I was there yesterday. First time back in a couple years and it's a fucking dive. Security are assholes, everything's cordoned off by barriers, there were even police wandering the con.
Cosplays ranged from average to cardboard quality.

Hard to feel lonely in a packed place really. Depends if you're going for the stalls or for the cosplay stuff.

Being on your own and asking for photos can feel awkward (shouldn't though, 95% of cosplayers are there for a good time, feel happy that someone likes their costume enough to take a pic and wouldn't even notice you're not with anyone, let alone care)

If you're by yourself you can spend ages looking at the stuff you want for how long you want, you can actually try out the food stalls, you can queue up for an autograph from the shame nun without feeling embarassed.

Guess doing it in a group that knows how you actually do these sorts of packed events would be much much better.

Should be okay alone but having the option to join a group and drop out as and when you want too is good.

This doesn't normally prevent you from taking photos of others as the other anon said and you could get your shopping done considerably quicker this way.

You also have the option of free roam without having to detour or not check something out because someone else in a group does not like it.

The other benefit to being by yourself is being able to be independent too.

I went Saturday last year - it was such a tragedy. I'll hopefully plan my days out so that Saturday is spent at meets/shoots so I'd mostly be out on the green. I've never been on a Friday but I've heard its so much better than Sat/Sun

Only down side to Friday is that not all the stalls are set up and you are almost certain to find more stalls on Saturday.

Saturday is pretty much the peak day and for most people as they have no work, education, etc that they need to attend to.
Travel is the other factor why most leave late on Saturday or on Sunday.

Why doesn't the Excel centre get it's fucking act together and build a proper food court or a high-capacity diner? It's bad enough in the main hallway bit without queuing on both sides clogging things up. Having a proper area for people to chill out for an hour and get a meal would help ease off the crowds elsewhere too.

Earls Court was falling to bits and forced you to queue outside in the rain for shows but at least it knew the importance of this.

Jesus, I'm closing in on 30, single, get plenty of one night stand sex, yet whenever I go to these cons and see the nice or chubby tits my mind goes to shit..

I went with a Normie Harley (she didn't even really know who the character was) and someone else who did a suicide squad joker (who knew marginally more about the character at least).

From what I can remember tickets rarely sell out– occasionally priority Saturday tickets are snapped up one-two weeks prior to the event. I usually purchase priority tickets to avoid the long queues. Get there before 10.30am to avoid waiting in line too long. The guests are usually nobodies (or Warwick Davis)– but that's not much different from London. I can't say much about the stalls, as I'm not interested in anime/manga. They look pretty generic? The games area is sometimes fun. You'll usually get talking to someone there. Terms of meeting new people, you can go about it the old fashioned way and compliment their cosplay/fashion, or however you communicate with people. Or you could check the Facebook page, and see if there's any meetups? I'm a lolita, so I usually just arrange to go to a meetup, or get chatting to random people. I hope that helps, anon!

Generally with premade costumes you get what you pay for. Incredibly thin costumes made out of some insanely flammable material.

There are quite a lot of costumes you can piece together with off the shelf clothes, some minor props and makeup/dye/prosphetics

I did cosplay for the first time with everything sourced through ebay (and one specialist shop) and judging by how many people took photos with me, I did a better job that I thought I'd do.

A lot of sewing free cosplay can be acheived by being creative. For example there were a couple of decent Borderlands 2 cosplayers I saw who used regular clothes, used a marker pen to do a cel shading effect and a mask/facepaint.

I keep feeling like I am missing out on meeting up with people from /cgl/ and not enjoying the convention to its full potential. I went on Saturday, left at 5 then went back.

Is there a chat group or a meeting area that people from /cgl/ usually meet up at? It just felt pretty meh after hearing about orgies and seeing groups of cosplayers chilling out on the grass. I feel like when I am attending these conventions I am at the tip of the iceberg for convention activities.

I just want to be in a comfy group of cosplayers that I can chill out with during conventions. I feel so isolated and cut off from the convention experience.
