What's the point of a maid cafe if none of the waitresses are cute? It's no wonder they never took off outside Japan, the girls who sign up are always unwashed weebs in shitty party city maid uniforms. Maid cafe thread?

First maid cafe in NY. Look at how shit those uniforms are.
>>
>>8936093

maid cafes outside Jap should be way stricter on uniform rules desu

like make wigs and proper maid makeup mandatory, otherwise it looks shoddy as hell
>>
>>8936093
I think all maids look shit, japanese or not. The japanese ones don't care much about quality and western maids throw random edgy stuff in to make them unique. Maids only look cute in anime.

>>
>>8936098
Nah, there are very cute japanese maids.

>>8936104
I guess that's because they confused working at a maid café with having fun in cute costumes and be admired for it?
>>
>>8936103

Its always summer on 4chan.
>>
>>8936098
Have you never been to an @home cafe?
>>
I know people say maid cafes will never work outside of cons in America, but what about something along the lines of a Cafe Swallowtail-esque type deal? Where the focus is more an elegant environment and making the customer feel like royalty.
>>
There's a few people trying to make it happen in Brazil but all of the maids are ugly as shit.
Also they have no idea what they are doing and the food looks disgusting, it's kept the whole day out in the open.
And the drinks take a shit ton of time to get to the table... they want to actually open a business.. Ha ha ha
>>
>>8936093
The two in the middle are cute. Left side is good looking but the right side has the jowls of marlon brando.
>>
what i want to know is why don't they buy matching uniforms? they look fucking stupid in random ones.

that said, they suck here because the people who open them are fug weebs who focus on being kawaii animu shits with their friends and don't understand how to food/service.

i actually have a lot of restaurant experience(i'm a professional pastry chef) and I worked the front of house(waitressing) for many years before that. but sadly i don't have the funds or resources to open one, and my local con can't host one because of the hotel rules. shit just sucks all around.

I think Western girls who are old enough to work in these places are often also too old to look kawaii. Even if they take care of themselves and are attractive it looks very indecent. More sex toy staff than cute cafe.

I'd totally go to some Victorian/Edwardian maid cafe though.
>>
>>8936239
this so much.

totally done with this kawaii maid weeaboo shit
>>
>>8936230
i work in a convention maid cafe each year and we have consistent uniforms among the staff.

I think a big problem (and one we wanna change this year) is girls going crazy with accessories, hair etc., practically cosplaying while working as a maid

like it looks like crap if you've got weirdly mismatched maids everywhere, natural brown-black wigs should be mandatory imo and makeup/accessories should be consistent among maids
>>
>>8936230

By the things that get mentioned here, I feel like the owners of such cafés rarely have a solid concept how to make the business work except "drinks & food with kawaii~ meidos". Often they aren't even looking good at all. A decent venue, good location, decent and clever promotion, solid appearance (working clothes are called uniforms for a good reason..) and a solid menu offer. And ofc there's the thing with actual good looking waitresses. Prepare your butt for complains, because why can't I be a kawaii meido I'm sososo kawaii~~.

And I guess even if you manage these problems and open up a high quality establishment, you will have a hard time to get customers in. I'd go as far and say this is the hindrance where almost all projected cafés will fail. Saving yourself a piece of the cake on the market will be a hard test. And if you still feel like you want to pull it through, the horrendous amount of costs you have to pay until now will finally put you back to the ground.

Also don't underestimate the fetish, otaku, creepy, anti-women rights, discrimination shitstorm once you get picked up by the media.

All in all a risky high effort low profit business idea and a cringey one for every business expert.
>>
>>8936178
In general I don't think any role-play (for the lack of a better term) does well at leaat in the states outside of male fantasy establishments like Hooters. Maybe space in the UK where people are warming back up to the idea of having help thanks to shows like Downtown Abbey. The whole Kawaii aesthetic doesn't exist in the west past a certain age. The idea of going to a cafe where girls will dance and sing and call you master in a high pitched voice without doing anything remotely sexual besides questionable skirt length is laughable.
>>
>>8936239
lmao this reminds me, I went to this fancy looking dim sum place last week and all the waitresses were wearing those kind of victorian style maid outfits.
The place was also decorated like a rococo era ballroom.
>>
>>8936310
victorian era dim dums sounds like my kinda place
>>
>>8936304

Yes, I realize they would really have to tone down the role-play aspect to make it work here in the States.

