Do you guys think it would look silly if I used pom poms like these in my hair when in a casual nanchatte coord. Or should I save it for going to a theme park or someplace where dressing weird is accepted.

It might look a bit silly but not any sillier than any sweet lolita's head eating bow. If it suits you, your hairstyle and the coord you had in mind, and you think it's cute, wear it.

For 30,000 Yen you can get a starter kit on yahoo auction. All the stuff here is L size, and the skirts are 75cm waist. Plus it's a good deal for conomi stuff.

Anyone know a good place for summer uniform skirts, hopefully not too expensive? I've been searching high and low, but I'd rather get a nice recommendation from someone before I end up buying a thin piece of cosplay/fetish crap that won't cover my ass. My current skirt is like winter uniform length and thickness, so just looking for something slightly lighter like an actual summer uniform piece.

>>8911340
Yes, absolutely.
>>
>>8911424
Land's End, all the way. Wait for their inevitable sales (sometimes everything is 40% off) and snag tartan skirts from below-knee length to above-the-knee length for like $7 a piece. Make sure to check sizing, though.
>>
>>8911424
Awesome.

If anyone else is interested, just email me a little introduction about yourself and a skype name so we can have a group chat.

Cole Haan released a bunch of loafers in cool colors that go to a 9.5. They're expensive though: $150 average but they are well made and penny loafers do make a very versatile addition to any wardrobe.

>>
>>8908682
Just a heads up, if you want a knockoff CS bag, I had bought one recently from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271953403911?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=570786647584&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Wasn't getting it for nanchatte, just needed a bit of a bigger bag to lug around. It's a decent build.
>>

Has anyone bought from this store? It's on the spreadsheet. I plan on ordering two sets of sailor uniforms and loafers. The photos girls in the reviews make the outfits look good for the price, but I'd feel better if I heard from another gull with a positive review.

If anyone has recommendations for sailor uniform sets (I'm all about convenience) on Taobao, I'm all ears. I'm looking for both a summer and a winter set.

Thanks anon. I just already own of of Bodyline's skirts and they're surprisingly thick, hard to wrinkle when wearing, and they hold a pleat amazingly (plus adjustable waistband and hidden pocket) so I'm 100% dedicated to getting this Bodyline one, even if I may have to pay $15 for it.

Sorry, I just now saw your reply. I'll post some pictures.

I've been pretty pleased with the quality. I use it in place of a purse because I tend to carry a lot of stuff with me.

I had to buy a crossbody strap separately because the listing I used didn't provide one for pink, so I just bought a grey one for about $3 with another seller.

Same. It's super cute though but reminds me of those tennis looks.

Me too, anon. But I'm 22 and my country doesn't have school uniforms so I'd look weird as fuck wearing nanchatte. Don't go to conventions either so there's no opportunity to wear it at all.

How high do you gulls wear your skirts? When I used to have to wear uniforms, they sat all the way up on my waist.

I'm a short pear now though, and I worry that wearing it that high will make me look squished.
>>
Is nanchatte okay for plus sizes?
>>
don't you guys ever feel kind of boarderline weeby dressed like this? I think it looks super cute and I've bought clothes with the intention of wearing it on dates with my boyfriend (we go to the mall/arcades mostly, nothing fancy) but I just can't bring myself to do it.
>>
>>8926454
Sure, just wear your skirts with opaque tights.
>>
>>8926454
Yes. Real uniforms have to be accommodating for all sizes and nanchatte isn't different
>>
>>8926467
I do sometimes; it's no cat ears and anime tee though, and at least nanchatte is mainstream-friendly enough that nobody's gonna pick up on it right away.
>>
>>8926467
I feel about as weeb-y as I did in elementary-middle school having to wear uniforms.

That being said, I opt more for the button downs with cardigans as opposed to the seifukus. The latter to me personally would feel kind of weeb-y, but that's just me.

>>
>>8927459
>on Taobao
Eyy, you came to the right place, anon. Taobao addict at your service!

>jk 大衣 (JK coat)
Seems to be the best term so far but that's for coats to be worn over uniforms, not specifically for blazers themselves.

>JK制服外套 (JK uniform blazer)
Seems to work a bit better? It'll show you sweater vests, cardigans, and some blazers but you'll have to sift through the results to find what you want.
>>
>>8927759

is there any word/way to look up ones that can be custom?
>>
>>8927763
I hope you mean custom blazer. I'm going to assume you did anyway but I'm not sure if you mean custom size or custom design (since Taobao is popular for unique 'private university' looks) but I'm going to assume custom size.

>jk 西装 定制 (JK customized suit)
This brings up results so I assume it's good but I may be wrong because it may be for custom sizes or for shop custom designs.

I'm the one who asked for the blazer term, but wow thanks for all of this!

A but on topic, could the school blazer, even for girls, be replicated with a men's blazer that fits to size? Most that I see on Japanese girls look kind of boxy, unlike the ones specifically fitted for women.

