New UK thread, since the old one is in autosage.

Who will be the bigger disaster, Kitacon or Pottercon?
>>
Potter con, assuming it even runs.

Even if kita is shit people will enjoy it since all they do is to go there and get drunk.
>>
>>8820963
I wish Kita did day tickets for a tenner, i live in the area, i don't really care about the con goodies, i just want to check it out and meet up with some weebros

But nope, just a 3 day ticket for 40 quid

Kita are refunding the charge from what I hear. They don't want her escalating it and causing anymore trouble. She had her Dad call them and have a go at them

Potter Con has celebrity guests like Paul Redfern who was an unused extra in Deathly Hallows and his forthcoming role as a Gala Guest in #fantasticbeasts
Also you can get a KFC box signed by him too which will be worth the entrance fee just for that
>>
>>8821131
>Paul Redfern who was an unused extra in Deathly Hallows

Please tell me you are having a laff for mentioning this. Is anyone supposed to care he didn't make it to be an EXTRA in a film?

He's on the poster so it's a pretty big deal to get him as a guest
>>

How old is she? it's £15, not exactly breaking the bank
>>
>>8821157
She's around 25 I think, but she's a notorious attention whore.
>>
>>8821240
Name and shame
>>
>>8821240
I hope Kita bans that bitch from their future attendee lists.
>>
>>8821240
more info on this girl seen her around looks like an attention whore
>>
>>8821331
Me too, the second hand embarrassment is intense. Who gives this much of a fuck about £15? I lost an admin fee when I cancelled my ticket to Aya a few years ago, I didn't feel the need to have a screaming shitfit about on twitter.
>>
>>8821099
Why would they refund her? If she didn't read the T&C's it's her fault, they don't need to do shit.
>>
>>8821347
They got fed up of her whining and her Dad called them shouting about lawyers
>>
>>8821157
>>8821344
>>8821347
From the looks of it, she's not upset about the £15. She's upset that when she asked directly if she'd get a full refund, she was told she would. Meaning no charge regardless of the T&Cs. Only to still be charged.
If I've understood correctly then she's upset about being lied too, not about the loss of money itself.
>>
>>8821349
her dad really call???
>>
>>8821320
Ribbons Cosplay. I always thought she seemed sweet, but this embarrassing display put me way off.

>>8821354
The terms and conditions are up on the site. She should have checked there rather than just the social media. Been there for weeks, too. Why would they break their T&Cs for her? Why would they assume she hadn't read the T&Cs in the first place? It's not being lied to if the information was right there and she ignored it. Getting your dad to fight your battles as a grown adult, over £15, and throwing a tantrum on twitter is embarrassing no matter what.
>>
>>8821360
Apparently she's not the most stable of people. Whatever that means.

If you want to support a cosplayer you do not talk about them on 4chan
>>
>>8822808
You may have actually noticed she is a guest at several conventions this year for a very good reason. She sells tickets! Just like she sold magazines she appeared in. She's one of the most in demand Cosplayers despite what you lot whine about on 4chan
>>
>>8823034
In demand for what though?

White knighting is only any good if you can back it up. Otherwise it's just as much posturing as trolling is.

>>8823103
More being added all the time. I thought 4chan was supposed to know everything. Obviously not!
>>
All those pictures are just tit pics.

Does that count as cosplay nowadays?
>>
>>8823107
None of which are conventions of any note. That's not breaking the glass ceiling that's decking about in the kids sand box.

Photos hoots you book ffs. It's not like there's some exclusive club or badge of honor.

Panels are only any good if people turn up to them actively. Most people just end wondering past and sit down to hear tit's talk.

Appearances....because buying a ticket to an event or standing in place makes you a celebration.