That said, I agree that, by and large, the West has a really, really hard time handling the concept of cute past tweenhood. It's why I think the moe/kawaii cafes would never ever work outside the niche market. I'm just wondering if there's a large enough market for that old fashioned European Aristocrat vibe.
>>
>>8936093
>>8936096
I guess i'm a little weird for thinking this, but to an extent trying to look 'asian cute/kawaii' does not work for a number of girls, and it looks kind of '
off compared to what they are going for...

But there are western cute looks that are unfortunately overshadowed by the 'sexy' look and even fetishism over the innocent look.
>>
>>8936389
aah, and i mean, not clothes and stuff, but the way makeup is applied and hair is done.
>>
I think it would work better if it was more like "cute waitresses wear cute uniforms" sort of thing. Without the dancing or the goushinjinsama shit.
Maybe they'll draw something on the omuriceu for you if you order it.

Maid cafe from japan for comparison. The uniforms are cute as fuck, I would love to work at one of those things if they looked that cute in the US.
>>
>>8936214
I didn't know horse faces were cute.
>>
This cafe is pretty popular in my state, I think they do a good job and are pretty consistent in terms of uniform
>>
>>8936517
Some of those peko peko girls are not cute. Never gone, but they must be good to be at every fl con.
>>
>>8936517
Second girl from the left is way too ugly to be working as a maid. At least, the kawaii kind. She could pass for a hotel maid.
>>
>>8936093
If you think all girls working in maid cafés in Japan are cute you have a mad case of yellow fever. Most of them are average.
>>
>>8936097
I agree. The cotton candy wigs with racoon esque makeup is not cute. Watching some of @homw's videos, the girls all have hair colors that are somewhat natural (even the blonde girls don't have yellow hair ) and in nice simple hairstyles. Their makeup is also light and cute. Some girls just are unfortunate looking, but some girls can be fixed with a bit of powder.

I also disagree, there are plenty of cute Western girls. It all depends if they are styled correctly and not super tryhard. In contrast there are ugly Japanese maids.
>>
>>8936304
>Maybe space in the UK where people are warming back up to the idea of having help thanks to shows like Downtown Abbey

yeeeeeeeeah, no. Maybe you could market that to britaboo tourists--maybe--but British people would cringe hard and not patronize it anymore than Americans would in the US. Otherwise yes, it is the very, very different concepts of straight male pandering between Japanese and western cultures. The US does essentially have maid cafes. Hooters, Tilted Kilt, etc. That's pandering to generic cultural tastes of American straight men the same way maid cafes pander to the generic cultural tastes of dweeby Japanese straight men. Average, non-otaku Japanese straight men are going elsewhere for that kind of attention and pandering.
>>

The problem is a maid cafe is a magical fantasy here to the people working it, by necessarily to the customers. In Japan it is the other way around, the girls have a job they like and the customers get the fantasy.

I think a unique hair color and style per maid would look ok as long as they were natural colors and not really -out there- styles. But it's a uniform, so no extra jewelery besides maybe a pretty short pendant, preferably matching too and cleanliness, neatness, food safety when setving, nice nails and pretty beauty makeup are a must in addition to any singing, dancing, 'yes master' games, etc.

I think the person who said that its a fantasy for the customer and not the maids hit the nail on the head. People who set up cafes in america usually hire their friends or try not to be mean by turning someone away because they're not cute. It's amateur. If they at least had the hiring standards of Hooters, and they weren't all moe moe kyun desu, they could get away with it. MAYBE.

On a side note, @home cafe is expensive as fuck and I feel like the parfait they served me gave me cancer, it was so sugary. And also it had corn flakes at the bottom. Blech. But I went on my birthday and got a free picture of myself with all of the maids there? So that's cool I guess.

If you imported the japanese maid cafe system to america, no one would go. Shitty food, a fee just to walk in, and weird fetishy stuff. It definitely has to be altered.
>>
>>8937418
Really? Please love yourself, anon.
>>
>>8937501
This.
Theme cafes can work (like pirate theme!) as long as it's either for kids, or there is alcohol involved. I've done pirate-themed boat ride type things that were lots of fun. During the day, they catered to kids with a simple story and at night it was tailored for drunk people with suggestive jokes and they gave out shots. A bar/restaurant could easily copy that idea and do a pirate theme, or a magic theme, or

But maid theme is just weird in the US unless it's strip club type fetish maids in vegas. We just don't have a cultural concept of maid theme like Japan does. Maid anime isn't on TV here. The closest thing is stuff like downton abbey, but I would argue that most viewers see themselves more like the help in those shows than the aristocrats who are often played up as being ridiculously out of touch.

