For your defense as i said previously in the last thread, these characters are indeed monsters but, they have been given human characteristics such as emotions or speaking just like us, leading our brain to perceive them like we would perceive fellow humans (in a way). Which explain why you might feel attraction towards them.
So i just don't really see you all as disgusting, just, as long as you aren't super "proud" of it or whatever like some tumblrinas openly drawing themselves frikking Asgore or something. We all have weird fetishes and that's totally fine.

Funny enough, I think a lot of people are intimidated of me when I'm in my MTT. I've gotten a lot of people messaging me online after cons and stuff saying that they wished they had come up to me and talked more but that they were scared? I think intimidated is deffo the more accurate word, but I don't see why they would be the case ...?

This happens to me too. Multiple people have told me that they were too intimidated to talk to me and some people told that same thing to my friends who then told me. I'm in a similar boat, but I wasn't sure if it was a common thing or I'm just being arrogant.
My first cosplays were, yknow, closet stuff with simple wigs, and I'd talk to a lot of people at conventions all the time.
Now I have a better grasp of makeup, neatness, detail, fabric choice, fitting, etc. and the only ones that come up to me are people I'm already friends with.

If you do this again, two things:
Try to work on blending that prosthetic. The edges are VERY jarring and ruin the entire illusion.
Since I'm anti-paint anon from the previous thread, please get a different sweater! You can already see the paint crack in your pictures which is a shame because if you're going to wear this again, they're only going to get worse.

Sewed up the sides and pinned the shoulders. Testing with the white robe. Obnoxious rainbow lining will be echoed in an iridescent paint job on the shoulder armour. Still looking for my ideal paint job though. ATM considering white spray plastidip with a chameleon or pearlized finish. Super open to suggestions tho

Here I tried the chest piece kinda like a Football chest piece; covers all around the chest, and connects at the sides. unfortunately this is the best pic i have that shows most of it, the others are like, selfies, or just gross.

I dont like the chest-jellybean, because I doubt a "real" mettaton would have just a big pink fuck on the front.

The eyebrow is far too thick for my liking. I imagine MTT's would be more of a neat arch.
Work on getting the cheek panels even, maybe get a friend to draw the lines.
Also if that's the wig you're using for MTT, can you part it a little higher? It's too far down.

Please excuse my terrible redlining -- I don't have my tablet on hand atm.

Anyway, here's a baby's first redlining for you. I've also circled problem areas: namely the incorrect placement of the bolts + the lack of vertical 'seam' connection from the cheek panel up to the eye, and ofc, the gross two-tone lip.

lines on the cheek should run parallel to your cheekbone, and be drawn straight, or with very little curve. Your vertical line is mostly fine, b/c it ISN'T a straight line -- the slight curvature really helps sell the look of the panelling occurring on a three-dimensional plane (that is, your face.)

Powder your nose a little better, I can see the pink of your real skin peeking through with the shine.

If you insist on the stupid two-tone lip, then at least get a lip pencil for the pink part.

Drawn-on fake lashes look juvenile and tacky instead of fashionable or glamourous. Please get some false lashes instead to create that look more successfully.

Your eyebrow is too thick all the way around. Take a look at the eyebrows of male models. Shaped, masculine eyebrows do exist; please take note of them.

Also, this is a personal suggestion, but by no means an objective one: Try doing the panelling shading up from the bottom next time. Personally, I've found it to look more successful, but ymmv.

I did have mixed feelings about the two toned lips as well, so we might just make them all black. Unfortunately I'll be working up until the con on the weekend, so I won't get a chance to buy any fake lashes, but I'm sure we can just manage without them.

I finally got to wear my Alphys out! People who have been around in the past threads might have seen me post the mask. Even though it was a lot of fun, I've had some issues. Mostly heat-related and, as a result, being underprepared in dealing with sweatiness. Next time I'll invest in one of those heavy duty anti-perspirants.
Any ideas or tips on how to improve the outfit?

If anyone in here has done a fursuit head, could I get some advice on how to deal with visibility? It was piss poor in this suit. The eyes were buckram, I painted the back black, all the usual tricks but it really didn't help. Had to constantly take out the eyes and place them back for pictures.

Heat issue-
Does the mouth open? If not, try opening it. If it does, maybe open it more and keep it static.
Under the head you should have a balaclava hood on. This helps with heat.
The eyes are vents as well. If they're too small heat will struggle to escape.
If you're nervous, you can make the nostrils into vents too.
If the fan is too small, then there's not much you can do there.