No one is really famous in cosplay in the UK. Stop trying to make it happen.
>>
>>8822909
This is funny because seeing you all beat each other up over tiny details over your costumes and then this person comes along and gets invited to events, sells prints, has website, youtube and is labelled professional cosplayer.
>>
>>8823107
Really? So has she been shot by any of the usual cosplay togs? If not it probably means she isn't all that. You are just kidding yourself love.
>>
>>8823144

Hi kitty. How exactly did you become a professional cosplayer? Did you win competitions? Do you offer successful and helpful panels? Do you do tutorials on how to make costumes? What have you actually even cosplayed?
>>
>>8823152
kek
>>
>>8823152
You lit all seem to cling to this idea of what a Cosplayer is and what they must do but you don't see that Kitty doesn't play by those rules. Everyone thought to be a model you had to look a certain way and then you had alt-models change the game. Kitty is like an Alt-Cosplayer. The old cosplay crowd may not get it but no one really cares what they think
>>
>>8823103
I can think of a panel which would be perfect for her, what should you do when your too fat to be an alternative model
>>

>>
>>8823220

>>
>>8823207
Fashion and modelling is about the clothes and about the bodies.

Cosplay is the art of wearing/re-creating a character. It is what it is. There's lots of ways of practicing it but it's still an either/or hobby.

'Alt-cosplay' is just fancy dress.
>>
>>8823227
true but least she's done somewhat of a few attempts of accurate cosplays even if she is shooped from hell and back, unlike our very own world famous Kitty Brooker
>>
>>8823207

I think you have to actually cosplay to be a cosplayer.....
>>
>>8823207
"alt-cosplayer" made me sick
>>
>>8823207
It's a bit insulting when alt-models and glamour models try to bastardize cosplay desu. It makes the whole cosplay community in general look ridiculous
>>
>>8823274
it is funny how loads of cosplayers would make better models that kittyburster anyway. She can't pose or do makeup and has anyone noticed she's a fat ugly talentless fuck.

What it seems with the UK 'cosfamous' is the ones that keep coming up again and again are those that do networking and know how to market themselves.

Loads of maybe more talented work that just are quite happy with how they are, and just don't know how to market themselves properly.

Interesting disparity when you start thinking about it. Like Eevee, her cosplays are barely that, but she's somehow (bought likes aside) got loads of togs shooting her almost constantly.
>>
>>8823403
Actually, how do a cosplayer market themselves in order to be well known in or out of the community?
>>
>>8823408
get their tits out and hope they are good enough to go viral
>>
>>8823408
Stay out of circlejerks or groups that generally stuckup themselves. Have decent portfolio of the costumes you have by decent photographers. Provide help and show progress of how you made your costumes. And don't use kickstarter or similar fund your hobby.

You lose all respect when you start using patreon.
>>
>>8823327
Lol, go to the papers. Pk snap himself is baned from other events because of being a pervert. It'll back fire and get himself arrrested.

Regular updates is the most important thing, that most cosplayers don't do. Not necessarily many, but regular, predictable updates about their wips; then a small selection of high quality photos of the results. Outreach and interaction, basically.
>>
>>8823571
cont. Regular updates fail mostly because for the majority cosplay is just a hobby so real life, job, family, other commitments etc take precedence and as such an online presence is harder to maintain in regards to reliability.
>>
>>8823574
this, plus some people don't want to be cosfamous and are happy just posting things now and again and taking part when they have time from work/life.

Not everyone doing cosplay wants to be cosfamous, certainly not the more talented and older crowd
>>
>>8823703
Yeah but the discussion was about becoming cos-famous. So those that actively opt out of having an online presence aren't really relevant to the point.

Cosplay is essentially a fandom project. In the same way fan art is. Dominate a niche and you'll corner a market. Wether it's picking a specific character or series, or going for 'sexy', 'cute' some over arching theme, if you put out reliable content you'll get a following.

But there's a difference between having an online following and being recognised in person. Two different crowds really.~

It depends what you want out of it.

You want to be internet famous? Do what everyone before you did and sell yourself.

>>
>>8823703
This. I have maybe an hour each evening to do cosplay. Nobody wants to see shots of the same huge applique piece I've been steadily working on for the last week. My Facebook is like 'omg you've not posted on your page for 7 days' but I give zero fucks - once it's done, I'll post it, with a video tutorial showing how I did it. I don't have that many likes, but my reach is good because people liked my page for the content, whenever I post it.
>>
>>8824689
Stacey shot nudes with Lucas but then he kept badgering her to shoot with him all the time and she got pissed off with him and doesn't work with him anymore. He threw a big strop when she did a lingerie shoot with someone else
>>
>>8823403
Actually from what I heard she begs togs to work with her and they don't. And loads of togs? It's been the same 3 or 4 togs that's been taking loads of photos with her

dumb newbie question: where can i find a list of UK cons? i know thought bubble and the one in newcastle radio arena, but not of any others

I think it was around £180 including insurance for my friend and I last time. If not a little more, depending. £90 for the table, £30 extra for an extra ticket then £60 for insurance through their company. I used to just provide a guarantee but now insurance is mandatory because of the venue.