We have the pornographic french maid trope, and we have the girl next door nanny who's boss is a widower or divorcing, who falls in love with her, or makes her a movie star or something trope. But people who watch that stuff see themselves in the nanny, not the rich guy.

Here's a more recent picture of them. They've got more cute maids and I think their uniforms are now regulated. When they were starting out, all the maids had to make their own uniforms, which is probably still the case, but I think they use the same basic pattern now at least.
>>
>>8938477

worst thing is that they have sleeve tiebacks for kimono style sleeves when working with food/cleaning. it's a legit traditional thing. ugh.
>>
>>8938484
I think they also have normal uniforms too, but the hotel that hosted this con wouldn't let them serve food. They're just recycling these uniforms that I believe were made for Asian culture fest performances since the theme for the con was hana matsuri.
I think some the girls are missing from the photo though, since I know some of them. I can't vouch for how they are as an actual maid café though, since I stopped going to their events a long time ago.
>>
There's 2 maid cafés in Scotland and they're on very different ends of the spectrum.
Marshmallow Dreams runs at convention events and have the occasional cafe in a suitable city centre location, all the girls are well polished, cute and just of a very good calibre. Pic related.

Maid In Scotland on the other hand is disorganised, cringey and all the girls bar maybe two are ungroomed/badly dyed hair/greasy, a creepy neckbeard 'butler' and one obese girl who sticks out like a sore thumb. The events are more frequent but it's mostly just friends of the maids who go. I'll post pic below.

I'm noticing that the lace is cheap and they didn't bother to iron those costumes.

I think a western maid cafe would do better if they ditched the cute and went more classy. A standard uniform and a dress code which includes hair and makeup would work.

It would also have to be more of a classy-tea room, although that makes it a different experience than a weeby maid cafe.

In fact I think a classy tea-room with maids would actually do better business in Japan than it would here.

In my city in the UK there's a traditional tea/coffee shop in a victorian building where the waitresses wear maid outfits and it really enhances the whole atmosphere of the place. Not the frilly kawaii kind, like long victorian skirts and aprons with headdresses. I think that kind of thing stepped up a notch could fly, in the Downton Abbey sense, but anything cutesy or "master"-ish would just attract mumsnet outrage and Daily Mail articles accusing them of being softcore bdsm fetish cafes.

Glad trashy maid caffés aren't just in my country. It's always terrible here half of the maids are just plain unattractive, uniforms aren't matching, accessory aren't matching, random collars or other edgy shit, food/drinks are pretty subpar and general trashiness.

Like I don't expect them to have expensive shit and high quality costumes but just at least try to be that neat-clean maids that match. I wouldn't even mind paying premium prices.

Head Maid of almost ten years coming out of lurking here.

I wrote a panel and explored the social science behind why maid cafes can exist in Japan and are actually incredibly successful, vs why they don't and won't ever work in the United States, for example. The simple explanation is that the cultural mindset or zeitgeist is just nonexistent in American culture.

Maid cafes do very well in Japan because they're centered on the idea of creating a safe "fantasy" or "non-real" space. Outcasts who usually feel out-of-place in all or most aspects of modern Japanese society find the maid cafe to be a "safe space" fabricated just for them. They're free to exist and be themselves in this space. I think the audience is much larger and more concentrated in Japan, especially within the city limits of Tokyo or more specifically Akihabara.

The market DOES exist in America; it's why anime conventions and the like can exist in the first place. Those are fabricated "safe" spaces as well. But the market for maid cafes isn't big enough to sustain them all year round, for instance. The New York cafe was a good experiment. It eventually failed. And we can look to that silly Detroit cafe as a clear example.

You've got to have basic business sense if you want to open a maid cafe, you've got to be a people person, you've got to be able to be confident, you've got to learn to trust and rely on other people, you've got to be willing to work for a team, you've got to be willing to put in the hours, you've got to learn basic acting, and you've got to be a teacher. It's actually all very fascinating.

