Last thread got nuked.
Any advice for wearing Jfash styles at work?
Experiences and coords you are inspired by are all welcome.

Depending on where you work, the main thing is usually the amount of skin you show. At my workplace the rules are no cleavage and no skirts more than a few inches above the knee. I've still managed to wear quite a number of cute, casual skirts and dresses that are jfashion inspired that fit within that framework.

I generally wear Larme or himekaji inspired outfits. Himekaji is a bit harder because of the skirt length requirement, but I have some nice long pink skirts and I am hoping to get a tulle skirt like some of the longer ones Liz Lisa puts out. I wear a lot of ank rouge and Liz Lisa tops. For Larme I've started wearing black pencil skirts with nice sweaters, I just have to take care with the length. What looks acceptable on one person could look hoochy on me if I'm jot careful. Cons of being a little taller.

Also curious about what people have gotten away with in terms of color. I have worn pastels, but I usually limit them to more washed out rather than super bright colors. I'm curious if anyone has gotten away with wearing sweet lolita or fairy kei or something to work. Classic or otome seem better suited to the workplace.

I like this coord. Maybe with dark plain tights and black heels, it'd be quite workplace appropriate.

I'm so sorry for the quality. It was a quick photo before work.

Normally I wear a chef coat at work but we went to a food show for half of the day so I took full advantage of that.
>>
Does anyone else feel that our interest in Jfashions like lolita and otome have skewed how we view regular fashion?

Is this thread a good place to ask this?
>>
>>8881598
I absolutely think it's skewed my normal fashion sense, even my normie wardrobe is full of stockings and chiffon and lace.
I have plain work clothes, obviously, but they're still very feminine and on the rare occasions when I have to wear makeup to work I go for light Korean-style makeup instead of caked-on foundation.
>>
>>8881598
I definitely feel like it has. I have a large collection of legwear, most of my outfits are lace or chiffon. When I go shopping I look at pieces and consider if it could be used for otome.

I also think I've become better at combining complimentary colours.
>>
>>8881598
I feel like it's the opposite for me. I started getting into cute/interesting dresses a couple years ago and loved how versatile/easy they were to wear. Lolita/Otome is kind of an extension of that, but the dresses are cuter and more interesting.
>>
>>8881598
Definitely! My outfits are often lolita levels of matchy.
>>
>>8881598
Yup. I've been trying to dress way down so I don't stand out as much but apparently I still managed to get myself a reputation of dressing strangely. I don't even understand how to dress 'normally' anymore unless I'm literally wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
>mfw someone at work said "oh so you're the tartan doll girl!"
>tfw I have no face
Could be worse, I guess.
>>
>tfw you work a night shift job where you sit and type for 8 hours
>no point in dressing cute
>you never even interact or talk to anyone

I like my job, and the isolated aspect of it, but I wouldn't ever wear lolita to it, even though we don't really have a dress code other than "don't wear pajamas". Oh well. I'll just continue wearing lolita when I'm out and about I guess. Maybe one day I'll have a 9-5 office job where I can experiment with nice, clean looks and get feedback and stuff
>>
>>8881598
For sure. The biggest change for me was showing shoulders. I can wear sleeveless dresses, off-shoulder necklines, and button down sleeveless tops, but I feel uncomfortable baring shoulders otherwise.
>>
>>8881508
I love everything about this.
>>
>>8881526
Oooh this is lovely
>>
>>8881874
Same but i actually like it because i'm just feeling too lazy to dress up to work i rather wear my super cute stuff at home or when i go out. And i just wear comfy stuff at work like this sweater.
>>
>>8881598
now i'm sooo picky about lace's quality on a regular blouse or dress
>>
I used to dress in sweet lolita when i was 21 and i would sell churros so yeah not the best job ever but i still had a fun experience with people, i got to wear what i liked and the people were generally sweet or they were like "oh ok fine". Especially old people. But yeah didn't make enough money so now i have a more "serious" job above minimum wage.
>>
my job can be quite...dirtying since i'm working with earth,flowers,plants,...so yeah not the best idea
i used to dress in lolita 7d/7 when i was at home and did nothing "productive" i would just post on 4chan and the like all day, watch animu, talk with boyfriend,go to sleep and sometimes have a panic attack or really terrible anxiety. Sad times. But now i'm all better and i still get to wear lolita during weekends or even after work if i'm not too "tired".

