What kind of glasses do you girls think are the best options for classic & gothic lolita?

And with this I do mean prescription glasses. Wearing clear glasses when you don't need them is like faking a disability for attention.

For the sort of costume approach that seems the most popular, circular lenses, whether tiny or huge.

If you wanted to look good, I'd go with oval or rounded rectangular, depending on your face, you know, things that look good anyway.

As for the normal glasses part, this girl looks great with normal frames that match the black of her clothes.
>>
>>9081905
this looks so frumpy, which is a shame 'cause she's cute.
>>
I typically don't judge a Lolita because of glasses. But if the glasses don't fit their face regardless of what they are wearing, it throws it off for me. I wear glasses and got some thicker plastic frames. I wanted a more thing pair, but I couldn't find a pair that where far to big for my face.

I don't like it when Lolitas buy those huge plastic rounded frames that are nearly bifocal looking. ( see girly hoot when she wore her glasses) they just don't look right at all in Lolita or out. Second for Lolitas who wear those Harry Potter round glasses. They look so dumb with everything and on everyone.
>>
>>9081898
i'd personally recommend clear frames, just as long as they fit you're face. That's what I wear and they don't distract from anything in my opinion.
>>
I think these style of minimalistic glasses (pic) will work well for classic or toned down sweet and maybe even for gothic?
What you don't want is those huge emo black framed ones, smaller or normal sized black frames work well most of the time but oversized 80's nerd frames are a big no no.
But what's most important is that the frame you choose is flattering, you have to look good in them.
You might want to look up if the shops have special offers, like 2 for the price of one, this way, you can switch frames to suit your coord.

Just buy something flattering on your face anon. If you're doing classic and gothic though, maybe a tortoiseshell frame would look nice for the two? Also virtual glasses windowshopping is fun, like on Specsavers. There's also a website www.classicspecs.com which lets you pick five frames to try on before buying, and they have some suitably hipster frames which would work with Classic at least.

I don't see a problem with glasses when wearing lolita. Some of us do not want to wear contacts or unable to.
>>
>>9082169
No one said there was a problem anon, at least not op.
>>
>>9082169
I don't like girly hoot as much as every one but she looked so dumb in those glasses. I'm glad she went to contacts or fucking blind for all I care. They looked horrible on her and really made her outfits look like she was trying to be edgy.
>>
As a glasses wearer, I don't understand why someone can afford expensive lolita but not buy suitable frames for lolita. Kate's old glasses were just awful for her Ott sweet shit. There's that one gothic lolita that has the ugly radfem cat eye glasses and they always throw off her coords. Just get some cheaper, elegant pairs from Zenni or wherever for lolita and wear your ugly plastic frames in normie clothes.

A pair of ill-suited frames can be so unflattering on the face.
>>
>>9082177
People sure had a problem when Kate wore her glasses tho
>>
>>9082187
Well yes, because tortoiseshell frames look incredibly out-of-place with pastel sweet. If she'd been wearing classic with those glasses nobody would have batted an eye.
>>
>>9082187
I was not the anon you were replying to anon, and I don't really follow Kate.
>>
>>9082187
It's because Kate's glasses didn't work with her face shape when she wore Lolita. If it wasn't the glasses it was the wig she wore all the fucking time.
>>
>>9081904
Who is that? She is so pretty, I need to see her full coord.
>>

Which glasses would you recommend from specsavers? :)

>>

>>
>>9082463
The patterns and colours are cute, but they've got that broad, grampa's bifocals type of thing going on.
>>
>>9082471
I get what, but I feel like larger rounder glasses look more youthful than the typical narrow rectangle glasses, also if they're a bit wider you're make up details will show better. but again this all depends on your face shape
>>
>>9082453
All of them are good quality-wise if that what you mean, but the actual style depends on your face shape and hairstyle a lot. In terms of colour though I'd always go lighter than black, it always looks far too heavy imo
>>
>>9082453
What's your face shape, hair cut and style anon?
>>
>>9082508

You might want to consider getting two pairs of glasses as sweet and classic are pretty different. Maybe get a cheap pair to wear with which style of the two fits in least with your everyday style?
>>
>ITT: People who don't wear glasses trying to judge people who need them