That said, you've also got to be professional.

Also, a lot of cafes don't work as actual cafes because the hotel or convention spaces just can't or won't accommodate a cafe which serves food unless the licensing is there (it's expensive) or unless the hotel/center is making money from it.

First and foremost, a real cafe needs to be a business. Unfortunately the cafe in NY had that foundation but it lacked a lot of important things within the people and management. I worked there a few months before they closed and it sucked to see so much potential be lost

Just an idea but I feel like if you played the line between a few things it would have a much wider appeal. For instance, you could do a maid cafe that appealed to the weeby culture, I mean like the fact its a maid cafe, have some cutesy food, a few girls in thigh highs ect; but then also make appeals to the wider populace, for instance taking advantage of game of throne's popularity, get the girls to call the costumers, my lord, lady, ser ect which would help appeal not only to medieval fantasy type stuff, but also weebs into kuroshitsuji and the likes as well as teaboos. Have the girls all in actually matching uniforms with only one or so alterable part, for instance skirt length, and maybe let them have a small embroidered sigil on the apron or vest to further cater to the got fans. Possibly have different coloured skirts allowed but that might look messy. Actual quality uniforms would have to be made to avoid looking like Halloween serving wench costumes. Attractive girls would obviously help and makeup and well styled or looked after hair in my opinion would also do the cafe a lot of favours. I also think it would be up to the girls to figure out to pander more to the moe appeal or otherwise but you could always have some sort of question at the start to help the maids figure it out?

What would people think if a cafe had all the maids wearing matching uniforms, but each had a different colour? For example, some of the bodyline outfits have almost 10 colours.

Or would that be way too busy and mismatched?
>>
>>8942318
too busy in my opinion. if you want to assign each girl a color, make each one only have certain colored accessories
>>
>>8936093
>the girls who sign up are always unwashed in shitty party city maid uniforms
No, the ones who sign up think they cute when they're pudgy and overweight. Actually, it's not the ones who sign up - it's the ones who get picked.
The people who select the girls for these things need glasses and not hire when stoned.
>>
>>8939507
Other than the one with their braids and glasses the others are very fake with the smile and service routine. Food wasn't that good and it was organized poorly imo. I guess Im just use to how much more organized Peko is in the CF area

>>
>>8943054
Cafe Kira Hoshi? No man I saw them at Mizu and at Chibi Pa so I can say that Peko is definitely better which isn't saying much. the girls are more coordinated during the dances and attentive during playing games with the guests. Hoshi isn't bad but they need some improving still
>>
>>8943065
Mizu is a different cafe?
And yeah I think kira is more inclusive though
>>
>>8940514
I heard that NY cafe was more like just a deli with people dressed as maids, and general anime crap up on the wall. Not really the maid experience.

Did anyone have any experience with the maid cafe opened in Toronto for a few years around 2007?

I wonder if something like this place would work better: http://www.acasius.jp/cast/

It's basically a maid cafe, except it pretends to be a boarding school, with the wait staff playing the students. But the uniforms are very maid-like, so it's not just some seifuku-fest. It also serves alcohol.

Maybe something like that might work--a more thought-out story, that's not quite "maids," with more of a coherent theme; like a scaled-down Medieval Times.
>>
>>8943078
It's called Cafe Mizu Mizu but it was a good chunk of Hoshi there. Its why I tried a second time at Chibi Pa so I didn't come to conclusions on one smaller con. They need improvement but at least their not the terrible cafe that was at Omni, May Mays Maid Cafe
>>
>>8943406
Yep it sort of was like that. It was too short staffed to be able to make the food, drinks and do the service thing at the same time.
>>
anyone else notice that maid cafe picks girls pretty much 1 of 3 ways?

>1. the maids know someone

you can tell if a maid cafe is like this because usually the girls are well… not that cute or well put together.

>2. the maids are hired based on someone’s personal preference for girls.

you can tell if a maid cafe is like this because all the girls will have similar features, like brown hair with blue eyes, or all Asian girls.

