Kirilee is very talented, but Kerrie won because she had more elements including armour and props. Also her costume was LARP-worthy, meaning she had a lot more movement. Kirilee didn't walk away with nothing, she got a medal too.

I just felt really awkward when Amy walked onto the stage and the auditorium was nearly dead silent. Her shitty attitude must have really spread in the last couple of years for so many people to give so few ducks about her. Everyone got an applause when they came on stage, but hers was significantly quieter.

Aside from Amy's costume being horrendously ill-fitting, her close-up of it on the screen made it look wrinkled as hell. Her fabric choice was all wrong, and her wig was hardly styled at all and messy as hell.

Cry more, Amy. Your skills aren't good enough to be entering a competition like that. At least learn how to fit a bodice first.

Don't know whether I'd be able to get a straight answer considering this is literally the first event ever and no one really knows what to expect, but do you guys think it would be worth going all the way up to Melbourne from NSW for Madman Anime Fest? Have any of you guys ever traveled to different states for conventions?

Though I'm still waiting for more announcements before I make my final decision the Matt Greenfield/Tiffany Grant panel, the dagashi shop, the Akiba shopping zone and the Love Live spotlight sound like fun.

It's a first year convention, so I'd make sure you were super interested in the events. Otherwise it'll have all the typical problems a first year con goes through (poor organisation, potential lack of stuff/sponsors etc.)

Also, Love Live spotlights are generally very meh. I went to SMASH last year and the LL zone was pretty much just the u's costumes and some merch at the madman stall. That said, it was super cool to see the actual stage outfits, but still, not exactly as big as i was expecting.

Yeah, I went there too. I actually really liked the Love Live stuff.

Wasn't good as I'd hoped for (They promised 'Love Live episodes playing throughout the entire weekend' which actually meant '3 episodes on one of the days') but I think Madman are doing an amazing job of marketing the series all things considered. I saw maybe one or two Love Live cosplays at SMASH 2014 but at last year's event I literally could not escape Love Live.

But yeah, I'm still waiting to see what else there is before making a decision. I suppose I could ask Shino Natsume about Space Dandy but the panel is going to be mostly about One Punch Man which doesn't interest me at all. The Akiba zone and the dagashi shop has a lot of potential to disappoint too so I wouldn't base an entire trip around them.

Doubt it'll be as bad as Unicon or Dashcon though. I can at least say that much.

It says the Madman LL zone will be 'Standees for pics' + music etc., so it could be good, could be bad. If it's literally JUST the cardboard standees i'll be dissapointed.

I live in Melb so i'll be going regardless, but yeh, hoping the dagashi and food stalls are gonna be good. They sound good, hoping its not like 3 bags of snacks and one overpriced Takoyaki stand.

I'm in NSW. Went to Animaga last year and enjoyed it even though it was small and some crap happened like the conflict between the maid cafe and cafeteria not communicating and running out of food. There weren't any super elaborate cosplays to look at, but that was alright. I was able to find a good place to stay within walking distance. I'm kinda disappointed it's moving to another location which doesn't seem nearly as charming and accessible though.

The Madman one does seem like it's better organised than most other first year cons. I mean, they're already got their site up and all their guests and that. Most cons barely have that even a couple weeks out, let alone a few months. At the same time, I do think it could be disappointing. Madman is pretty cheap (getting Asuka's voice actresses isn't that difficult since her Japanese one lives in Australia anyway), so it's likely they'll skimp out on some stuff.

During the morning I also managed to have the zipper on my dress completely seize up for no reason, spill coffee on said outfit and then realise the SD camera card was left back at home. Not my best morning but everything worked out in the afternoon.

One of the groups in the Saturday Costume Comp got disqualified.

They were a group of about 6 or 7 Heroes Oddesy LARPers from some eastern themed clan.

They told the organisers that their skit was going to be a mild, organised fight. But they ended up just whaling on each other really hard with their weapons.

A friend of mine went on after them, so she could hear the organisers talking to each other over the radio about calling down management and pulling them out of the comp.

Not quite sure what happened after that, but they weren't there for the group photo at the end.