This poster is either:

A. Victoria (who ever the fuck this manbeast is)

B. Vendetta-chan
>>
>>8832593
Nothing is likely to top Aya13 because that con was golden.

Amecon last year in the Brit was a very mixed bag. The time table was empty, the sound system in the main room was TERRIBLE and the venue was literally falling apart. Someone almost died on the Saturday because a window pane fell out of a window on the top floor.

However, this year Amecon is at Warrick. The best venue. So it should be pretty fucking sweet.
>>
>>8832908
You can't really blame amecon for a sparse schedule. If people don't submit events there's only so much they can do.

I've always enjoyed amecon but they've definitely suffered trying to find a good location so I'm hoping that at Warwick they'll be able to pull off something to rival ayacon. After another year of kita at the Hilton I can't wait tbf.
>>
>>8832889
Oh wow. She looks even older than yaya. Surely if she's that old she must have done something with her life.

>>8834985
It's really funny when they get cocky thinking they're going to win and shitpost about it everywhere then drop out a few days before because they didn't finish the costume.
>>
>>8834992
i think like 28 people dropped out last year, and 24 the first year so it'll probably be the same this year. Maybe more, seeing as the con is a month early
>>
>>8835002
How many places are there? I can't imagine they would take on 50+ competitors only to have half drop out.

pretty sure there are 50. But each place could be a double too so

I think it's because ultimately, we're all secretly ashamed of our hobbies, most brits lack that final step to go all in.

Plus everyone is miserable, lazy and depressed all the time.

Cosplay is less prevalent in the UK because fewer adults have been infantalised by juvenile Japo-American obsessive consumerism.

>>
>>8836087
by 'cosplay standrad' do you just mean the very few who are known to those outside their own countries comm?
Because I can tell you, the actual general quality of costumes from those countries are average. But at least, unlike the U.K they do actually have some incredible cosplayers that the U.K seems to lack.
>>
>>8836596
Yes. No country has a high costume quality being the norm so therefore you end up having to look at the top people in each country and comparing them against each other. If you do that, then the countries I mentioned end ranking pretty high on the list.

Unless you have countries that you think would be better as I can't really think of any?
>>
>>8836768
Almost every single asian country, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, South korea etc.
Granted a large majority of them have consistent high quality due to the popularity of costuming there and sites like taobao but, overall the norm is higher there and produces some of the best costumes in the world.

Brazil and some south american countries, as well ofc as USA also produce costumes just as high quality as france/germany etc.

It's literally just the U.K for being the shit anomaly. go us. ( or you, i'm from eastern europe in a country that cosplay doesn't exist in any way.)
>>
>>8836817
I'd say Russia has some of the best, if not the best, cosplay quality
>>
>>8836817
I was going to say. Most Asian cosplayers buy their costumes (not to mention they can buy perfectly styled wigs and extreme photoshop is much more accepted there). It's hard to compare an average store bought cosplay against a slightly below average handmade cosplay.

But if I was to take the top 10 cosplayers from every country with an active community and rank them against each other to see which country came out top or had the most in the top 10 in the world, I don't think an Asian country would win. It would USA, Russia, Germany, France, Norway (in no particular order), and then followed by the South American, Asian countries and the rest of Europe.
>>
>>8832908
>>8832963
I had heard that are just needs a good venue, and with the Warwick location they will be gold. Looking forwards to it guys. Hope they put anime on the huge screen again.
>>
>>8832963
>You can't really blame amecon for a sparse schedule. If people don't submit events there's only so much they can do.

