How would prints look with like, unicorns and mermaids? Obviously with menhera elements.
>>
>>8973639
no reason it couldn't work . Decapitated unicorn heads and gutted mermaid could be neat

The gutted mermaid look reminds me of this image. I forget the artist but its some asian guy that everyone on /ic/ has a huge boner for.

Anyways cool image. Would be neat to have menhera style mermaids that are being prepped for food or maybe being caught by a fishing rod
>>

Haha I was about to ask who the artist was but from your description, I think the name is Kim Jung gi?

the art on this is so terribly done i don't know if I should be offended or sad
>>
>>8974630
That's just the drawing style of the series.
>>
Most of menhera art is quite minimalistic in the first place.

Found this on TB:
https://world.taobao.com/item/529242899349.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7700824.w4004-10481543171.26.oj97cw
>>
>>8974634
While it may be stylized a certain way, the proportions don't make sense(it looks like they started from the bottom up which always turns out abysmal.) The middle is the worst offender of this, where she looks like the upper half is 2x the size of the lower. Not to mention the train wreck of the lineart. I don't mind quirky stylized artwork, but effort needs to be put into it.
>>
>>8971856
take your made up rules and shove them up your ass
>>
>>8974639
I don't see any problem with it besides the wide armpit part, that's just how the series's style is (minus the quality loss that was made by enlarging the image but that's OP's fault).
>>

>get called gross in last thread for buying guro stuff from taobao

>rules
I didn't say you can't, just that you shouldn't
You're free to do whatever you like, I just think that they should be aware that cgl is not a hugbox like tumblr, and unless you post something decent you're going to get a bit of rude comments
Which to me is good. Either you learn from those comments, and get better, or you go back to crying on tumblr or facebook and cgl doesn't get flowed with shitty snowflakes
>>
>>8974864
Well that's fine if you don't personally see anything wrong with it, but I do. I could redline a bunch of the errors if you'd like so you can see what is wrong with the proportions of it. I'm not trying to pass unfair judgement on it, but it is questionable quality. I work on stuff like this as a job, and I can see where people could notice the odd proportions and line art that the piece is composed of.

Some quick examples without doing any line art being the left girls front leg being in the wrong position, the center girl having arms as wide as her thighs, and the width of the rights leg that is supposed to be farther back is larger than the one intended to be closer to us. Not to mention the length of the arms should end half way to the knee, and these seem to go well beyond that.
>>
>>8974888
You don't think it's okay to wear older stuff?
>>
>>8974896
>cgl doesn't get flowed with shitty snowflakes
it is though.
>>
>>8974957
There is a proper way to wear accessories. The skeletion clips were so oddly place just because someone didn't want to cut the bangs on a wig properly and used the clips to hold the fringe.

Taobao isn't a bad place to buy, hell a lot of gulls buy from there in huge amounts but you have to check if something is quality and doesn't look that you bought it off the 99 cents rack from the halloween store that is on clearence.
>>
>>8975001
What is a better way to wear them?
>>
>>8974922
no1curr
>>
>>8975114
If you didn't care why explain it? I was pointing out why an anon said it was bad, to someone said they thought it was fine.

I understand you like menhera-chan but that doesn't make it good art quality.
>>
>>8975067
They should not hold not hold together an uncut fringe first off. Just cut the fringe or get someone professional to do it because uncut bangs look lazy and horrible.
The clips should be treated like bows in a way. I will post some examples I found with a simple google search, it's not hard to find pictures of which way they look good and which way the look horrible. You can use them to pull hair away from your face like a bobby pin but there is a way to make it look decent.
>>
>>8975648
>>8975067

A cute idea but the buns should be more even and less sloppy.

With just these two examples, I am sure you can figure out what to do.

What are the differences between Gurokawa and Menhera? Is it just that the latter uses pills, band-aids, syringes and maybe crosses/religious symbols as motifs, while the former focuses on, well, guro, or is it more than that?
Though the two both fall into an overarching "girly macabre" theme and might overlap at times, from the way people talk, I'm guessing they're not interchangeable.
Also, does the "baby art" scene (eg artists like Mark Ryden and Trevor Brown) fall into it?

