If I had to make that sword I'd make it into different parts with stiff foam and then apply modge podge (or other foam sealer) then paint and assemble/glue the parts together (or vice versa with painting and assembling the parts)

I'm working on her yoyo, but I'm being really picky with it and trying to make it so that it can close & open and have a separate top piece so I can do the open version with the wings that it has when she releases the butterflies, so it's taking a while. I'm working on Chat's staff too but that's easy so far at least, but I have no idea how to do the paw on the back and spirals on the top since it's made of wood and difficult to engrave in.

Was thining of buying a glossy red zentai suit and maybe painting/stenciling the spots on. Opinions: will a glossy one look bad? I don't know how I could get a similar texture to her suit.

Any tips on what kind of paint to use? I'm looking on zentaizone and zentai-zentai but the stuff looks a little off/ with bad edges. Any gull with website recommendations? Will I have to go on creepy fetish sites?

The suit is Red metallic spandex and the black is the same material. Both have a lot of stretch. With this version I sadly hot glued the spots on due to lack of time but the new version I used heat n' bond which works well if you iron them on while the fabric is stretched(people make the mistake of just ironing them on flat then they fall off when you stretch the suit).

If you aren't going to make it yourself, it'll probably not fit as well as you want no matter where it's from. Also the lack of options for patterns/quality was why I started making my own in Photoshop.

I agree something like this would work but it would have to have the zipper in the back since there's no visible one on Ladybug's front. Anon would need to know how to sew latex in order to make her hands and feet though (and order something in the same color from the same site to use the fabric for), unless she got a custom order or the site sold socks/gloves in the same material.

Hers is zipperless. Fantastic Rubber also does zipperless but when you want to spend a few hours in the suit and nature calls and you got an armband on entry you really don't want to undress completely. With a neck entry suit you need only a short zipper unike the old type suit where you either had a front or back zipper that went all the way to the neck.

You can't sew latex, it has to be glued. If you try, the holes punched by the needle will cause it to rip. You could get matching gloves from just about anywhere. It would be kind of a pain to make your own, but it is possible. For info about gluing latex, google it, or see this link:

It would be expensive, and could easily get sweaty and uncomfortable if the weather is warm, but you'd need something very soft and stretchy to get a perfect fit like in the show, and it's probably the most similar looking material that's easily available.

What's the best fabric in your opinion? (like seriously asking this not trying to sound snobbish)

I chose the fabric I did since I felt it had the same shine in the right places when compared to the fully rendered images they use for promotion and it has the hexagon pattern although they are small.

I do sometimes feel like making a suit out of Yaya's 4 way stretch pleather since I've seen some nice looking suits made from it but I don't feel like it's very accurate. I'm not sure since I made my suit back when the show just aired so I was going off of image related more.

(BTW Im the anon in picture as well as the one that told OP not to worry)

Ladybug's suit has such a bizarre texture. My first though on seeing the hexagons (since those weren't added til later) was internal cos-dread knowing that they would be nearly impossible to find, material wise.

I feel like most of the fabrics I mentioned have their pros/cons:
-Mystique has a pretty close design but seems too shiny and glowy almost?
-The dots >>8947670 are almost... sparky? I'd like to see this in motion to judge better.
-Yaya's doesn't have at all the correct texture (since it has no design at all) but it still looks neat and more professional/heroic than basic spandex.

I've seen metallic foil spandex used too like >>8947850 , which is cool but, again, not quite right.

I feel like there is no way to win so cosplayers are just choosing what they think looks coolest/most aesthetically pleasing/available.

Latex could be an option but doesn't really present anything over the spandexs I've mention and require a more specialized skill set. This pattern >>8952720 is way too large. I don't know enough about latex to know if you can get it custom printed. If so, that could be wonderful. I do have a personal dislike for the way latex seams (are they called that?) look.
I think a couple people have considered getting regular custom printed spandex to get the hexagon designs but those custom print services are always printed (as far as I know) on basic white spandex so they won't have the right shine at all and will be ugly matte and, in my opinion, worse than the plain red spandex since the heavily stretched areas will have a white-ish cast since the fabric is only printed on top.

Okay will totally make sure the second suit addresses that problem. I agree it looks odd but didn't know what to do. Against card stock because of how uncomfortable it is and it really stuck out on my silhouette. Craft foam is a great idea though!

I really spent a very long time researching on Google and asking cosplay.com but no one had a good solution other than cardstock or layering a bunch of clothes under your suit. Probably just not searching for the right thing. (asked a bunch of harley quinns)

Somene different, but I hope the anon's know that super skinny/boney bodies can't really be made to change. Especially in skin tight outfits. Your pelvic area and hips are going to look that way with or without card stock. I personally think it looks fine, if not just make it a little highter and I guess wear a leotard if you are really concerned, but overall this really is fantastic despite the extra fabric.

We know pelvic bones protrude in stretch wear, that isn't the issue. The problem is how low the crotch in her suit is because she is too worried about camel toe. It throws off all of her proportions and makes the silhouette of her entire figure look freakish and unsettling.

Or you can use plastic bottles cut to the shape of a mari paid and stick it there because it's smooth. If you bought your suit then your kinda screwed but NY friends make tons of body suits and never have camel toe issues.

I'm not sure how many of these cosplayers are making their suits vs. buying them from somewhere, but I make those gloves out of tights on commission (the kind Homestuck/SU cosplayers use to avoid getting bodypaint everywhere, bless my customers' souls), and one of the most important parts is to cut a diamond-shaped dart going from the lower palm to about halfway up the forearm, widest where the wrist is thinnest. this prevents that weird saggy bunching effect when you bend your hand forward (for example, to pose with a yoyo). It's such a simple thing but it makes a huge difference.

Well it's not like there's no hope for some more mature merchandise. The show was originally conceived to cater to teens and young adults. They only switched it to kid demographic because of network pressure.

I just think that they want to be careful about how they include older fans to avoid mistakes of other shows. The floods of Sailor Moon stuff marketed towards 20 somethings and up has been highly successful. So it may take some time for them to figure everything out.
