I always try to be nice anyway but I'm really bad at faking facial expressions, so when a complete ita comes up to me they can probably tell from my face alone that I think their outfit is terrible no matter how friendly I try to be. It's a good thing I don't go to anime cons, otherwise I would probably be known as "that elitist bitch lolita" in no time. My cosplaying friend told me that lolitas in my area have a snooty/elitist reputation in our con scene already and I wouldn't help matters.

I'm a mod of my community so... I can't be a bitch. But generally instead of complimenting their outfit, I'll find something that I like or say something positive even if it's not about them. For example, if they're wearing a bad replica, I'll say "I really love Milky Planet, that's such a cute print". Or I'll say "Isn't wearing this fun?" Something like that.

Eventually the people may or may not find our comm and may start showing interest in improving. So I think it's best to give a positive influence. Or they may never improve and always be a con ita.

A lot of times, they'll ask me for advice and politely lay it on. Like "corset lacing like that actually goes in the back, so you're wearing your dress backwards." or "I know that you're trying to save money and lolita can be expensive, but it's constructed very poorly, and the money you spent on that could actually go toward something that looks much nicer and you'll be much happier with." and then give advice where to find things, give them my contact info for questions, etc. I also tend to do panels as well and go over examples of poor to great quality, saving money, bargain hunting, finding things for various sizes, etc.

I've helped a few girls improve drastically by doing this. But some are still wearing backwards bodyline and bad replicas. Whatever. lol.

So yeah the horrible thoughts cross my mind, but I don't really express them.

The REALLY disgusting thing here is that these people grew up in societies/families that encouraged/provoked them growing up with unhealthy food and never learning how to live an at least marginally healthy life. I can usually find something to compliment them on. Even if it's something like 'That wig really suits you' or 'I really like that print' it tends to make them happy, especially if they're clearly new/young lolitas. I've had a few elitist itas (the brand-is-overpriced-I-wear-besdheets-and-Milanoo-only kind) get pissy because I didn't rave about how amaaazing their hotglued creations were after they deigned to compliment my handmade stuff, but they're pretty hard to come by and most of the time the itas I come across are enthusiastic newbies. I love going to ren fairs every year but I just cant imagine being willing to risk wearing lolita to one. Its dusty, dirty, sometimes even muddy. To watch shows youre sitting on things that may snag your dress or just be bad in general.

I mean maybe if youre going to wear cheap bodyline to it, but theres just way too much risk involved.

I love wearing dresses to them but I always wear ones I buy at the fair that are made to be able to get a little muddy and shit without being ruined and fit the theme.

I don't understand why everyone gets so pissy whenever the subject changes to something controversial. Especially when it's something relating directly to lolita (e.g. fatties wearing lolita/jfash). If this was an in-person discussion, that would just be the flow of conversation. IMO, listening to and discussing the opinions of others on something other than the same-old same-old is more interesting. I guess this depends on the area/Faire because I usually wear lolita to my local Faire (since it's pretty much my daily clothes and people there seem to really like it) and it's no more dirty or hot or muddy than going to the park. Benches are generally clean, and if I have to sit somewhere that might be dirty I always have a little blanket with me to protect my clothes.
Depending on the Faire though lolita might be frowned upon, since some of them try to be more historically accurate.

Having a little blanket to sit on is a great idea though and may make the idea of wearing it less risky.

I dunno about others but the ones here are just huge dirt grounds, theres really no stone pathways or grass or anything so its just a lot of dirt getting kicked around by a lot of people. I once lost a shoe to a mud puddle once after it rained.

It's likely a replica, and a replica made for someone quite plus sized on someone who is not. The original version might be a little loose on her but not too bad. The fit is awfully loose and frumpy like a 6 year old playing dress up in her mom's clothes. She could get it taken in, and it would look better. But it would still be a frumpy replica.

-The carousel on her head is absurdly large with nothing to balance it out (prominent hair accessories usually look much better on big hair), it looks ridiculous in all the wrong ways
-Wig is tacky in color and texture, not voluminous enough to balance the accessories, and doesn't look good with the rest of the coord
-Accessorizing on her head is generally bad (the accessories themselves are too OTT to be considered simple, but they're too lacking to be OTT)
-Cardigan is too simple (probably offbrand), doesn't work with the coord
-The JSK is INCREDIBLY ill fitting - It's hanging off of her as if it isn't zipped. Ill fitting clothing always look terrible regardless of whether they're too small or too big for the wearer