You pretty much answered your own question
Descriptions from last thread
>>
>>8976138
>>8976144
Gurokawa vs Menhera is:
psychological horror (fears, negativity) vs physical horror (slaughter, monsters)
making gore appear cute vs cute characters doing scary things

Some article about Menhera's aesthetics (that woman always calls everything subculture, it's annoying but it's a nice article outside of that):
http://www.tokyofashiondiaries.com/yami-kawaii-subculture/
>>
>>8976138
Menhera is actually fashion inspired by the unspoken mental illness/depression/suicide rates in Japan. Not in a good way, but as a coping mechanism. So it has themes based off of that stuff.
It's not necessarily horror or anything like that. That's more Gurokawa. As the word guro suggests, lots of gore.
>>
I'm almost finished translating chapter 3 of Menhera-Chan, would you guys prefer a dump or an imgur link?
>>
>>8976239
>coping mechanism
Kek, sounds like Tumblr bullshit.
>>
>>8976251
imgur please and thank you
>>
I keep becoming more fascinated with menhera because >>8976239 basically is me and lately shit has been bad so I'm getting drawn to this more and more. I've actually been making things with a "cute but sick" theme for a long time, so I guess it's kinda cool to see that's actually a "thing."

>>8976259
Tumblr actually hates menhera because it's "making fun of/appropriating the mentally ill"
>>
>>8976259
Not the same anon but it actually kind of got its origin in Tumblr considering that 90% of the japanese artists and brands are on there due to Tumblr's popularity steady increasing in Japan.

(Menhera-chan's artists talks about it in some interview too, how the whole sickcute thing got coined inspired by Tumblr > http://jagzzi.xyz/interview/bisko/ )

Preorders anon here for an update to all who don't follow my social media. They sent me the remakes which were terrible. Pic related. The bleeding is even worse. The boss told me he would supervise for quality on these ones. And yet these ones are worse than the previous bad batch. I sent them an email. I'm very furious bc I know you guys are waiting. I haven't heard back from them yet though. I just wanted to apologize and thank you guys again for being patient and understanding. This process with them has been a nightmare and I'm in disbelief at how it's been playing out. If you guys have questions feel free to ask.
>>
>>8977071
Closeups? These look fine but it could just be my display
>>
>>8977074
That bleed you see on the front side, where you can see the back design, that's not just the transparency of the socks, the actual print is bleeding onto each side of the sock designs.

