who here has bought any of the $1k+ dresses before? deets? how did the sale go, were you in bid wars or not, was it all worth it in the end? how did others react to your new dress? anything else interesting, etc.
>>
>>8987751
Are you the one buying that CTP?
>>
>>8987879
no, actually, but i can't say i wouldn't get that print later on if i was able to.
>>
>>8987912
Same. How long did it take you to save up?

Sorry I can't help with the buying dresses story part. Most stuff I've gotten was like 350 at most.
Will probably drop 600ish on a Holy Lantern OP before October but that's as high as I'm gonna go for the time being.

One day though, I will totally spend 1k on something like CTP.
>>
>>8987921
Not that anon, but I just can't do it for CTP. I'm not in love with pink or grey for my wardrobe, though the print is adorable. It just seems too high for something I only moderately like. I do love cats though which does make me want it...
>>
>>8987921
it actually didn't take me very long to save
i made a $300 sale, and the rest was already in my savings, which i build up monthly. so it feels pretty awesome tbqh.
one sale can really make all the difference.
good luck with holy lantern
>>
>>8987935
I don't know how to feel about the grey colorway. I'd totally want a rerelease if it meant getting other colors.
Oh well secondhand market means jackshit.
>>
>>8987977
Thanks! I just sold my milky cross cause the bust was tiny, for about 300. I agreed to a payment plan so I've only got the first half of it as I really wanted it gone.
>>
>>8987983
I'd love a rerelease with more colorways. But that'll be a bloodbath and I'm sure there'll be loots of scalpers trying to get in on that. I bet others would just try to buy it because they have the chance, but just want to resell. It'd honestly be a nightmare.
>>

>>

>>
>>8987672
Do it, give mana-sama your money so he can continue to buy kawaii botox and be our immortal overlord. I know I really love this one and I'll probably be picking it up if my paycheck drops on time. Like the other anons said, perfect for summer.
>>
>>8988004
>CTP rerelease
just imagine the horror that would be a CTP rerelease. AP website goes down before it even comes out, stores catch fire, thousands perish in the battle. The only people who manage to land one are the scalpers, who turn around with over quadruple the current selling price. The day will forever be remembered as the bloodiest battle in lolita history.
>>

There were some comments on that person's post specifically that sounded too /cgl to me, and got erased real quick by the mods. One of the commenters called it out afterward. And I remember some on a beard-lita's coord as well.

Unfortunately I don't care enough to take caps of anything, much less go scrolling forever to find it again. If I don't like, I don't comment and move along, so I don't understand why people use up their energy to bother shitting on a coord that's gonna get buried under a bunch of posts and nobody's gonna remember anyway

>>
>>8988214
If they did, it will be just like a HL MTO only it will have 5 MTOs and people are going to be so sick of it that they will sell theirs for $50

still wish it would happen
>>
>>8988658
I see, so I was just not quick enough to read the now deleted stuff.
Not a big loss though; like you I only look at the pics and don't comment. There's no point trying to discuss anything via comments on FB anyway - people will not easily admit that their adversary may have a valid point, since the discussion is not private.
IIn the end, it's just frilly dresses (or non-frilly tshirts, in this particular case), not the recipe for world peace, so why bother.
>>
>>8988667
I'd be okay with this. I'd still wear it privately and it would be great to see the face of this one girl in my comm who bought it for like $1000 just to lord it over everyone else.

I sounded like an autistic esl in my email, but I sent one! I realized while on the website, that I actually own the Savannah petticoat that I got at a thrift store a few years ago. It's awesome and super fluffy, but it's ancient and the elastic needs to be replaced. I'd totally pay $60 for a high quality bell.
I mentioned "me and others in the lolita community" idk if that was a good idea or not. But I thought that letting them know that there would be a large community of people that would be interested in that product.
Please help, anons.

My favorite print combos are probably gingham and strawberries, I recently got IW's strawberry gingham and it's so cute and summery.

This mindset is so ridiculous. The average Japanese woman is 5'2", even if you're visibly chubby at that height you'll still won't have huge measurements. Most lolita brands have shirring and would fit a western woman of average height and size (i.e. not fat), I get tired of people that are so fucking bitter over not being able to fit into brand. Your unhealthy body image comes from yourself, not from Japan.

