sdcc pre-sale until they start to sell out instantly. You didn't have to do this shit til maybe 2011 for the 2012 con. I think that's the first time they only did a handful of prereg and I woke up at 5am on day one to do it. The current sdcc badge process is a pain in the ass

At most ax is around the 2008 sdcc level so it still has a few years before demand will be immediate and given the poor teen demographic may never need it. Someone on here said Saturday they closed the registration but I never saw that corroborated

And honestly the only way you could make ax feel manageable again is rolling back to 40k attendees. 60k onward is too crowded for the LA convention center. Thing really needs an expansion/renovation, especially in regards to panel rooms

Another story was this guy at Day 2 ticket line that arrived and just sat down in the beginning of the line and never moved until someone told to just go back and seemed he politely went to the whole down of big line. This year I went with a new group since my main group bailed last minute because they were spent after going to EDC. It was literally babysit them the whole weekend, couldn't go to parties, meet ups, panels or anything I wanted to do because they couldn't hold their liquor and we're doing stupid shit. kato's autograph fuckup was because of the guest needing to reschedule. every other time I went to autographs they immediately knew where to send me after seeing what name was on my ticket (goes for both AX autographs and industry autographs). that's also why they didn't know where the new autograph line for kato was. she hadn't really been reassigned a new lane.

The script reject probably has to do with their contracts with the gaming company. He didn't explain what he had proposed in the actual script so for all we know it could have been something totally off base. Repeatedly calling others in the industry cunts and bish is probably not going to look good on a professional level then again I have no idea who this guy is and what he does/if he is a professional or not.

from what I can tell he's self-taught. he's trying to do things that aren't really done in cosplay videos like trying to make a story but he's running into problem #1: they're cosplayers, not actors. he's definitely got a thing or two to learn about in regards to guests and how to handle rejection, especially if he's going to do film work of any sort. no plan survives contact with the enemy. I doubt he was paying them anything so they don't have a contractual obligation to work with him on his video. kudos for initial enthusiasm, minuses for blowing up like he did, and on facebook of all places.

Oh I've actually seen this being a problem in the asian cosplay community. Like when events repeatedly request cosplayers to put on some sort of performance for their appearance despite the cosplayers rejecting time and time again because they are uncomfortable doing something that's out of their field. saw some vid earlier of those k-cosplayers and the entourage, I quickly summed them up as a couple "idol" girls with a team of costume/makeup people, so yeah I probly wouldnt think asking the dress-up girls to be involved in any vid - they are simply their to show what the k-group's effort and a pose here and there. From the sound of the way their translator talks I could tell that asking him to explain to the cosplayer to do all some shit for a vid -- he'd stare for a looong sec and say likely say no I imagine.

I really hope the best for Cosplay LA as I really like what he's trying to do and find him to be one of the most interesting videographers out there. After AX I hope this guy learns two important lessons.

1. Don't be a bitch and blow up on social media like this.

2. Use cosplayers for more reasons other than name

Pretty much many cosplayers become famous just for being photogenic. You see cosplayers use the same generic cute poses no matter what the character is and don't really engage the personality and spirit of the series.

There are many cosplayers who can act and many of them do receive some sort of training. Hell some of the most recent professional voice actors came from the cosplay community as it is a great method of self expression. The only thing is these cosplayers are not the best of the best when it comes to physical looks or outfit quality. They don't look horrible but its nothing professional grade.

If this guy is going to make cosplay videos that are shot more like films then he should stop approaching his projects like a con videographer. He's not going to get the acting chops he needs just hunting down random people at cons. Instead the guy should actually hold auditions. screen cosplayers and do cold reads.

The videos are edited rather quickly so that you don't see the full outfit, meanwhile there's a much larger emphasis on dialogue, body language and facial expressions. These are skills that a good number of cosplayers have but not the ones at the very very top

Honestly I had a blast at AX! Met some new and old friends, experienced Korean BBQ for the first time, and actually socialized!

But normally, con depression hasn't hit me this bad. A week later and I remember why I enjoyed cons in the first place: it's the only place I'm social, because I spill spaghetti every where I fucking go, it's the only place where people give a shit about me. Sure, I have a 3d boyfriend at home but he has his own life at home. I don't have friends and I'm regularly ignored by my Twitter friends unless I post some stupid meme.

I just want friends. I'm glad I had fun at AX but it reminded me too much of how lonely I really am.
