Absolutely no idea desu, I'm pretty sure Manchester has better venues than Sugden Sports Centre- but thinking about it maybe not. GMEX would be way too big for smallish con like Doki which is niche to Japanese culture only.
Kinda awkward when you're walking around in cosplay and people are walking past wondering what the fuck is happening when they go for a workout.

Hey, but just be glad you never experienced the Anime League events held in the Zoo Pub though- literally a tiny bar across the road from Sugden Sports Centre and Mike Towers was bragging on FB about over 300 people being expected to turn up to his event there. 300 weeby kids in a tiny student bar. Was he having a fucking laugh?
In fact-maybe that's why hardly anyone turned up to MAGC today. They experienced AL's shit first hand and close up.

The sports centre has lots of space. It's not cramped like some other cons. Hopefully more people will be there tomorrow.

I'm running a stall at MAGC. It's been a good con so far. Lots of young people with less families than other cons. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

I think having an AL con in the same sports centre as doki doki was a lame attempt to capitalise on their success and compete with them along with kita

As of Saturday...

Pros:
-Day time hentai panel during was actually hella fun. More like that please.
-Saturdays setlists was actually fairly good. A lot of cheese which got people up and dancing.
-Very little truely God awful cosplay.
- More attractive con attendees, fewer average.

Cons:
-Friday's setlists were dire.
-Many of the gophers particularly insufferable this year.
-The evening hentai panel was terrible again.
-Hilton prices.
-General sentiment about the Hilton's rules.
-Little to no truely breathtaking cosplay.
- More ugly as fuck attendees too.
- Half of the male cosplayers are unconvincing crossdressers.
-The artwork! Jesus Christ. Worst badge. Ever.
- Anything that needs improvisation and people to protect at any point.

I think there were some really decent cosplayers about today. That Team Magma group were pretty good (with the spot-on Maxie) and a lot of actual decent looking girls for hot cosplays (saw a Misato with a godlike ass)

I thought the art was better than what's being shown on this thread but there was some pretty obvious copy-paste hands and general anime errors in anatomy. The only 'art' I have from last year was the fan. Which has a geisha on one side and BTTF stuff on the other. Talk about contrast.
Since we're talking bad art. The ganky hands and weird stretched out limbs make me uncomfortable. I guess they're going for an 80s retro look but geez...

In short- yeah, to get a decent piece of illustrated work from a skilled illustrator you're going to have to pay for it. So seen as its a con and more of the budget will of gone into other things, I imagine the organisers wouldn't of been too thrilled to be forking out around over £600 or so to get a decent piece of work.

All the problems this year were from the reduction of the con due to being the "minicon" like amechibi last year, plus the event crowding from other things happening like the gadget show meant rooms were scarce

The masquerade, chess and parties seemed lacklustre audience wise but then remembering the normal big hall was split in two like it used to be before the dealers room moved. I know it's the mini con but it just seemed the energy this year was lacking somewhat.

Whole thing was largely mediocre. It's not worth going to if you're not staying in the Hilton or within 5 minutes walk. Rock and cheese parties were the great, but going around the NEC at 3am (or 2am because stop having fun) was a bitch.

Utterly hideous con badges. Pain-in-the-ass wristbands. I'm in cosplay, now I've got this random BRIGHT BLUE tag on me in every photo. It's not fucking Glastonbury, the only reason they're doing it is so the Hilton can identify any con-goer eating outside food and whine.

Kita does not Got Talent. Tab has fucking talent, the rest was a wash.

I'm buddies with the Eli and Maki (Can't recall if I know the Nico or not, her name doesn't really ring a bell to me, and I didn't actually see their performance), and they're both absolute sweethearts. The Eli doesn't come here and the Maki, whom I met through /cgl/, used to lurk years ago but has since moved on with her life.

The Maki has done quite a few dance-skits at other competitions and as far as I know she is a lot more experienced both with dancing and performing. I'm super happy for all three of them and I hope they'll keep it up in the future.

Ame is fun, i find it's more geared towards panels and shoots due to being a campus con and thus spread out, as opposed to Kita being concentrated in a single small area, thus focusing on parties and massive social events.

Ame2012 was my first con and it's what got me pulled into the con scene, been to almost every major con since then and never regretted it since.

First night apparantly flopped, second night was decent enough. I left on sunday before the last night but i've heard the Cheese was hit and miss, especially because it got shut down waaaay too early.
If Ame don't opt for the same shitty wristbands, there's always the Losercon/Hobocon option.

Kita's snapchat posted a picture of the Hilton with 'see you next year' on it. So I guess for now at least they intend to stay there.

Maybe if we don't get booked in with two concerts and like four other events the atmosphere will feel less heavy with judgemental resentment.

A few people i know Loserconned Amechibi and all they missed out on was panels, which could be gotten into anyway by borrowing a badge off someone because nobody checks names, just having a badge. All you need is someone to room with and Loserconning Ame isn't the worst thing in the world. Just hope they find something to do if you want to go to a panel/dealers.

Some previous lolcow who left the UK cosplay scene and is slowly trying to creep back into it, Kitacon was supposed to be her comeback but she failed to get the £££ goal on her gofundme page which was never for her bills in order for her to 'survive', it was to survive Kita's Hilton hotel fees and her cosplay lineup. The £385 donated by neckbeards will probably go towards the next con she attends or a everlasting subscription to Final Fantasy XIV.

Thank you to anyone who came to my panel and I'm sorry it was maybe one of the worst you've been to and that I was late and the slides were suppose to be paused longer for you to all talk more but I think my friends got a bit nervous about finishing it up.

I was mostly Lady Maria from Bloodborne for the weekend and jesus my feet are feeling it. The masquerade was quite organized but it just had a lot of waiting around in the back but there was a lot of staff handing out water bottles and going around checking if everyone was okay. They also allowed us to practice our walks out so that was good.

There were a couple of annoyances but nothing too big. Glad there's a TGIF's around now, love the bubblegum daiquiris.

So i just heard about something called the "Birmingham Comics Festival" being held in Birmingham at the Cricket ground and the MAC at the 23rd this month.

This year was a vast improvement. I heard that there were supposedly between 4000-5000 who attended last year, so ticketing it to reduce the numbers and having three venues was a big plus. I kinda agree about the AA, I honestly think three spaces for selling was way too much as well.

I was in the masquerade, it seemed like very few people entered this year. There was also a bit of confusion about what was meant to be happening, but it seemed to be cleared up quite fast.

Overall, it was probably the best DeeCon i've been to so far in the 5 years i've been attending. I really hope they keep the ticketing and have it over a few different venues again, because it seemed to help alleviate most of the overcrowding.