That's a lie.If your schedule is empty or lacks quality the event orgs need to ask people that can run decent panels to actually run stuff. Even if it's just the committee running panels on various things they are actually informed about.
>>
>>8836866
Oh yeah, I forgot about Russia,
I think you're slightly doubting asian cosplayers, as someone who as seen them first hand they are all a league above the average cosplayer, with their most famous ones being seen as almost representatives of their own country. Like Alodia etc.
They might not seem that big in the western sphere but other than people like Jnig, they don't know any western cosplayers there -- which is where it becomes very hard to compare.

I think you guys really over value the overall popularity of french cosplayers, I will admit germany and norway do produce some incredible talent but overall they're not that well known outside of europe.

To me it'd more likely be USA, asian countries, norway, russia, germany, south american countries, australia and then the rest of europe. Just a tier below everybody else/
>>
>>8837435
Entitled much? ame, kita and aya aren't a business like LSCC and MCM. You're not paying them to entertain you.

Yeah, that amecon didn't have many panels and yeah that was my main gripe, but I enjoyed it. But it was no kita.

I'm sure everyone wants a convention committee member in their jeans and t-shirt telling us how to style a wig (!). Almost all the UK conventions are run by the people who are the least qualified to run a good panel (well the one's I've met anyway). You want actual cosplayers and people who research to run panels, so anon's point stands.
>>
>>8837448
I've also seen asian cosplayers first hand and actually follow more asian cosplays online than I do western ones. Asian cosplayers have the best wigs and makeup without question but because they for the majority wear store bought (easily-accessible) costumes they don't qualify for the top spots in terms of quality. That's just me personally though, I can't rank store bought against handmade.

I also don't think Alodia is that good of an representative. Her most recent cosplays (particularly her very popular GoGo cosplay) wasn't made by her. Whilst she is very popular, I think there are much better asian cosplayers (such as Ying Tze or Yuegene Fay).

Minus the position of the asian countries, I agree with your ranking order though.
>>
>>8837551

Then what are you paying for?

I know for a fact certain Aya and Kita has had panels that were organised by the committee/friends to fill the schedule.

I dunno about your cosplay entitlement but you can't just slap any cosplayer on a wig making panel, so many don't even do their own wigs or do interesting things with it.

Look at Minami, many of the panels are run by the committee who have a vested knowledge in the stuff they are talking about. So when I say "informed" I meant an actual participant about the field they are running the panel on.
>>

>>
>>8837551
>You're not paying them to entertain you.
No it's not like it's a paid for event or anything...
Wtf is this argument?
>>
>>8837551
The point is that you have someone on your committee organising events. These events might be from someone in the committee, someone from the community/attendees or someone external they've researched and contacted. It is not the job of attendees to make sure there's a timetable.
>>
>>8837551
Actually we are paying them to entertain us, the whole point of a residential event is to provide a sufficiently filled out schedule to entertain people for the duration of the con. LSCC and MCM are trade shows, their only obligation is to provide a place for people to whore their shit

>>8837572
Actually wouldn't mind some kind of list of people who put on decent panels. Would mean I wouldn't be going in so blind at certain cons.

Ok so.... I never ever thought I would revert into using one of these..... But let me first tell you why. In the past year I have suffered badly with a lot of health problems.... Including a lot of kidney problems and laser surgery on my womb. Recently I had to take a lot of time off work in December because I was poorly due to my surgery and Kidney issues including a very bad kidney infection and a suspected kidney stone. Because I'm supply staff I'm not entitled to any sick pay. So this is a one off campaign, so I can survive the month. I already have a lot of stuff for sale on Facebook to try and make this money, I'm not going to beg, because I'm really not the type of person to asks for someone's help especially with something as sensitive as this. But for once I'm honestly willing to admit I need help.

Cosplayers pose for free and are far more comfortable posing on camera. I've shot with a couple of cosplay friends doing fashion/modeling, and I prefer it over using my own friends. They have better photography etiquette anyways and dont ask for the photos back on the day you took them......
Always feel like the photos are better appreciated with cosplayers too (dont get me wrong, some are absolute cunts and dont even say thank you if you get a photo back to them from a con, but majority are fine)

I don't think I'm the best or anything but I've been enjoying challenging myself with cosplay and I feel like I've definitely gotten better over the years.

>>
>>8849919

You need to give some good in betweens if you want to scale it like that.