Thank you again!
>>
>>8908698
Oh gosh this is cute
Where could I get an outfit like this? Or what search terms could I use on taobao to find something there?
>>
>>8927778
Also I wanted to add, if anyone is interested and good at it, maybe it'd be a good idea to include nanchatte search terms for places like TaoBao, Y!Auctions, etc. to the spreadsheet.
>>
>>8928191
Taobao-anon here. I'd be happy to help translate search terms that might work (like I did above) so others can add them to a list. I just blank when it comes to coming up with things to search myself.
>>
>>8928285
Hm, well any and all terms for blazer have been done. Maybe just other parts of nanchatte?

Pleated skirt (I don't know if plain or plaid color could figure in)
Button down blouse/shirt
Uniform tie (both bow and regular tie)
Shoes (I know they're loafers but I don't know of there is a specific term for them)
Socks (stuff like OTK, thigh high, loose socks, etc.)
Cardigan
V neck sweater

Those are all off the top of my head. Hopefully others can think of more.
>>
I was running through taobao to buy some blouses and stumbled across a store that has a lot of nanchatte stuff, not sure if anyone would be interested but here:
https://kyouko.taobao.com/search.htm?spm=a1z10.1-c.0.0.fwKb7I&search=y
Hope it helps someone!

the vast majority of schools have pretty generic and/or frumpy uniforms though, as well as strict uniform regulations. The schools with the really cool uniforms and freedom for personal expression etc are often specialist high schools more akin to college (often specialising in things like hair and beauty).

I think the fact that many Japanese uniforms aren't actually all that, with many restrictions is why nanchatte is quite popular.

Er anyway, I don't why I went off on one there really anon, I'm totally with you, attending a school like that would be amazing, like a dream and almost to good to be true.

What >>8928556 said. There was an a recent interview with some high school girls in Japan posted a while back where they said their schools were really strict and they couldn't dye their hair, wear makeup, or anything. So when school was over they changed their school ties/skirts and put on makeup and accessories to hang out and look more fashionable.

That's a part of why nanchatte is so popular because high school girls can be fashionable in their off time when they're pretty frumpy during school times and high school graduates can enjoy the cute look as well and relive their school days.

I know that level of nostalgia is hitting me. I graduated in 2007 and wore frumpy clothes and didn't dress well back then and now that I'm finally planning on going to college I sort of want to relive the carefree youth thing and be cute for once, hence nanchatte. I'm not really brave enough to wear it outside of conventions yet but I'd love to go on outings with other nanchattes someday like they do in Japan.

Wearing nanchatte to Disney/Universal would be a dream come true.
>>
>>8928568
You are the best anon.
>>
>>8926467
Most people just think I'm in high school, or that I'm wearing a high school uniform for some reason. Normies aren't going to pick up on it's weebiness.
>>
>>8928788
I get this a lot, but I also get compliments quite a bit, even more so than I do in lolita. (Nanchatte is a lot more approachable I suspect).

As for >>8926467 at first I felt kind of unsure, like I stood out, but I got used to it. Dates are the perfect time to wear something cute. My husband loves me in nanchatte, especially the zettai ryouiki. Nanchatte comes in different flavours, too. You could wear a pastel seifuku (in fact I'd argue this is probably too costumey for nanchatte even but eh) vs. a classy navy skirt and blazer. Big difference. Sure, you could style it weeby but you can dress it in a classy, clean way too.
>>
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but..
I bought a pleated skirt a while back from aliexpress, and it's a tad too big for me around the waist
Is it possible to modify it so it's smaller?
>>
>>8928556
>>8928572
Yup, I realize that's a special talent-beauty high school and that usual JP schools have strict standards. I found the picture off of a Popteen model's twitter (Nicole Fujita). It looks like an absolute blast to attend!
>>
>>8929411
There are a few options to you. You can take it in via sewing (I don't sew myself but I've had a relative do that for me on skirts and it sounded fairly straight forward) or you could go the easy route and safety pin the back of it to tighten it a bit. Rolling it at the waist may help to.

It all depends on whether you can sew or you know someone who can (unless you want to pay for it to be altered) or if you just want a quick fix.
>>
>>8928865
Yeah, I get compliments on it too. Nobody's ever said I looked bad wearing it, so >>8926467, go for it and wear it!
>>
>>8929411
Do you happen to still have the link for the skirt? Been trying to find bigger pleated skirts.