>>8882374
You're being dumb. That's part of it, not all of it. like I said I don't see a point in wearing it when I literally sit in a cubicle for 8 hours and talk to no one. It would be like getting dressed up to browse 4chan.
>>
>>8882394
I wear my cute stuff even if I'm just gonna be at home all day so I really don't get your point of view. I wear it for my own personal enjoyment, not so others can see me. If I do go out though then it is nice when I get a compliment, I'll give you that.
>>
>>8882427
Okay, so, the lesson for you here is that not everyone gets the same level of personal enjoyment from dressing up to sit on their ass for hours. Different strokes. Stop shitting up this thread with your superiority complex.
>>
>>8882435
Stop shitting up a thread about dressing up in jfashion for work by talking about how you can't dress up for work due to your own stupid hang ups. How's that?

I don't see what the big deal is? My post was related to the thread. Why are you so salty? If you would be okay with dressing up in my shoes that's great, but I wouldn't, and I expressed that I would like to in another job in the future.

People make posts like that all the time in these threads

The person shitting up the thread is you
>>
>>8882514
If that wasn't you then sorry the outburst. I was simply responding in kind to the response I received.

I don't get why you're being so salty either. Some of us do get dressed up to just "sit around" so I don't really understand your need to be seen by other people in your job. That is all.

I don't really know, I've never had to explain why I wouldn't want to do my hair, makeup, and wear heels and a nice dress to sit around my house before. At the same time, I don't understand why someone would want to get dressed up just to sit around at home. I guess we can't ever really understand each other because it's just a personal feeling we both have that doesn't have a logical reason. So we can just agree to disagree without making weird judgments about each other, yea?
>>
>>8881874
Same anon. It's not that I dress up for others to look at me and compliment me, I just don't see the point in dressing up if literally nobody is going to see me at all. It's like going to the grocery store at 2am. Nobody is there, nobody is going to notice or see so I don't spend the time dressing up when I'm alone.
if I move to a job where there are others around me I'd probably dress up more since I'd be around others.
>>
>>8882533
I do it as a hobby and I don't feel the need to share my hobby with others. It's like not wanting to play video games online even if the game has an online component. Sometimes I'm just fine without it.

Then again I don't wear lolita so the time it takes to get dressed is drastically less than full lolita get up. I don't know that id wear full lolita either if I was just gonna sit around. I wouldn't wear full Lolita to work even though I see people all day because it's just too combersome.
>>
>>8882556
That's my biggest problem, it is inconvenient in my workplace.
Answering a phone every 5-10 minutes while wearing a wig or a hat or headbow gets very annoying. Even normal small earrings are bothersome. Rings and bracelets and wristcuffs get in the way of digging through files and paperwork. Petticoats aren't typically office chair friendly either, and getting up and down to grab this or make copies of that means adjusting my skirt/petti every 5 minutes.
>>
>>8882569
I would probably only wear stuff like Fannie Rosie wears. Big petticoats would just be the worst if you had to get up all day long.

Maybe otome would also be easier?
>>
>>8882556
Diff anon, but I personally find it very inconvenient to be dressed up just to sit in front of a computer for 8 hours or something, fitted dresses and things like that can get quite uncomfortable, accessories get in the way, and I can't see my outfit in full either so it's not like I get to enjoy it that much.

For the topic of this thread, I think it's absolutely possible to wear otome or lolita items to a relaxed work environment, I work in tech and I've never had anyone say anything. If you're in a law firm or consulting or something, might be best to stick to normalfag office wear.

Axes femme? This was one of my recent work outfits, but I'm working with a smart casual dress code (no jeans, but the guys I work with tend to do chinos+ shirt, boss comes to work in floaty tunics + pants) so probably only appropriate for a more casual work place.

My job is in retail and I work in a lenient section where we're allowed to dress trendier to a degree obviously. I just like dressing up when I can. I feel like if you switched out my jacket for cardigan/blazer or put a collared blouse under the sweater it could be a cute way to sneak something a little larme kei into the office.
>>
>>8882535
>>8881874

Weirdly enough, this would mainly encourage me to dress up more. I mean, there's no one to stare at you or judge you, no one to complain you're not adhering to office rules, equally no one to bitch about you being ita without a petticoat,

and it's a nice and easy way to brighten up the day.