>3. the maids are hired based on their actual qualifications

you can tell if its like this because the maids are usually cute, energetic, and there is actual diversity

@home cafe is so polished, and there is a level of care and detail they put forward so I can see why they're the best. Their new uniforms are so freaking pretty and the staff wear their own accessories but still look uniform. I've been to Maidreaming as well since they are the second most popular, but the staff there are more lax, they're less formal, they're not as dedicated with their performing and they are less strict about looks as well, I've seen maids with deep voices and unfortunate looks at Maidreaming and while it's more realistic I think if you're going for full fake fantasy @home is the maid cafe to go to. I think the problem with overseas cafes is that they're too lax, they clearly don't tailor the maid uniforms to look good on the maids, they don't have restrictions, so like if a girl is ugly or unkempt she will be picked simply because she volunteered. I personally feel all maids should be of a similar size and height, so anyone over a certain weight or certain height should not be hired. Obese maids should not be hired either and if a maid is chubby or overweight she will need to have her costume tailored to her so that she doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. A lot of these cafes just don't give a fuck, they have no sense of polish or professionalism so they're let any busted looking weeb put on a dress and play maid for a day.

Seriously, they got to at least put a weight limit on some of these. The last con cafe I went to, our maid was at least 250lbs. I'm not even saying this to be rude, but it's really immersion breaking and I feel like it deters a lot of girls from wanting to try it out.

Like they could even divide it up into like having a regular cafe and BBW/Marshmellow cafe.
>>
>>8943720
Hmm...I actually think a marshmellow girls maid cafe would be kinda cute. Adorable pudgy maids with the rest of a nice put together cafe? Not too bad.

I don't mean hambeasts though...people carry weight different so I couldn't see a weight cut off working but if it was on a case by case basis it could work (as much as a realistic good themed cafe would work).
>>
>>8943720

I think chubby maids would be kinda cute, and to have one or two at a normal cafe wouldn't be too weird
But it's very important that they first of all are cute. Like more importantly than normal.
And secondly, that they're not too big.
Like a bit of chub can be cute, but nobody is gonna like being served by a hamplanet.
Lastly I think it's important that it's a cafe where everyone has the same outfit, otherwise it'll look even weirder that one of them is chubby

>>
Protip to people browsing who are actually part of a maid cafe. If you have facebook pages for the different maids as well as a facebook for the cafe, make sure to at least post with good grammar. It looks so unprofessional otherwise, really bugs me because when I was part of a maid cafe some of the girls were making the collective look bad with this. Maid cafes aren't the most reputable of businesses anyway, lets not make each other look worse lol.
>>
>>8946476
Actually what I meant by "higher level" was hambeast.

You know. Because they are bigger, but the two of you are still within the same class?

What I meant was that it doesn't matter if you "chubby" or a land-whale in a dress, because guys aren't going to be getting an erection around you either way.

And before some whiteknight gets on here to say some stupid shit like

>speak for yourself madam, I myself find far more attracted to ladies with more cushin for the pushin if you pardon my french, milady

look in yourself in the mirror, and honestly, really truly objectively ask yourself, if you could get a normal weight girl, even if you wanted to.

People aren't that biologically diverse, and people's standards for attraction are relatively static.

>pic unrelated, but this is what healthy weight looks like
>>
>>8946934
I...what? You can't even see her body lmao.

Everyone has a different healthy BMI for their body. Some people are genuinely just built bigger than others, you can't say 'this is a healthy weight cause I said so'.
Genetics, race, living conditions, it all plays a part.

And if someone says they're attracted to chubbier girls/guys you can't say 'no you arent'. That's like saying 'you can't like chocolate ice cream because I prefer vanilla!'. Doesn't make any sense.

Obesity isn't attractive, no. But being a naturally chubbier/stockier build (if it's healthy for your body) can be.

Yeah, this is what I think. It's not about some universal objective standard; it's about "what looks right for you." Out-of-shape people, people who dress poorly, people with bad hygiene, people with poor posture, and people with crap personalities are not attractive, regardless of size. Work with what you have. Be fit, dress well, take care of yourself, and smile, and you're likely to be seen as attractive by most; and even really good looking by those who like your type.

There's no such thing. No one is "naturally" chubby. The fat comes from somewhere, it doesn't materialize out of thin air. If you eat in excess of what your body uses, you gain fat.