Visibility-
Bigger eyes, that's really about it. Vision is always going to suck in a fursuit, especially depending on the foam base and how big your blindspot is.
The construction of the head looks a little long though, so air flow seems lacking.

How was your visibility in this? I've noticed that if I look through the eyes on my suit, I look through both the white eyepart and black pupil at the same time, and it makes it very hard to see overall. I'm guessing since your eyes are bigger you can choose to just look through the white part?
In what sense does my mask look long? The entire head is face-tight (which would explain away my circulation problems, there's no room), except for the nose.

I think I might have explained this before in an earlier thread, but I'll do it again. (maybe I'll cap it this time in case the argument comes up again int the future...)

-Mettastache/tumblr faun black upper lip looks unattractive.

-Two-tone lips have no basis in fashion or theatre. Believe me, I looked. If someone can prove me wrong and source the origin of the trend, I'd love to know, b/c all my research on the trend turned up nothing. I looked at runway trends of current and past, drag looks, historical looks, alternative fashion looks, avant garde runways and got NOTHING.

This leads me to one remaining conclusion: That the origin of the two-tone lip did not originate in fashion at all, but instead in fanart and other illustrative works. The two-tone lip makeup is just transposing the look of the 2D art onto a 3D form. The issue with this, however, is that a real-life, 3D face will cast different lights and shadows than a 2D illustration. The two-tone lip has no consideration for the 3D space it exists in, and so when light and shadow comes into play, the results look unappealing. Of course, even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and the two-tone lip can look good under very specific lighting conditions, but unless you're in a controlled setting (such as an indoor photoshoot with lighting) you shouldn't rely on the lighting working in your favour, cus it sure as shit won't always be doing so.

Whether you base in silver, grey, or white, Mettaton's makeup is a high-contrast look, so you've got to be very careful about how and where you place your colours (and how intense to make them.) You can very quickly get into mime or clown territory, which is something that I would think you'd want to avoid if you're goal is to look like an attractive TV star (or just attractive at all...)

I totally agree. Sure, MTT is supposed to look a bit feminine but people seem to go way too far with it almost always. In the game, he still does look very much like a guy despite his feminine qualities, while in fanart and cosplays he is almost always portrayed as looking outright female. A number of people I know actually thought he was a girl before playing the game because of how he is depicted in fanon and were very surprised to see how he actually was in canon.

Well foam is the most common base for mascots/fursuits. It's easier to manipulate and create expressions with than some materials. That's why makers commonly choose it. Unless you know how to do resin or want to risk paper mache like I've seen done a few times, foam is really the safest, easiest and best to work with.

My method isn't really good for someone who HAS to wear glasses to get around, though. It's a bit too tight around my head for that. I'm not familiar with paintball masks, but can you remove the safety glasses part on them? You can use all the help for vision and air circulation you can get.

I'd snoop around the fursuit LiveJournal to see if the question of glasses under the mask has come up. It's a fairly good resource place, but a lot of the info is old and might be outdated.

To add on to this from an illustrative point of view: Lips get two-toned in art mostly to mimic how the upper lip is in shadow in real life. People drawing it black are obviously doing a huge exaggeration, I suppose people are taking people's art styles a little too literally? It's sort of like drawing comic book lines on your face... You're trying to make the abstract work in reality, it's just never going to look right to some folks. And even then, it's still only ever going to look ok from certain angles and lighting conditions.

I remember the two-toned lips being used in the Cats musical (as well as being extremely common in face painting), but it makes a hell of a lot more sense because they are deliberately trying to make their lips show the :3 shape cats actually have (pic related). Deer don't have this shape at all so I don't know where that idea came from. Neither do humanoid robots, that one's completely beyond me.

I looked into that, actually. The biggest issue with doing that is being able to find something matte; something with a satin finish (like most opera gloves) look more like gloves than actual skin, and also tend to have more obvious seams around the thumb/fingers and aren't as tight to the skin as a good armsock. Part of the reason I want a thigh-high (or shit, even knee-high) stocking as a base is so that I can get the convenience of a glove that can come off so that I can do things like eat without having to worry about dirtying my white gloves, or do things like grab or touch things without having to worry about monster claws getting in the way.