>>
>>8988256
How new are you?

How ruffled would the lolita/jfash ion communities' feathers be if a cam girl wore it as part of her show? What would the chances of her identity being uncovered if she's a lone lolita who doesn't post online?
>>
>>8988580
>lolita as a safe space
How is it possible to be this fucking new? This is literally why I didn't get into the fashion until I was mature enough to handle concrit. It has NEVER been a """"safe space """"
>>
>>8988651
Oh OK, great idea Scammy McGillicuddy. Who needs feedback or buyer and seller protection anyway? Why not just mail each other money orders with only law enforcement and the court system to protect us
>>
>>8988799
Yeah, but what do you use that offers buyer protection? Everything I've looked into had higher fees or no buyer/seller protection.
>>
>>8988991
Pretty ruffled I imagine, considering how ruffled the community has been in the past with girls who cammed but didn't involve lolita in it. If you're an unknown lonelita though, it's unlikely people will actually bother to track you down, if they even find out in the first place. At worst someone might post you here or on BtB saying "look at this slut ita"
>>
>>8988991

No one cares if you're an edgy shit.
>>
OK I know this question has been asked in similar formats, such as 'how do I become efamus!?!?'

But gulls, if you physically HAD to try making yourself lolita/jfash efamous (for some reason you have to try to be efamous or you die, I don't know, insert a better reason here), what would you do?

And you're still you, so we're going by your personal morals here. Would you pull a Kate or would you try being genuine?
>>
>>8989026
I'd shitpost so hard people would pay me to stop.
>>
>>8989026
>buy a better camera and a tripod and learn how to use it
>post all coordinates to CoF rather than just a fraction of them
>put links to other social media accounts in CoF posts
>set up a tumblr and lookbook and ensure the layout and theme is beautiful, then post coordinates at least twice a week
>follow other popular blogs and reblog their stuff so they notice me
>spend more money to ensure all coordinates are on point
>become more active in local community and step up to organize stuff
>get involved in the organization of national events

You might have more success trying to keep buying the latest releases and constantly rotate stuff in and out of your wardrobe to be able to afford that, but personally I prefer to buy stuff I like enough to keep so I'd probably do better trying to do a niche style really well. I probably wouldn't bother with vlogs either because I detest hauls and there isn't that much other original content to put out there.

Except, HL is still selling near retail after its MTOs and the only ones sick of it are salty gulls. Obviously a lot of people still like it since there are lots of girls wearing it, and there was a lot less selloff than what was predicted here. Sure some people only desire prints based on rarity/status, but most people want what they want because they like the way it looks.
I imagine CTP would be largely the same.
>>
>>8989085
You're making your assumptions too early. The HL craze is still fresh, in a little over a year people will start to become disenchanted and things will be different. Just think of how much Sugary Carnival or Milky Planet used to go for.

Sometimes I wonder how mad these people would be if they found out that here in Japan we literally have "counseling and reeducation" for people over 40 but under 75 years if their waist exceed something around 90cm. If overweight people don't lose weight they go on forced medical diet and their company may be taxed. It's because being too fat causes diseases that everyone has to pay for for healthcare. If one company has many overweight people the government thinks maybe these people have no time to excercize. I think these girls really think that being too fat doesn't cause medical problem though...
>>
>>8989117
Lol Ive had this idea before when joking with my bf

I also ended on the idea of dressing in full coords and holding "tea parties" on cam where you pretend the viewers are with you. I bet a lot of sad people would donate to that.
>>
>>8988662
All the responder said was that being small doesn't make Japanese people unhealthy/that statistically they have less of a body image problem and the OP jumped down her throat with "you're calling everyone fat". That doesn't logically make any sense tho. The responder said nothing about anyone being fat or even anything about brand lol

Honestly? Nobody really cares. There's a niche market for proper lolita porn in JAV, some trolls like to fish it on here, but aside from some shocked newb nobody even bothers responding.

You should be more concerned that even in Japan it's only a niche market, it's going to be an even smaller market on the Western side. There's better money to be made using other gimmicks than lolita clothes.