>>8977071
Thanks for keeping us updated. I really appreciate your commitment to quality control, even it means I'm probably not getting my order until summer (I'm the one who pm'd you on etsy about maybe having to change my shipping address due to delays)
>>
>>8977130
Hey preorder anon, can I buy one of these? I know they are ugly but I am willing to buy them at a lower price just to get to have them.
>>
>>8976134
I'm unsure why I would need to chill. I was explaining why it is bad quality to someone who said they didn't see why. If anything the original anon who commented on the quality of it would be the one that needs to calm down, or the people who keep acting like I am shitting on menhera-chan. I in fact like it as a series, but objectively as someone who is well versed in proportions and line art I can with confidence say based on the proportions and lack of consistency the series displays it has poor quality illustrations. Doesn't mean it's not cute and enjoyable.
>>
>>8977173
No prob! I will update again once I get a reply back from them.
>>8977280
I need to figure out what I'm doing with these ones first. No selling as of right now.
>>
>>8977280
Seconding this, if you have any leftovers that are bad, I'd be willing to buy them! I'm super sad because I missed the preorders, so if you're just gonna toss them, I'd be really happy if you'd consider selling them instead
>>
>>8976354
>>8976389
Glad you like it! I'll get on with chapter 4 this week.
>>8977280
Same, I'd buy a pair of the stripy ones.
>>
>>8977300
Chill.
>>
>>8977071
I know loads of people are going to ask to buy these but from someone who preordered back in March please just send these out with the hair clips or coupon thing like you posted before. I'm not mad at you I just think it's time to lay down your sword and shield with this manufacturer .
>>
>>8977470
I disagree. Yes, I'm frustrated that I have over $100 of merchandise in the mail that's been delayed due to quality issues, especially when some people have already received their preorders, but I rather wait a little longer for better quality
>>
>>8977501
I completely respect your opinion but I can feel cheezy's frustration with the manufacturer. If getting this thigh High fiasco done helps her get on with producing more projects then I'll take a product with slight issue. But I do understand wanting a well made product.
>>
>>8977363
Stop projecting.
>>
>>8977470
I feel the same as you anon. It sucks that the socks keeps getting fucked up during the printing process but I am getting frustrated that I won't get my socks for another good while but we aren't entitled for the perorder anon to give us something for waiting, sometimes an apology is enough. However I do feel like this waiting game is getting pretty frustrating
>>
>>8977560
Dont get me wrong, I only brought up the hair clip thing because the artist posted that as an idea ( it was since removed I think) . I don't think anyone is entitled to anything beyond what they paid for here.
>>
>>8977470
>>8977501
>>8977515
>>8977560
>>8977574
Oh wow! I'm really sorry everyone, the reason why I've been trying to sort this out with the manufacturer is because I figured you guys would rather a good product with a longer wait than a bad one. I really didn't want to give you guys something that wasn't up to standard. But I just want to do what you gulls want me to. If I didn't receive a response by tomorrow from my manufacturer I was just going to send the products out with a coupon plus free hair clips and handwritten apologies. I'm really sorry again guys I know it sucks, I'm trying my best. If you guys want me to send them tomorrow please let me know and I will send them all out in the morning. Thank you again everyone!
>>
>>8977613
Dont worry cheezy, I think everyone here supports you and I don't think anyone is upset with you, just frustrated at your side. Do what you think is best / will allow you to continue making awesome stuff for this small community.
>>
>>8977613
I support you with it. It's not your fault, just unfortunate.
>>
>>8977613
I actually don't think that the manufacturer is neccessary at fault but the color considering how often people complain on here about red-tone prints bleeding all the time (strawberry print dresses seem to be the most mentioned).
>>
>>8977613
So I know some people already received their preorders, did the first batch of tights nor have issues?
>>
>>8977628
>>8977634
>>8977712
>>8977727
Thanks gulls! You guys helped me make these things come to life, I appreciate the support! See my frustration with the socks was I ordered the 1st big batch of all the designs. And for the most part they were fine but for 2 designs about %25-75 of the socks were bled on both sides like pics posted above. So I did receive in the initial order, some socks that looked fine no problems that were those 2 designs. So I don't get why they can't make them all consistently good. Like I could understand if a couple turned out bad that's why I order extra. But when I received the remakes that were supposedly overlooked for quality and they ALL had bleeding on both sides, more than last time. I'm thinking....what? Idk how the printing process works. But I don't understand why I received a few good ones initially and the rest were bad? I also placed an order 3 weeks ago for the rest of the 1st edition designs. (the people who ordered at the end of march) But they still haven't processed let alone printed those yet. I'm assuming if it's like last time, they don't buy the socks until I've placed the order. Then they wait 2 weeks to get their sock shipment then they take a week to print mine. Then it takes a week to get to me. So I'm assuming I should be getting those in 2 weeks. Every time I ask about how things are going, they'll massively underestimate to me about how long something takes. It's really annoying.
>>
>>8977727
Mine were okay, and held up in the wash.

>>8977747
Just want to say thank you for at least trying to do this. It's a shame you can't make it work out and that they are such a shit company. I hope you can find another way to put out clothing as I'd really like to purchase more from you in the future as I love your art!
I really enjoyed the shirt and socks I got as well as the cute little drawing you included!
>>
>>8977867
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your order. I'm trying to find some local print shops to perhaps take my business of custom socks and tights to. I'm going to make some call this week, so we will see where that goes.