If someone can recommend me a good nylon glove that can provide the same matteness/skintightness w/o obvious seams, then I'd gladly check it out.

I've done both welovecolors shoulder gloves and target tights (the premium ones) armsocks and the armsocks looked so much more natural and were easier to wear than the gloves. Plus they looked better in pictures.
When I did the gloves I had a couple pics taken of me with flash and they made the glove material sheen so hard it looked like I picked them up at party city or something. The armsocks were far lighter too and I didn't overheat like I did with the gloves.
I'd recommend the target tights for making armsocks (specifically the premium ones that are like $2 extra) but if you're going with white I can't promise whether or not they'll be super opaque. White is weird when it comes to opacity.

i think you should restart. one of the main problems with your piece is that you've stretched out the head way too far vertically, which doesn't help flatter the already strangely oval shape it has. make sure you look at a reference while you work, too. i'm not sure which brother you're doing (assuming sans, so forgive me if my advice is incorrect) but try to make sure you get some defining features in there. it'll help take it from 'basic skeleton' to 'easily recognizable undertale skeleton'

What you do is trace your hand on cardboard and cut it out, then stick that inside the tights and stitch around that with the machine on the smallest stitch setting. I stitched a little bit up the forearm because my wrists are tiny so there's not a lot of space there, but otherwise the tights at their normal size should be enough room. You keep them from ripping by putting fray check or something on the seams and just being careful when you pull them on.

Sans' eye holes are wider horizontally than they are vertically. That's part of what's throwing off these masks so much. They are kind of egg shaped, not these gumdrop shapes. His nose hole is bigger and higher up than you have it here. His mouth is more )) shaped than D shaped.

Did you try drawing yourself a picture before going right to 3D or were you working straight from references? I find drawing it myself helps me get a better feel for proportions and placement of costume feature, especially working from a tiny sprite.

I'm finishing a gijinka-cosplay of Toriel atm and I'm glad to hear that some people don't think of it as "going the easy way" I wanted to do a gijinka from the start but now that cosplayers have used the goat prosthetics I started feeling kinda stupid for going the gijinka route. Quick question for a friend, she was thinking of dying a white sweater for her Chara cosplay since she can't knit for shit. (Nor can I else I would for her lol) so good idea/bad idea? Any possible alternatives (besides painting if we can help it)

Depends on the fiber. It is doable if it's a polyester fiber and you use iDye Poly, but if it's a wool knit even polyester dyes can be faded.

Also it will be hard to get the two colours done cleanly unless she's just going to dye it all green and then add the yellow stripe in something else

You won't be able to stop the dyes from running into each other so rather than having a clean line it'll be blurred.
Options for sweater making from best to worst:
knitting (100% control over everything)
altering existing sweater by cutting it apart and adding stripes (will have fairly obvious seams but the cleanest option besides knitting)
taping off the stripes and painting them on (use a matte paint and stipple, don't brush)
sewing fabric stripes on top of an existing sweater (edges look crappy)
dying (dye will run)
freehand painting stripes (just fucked)
duct tape (I swear I saw this shit once)

I agree that taking away animalistic aspects would be cuter, but I think it would also forego the whole point of those characters, namely that they're monsters. I would think looking odd or uncanny is part of the point.

I'm in the middle of gathering supplies to make a Dapperblook for a summer con. I want to try to cut the sheet low so that my feet are not very visible, but not so low that I'll trip over myself. A friend suggested wearing Heelys to give the appearance of 'floating' as I walk around. I'm willing to try it since the sheet will be draped over an umbrella hat and I'll have space to move.

Does anyone have any experience with these shoes (comfort, ease of use, etc) and/or where to buy them for less than $60?

I have adult Heelys. Comfy but heavy when not rolling cause duh. Got them on Zappos for a normal price ages ago.

But speaking as someone who has done napsta with a huge sheet cut low and tried to heely.... Anon... Dont do it. It ended badly. Also some cons wont allow it anyway or dont have enough good floors or space.

On the wig: If you're pinning the bangs to the side, it'll work fine. If you pinning them back (over your head), you'd need a specialty wig.

Everything's really clean looking on this MTT, but the stupid two tone lip again, jfc. Also why the black lip liner on the bottom? There's soft shading on the eyelid and cheek panels, so why not continue that trend on the lip, instead of something so incredibly flat-looking.