Obviously, if you were to join a lolita comm later on, there's always a chance someone or someone's boyfriend does recognise you, shit comes back to bite you, you get banned/shamed from communities, but that's really no different from the norm where anyone might recognise you anywhere and give you shit, anyway.
>>
>>8989926
about what? Mana not being in the GLB anymore or why his nose is more visible in the photos posted than in what people are used to seeing?
>>
>>8989111

nayrt, but as a counter:

Certain cuts/colours of Cosmic and DDC are still trading nearly at retail, despite having been out for years. DDC was the first MTO, a lot of girls did jump on it and it did flood the market at some point, it's just rare to find sellers willing to sell below retail except around sales season, so the prices stayed pretty high.

Then there's Celestial, the day the MTOs shipped out the prices went right back up to 800USD, it's a little lower now that the market's a bit slow, but still trading above retail.

I think it really is too soon to tell if HL prices will start coming down or it joins the ranks as one of those dresses whose price remains high. For one thing, it hasn't been dethroned yet as the best Halloween print series/sweet-gothic dress AP has ever made.
>>
Anyone got any tips for straightening out that lovey thick lace Baby uses for detailing? I've got some that's mushed and bent up on dresses I can't iron. Would getting the lace damp and shaping it work?
>>
>>8989986
I know people will hate me for this but the gothic-sweet feel with HL perfectly exemplifies 'bittersweet' to me, or what it should be rather than tacky bone dresses or any random sweet print in black. It just ticks every box for me as someone who likes Kawaii shit from growing up in 90s pastels but discovered Lolita through Victorian goth. I have paid scalper prices for a lot of my stuff ($500 total for Gardenberries, $600 for British Bear, $300 for a Meta miniskirt) so I told myself to wait a year after the MTO to get the Holy Lantern high waist jsk in wine. I'm short and they've apparently made them longer now though...

How often do you guys buy things that aren't in your preferred colorway?

Like my preferred colorway is usually always black, but I've been finding all of my wishlist dresses for cheap on auction in like ivory, brown, etc. I've bought a few of them, but part of me feels like I should have saved my money to wait for the colorway I really wanted

Teal looks amazing, I'm so down for unusual jewel tones. Of course you'll get the "hurdur it's a replica looks like shit" even though we're talking about color. It's like the "expensive wine tastes better" phenomena when it comes to replicas, but in reverse.
>inb4 a greentext of exactly everything horrible about the replica

So is there a tag on tumblr for lolita that's used for more quality coordinates? Not trying to start a /cgl/ sekrit club, but I feel like the "lolita fashion" tag has gotten pretty shitty, just like the normal "lolita" tag. I like the concept of tumblr, but I just want to see more quality coordinates from other westerners, less AP releases, Chinese reposts, and the usual ita shit.

>>8990638
That depends on whether I like other colorways as well, otherwise I never settle for anything but my preferred colorway. If I like a specific JSK in black I'd never buy it in brown no matter how rarely it pops up, it just wouldn't be the same.
>>
>>8990638
I do it frequently and often really end up liking what I got. Plus I save money buying less popular colorways, which is nice when it doesn't end up looking good on you
>>
>>8990797
yeah... like, we keep hearing the economy's supposedly gotten better (in the US at least, anyway) but then shit like this happens which makes one wonder
>>
>>8990638

Only once and much regrets to be honest.

If I have my heart set on a certain colorway, cut, or both. I only hunt for that version. I know I wont be 100% happy if I just settle for something else. I recently got a dream dress of mine but thankfully I liked 3 of its colorways, so it makes it a bit easier to get.
>>
>>8990847

Speaking about economy stuff.... Does anyone else feel sort of bad spending so much money overseas? Any money that I spend for fun (not bills, food, etc) is almost always from China or Japan. Even a lot of gifts I buy are overseas since my friends have nerdy interests, I can find good deals online, or online just has cooler things.