I just don't even care about people's glasses at this point anymore. Sure, some might look slightly off with the style or maybe not even great with the persons face but I just don't consider the glasses apart of the coord because not everyone is able to get glasses that will be neutral or will fit well with their coords. Plus it's all really not that big of a deal as someone people get asspained over. I hate Kate too but her tortoiseshell glasses really weren't that bad/were not worth getting buttblasted to the moon and back.
>>
>>9082600
Lmao I'm probably replying the most and I've been wearing glasses all my life anon. I kind of agree with you in that matching glasses aren't the be all end all, as the focal point should be the outfit rather than something that is necessary/part of every day life. But still, it's a bit of fun to try and match glasses to coords and I'm kind of in a glasses mood because I just ordered my new ones lol

Clear frames areally distracting aND can yellow terribly overy time. What you want are drill mounted frames where the arms and nose pieces are drilled directly into the lenses. Much less distracting and they come in a variety of colors. They're also super light weight.
>>
>>9082865
if you want to look like a programmer, yes drill mounted. They're not fashionable in any way.
>>
>>9082865

I own round glasses that don't have a frame around the lenses. Had lots of compliments on them and they are really comfortable (don't cut your vision) and aren't too attention grabbing since the lenses don't have anything around them.
Bad side is that they are very fragile and you need to fix the screws every month, but until now they haven't broken even after I dropped them and traveled with them to other countries (which evolved some cave exploring and river stuff)

I have like 5 pairs of glasses for lolita from zenni sales but this is my main pair. I wouldn't call myself gothic or classic but most of my wardrobe is black.
I became a fan of larger frames after getting some hipster wayfarers a few years ago and realizing they let you see so much!

Just an FYI, OP, glasses without lenses are a thing in Japanese fashion: http://neojaponisme.com/2011/07/19/on-fake-glasses-in-japan/

More on topic, there occasionally are articles in the GLB on what frames to pick for which substyle. Occasionally the advice is a bit off (like the oversized plastic-frame glasses with the classic outfit in this scan does not look good at all), but most of the recommendations seem to encourage frames that blend together with the overall outfit.
>>
>>9083313
I like that they encourage glasses as an accessory to fit in with the coord, but some of those are pretty tacky
>>
>>9083618
I wouldn't wear any of those glasses. They all look really cheap.
>>
>>9083626
Yeah, the arms on some of them especially are just really bad looking
>>
>>9082728
At least post a front on photo. I can't give you any advice on face shape from that angle. I think the frames are a bit heavy on your face though and although they aren't totally fug on you they also don't quite work, I would go for something with a lighter look and feel.
>>
I personally like glasses with a more neutral shape and decorative arms, i.e. nothing that seems to be popular right now but was still around 5 years ago. I think they work well with most people's faces, are just there rather than making a statement in their own right and are still elegant enough for lolita. Sorry about the terrible example but it seems like no one seems them anywhere these days. The bolder cats eye, large hipster frames etc work if they work with your face, but don't really suit elegant looks as well.
>>
>>9083737
These aren't exactly elegant either though imo, they're more mom-kei
>>
>>9083744
Yeah, as I said not the greatest example, especially since those ones are kinda cheap. I used to have glasses where the arms looked like wrought iron and instead of being weird silver and purple they were matt black titanium, but I still managed to break that pair so no photos unfortunately. I still much prefer them to my current plain pair
>>
>>9081904
Those look absolutely terrible. Not to mention they reek of sjw
>>
>>9082083
No, salt-chan.
>>
>>9082072
She has a mature face, I don't think different frames will help change that.
I do think these frames suit her though.
>>
>>9081904
>>9082056
I really dig these. However I hate any kind of rectangular frames in lolita. I don't care if the frame has flowers on it or if the color goes with your coord, they look like shit. Most rori looks like vintage somewhat vintage inspired, the modern rectangular shape doesn't flatter it. Feminine round, slim frames or even slightly cat eye ones look so much better
>>
>>9083810
What are you on? >>9081904 looks absolutely fantastic, I think I'm in love with round frames now.
>>
Any tips for wearing mascara or falsies with glasses? I really hate the feeling of my eyelashes bumping against the glass and if I wear mascara it causes black smudges so I prefer to wear my glasses rather low on my nose, but that means the top of the frame cuts across my eyes in photos. My frames are already quite round but not as big as >>9081904.
>>
>>9084017
Only choice is to not wear fake eyelashes, or place your glasses slightly further down your nose.