>>

>>
What kind of hair and makeup do gulls like doing for nanchatte?
>>
>>8929467
I do have a sewing machine, but I'm not super experienced in sewing
I'm not sure how it would work out, with the pleats and everything
I guess I could search around for some tutorials
>>8929766
I'll look it up when I get on my computer! It wasn't really that big, and I think I ordered a pretty big size
I also have an American apparel tennis skirt from Aliexpress, I'll look if I can find the link
It's pretty short though, so I'm not sure if it's good for nanchatte
>>

preferably brown ones that don't look like cheap plastic.
or any brown loafer that don't look too fake
>>

>>
The pleated skirts from Aliexpress/Ebay are good quality?I bought one in bright red some time ago and i'm waiting for it, not sure what to expect but i want to wear also with non nanchatte coordinates.
>>
>>8931637
First of all, there are thousands of different sellers on Aliexpress and eBay, you can't just say "are the pleated skirts good?", because there are probably thousands of listings, and they can vary in quality since the sellers can get them from different suppliers
Secondly, there's an Aliexpress thread, you're probably better of asking there
Lastly, if you had checked for something with good feedback before ordering, you would have known what to expect

K-on's outfit is one of the few anime schoolgirl outfits that look natural. If you don't wear the wig/style your hair to look like the character, you can probably get away with it. I have that cosplay myself, that the blazer is actually really comfortable and an essential part to my nanchatte outfits.
Even if it seems too much together (I have hair styled similarly to Mio so I feel too obvious with this set), you can easily swap out any of the four components to make new outfits.

It has a similar color scheme to pic related. The easiest way to make that outfit look non-K-on would be to swap out the thin ribbon with a bow or tie.

Glad I could help! One of the things I noticed when making nanchatte outfits is that if I have a plain skirt, I want a patterned ribbon and vice versa - plain ribbon patterned skirt.
Also, the thin ribbon they give you is shiny so it's a little annoying but having a thin ribbon can be cute if you're going for a more subdued color block look. Usually just go for a simple outfit sans blazer, or more sporty if that's your thing.
>>
>>8933127
I realized the first paragraph is a bit weird. Basically, patterned can go with patterned, but if you have something plain usually you want a pattern to push it from prep to nanchatte.
Also bottom left on pic is basically the K-on outfit

Hmm, I'm not sure why it replied to that post.

Anyway. for anyone who wants another custom option, the uniform vendor Cookie's has their own brand, which they'll do custom sizing for most of their clothing.

(this is good for anyone who wants that yankee look) https://www.cookieskids.com/Product.aspx?l=00000000000000000000&p=BJS01257

Any item that can be customized mentions so in the description. I got a quote of $35 for plain color, $45 for plaid for a pleated skirt that stops a little above the knee.

I'll be making a masterpost in the FB group for Custom/Plus Sized options for anyone who is interested.

Well, a general guide would be good, with things like a breakdown of outfits, tips on hair and make-up, where to buy etc. this would go well with the store spreadsheet.

Another question I see pop up often is whether it's okay to be plus size and wear the fashion. Also (even in this thread) seen gulls discussing where to wear the fashion to and how to get started in it, worries about its weebness etc.
>>
what kind of wigs do you guys think would work best with nanchatte?
I'm just getting into this fashion, but my hair won't really work, since it's not that natural
>>
>>8943955
A simple natural colored wig that you can get different hairstyles out of would be fine. An unnatural colored wig could be okay if nobody can trace it back to a character and it looks good.

Also if anyone has their own thoughts on the answers to these sorts of questions, I'd like to incorporate those into the FAQ as well.

Not the exact same but the pattern for the bow itself is pretty similar. Then just sew a strap in which to fish those elastic bow straps through.

Have you also tried asking the anon who posted it?

While the regular, "traditonal" uniform style is still going strong, it seems trend-wise, casual/sporty is very popular right now.
>>
>>8932889
This was my actual school uniform minus the bow, we wore a striped navy tie (think Ravenclaw). You could getaway with it, but not this crappy Bodyline version.
>>
Do you think I could use an oversized Abercrombie v-neck sweater and button up shirt in nanchatte? Would gaudy?
>>
>>8945644
*Would it be gaudy
Bleh, what are words
>>
>>8945644
Pics? There's no special brand for the swesters or anything, but I think the sweaters are worn a tiny bit fitted. Not stuck to form, but I guess it just depends on how oversized?

Hey >>8944612 , this would go well into a guide/faq as well.

I think it'd be good to post the questions here and assemble answers from seagull responses.

Tips on keeping outfits seasonal (keeping warm/cool depending on weather) would probably be a good FAQ addition also. A few months back people were discussing how to keep warm quite a bit.
>>
>>8946606
Thanks! I just started writing an FAQ last night, so I'm watching the thread for new questions/inspiration for questions to write on.

>>8945953
My mistake! I think I thought "close to form" = "fitted," they're boxy and a little baggy. Personally, I buy men's v-neck sweaters and cardigans to achieve the same look.

Also, if anyone wants to buy extremely pricey parts of nanchatte, I somehow stumbled across this http://www.passing-fancy.com/cosplay/schoolsweaters.html

>>8945852
Congrats! I followed last night, I was nanchatteseifuku, I'll probably throw up the FAQ and other info I find there.
>>
>>8946403
Thrifted it but you can probably find it on bodyline like anon said.
>>
So this is a little weird but I'm on the hunt for nanchatte photos of maybe a little chubbier girls. I'm googling around (and mostly finding porn lol) but I'll post some of the OK stuff I find. Some of the girls I think look cute while being chubby, some are just average looking.

I dunno, I really like seeing the more average photos of Japanese people.
