I really like mine, super think and bushy. Has a stiff metal core so you can curl it up and it doesn't hang limp. It fastens on with a big metal triangle paper clip thing.

sort of depends? I always make mine able to attached to a belt, fold the fur around the belt and hand stitch down kind of thing. If you want it to appear more like your attached picture, cut a hole out of the back of your pants, hem it, then push the belt with tail attached through the hole and around your waist like so.

Really depends on what you are doing, for casual stuff you can make something that clips into a belt.

If you want it to stand upright you'd need to build a wire and harness. I've done it for two costumes with 10 gauge steel wire and a weight belt.

For small tails just stuff them with polyfill, for a really big one stuff the end with polyfill and put an inflatable pool toy inside. Reduces the weight substantially and you can easily deflate it to fit in a suitcase.

Almost all fursuit tails are normally secured with double belt loops so the tail can't be yanked off unless it's forced off/someone is trying to tear it. This is the safest way but if the cosplay doesn't have the belt it kinda kills the illusion (unless you make a hole for the tail and wear the belt under the outfit

For less made-for-furry tails, they're either metal clips ons or you pin them on.

For recommendations it depends on your price range, how big you want the tail, the quality; And even how it attaches to you. A lot of fursuit makers sell just parts on Etsy (Growly, Shagpoke as popular examples) or if they're open for commissions, can take on parts work but just a tail can be $30-$60. Which isn't too bad I suppose.
If you're just getting a simple cat tail the price shouldn't be awful.

My tails attach using a badge clip. Super easy to clip on and off and won't easily be tugged off.
If the tails are very big and heavy, I'd go for a belt loop though.

Your best bet is to talk to fursuiters, though. Some of them do awesome work with tails.

My tail clips on with safety pins, but it's tiny because rabbit. A larger tail would probably need a belt loop, but it also depends on how thick/heavy it's going to be.

There's some tail buttplugs that have a sort of hook-shape to them that makes it so the tail sticks out at the base of your spine.