I never had the smudges, allow the mascara to properly dry first or purchase a better brand.
>>
>>9084079
I get it with my natural eyelashes too and already have the glasses far enough down my nose that I spend half the time looking over them, even though I'm nearsighted. I've never been able to find actual prescription frames as big/round as the ones at the top of his thread and I was hoping someone ITT has dealt with the same thing I have and might have a clever idea. Other than cutting my lashes shorter (thanks, optician dude).
>>
>>9084096
Have you tried curling your lashes? Hearing the eyelash curler up a little helps set them in place for longer too. And maybe give clear mascara a go?
>>
>>9084017
Get mascara that's thickening, but not lengthening. My favorite is Kiss Me Heroine's thickening mascara. Only thing that will keep curl to my stubbornly straight Asian lashes.
>>
>>9082753
>>9082755
I got the Sailor Mars ones of these and I'm really excited - I wear red frequently in lolita so I am hoping they work out.

>>
>>9084508

>>
I really wish I could get different glasses for my different fashion styles but my lenses start at $500 so getting "cheapie" frames won't help anything.
The best I can do is choose frames which are less intrusive but no matter what I'm gonna get dumped on for so called SJW frames because the thickness of the lenses need thicker frames.
>>
>>9085517
Why are your lenses so expensive?
>>
>>9085526
I'm very short sighted with very strong astigmatism so my lenses have to be made of the thinnest whatever by secret Japanese lens making elves. Even with that my glasses are uncomfortably front heavy to wear. I'm getting pretty close to legally blind and at that point my socialist medicine will pay for my corneas to get replaced, awesome!
>>
>>9085517
>>9085526
>>9085541

I'm about two and half diopters away from legally blind myself, and I know that feel. I completely understand when a frame shape or material throws off a coord a bit, that it can make it look tacky or frumpy, but it seems most people who don't have to wear thick lenses are unaware of the fact that you really have to stop using metal frames after a point because they just don't hold up or look fucking terrible.
>>
Anybody have websites for cute frames? I posted this in the general lolita thread one thread back, but in one of these threads a while back somebody posted a beautiful frame website, that had really lovely eyeglass frames. It was a European, I think French, website, I'm pretty sure, but I loved it (and didn't bookmark it like a faggot).

I might need glasses (my vision is beginning to blur in my left eye, but my right eye seems to be compensating for it for now, so it might go blurry, too), and thought that website was perfect.
>>
>>9085541
>>9086094
This, also no way in hell larger frames will be comfortable because even with high density the lenses are too heavy. I can still just get away with thicker metal frames if the arms are wide enough but I have 2 dioptres difference between my left and right eye plus the astigmatism, so not only are my lenses thick they're noticeably different between sides.
>>
silver or gold-tone oval metal rims (or half-rims) are a good neutral choice, imo. And I'm up to -10.00 in one eye, and can still find frame + lens combos in high-index lenses for under $150 USD.

In general, rectangular frames are a bad idea for lolita because they tend to make the upper part of the face look a lot wider and more masculine.

>Wearing clear glasses when you don't need them is like faking a disability for attention
As much as I like to share this sentiment (having gone to a school where kids were actively hostile to glasses wearers of all things makes you jaded as fuck about people wearing glasses as fashion accessories) it's not even an isolated case in history. There was a famous instance where people found it fashionable to have a limp and to cover their necks after a princess who had a stiff knee and a neck scar, and thus walked with a limp and always wore a choker of some sort.

Bought a frame that was just legs and the Middle piece and had the lenses custom made.

>>
>>9085541
feeling the same anon... I'm pretty blind myself compared to most people and the optometrist recommended plastic frames to hide the thickness of the lenses.

>>9090387
I get that recommendation too, but honestly unless you're like, at the point of maxing out the thickness of the lens blanks, it doesn't actually matter that much. Some people don't like the effect of having the thick edge in their field of vision, but when the trade off is having a giant opaque frame in your field of vision - I personally take the first option. Lens size is a far bigger factor, because the larger the lens, the thicker the edges will be.