Quite a lot, I guess? But obviously not high heels considering the theme is sickness and I doubt somebody sick would wear uncomfortable shoes. Most common seem to be sneakers and heelless/solid platform shoes (likely because they make the legs appear thinner), sometimes with plush added.

Menhera thread newfag detected.

The whole point of Menhera-chan is that it critizes japanese society for the pressure it puts on people to keep the system going (which drives people into self-harm and suicide), you can also read about the background on its wikipedia page, it's the same way as it is with Zetsubou-sensei.

I just got my socks and they are lovely! The design does look cute in person though now I see the bleeding due to printing more clearly than the picture that was posted here. They are thin, idk if they will snag on something if it happens but I like them. I love the small gift of the two hairclips and the drawing (planning to frame it somewhere since it's cute and simple).

Anyone has tips on how to prevent the socks from rolling down where the band on top is? I made sure I was am able to wear the socks from the sizing listed so they fit me well. Idk if I am pulling them too high which causes the rolling or if I just have tree trunk legs. Would sock glue help make the socks stay up?
>>
>>8981803
I just wear mine with a garterbelt that got silicone clips.

>>
>>8982604
Nope, it's water soluble!
>>
>>8982607
So even though it's water soluble, sweat and skin moisture won't cause it to slide off? As we're heading into summer, that's my main concern

Have any of you gulls planned any coords with your Cherrycheezy socks?
I'm getting some, but I haven't decided on which ones, and I'm thinking about what to wear with them, so I was just curious what you gulls have thought up
>>
>>8984122
Sort of. I got some in the mail recently and have a bunch more still in the mail (for a total of 4 pairs of thigh highs and one pair of tights) but I'm not sure how to coord it. I also have one of Cherry's medicine girl shirts and syringe necklaces in the mail. My main issue right now is not having matching shoes. I put in a small taobao order recently for a pair of simple Mary Janes and those winged creepers
Basically, I bought a lot of socks on impulse and didn't really think about coording them
>>
>>8984136
Haha, yeah it's pretty much the same for me
I'll probably try to get something cheap to match to begin with, because I don't really have that much money to spend, and I had other things that I planned to buy... So we'll see!

Are there any other shoe recommendations that won't cover up tights so much? I'm thinking mary jane styled shoes would work but other suggestions would be great in general, since all of these tights are too cute to not show off

This is probably going to sound silly, but I'm really unsure of how to put together a menhera coord. I'm really tempted to preorder some sweet thighhighs from cherrycheezyshop but I don't know what I'd pair them with (I'll probably get them anyway though).

Could I build such a look around a longsleeve sailor uniform, maybe? Sorry if I'm being vague, I'm really new to menhera as a whole and feeling a little lost. I'm used to fashion that's a little formulaic but I'm slowly breaking out of that. Also I feel like wearing one menhera thing with something that's too normie might look really bad.

Alternatively, if there's like an outfit sharing place anywhere, that'd be a really big help. Sorry for the long post!
>>
>>8985541
Remember, this is a casual fashion. What you mostly need is just elements that show the menhera aspect. A school uniform is used a lot and just adding some thigh highs or socks that show the menhera aspect, a necklace like the syringes or a pill, etc is enough to be menhera.

I think the difficult part of this fashion is that many here are coming from other fsshions that are more ott and have a set of rules while menhera is just casual that only needs the elements to be menhera.
>>
>>8985706
>I think the difficult part of this fashion is that many here are coming from other fsshions that are more ott and have a set of rules while menhera is just casual that only needs the elements to be menhera.

>>
>>8990085
They were widely used until ~1950 when they were all outlawed, near the defeat of Japan in WW2. The reason is because the Japanese government gave them to soldiers as methamphetamine pills and they were taking off in public spaces and with japan's workaholic culture they would quickly lead to social devastation, supposedly.

Right now there are some efforts to get weaker stimulants such as Ritalin rescheduled for people with ADD. Its interesting history but right now stims are very taboo in japan, though i'm sure ice (shabu) is very plentiful there through non-medicinal channels.