If I was rich I would try to buy more shit from within my country.
>>
>>8990866
i feel bad about this also. i make up for it by buying indie designer things from my country. nothing as big as a JSK, but accessories, jewelry, and such. i try to thrift often too and avoid spending money on huge corporations.

hit up vintage or craft markets, and prioritize AAs over dealer's room when you go to cons. your dollar will be more likely to help a fellow citizen that way (even if they source their mats from China or Japan... they still gotta pay bills locally).
>>
>>8990866
I think about that sometimes too, but then I realize there's usually a local type of lolita store you can support. I live in the US, so I try to buy from the AP USA, both the BtSSB stores, and places like Tokyo Rebel.

I love what spending enablers you are.

I've always thought of Mana as a funny figure in lolita like Mr. Yan.

In a lolita music thread awhile ago, someone linked a Malice Mizer album and fuck, I was hooked. My love for Malice Mizer has grown considerably the last couple of months even though I'm not into the gothic aesthetic at all. It made me really respect Mana, holy shit. I want to buy this bolero because I've never given Mana money before..

The funny thing is 10 years ago, my boyfriend at the time linked me a Malice Mizer video, but I wasn't into lolita and only into girly shit. I wrote it off as weird very quickly. I wish I wasn't so close minded back then.

not a newfag but very new to gothic, used to be a sweet ita mess when i was much younger. is mmm known for having restrictive measurements? i'm devoting myself to only eating subway 6 inch sandwiches, pitas with minimal fattening ingredients, and bland diet food until i get back to the weight i was back then. i'm concerned though because even when i was skinny/average my bone structure makes me have weirdly chubby wrists and huge hips. i also had huge boobs when i was skinnier but they're going to be all disgusting and saggy after i lose weight so i really want a breast reduction but idk if it will be worth it if i can't fit into one of my new favourite brands... if worst comes to worst i can just trigger my eating disorder on purpose and bully myself into becoming too thin i guess
sorry for rambling i'm just very nervous that i'll be too huge for brand even if i lose all the weight and then some, feels really bad honestly

I'm still trying to convince myself that the black will pop up eventually.
In th meantime I'm incredibly tempted to get the white one, even though I don't think I'd wear it.

does anyone have tips for keeping cool in gothic or should i just give up on the idea of wearing it in hotter months? i can't really dress for the weather because i have disgustingly deep self harm scars all up my wrists and a few nasty even huger ones on my thighs. they're not the kind of scars that people can just ignore, at least in my mind. they look like ugly horrible worms.
>>
>>8991166
Quite obviously I can't see them but I honestly doubt they look as bad as you think they do. In any case you should be proud of overcoming self-harm.
As for keeping cool, I recommend thinner tights and perhaps a parasol?
>>
>>8991166
Chiffon blouses or wear a very light cotton sweater over the top for more casual.
>>
>>8991166
Cotton. Go for cotton. A lot of chiffon blouses are polyester and that'll actually trap body heat.

Make sure you hydrate, carry a fan and parasol if you plan to be outside at all, and skip the full-length stockings or tights.

If you can, find lightweight boleros in place of blouses, since it won't add more layers on top of a JSK, or shoot for long-sleeved, thin cutsews with skirts. h.naoto and a few other brands make "summery" material cutsews out of slubby, printed cottons that might work well, if you're into a more deconstructed look.

>>8991193
thanks so much! <3
i'll put these tips in a text file and save it for future ref. i didn't mention it in the other post because i got so hung up on my scars but i actually get hot flashes due to my birth control (not an option to switch for personal reasons) so it's especially relevant to me, i don't want to leave disgusting sweat stains on everything i wear that isn't pitch black and have all my makeup melt off if i go out irl. i'm thinking because my hot flashes are so unpredictable and severe i might switch to otome or something similar in the summer so i don't end up in public in a flashy style and start wondering if everyone around me is trying not to laugh at me for being sweaty and nasty in such an attention-grabbing style.
>>
>>8991202
I'm primarily into goth myself, but I switch to sailor style during the summer because of the heat. Changing it up a bit so you don't die and only breaking out the goth look when you'll be inside or it's cooler is a good idea.