fwiw, I'm >>9086885 and pic is my current pair (terrible shape for lolita, going to get something rounder with my next pair) - the left lens is -10.00 and ~5/8" thick at the edge. Totally not noticeable from normal angles.
>>
>>9090446
I didn't say it made it ok
>>
Would transition lenses be bad for wearing in lolita? I found some nice, small, round, vintage glasses by Scott Harris but idk if they'd look nice shaded.
I'll be getting a second (much more modern) frame with transitions so I'm not sure if I'll need the vintage ones with the effect; I'll probably get them plain.
>>
>>9092296
Get them plain for sure, they'll look real odd in photos shaded, and they might not even suit shades full stop.
>>
>>9092296
I regret having my only pair of glasses be transitions because it makes outdoor photos a pain in the petti. They don't even work all THAT well as sunglasses either. I'm switching to just having a pair of rx sunglasses and regular glasses instead and I like it much better personally
>>
>>9082133
desu, I wouldn't quite take it THAT far, but I do find it really stupid / annoying when people wear glasses like they're fashion accessories. I was teased for years for having glasses which I need to see, it makes me preeeetty salty when people use them as accessories.

It is sort of akin to having a fahion cane (or "walking stick" if you want to make excuses for yourself), it's a medical device that some people need, but is readily available to the general public who do not need it, but who may wish to have it for fashion purposes. It's pretty irritating when people who don't need them go around flaunting them as if they're somehow GOOD things to have.

I have these and honestly I love them so much. I despise metal frames and always find them really uncomfortable and I just don't get on with them. I used to always get thin, small frames but after buying a square pair (this is my second time now and these are even bigger than my first ones) I have to say I don't think I could wear anything else. YOU CAN SEE SO MUCH, it was enlightening honestly, I barely notice the frames and I don't end up look under/over my lenses. Although these are pink (they look a bit darker irl I think) they compliment my skin tone (Slightly tanned/yellow undertones) really well so they almost blend in with my face meaning they can work with lots of different looks (I also have dark hair to so the arms don't stand out). I think getting glasses that match your face shape/skin tone really well is more important than your matching your clothes desu, as well as being comfortable ofc
>>
>>9094497
I am guilty of this. I usually don't wear my fake glasses but occasionally I will. I think I look cute with them and they make me look smart. I think people who need glasses should be glad they're becoming fashion accessories because now they can be "cool" too!

>implying wheel chairs and walking sticks are as normalized in society as eyeglasses
I honestly don't see the issue in wearing non-prescription glasses. I'm tired of being labeled a hipster for defending this stance. I don't flaunt that I'm wearing a fake in people's faces and I always pick out a simple and non tacky pair so I don't stand out. When someone asks me what prescription it is I say something like +0.5 so I don't get the whole "that's immoral!!" speech and then 5 page essay on how they were bullied for wearing glasses. Is being bullied some rite of passage for wearing them? Sorry that happened but I don't give two shits if you try to use that as a compelling argument.

I understand they are an inconvenience and you may think I'm stupid for wearing them, and that's perfectly fine. I understand that logic. But bringing your past into this just reinforces my opinion that it's a GOOD thing people are embracing glasses as a fashion choice.

You were bullied for it before and now it's cool.
This generation won't be alienated as much for it anymore. Isn't that a positive?

Glasses can have an aesthetic purpose too and I think that's fantastic. It helps near/far sighted folks blend in better and is socially acceptable.

It's not like people who do need them ignore the aesthetic aspect before purchasing either. Most people pick frames and colors that suit their face and mood. I personally like how it makes my makeup look less dramatic, my face more angular, and my nose smaller...things I've been trying to downplay for a long time. Finding a good pair can really up your game and confidence.

I can't wrap my mind around how this is a huge issue. It's not like you can appropriate a culture of glasses-wearing people or something like that and I'm not making fun/light of anyone's disability either.

I simply like how they look on me, why is this so bad?

If it looks good, why the hell not?
>>
>>9094497

with this whole "DON'T WEAR GLASSES IF YOU DON'T NEED THEM WE CAN TELL WHEN THEY'RE FAKE" malarkey, I want to point out that I know several lolitas (myself included) who wear circle lenses with prescription with non prescription glasses to match the outfit. So some of the people you're yelling about actually do need glasses lol

Is this tumblr now? Fake glasses making light of a disability, really? Who gives a fuck?

If anything I'm jealous of people who can buy cheap frames online and put no/low prescriptions in them. So they have tons of frames to coordinate with. Meanwhile my nearly blind ass still has to buy $200 lenses for my $10 frames.

Does anyone have suggestions/reviews for places to get inexpensive prescription glasses? I haven't ordered online before and I want to be careful in doing so.