More importantly, for menhera-chan it simply means she's crazy enough that she needs pills to reign in her psychosis, i'm sure japanese society is stimulating enough lol

Back on the topic of menhera, I'm wondering what color I should do byojaku with since that seems to be the most common makeup to wear with style (and it's cute as fuck). I'm white but my skin has a strong orange undertone, do you think a true red would be too intense? >>
>>8991142
You might be able to bring them in depending on what exactly you need to take.

I friend of mine needed to bring prescription medication with a high level of codeine with her to Japan so she filled out one of these forms and they gave her the OK.

Menhera is the word for mental health and was adapted by a fashion, and I somehow doubt that the haircut being labeled as menhera came before the fashion. It is fine if you like menhera, but the curved side pieces have existed in Lolita way before menhera existed as a trend.

If it coloured resin then the colour will show up lightly and look a bit "frosty". Basically it won't appear clear but some colour should show, but not detail. (if that's what you're wondering)

Also i'm sad that Mahou Shoujo Site hasn't updated in a while. Is/was anyone planning any cosplays from it? I was thinking about Ringa Sayuki.

Yeah, because Tumblr is totally not flooded by SJW that permanently cause shitstorms and harass people accusing them of that while they don't even do.

I guess for most people it was more than one thing. For example, I've been following lots of artist for years and they would often post the typical cute pastel animu art but sometimes with the negativity that you don't see at first glance. Pic related was the first piece to make me think there must be some japanese fashion with this theme too.
>>
>>8995173
I've always loved the idea of weird things in cute places, like monsters -actual things that irl would scare you, not hot/kaguaii guys/bitches with horns and cat ears- in a field of flowers or amputees using cute clothes and such.
>>
>>8995173
For me, I actually have a huge obsession with psychological disorders (and also serial killers for some reason) and really like cute clothing. Bam put both of em together.
I don't personally have any illness, though.
>>
regarding the whole tumblr thing: yeah people shit themselves over the mental illness part but at the same time i'm also seeing a handful of tumblr otherkin identifying as menhera-chan and i do not want to detail this thread with identity politics/otherkin debate but it's nice to see that people are finding menhera-chan relatable i guess? even if they are taking it to an absurd, bizarre, extreme.
i absolutely adore the cute medical aspect of menhera (crosses, syringes, pills, etc) as I've had a fixation with medical things for a while now, i'm not a fan of the self harm and suicidal imagery however (razor blades, nooses, etc)
>>

I'm not sure what sparked my interest in Menhera for sure, but after seeing it and being able to relate to the kind of message it was trying to get across with Menhera-chan, etc, I really got into it. It feels nice having something that really feels 'me', even with Tumblrtards running around.

I've always had a thing for being a edgelord (used to be pretty emo back in the early-mid 2000s, I've been depressed and unmediated for as long as I can remember, I like guro and look at it pretty often, I'm very much into medical imagery due to being hospitalized young), and I'm a weeb, so it's pretty much right up my alley. I used to follow lots of artists who draw images with a very menhera feel, and then stumbled upon this and now my wallet is crying.
>>

Don't be so assblasted someone doesn't like one piece of clothing in the thread, jesus. You don't have to like everything to like a fashion.

I don't care much for the look of that particular piece myself, but I do like menhera in general.
>>
>>8996923
try armwarmers? some menhera brands even make them. if those are too emo for you you could try thin, semi-transparent, or otherwise lightweight fabric for long sleeve shirts. or lots of bracelets. i see that a lot too. for legs, depending on the position of your scars, you could try lightweight tights or otks/thigh highs. or you could just say fuck it and let your scars be free. i see a lot of kids with self harm scars showing at my school because i think the stigma society has against mental illness is slowly lowering (it's also an art school so it's pretty liberal)

Ever since I was a kid I loved medical stuff, but in a cute form. I'd eat Mike'n'Ike candy pretending they were pills, or mix "love medicine" of out cream soda, etc. It probably started with having one of those cutesy doctor's kits as a toddler and went on from there.
There's just something very pleasing about mixing the 'clean' aspect of the medical industry, the comforting feeling of pills and medical tools 'fixing' you, and the sweet softness of cute things.