>>
>>8990181
There's also another site called rabb.it, you can cam, stream stuff and even go live now I think? but I believe there's a limit of people (I'm unsure how many though, 10-20?) But that'd be more useful for streaming one thing to everyone, it doesn't echo as badly as screensharing in google hangouts. And you can take turns controlling the little browser.
>>
>>8990638

Several times, and it's a mixed bag. Some I loved, some I didn't, and one time I realised the dress doesn't actually fit me all that well (IW dress with horrible bodice) so I gave up on the dream dress too.

My advice is to only do it with spare cash, not your dream dress funds. Last thing you want is for your desired colourway to pop up and you're stuck with no funds to buy it because you spent it on the colourway you didn't like.

Still waiting for Chocolate Rosette here.

There's anons waiting for Cinema Doll.

>>

Ngl, I'm not even freaking out. Good luck to everyone who wants it. I might reconsider if they are doing an MTO
>>

>>
>>8991206
Might not want to do a MTO because they had those crazy problems with the HL mis-printed socks? They might want to do "small" batches rather have 100000+ and then realise something has gone wrong
>>
>>8990644
Kind of related to this...

But what colours do you wish brands would use more often?

I'd like to see more rich purples, teals, and vibrant jeweltones. I'd also like to see some darker or cooler reds. Most brands' idea of wine red is a bit too warm for my liking.
>>
>>8991206
Do you think it'll hold up it's value or will it sell for retail now?
Also, in which order will the cuts and colorways probably sell out?
>>
>>8991270
I don't like the sound of any of those for sweet, really. That all sounds very suited for classic.
>>
>>8991276
I feel like it could work really nicely for Baby's style of sweet, honestly. But yeah, I wear gothic and classic, so I'm obviously biased towards that direction.

What unusual colours do you want to see in sweet? People used to talk about peaches and orange a lot, but the few times they've been used it seems like it met a lot of criticism.
>>
>>8991276
AP has done quite a few successful sweet jewel tone prints in the past, so it's not totally inconceivable. I just want brands to release more stuff in green.
>>
>>8991279
I personally would like peaches, not so much oranges. Also a key lime colorway seems like it could be super cute with a lot of things, and would give me more satisfaction in my craving for green than mint does.

>>8991280
Maybe I'm just not a huge fan of jewel tones in sweet or something. I'm in no way advocating for just pastel vomit in sweet and most of my wardrobe is ivory, but most of time time I see jewel tone releases for sweet its just sort of "meh".
>>
>>8991206
Will I be able to buy just socks and bows? It's usually ap USA who restricts that right?
If not I may try for the navy jsk, I'm glad they are releasing the cuter cut of it this time!
>>
>>8991270
More greys and bland neutrals. My favorite color is that weird greige that Victorian Maiden likes to use, but I want to see it on something fancier than the stuff that they usually put out.
>>
>>8991270
I agree with the reds, I want a nice rich burgandy color. The darker wine reds we see currently end up looking almost brownish.
More charcoal or not quite black tones would be nice too especially for blouses and accessories.
>>
>>8991270
More green. Any other shade than mint, it barely even counts. Teal as well. More of those warm jewel toned greens that were once more common in MM and VM clothes. The hunt is eternal. I would also like to see more rich purples and orange. There's so much that could be done with greys like >>8991289 says.

But then, I'm bitter because pastels don't suit me at all.
>>
>>8991116

I have Silent Night which was white chiffon. It's fully lined and fairly opaque. I didn't try to wear black underwear under mine to test if black would show through, though.
>>
>>8991286

You'll be able to buy socks and bows seperately without the main piece from AP jp, yes.

Source: only ended up with one headbow from one of the bloodbaths. Thank god it went to MTO shortly after, that was the saddest little haul ever.
>>
>>8991270
Royal purple, wines/bordeux/burgundy, teal and emerald green, sapphire blue. In short more jewel tones. I'm very much the gothic fan obviously.