Although I could see how >>8882569 makes it problematic if your chosen style is lolita.
>>
Otome I wore one day. I'd probably change the boots to dressier shoes and tights and probably nix either the earrings or beret (both could be a bit much for the office).
>>
>>8882993

>>8882569 here. I tried wearing it twice before, once a full simple coord and one super casual but I found that both were bothersome. Another issue I found was being harassed by the pieces of shit neighbors we had that would come running out of their office to come say some shit when I'd go out to check the mail. (not "hey bo peep wheres ur sheep lolol good one" but more aggressive sexual comments) Thankfully we're moving to a very classy area with way better neighbors so I might be able to swing some otome.

See, that's the thing. The other anon said she didn't want to dress up because they interact with nobody while they're at work, which I take it to mean they don't see other co-workers or neighbours either. So there would be no one to harass them for anything they wear.

That's like a godsend, I'd just take it as licence to go full hikki-kei, or pack a comfy kigu to change into at work since there's truly nothing to stop me from dressing in all the worst or weirdest ways possible.

Sorry to hear you had such terrible neighbours. Hope your new area allows you to dress cute more often.

On a different note, I've always wondered if anyone ever actually wore MM's Emmanuel jacket to work.
>>
>>8883170
I definitely think there's a perception of pastels as less formal - it's not just your imagination. Darker and neutral clothes tend to be associated with work environments and work uniforms so anything that isn't in that spectrum is automatically more casual or unusual

Any tips for dressing down Lolita items to look more "normal"?
Sometimes it tends to look quite bad and jarring (pic related).
I tend to pair jsks with a simple short bolero and skirts with a regular cute T shirt. However I find that dressier jsks are just not meant to be dressed down. It'd be like wearing a couture gown with sneakers. (Can be pulled off but it's difficult.

It's not something that can really be done with printed items that aren't florals I feel. And even then the outfit will never be 'normal' at best you'll be channeling vintage vibes at worst you'll look like church just got out.

Ah I'm not referring to this outfit but more of in general? Take note that this jsk has a much simpler cut and styling than the usual Lolita jsks. So even if it it isn't floral it can still look passable if you pair it with a solid coloured cardigan and simple accessories.

Try JetJ and IW. JetJ practically has a rep for being nearly normalfag with some of their painting dress with no fancy embellishments.

Certain IW dresses can generally be worn without a petticoat and a (normal) cardigan to look exactly like any other floral print dress that you'd find at a normalfag store.
>>
>>8883465
If she's gone for a plain tan jacket this would have actually looked much better.
My personal thoughts are that only plainer jsks and skirts truly lend themselves to being dressed down, and often you still end up with a dressy retro inspired outfit which stands out a bit.
Things like turtlenecks with skirts, normie jackets, low poof, wearing normal shoes and keeping styling simple are all useful.

>Nearly normalfag

Just plain normalfag
>>
>>8883849

Nah, not yet. It's still pretty rare to find normalfag dresses that (a) can accommodate a full petticoat, and (b) actually reach the knees with a petticoat on. Most manufacturers like like to end dresses above the knees, so with a petti they're too short for lolita. As clearly shown in your own comparison photos.

And anyway most JetJ dresses are cooler. They like to put strange things on like garden gnomes, Jesus, naked women and so on.

That's cool! The people in my company seem really fun and down to earth too.
My previous company was really toxic and people commented on my dressing like "where did you even but this?" "You should show more skin!"
It really made me super self conscious...Hope things will be better this time round.

Also a thing to keep in mind when dressing in jfashion for work, it may be best to as your manager first. I ask them if I can wear certain things on occasion and most have been ok but some have been vetoed. I just show them a picture on my phone.

As everyone else said, the plainer the item the easier it is to dress down. The flatter the petti the better. I wear JSKs with no blouse in the summer, a pair of wedges/nice sandals and simple accessories, like a nice pair of earrings or a plain bracelet. You'll look dressy, but it'll be a normalfag dressy. For skirts, I like to wear plain sleeveless tops and wedges. Again, it won't be lolita, but it's a nice way of wearing them in places where lolita wouldn't be appropriate. Most of my stuff is plain IW and some plainer Meta and AATP, I don't think you can do much to tone down the fancier prints.

jesus, I wish I could walk into Nordstrom and buy a Ted Baker dress with mushrooms or Puss in Boots or antique books on it.

Buy Cath Kidston instead?

I like some of her stuff as just regular clothing, but she also doesn't have much that really fits otome aesthetic and style. A lot of it's either not the right cut or too kitschy without the antique charm element. Ted Baker and Cath Kidston and some other brands probably appeal to a fair number of people who also like JM or JetJ, I have all four in my closet, but they make different styles of clothing and prints.