I'd say I'm an above average-to-good cosplayer. I make all of my own stuff, have been praised for my technique & neatness and get asked to make tutorials & do commissions. However I don't fully class myself as a "good" cosplayer, because I only do sewing based projects and still have a lot to learn in regards to armour or props.
I know my strengths, my weaknesses and my body type, and I consider them all when choosing what cosplays I do.

An autist had a meltdown in reception on Thursday because the even bigger autist she was sharing with on Friday, Saturday and Sunday phoned the hotel earlier this week and put herself on autist's 1 hotel booking without informing autist 1.

Later learned that autist 1 had the hotel and con boot autist 2 out of the room and into a spare room.

Saw autist 2 walking around looking sorry for herself and autist 1 smirk and give her the finger behind her back.

So everyones registering for toko, see you all their. It's the best con

It beats giving money to Piss-Chan for his shitty Sonicpoo comics

Anyone going to rai-con in Glasgow next month?

Con?
More of a festival.
>>
Toko's a festival; always was. It never classified itself as a con.

I was a gopher/volunteer for them 5 times, I know the committee very well and they're fantastic people to work with. They were absolutely amazing to me the last time I went when I went down with an epileptic seizure.

Sure there have been times when things haven't gone right, but no con/festival is perfect. I don't go any more because of new work commitments, and as well as the fact that I gave up on camping.

I was stupid enough to go to LAGC today; just came home.

Requested to pay at the door online, everything was what I had expected at an AL event but I didn't go for the wonderful fun I wanted to have there :P

I've recently started a small business selling Japanese artbooks, magazines and cosplay books, and I figure the dealers room would be okay to do.
One of the gophers sees me collecting some stock, asks me rudely what I'm doing. I explain, he calls for backup (for some reason). I explain to backup, remaining calm and composed the whole time (cos I'm that kind of fool), until one of them told me to (exact words) "fucking do one!".

Hasn't changed since I gophered when it first started at the Rocket Complex; we all mutinied when we realised he would take all credit and not thank us at all. I've been an anime con gopher for over 10 years and I know my shit both inside the venue and outside.

Heard people outside were given shit as well - "Oh, you haven't paid!" "This ticket isn't yours!" "Where's your ID to prove you're old enough for who-know-who to ogle at?".

I'm going to Amecon in July (gopher again), and I swear if I see who-know-who...

Anyone know who won Cosplay World Masters? Heard they had very few people enter and were desperate for people to enter on the day.

What do you mean by "collecting stock"? Like picking up a bunch of stuff to pay for?
>>

Yet for some reason, people still attend Anime League events
>>
>>8851138
Didn't even know it was happening. Might think about it for next year, though the fact that it's held at an Anime League event is very off-putting.

Tabitha won
>>

>>

Buying a bunch of stuff with the intent to sell later.

First day of LAGC (first time too). It was as poorly organised as I'd heard. They moved half the cosplay stuff from the area it was assigned to a different room halfway through the day.

Most of the stage shows were embarrassing. Kitty Brooker looked fucking disgusting. Saw Kyle, absolute autistic wanker.

Price of drinks was pretty decent though.

I have lost a lot of faith in the UK anime community as it is, in some parts, a pile of manure. Hence why I turn to the US instead.

That long-told saying: "Anime is cool, but it's just the fans that can suck."
>>
>>8851252
She has to go all the way to Turkey now to be a guest because everyone in the UK is tired of her shit
>>
>>8851350
Wow. What a bunch of arseholes. As long as you were paying for your stuff and not trying to black market it at the event itself, it's none of their business what you do with it after purchase.
>>
>>8851476
Price of drinks was decent?? A double vodka mixer was 8 quid
>>
>>8847625
I used to make my own costumes, but nothing anime or cosplay, I'm too autistic to do a solo cosplay and none of my friends enjoy the same kind of anime/games I do.

Hopefully I'll find something and start brushing up my skills, working on a much better bod which is a start.

>>8851534
Don't go to Anime League events, they aren't the UK anime fandom, it's just he-who-shall-not-be-named and his shit storm creating friends, running an event without any dedication, running them for e-penis and nefarious reasons.
>>
>>8851476
Why is Kyle even attending these events, he's basically a Lucas, so many people hate him and avoid him at these events and he doesn't even know it. Sad really.