I'd also like to see more brands release special lines, but instead of it being special MTO ruffle monsters like Baby does I'd rather see a focus on material choice for classic cuts. Think a special release of AatP's Gathered Chiffon or Miranda done in silk, rather than the usual poly.
>>
>>8991206
I will never understand why this print is so popular. I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't have guessed that it's had so many rereleases.
>>
>>8991342
Adding on that I know 4 O'clock does that but she won't make replicas and I'm not even sure she does much with Lolita anymore.
>>
>>8990761
Just search for brands insetad. Many girls don't even use the lolita tag anymore because it's so shitty and they don't want to be associated with it.
>>
>>8991347
I tag my outfits with the main piece brand name for this exact reason. It helps you avoid being reblogged or seen by fetish people, too.
>>
>>8991206

>Superior JSK cut is back

>>
>>8991347

>tfw the mary magdalene tag is filled with christian posts and edgy feminists

Any way we can make a tag exclusively for mary magdalene, the brand?
>>
>>8991356
I mean, you can't stop other people from using the tag in that way. And I don't think you can get everyone to agree on a new tag to use for MM. So probably not.
>>
>>8991360

I just feel like I'm missing out on MM posts or I'm trawling through a bunch of trash to get it. At least with the lolita fashion tag it gets aggregated with everything else. And that doesn't even get into having to search five tags for coords.

I know I'm whining about shit I can't control but goddamnit why the fuck did nymphette shit have to shit everything up.
>>
>>8991347
Speaking of this, I really wish I could start an account on Instagram going on pictures tagged with "lolita fashion" that's actually stupid nymphette ageplay DDLG bullshit saying like "cool but use your own tag please". I know no one has any rights to tag but "Lolita fashion" was a thing before nymphette whatever fashion became a trend. Alas, I'm way too much of a pussy plus I feel like an account like that might be kinda dumb. I just have a huge grudge, admittedly.

That said, I know on IG at least me and other people use "eglcommunity" and EGL as tags.
>>
>>8991105
>I imagine it's still got hype in china judging by the amount of replicas and knockoff prints I see sold on taobao.
FUCKING THIS. And then they go straight to everyone's god damn storenvy.
>>
>>8991378
I have to wonder if the ageplay/nymphette posters look up the lolita fashion tag and question why there are frilly dresses mixed in with that tag. I really want to reclaim the lolita hashtag bc I'm tired of the ageplay nympho bullshit. They should start their own.

Orange and peach I would love. I also agree about the other anon about green. I'd love to see a more light "true green" than the mint we have now. I'm personally not a fan of mint and it can often look too much like the sax colorway.

Plus I think green in sweet could make for some interesting themes, like clover fields or something

There's other lolitas on weekends, if you don't want to feel alone. I mean, it's not like they'll come over and sing kumbaya or anything, but you won't be the only one doing the full poof n frills, if that's something that will make you feel better. Also saw a couple with the girl in full shironuri once.

The shops are really narrow, however, so maybe rethink your poof if you want to go into most of them.

>>

>>
>>8991563

>>8991563

Well, I'm not really sure if all the girls I saw were locals or Chinese lolitas. But, Harajuku is slightly different from everywhere else in Japan.

La Foret is in Harajuku, and almost all the brand shops are in the basement. Takeshita Doori is one street over and has Bodyline, Closet Child and lots of cutesy little jfash shops. It's almost the trading hub of everything lolita, so I can see how girls would dress up in lolita to visit lolita stores to buy more lolita.

Additionally, I don't think cosplayers hang out in Yoyogi Park anymore, but some weekends there are people with big cameras, and you can see Harajuku in the background of some of the street snaps. So streetsnaps do still happen in Harajuku, and people would be willing to get dressed up in hopes of getting streetsnapped, I guess.

Takeshita Doori/La Foret basement is actually the only place I'm willing to guarantee you'll see lolitas, and even that only on weekends. Places like Shinsaibashi/Amerimura in Osaka and Christon Cafe also attract full poof lolitas, but it's not as sure as Harajuku.

Check here:
http://sakizo.jp/shop.html

There are four shops that she has linked in the menu on the right hand side. The first is Alice Books. The second (http://www.tougenkyou.jp/) is in Osaka. The third (http://www.keibunsha-bambio.com/html/page13.html) is near Nagaoka. The fourth (http://www.estrellas.info/shop/) is Estrellas in Okinawa.

She also does market and doujin events in Japan pretty regularly, selling in person. If you follow her on Twitter, she'll post when she's going to be where. She's at Comitia in Tokyo today, for example.