I guarantee, 100%, full money back, that anyone who is "chubby" has a higher than normal bf%

I don't see the point in comparing con Cafes and Con Maids to established brick and motor Cafes and Maids in Japan. >>
>>8948234
Exactly. Most Maids work for the fun of it, plus the bonus of free entry to the con and a MAYBE a shared hotel and MAYBE food. And tips from customers. Some maids are just hired a month or even a week before due to necessity. I've worked in a few Cafes and its a pain in the ass to get people to do their fucking job. So sorry if our hair and outfit is a bit fucked up, or we're not as peppy. We were probably up until 12a.m. when they kick us out of the hotel decorating the damn panel room. Or worrying if we have enough food to last us the weekend.

Okay, but you chose that. Is it that difficult to fix your hair and makeup and act smiley a few times out of the year? I've worked maid cafes too, dealt with hotels, bitchy head maids, the con itself, but at the end of the day, I signed up for it. So I am going to at least present myself as best I can. Honestly, my customers probably do not care how long I stayed up or any other behind the scene spiel, at the end of the day, they paid for a service. I don't know how many of these maids have actual jobs and careers, but decent work ethic and customer service should transfer to even that as well.
>>
I once tried to work at a cosplay maid cafe. Contacted them and asked and they said that not only would you not get paid for anything and all tips would go back to the 'company because they paid for the ingredients and everything', but you would have to buy your own hotel room and ticket to the con. I just laughed them in the face and left.
Why would I work without getting paid if I have to pay for the ticket myself, then I could just go as a normal visitor!

Unfortunately with con cafes, it's generally filled by volunteers. Our con maid cafe has fairly strict application and interview processes, and we haven't been afraid to remove people causing trouble in the past. But even then, as its unpaid work, you can try your hardest but you can't force maids/butlers to look impeccable. You can regulate uniform, but if someone refuses to wear a wig or do their makeup it's either let them be or let them go.

And as its voluntary, in regards to forcing people to shave their arms etc.- you can ask, but in some cases it's quite awkward and personal if they're not real employees and only people you work with for a few days a year. And constantly kicking people out is bad for business as you lose serving numbers, members for dances/performances and have to rework whole aspects of the cafe.
>>
>>8948431
>>8948480
OK but isn't the look of the maid about 95% of what this is about? In fact, isn't a big part of why people would even want to volunteer to do this? It's like, not taking it seriously is just like a sloppy cosplay. Why do it if you're not going to do it right? I'd think people would *want* to have a nice, uniform look that's completely on point. Who wants to look like a slob?
>>

I had a look at their Facebook page - it seems they have different uniforms for different ranked maids. I see what they're doing since @home and maidreamin do the same thing, but they have hundreds of maids while Maids of England barely have 10, so it just looks messy.

Also they have loads of shitty mic issues in their performances. Guess you can't really blame them for that though, since it's the con's fault. Singing is meh, though there's one chick with a really nice voice.

How do you feel about black girls wearing a maid uniform? Is it "politically correct"?
>>
>>8949533
are you retarded
Why would black girls wearing maid outfit be politically correct. Since you like baiting, wouldn't that be "politically incorrect", do you just not know what the word means and just throw it around for no reason?

Every maid, no matter what size or race has the potential to be either good or bad, some people just need to work harder than others.

>>8949482
this is the same shit @home does but @home looks polished and uniform and these girls look like they couldn't decide on what ebay store to buy their outfit from. Middle costume is the best, but maids should not be allowed to wear colored wigs unless everyone is going to wear a fucking colored wig, other wise stick to natural colors.
Girl on the right could be better if her outfit actually fit, her shoes weren't ugly and she wore her petticoat correctly.
The other one looks like a hotel cleaner, pull the fucking petticoat up and tell her to stop wearing the fucking combat boots.

Maid cafes in Japan seem to stick to black and white, there is no variation in the uniforms, and they use thicker cottons and scallop accents.

U.S. cafes tend to use a mix of black, white, and pastel, they have a knack of using cheap shiny fabrics and oversized itchy lace, and yes, they tend to focus on adding unique accents to costumes like striped tights or cat eats and tiny hair buns.

I've noticed the U.S. outfits are lacking.

I went to a maid cafe alone one time at an anime convention just for the hell of it since I had some time to kill. Important thing to note is that this was during a very sad period in my life.