I also have a few mental illnesses and personality disorders so it's definitely a coping mechanism too, I'm sure. I wonder what sort of illnesses are most common for those of us who are drawn to the fashion? I have rapid cycling bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, maladaptive daydreaming, agoraphobia, avoidant personality disorder, and dependant personality disorder. I think that's majorly what draws me to pastel and cutesy fashion, it just feels very soft and comforting like a warm blanket that can help me just relax and forget for a while.
> Hopefully listing my stuff doesn't come across as Tumblr-ey, but none of this is self-diagnosed, and we're all anonymous here anyways.

>>

>>
>>8998122
I'm definitely behind peers my age in terms of achievements, but I try to keep moving forwards and I have a really amazing support system that I'm really grateful for. Going on the right medication definitely helped by leaps and bounds. The list seems big, but a lot of disorders are comorbid to each other. Like APD and maladaptive daydreaming, or PTSD and agoraphobia. Treat one, the others alleviate slightly.

>>8998130
Thanks, non. Appreciate it.
Jokes aside, I guess it would seem like a volatile combination but I've known people much more terrible than me with only a few disorders. I've never once thrown a ragefit or harmed another person, but I once had a best friend who burst into tears and threw herself to the ground screaming in public when she heard I'd made friends at my new school and refused to speak to me for weeks. She was only diagnosed with one thing, but it's the severity of those illnesses that is important. The dose makes the poison, etc.
The worst I've done is to myself, and I outgrew the "revenge self-harm to guilt people" phase years ago. My stuff just manifests itself in self-sabotage and inability to properly live and take care of myself as an adult, and I'd never dream of having a child until I was able to get over that and be a proper parent to them.

> Sage because this is barely marginally related.
>>
>>8998170
Did you read my post, anon?
> I outgrew the "revenge self-harm to guilt people" phase years ago.
I haven't self-harmed in nearly a decade, and I wouldn't dream of doing it ever again. I could never hurt my parents or fiance like that.
And do you think you're the only one who's had a mentally ill parent? Do you think these issues just popped up out of nowhere? I understand you've been through a lot, but please don't lecture strangers on things they probably already know. My father's extreme mental illness and eventual suicide are what caused my PTSD in the first place, along with its comorbid symptoms and personality issues.
I have never mentally or physically harmed another person, let alone a child, and never would I dream of doing that. And, again, I haven't hurt myself in almost ten years. I understand you've had negative experiences with the mentally ill, but don't put hundreds of thousands of people in a box of being unredeemable just because of that. I didn't choose to be born the way I was, or go through what I've gone through, and neither of those things would make me an inherently bad parent. Maybe if I was unwilling to work on myself or improve, your worries would be valid, but I do my best every single day to move forwards and recover.
>>
>>8998170
This. I watched my mom cut her wrists in front of my dad when I was five.

That was no environment for a child.
>>
>>8998189
I'm sure you're in therapy and that your therapist has explained that in order to work through things, it takes lots of time - years. You've already knocked one of your problems out, but that took a decade apparently. How old are you gonna be when you have kids? What about the person you are with?

Why not just not have them?
>>
>>8998198

Why not fuck off?
>>
>>8998198
I... anon, really? Of course I'm aware it takes years to work through issues. Also, it didn't take me a decade to stop self harming, I said I haven't self-harmed IN ten years. That was when I was a 10-year-old CHILD, and I just turned 20. My fiance and I have agreed we'd like to have children near our 30s, so that's another decade on top of things. Disorders or no, I would not be fit to parent fresh out of my teens. I really don't know what to say to you. Do you think anybody not branded and sullied by an official diagnosis is some perfect saint fit for parenting, just by the benefit of that alone?
