Oh man I've always wanted to do a whole mew mew group but I know the only person who would do it with me is my sister. I think I've finally gotten good enough at sewing to be able to tackle one of these outfits I just wish I had more people to do it together with. How do you guys put together cosplay groups? I don't even know that many people who cosplay that would be attending the same con as me

It depends on the makeup and wig. If the makeup is too much or too mature and the wig is shitty, it would cross the line into fetishy. The pic you posted looks fine though.

I love mew mew to bits but I find it so hard to cosplay or like seeing cosplayed when Ichigo's underskirt is as fantastical shoujou constructed as it can get.

I always would have done it with a wire and tulle inner piece and then just constructed a bubble skirt around that. Then just use something interfaced for the pink crazy points.

i've also seen it done just using a bunch of petticoats, which isn't accurate, but it provides a similar silhouette

The skirt looks like this in a lot of the anime art.

Oh god, this is a dream cosplay of mine! A relative of mine made me a Strawberry Bell prop, so I want to use it on a cosplay to say thank you.

However, my motivation for cosplay has really gone, and I'm stuck what to do. I could buy a cosplay, but I hate the look of most of the bought ones, and I'm not good enough at sewing to make one. Would it be a cop out to do a maid version with a bodyline maid dress and use the bell to pose with etc?

I was thinking this maid dress in pink, maybe adding some strawberry patches around the edges? there was a picture of a Bodyline maid dress someone had embroidered strawberries onto, which was always a favourite of mine. I'll try and find it.

I'd definitely do the cat ears and tail, I want it to be recognisably Tokyo Mew Mew, but I'm not really worried about being 100% screen-accurate.

I've been planning a Tokyo black cat girl cosplay for a while, will start working on it once I graduate in a few months. I'd like to do cafe ichigo, school uniform ichigo, as well and now this wedding version...
I tried a few of these when I was younger but they were absolute garbage. Hoping I can do better now that I have money and an attention span.
I have a little stuffed Masha I bought at a con years ago so I'm excited to incorporate him.

If I can get some abs Id like to do kisshu as well since he was my first villain crush.

Honestly all I want to cosplay is Tokyo mew mew. The colors, themes, textures, and silhouette are all I need in my life.

I used to love this series so much, I got my aunt to send me over a bunch of tokyo mew mew merch from Korea and I somehow got my normie friends into the series and we would roleplay TMM during recess.

Oh man, for my best friend's 12th birthday she decided she was having a TMM party and I had to dress as Zakuro, i'd barely seen the show and hadn't made costumes before. I still have the outfit. Tempted to go dig it out of the depths of hell for a laugh

I was so about this series when I was younger. I used to watch it on 4Kids and then I marathonned the Japanese episodes at the public library in 6th grade on youtube and daily motion.
Let be honest though, these designs mostly look awful on real people

Believe it or not, TMM (or Mew Mew Power if you want to get technical) was actually a big ratings success for 4kids. The manga was also a pretty good seller from what i've heard.

However kodansha did not let them do the remaining half of the series due to them being unable to get merch deals secured. Some say this was because of the anime boom entering it's tail-end and twilight years, others because of their negligence and poor sales of One Piece and other 4kids related products that weren't Yu-Gi-Oh. Either way it was still the only magical girl series aside from Sailor Moon to really see some kind of exposure in the States.

I've been trying to get my friends to get a group going for a few years, but they always jump the gun and make other costume plans.

I remember I was 12 when the series aired on 4kids and like every other week one of my best friends would invite me and 4-5 of our friends over to stay at her place on Friday and we would watch it on Saturday mornings.

Man looking back on that we really were kinda sad, but those nights were like something out of a shojo manga.

I remember reading Ala' Mode after my aunt got the volumes for me as a stocking stuffer one Christmas and my mom was really weirded out by Royal Highness and Duke.

She took notice when I didn't want my little sister interrupting me reading, and demanded I show her. Well it was the part when RH first appears and hypnotizes all of Berry's class, or more specifically when he tries to do so on Berry herself and even strips away her top partially to drink her blood. I wasn't allowed to have any other manga for like a year afterwards

When I was younger I remember really wanting the Mew Ichigo cosplay even though I knew it was kind of awful. My family couldn't afford to drop so much on one dress though, so my Nana made me one out of like a velour-type material which in retrospect was much nicer. Sorry for the blog post lmao

I did that outfit back in the day. Her maid dress is red with pink accents so if you do it in pink, no one will recognize you. As long as you throw on a wig and the spikey hat you have an OK chance of being recognized.

If you REALLY wanna be recognized, throw some cat ears or some other recognizable shit...maybe the little robot she had floating around her. idk.

Man this thread makes me so nostalgic. I remember having assigned a mew mew to each of my friends in late elementary and early middle school. We always said we were gonna cosplay them all. I even had a pair of black cat ears that I bought off of eBay that I would wear eeeeeverywhere. Kodansha wasn't the licensor of the anime.
4kids didn't destroy the rest of the anime because it WASN'T well received.

To this day, no official Region 1 TMM DVD release exists.

Ugh losing an important part of a cosplay right before a con is the worst. I'm sorry anon! I can't speak for the other girls since they were in boots but I absolutely hate wearing shoes with zero support and I was stuck in thin layer flats (I was Pudding). I think when I wear her again I'll have some Dr Scholl's or some kind of gel padding to help out. Or I'll get new shoes.

Oh man this brings back so much nostalgia. TMM was the first cosplay I ever did, and we had all the mews, even Berry and Ringo, and a Kish and Blue night. It was so much fun, but looking back, our cosplays were horrible.