Paid like 10 bucks for a can of coke and a few pieces of lukewarm chicken on a bed of lettuce. The maid I was with was really nice and we had a common interest in Love Live but I felt like I was boring her to death. Not her fault, I was in full on depression mode at the time so I wasn't a very good conversation partner.

Don't know if I'll ever do it again. Though to be fair the other meals looked way nicer than what I got.

Doing an alternative theme from time to time can be nice too, provided that the theme is cohesive enough (& you already handle the default maid theme fine as a whole group)

Pic related, I think school themes are quite adorable.

Venues often place restrictions on food service. Either you purchase through them, or pay some extra fees and such that it becomes too troublesome, or what's allowed is nearly limited to prepackaged items. May be be for safety concerns, or to monopolize sales, or the latter under the guise of the former.
>>
>>8955844
Ugh. Unless you have naturally cute hair, a wig is really beneficial.
And don't join a maid cafe if you look like you're 40 it's just embarrasaing
>>
>>8952911
I'm pretty sure anyone working with a convention has an 18+ rule so that the con heads don't feel like pedophiles and most likely for some other legal reasons. Maid cafes that have 16+ as a requirement is only because it's probably being run by a 16 year old or it's separated from the convention and/or they wanted their underage friend in their cafe.
>>
>>8949593
lol if you actually knew anything about the cafe you'd realise each maid has a personality, hence the combat boots, she's the tough character or whatever. And @home show their pettis all the time, I wouldn't wear it that way but its not "wearing the petti wrong"

Florida Anime Experience just posted this image of their maid cafe this year.

It really isn't pretty, the angle of the shot makes them all look really manly, bottom right especially.

The con is literally in 11 days, it looks like Croom just shoved some girls together in a poorly angled photo and posted it as advertisement. The uniforms are also all over the place, jesus.

@home cafe shows their pettis because they wear them correctly and the skirt is short enough for them to show underneath, petticoats are supposed to go on the waist not droop underneath and cause the skirt shape to flatten. ALSO @home's petticoats have hearts and designs sewn into them, so they're clearly supposed to be seen, so don't use that shit excuse

Not true, top 2 most famous maid cafes in Japan do not use black and white uniforms, @home is brown and white and maids are allowed to accessorize however they like and Maidreamin usually has Navy blue and white uniforms with pink accents.

If you're familiar with the restaurant industry or hell, if you've watched a few episodes of Kitchen Nightmares or similar shows, you should know that a lot of new restaurants end up going under (something like 60% will fail in their first year, 80% will fail in less than five years). I can only imagine how bad it is for a niche category like maid cafes.

I kinda want to see Gordan Ramsay show up at a failing maid cafe and try to turn it around now.

There are reviews on their fb. I've heard of decent things about them, but never gone when I've gone to AMW.

I have a friend in that group, so maybe if my finances go well between now and then (and if we get a lolita guest again), I might go and finally see for myself.

Said friend shared a story about how she got decent tips for putting up with gross neckbeards, but how it got stolen by the maid managers before the weekend ended. I wonder how often this sort of thing happens in maid cafes.
>>
>>8960085
>And for some reason cafes are afraid to shun away ugly or unfit girls as opposed to breastaurants that acknowledge they focus on looks.

I think it's because places like hooter's are way more popular, which means they have more applicants who fit the look they want. Maid cafes, especially con volunteer ones, aren't going to get that many applications and the type of people who even know what a maid cafe is aren't typically the most fit.

Well, I'm going to tell my experience as a maid in a local con. (at first, sorry because english is not my mother tongue)

I've been 2 years in a Maid Cafe, I got into that through a friend, I was so happy. But the first year it wasn't a mess at all, only the most of the maids were kids/fatty/ugly as hell.
I don't remember being so stressed as those days. Most of them didn't know how to cook, how to be cute and bosses didn't know what to buy, so at the end, I've made all of the hard work. I couldn't be so cute I would like to be, cooking is so frustrating with wig, lens and a heavy outfit, but customers went out happy because there was delicious food (at least).

The second year it was a huge mess, bosses without a fucking idea how to run a Maid Cafe, hiring fool cute girls, less money to buy things, fatty with ugly face maid, there were more cute maids but they didn't know how to cook neither! And the most of time with a face of being in a funeral.

Making a Maid Cafe is hard, I would like to make it with cute girls, but it's hard to find cute + cooking knowledge + polish girls.
