I've been on a knitting kick lately and would really like to see what other people have made! Has anyone knitted or crocheted pieces for cosplay, or do you make your own lolita accessories? Cute patterns and inspiration pics would be appreciated!

there are a bunch of knitters in the undertale thread senpai

I'm currently making

The way the pattern was written is a little bit confusing, but easy to follow with some editing so you don't have to scroll around while you knit.

Knitting and crochet are probably more mori and natural kei appropriate than lolita. I could definitely see a cute mori girl knitting in her wooden rocking chair with her squirrel friends.

I've done knitting for cosplay plus made a 4th Doctor scarf for my friend. I really screwed up the scarf pattern by following 2 different tutorials that weren't the same but oh well who's gonna notice.

God this makes me jealous I can't wrap my head around knitting these look gorgeous as hell.
Pic related is the last thing I crocheted for my SS! I have a few unfinished amigurumi keychain for my itabag but I will post them when they all are done. Anybody have a pattern for good doll pants?
>>
>>8807211
It's not hard once you get in the groove of it! These pieces were just flat or ribbed which are like the 2 easiest things ever.
What you made it really cute! It's really out of my element of plain knit flat designs but that's crocheted stuff I'd really like to learn. Did you make it up or use a pattern/template?
>>
>>8807222
I used a couple different patterns for the base and flowers, but I can scrounge around for the original pattern. The only problem I have with knitting I think is I really picked crochet up easily and it is hard for my hands tp do anything past cast in on but I'm still trying to keep on
>>
>>8806874
If a style includes knitwear, it can be knit for. That includes lolita.

I started knitting because I was planning to cosplay as Kotonoha from School Days and felt like it would've been a neat extra prop for photos.
Currently I'm just working on a simple dark red scarf though since I'm still a novice.
>>
>>8807234
I failed to pick up knitting a bunch of times before really starting but the problem was I tried to learn from books. Flat images are so confusing. Once I found youtube tutorials it was a LOT easier.

Hello, another knitting anon here. I mostly took up knitting for an extra oomph in my Mabel Pines cosplays, since she canonically knits her own sweaters. I've since knit undertale sweaters as well haha. Here they are completed in the order completed!

Post Mabel cosplay pls

Not sure which one to post so here's both of the Mabel sweaters, as per your request

>>8807472
Thanks! The first took about 2 months to make and the most recent one was 11 days of knitting plus like 4 of sewing the decorations.

Fun tip: if you're intimidated by the idea of color blocking, there's a technique called duplicate stitching where you kinda hand embroider things over an already existing knit piece! It's what I did fir the shooting star.
>>
>>8807465
you could make some nice dosh doing commissions, especially for Frisks/Charas
>>
>>8807556

Agreed. I would commission a sweater so hard.

Everyone was losing their shit trying to buy those cardigan and sweater in stores but you seem to be the only one who stepped up and knit them!
>>
>>8807671
What pattern did you use for the cardigan? It looks so nice!
>>
>>8807712
I actually fused together like three patterns in order to include everything I wanted, and even ended up making up most of the collar while I was working it. I'm sorry that's not very helpful.
>>
>>8807195
D-do you have a pattern you followed for that frisk sweater anon? I've been having a hard time finding a sweater pattern I like/finding a good pattern that doesn't require me to sign up for a website
>>
>>8808078
You should really look at Ravelry. They have tons of patterns, and you can easily search for very specific items because their categories are so organized. I think this does require an ID and Password, but no fees (unless you want a pattern that costs money), and it's such a valuable and helpful resource, I think it's totally worth it. That's where I find most of my patterns now.
>>
>>8808078
I just got the pattern on a blog. If you can hold on a couple hours until I'm at home I'll post the link!

>>8807211
Here are a few of the patterns I used as inspiration/a base for the brooch! It was a pain in the ass (and the hands towards the end) because I was getting back used to using crochet thread but it is a pleasant project to work on.
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-doiley-flower-corsage (I heavily modified this doily pattern myself to suit my taste, but the small flowers look great)
http://happyberrycrochet.blogspot.com/2014/04/how-to-crochet-mini-rose-with-leaves.html (These are great small roses with almost no effort to be honest you can breeze through these so quickly)
>>
>>8808078
I used this tutorial! http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/FEATknitbynumbers.html
It's a little confusing at times but wherever I got stuck I used youtube tutorials to figure out what it was asking of me. Alterations I made though: made the neck hole larger than it asked (I just stopped knitting sooner rather than continuing raglan decreases), in retrospect I shouldn't have knitted plain so much once attaching the sleeves because without much of a chest it made the top stripe down a little too low. I'm going to take my sweater apart and rip out that extra length to bring the top stripe up, I'm just still mentally preparing to do it.
Alternatively, you could knit 2 big rectangles for the front and back then 2 thinner rectangles for the sleeves and sew them together into the sweater.

Anon I was taught to crochet at age 7-8 and I felt the same way. I crocheted near 50 scarves in two months for charity but couldn't knit a shit. A few months ago I buckled down and said fuck it. A book on making 18" doll clothes, some needles and some youtube videos I am at least passingly proficient and my doll has a hideous, puffy, multicolored sweater.

>>8807677 - I knew I wasn't going to find something accurate enough that I would be happy with, so I just knew I had to make them myself, same as many cosplayers do when altering preexisting items just won't cut it. :3

>>8807712 - I realized I had forgotten to thank you for the compliment, and I feel so bad about that, so thank you very much!

>>8811846
Thank you to you as well. I'm so flattered something I worked on could inspire someone else. <3

I also knitted my Yukiko Amagi (Persona 4) sweater, and while it had many, many problems along the way, I'm still quite proud of it, but hope to make the alterations some time in the future.
I know the photo isn't the best, but you can at least see some of the cabling detail, and that's sort of the focus with her sweater, at least.
>>
I figure we can have a nice discussion about this here now, so what are some good needlecraft heavy cosplay? For jfash what pieces do you like to be yarn (cardigans, accessories, a nice pullover)
>>
>>8812033
I feel like you can make so many cosplays even more heavy with needlecraft if you so choose to do so:

crocheting/tatting/bobbin weaving your own lace
embroidering designs rather than painting them
knitting scarves, mittens, and hats instead of sewing them out of woven fabrics
producing sweaters, sweater vests, etc.
developing your own socks to wear (this has been something I've actually done...)

Otherwise, I'd say Tokyo Ghoul was surprisingly full of specific needlecraft required garments for a number of the characters, and I really wasn't expecting that.

There are frequently so many garments folks make for cosplay that should be knit (even if the creator doesn't do it themselves, which is perfectly okay) that I get so frustrated when people don't seem to understand how to read the image of the character/costume, and know which pieces of clothing should be made of what.
>>
>>8811846
good luck with your sweater vests! you'll be so adorable.
>>
>>8812033
Kyokai no Kanata also had a lot of knit things (case in point, that photoset of the three cosplayers that knit senpai posted).
As for jfash things, awhile ago I asked in the lolita thread what kind of knit things they would like, most of what they said were boleros and cardigans. I was kind of disappoint, because I don't see a lot of lolita being worn with boleros, and most only wear really boring, kinda cheap looking cardigans. I just want to make cute lacey stockings and glovelettes, but no one seemed interested.
Also, anything and everything can knit for mori. Granny squares everywhere. Make a granny square vest. Make a granny square skirt. Make a granny square bag.

I think there is a lot of room in knitwear for general kawaii cute stuff, especially with fuzzy yarn. Currently working on a white version of pick related. Sorry for potato quality photo. Oh! So I have loads of embroidery floss atm. What do? All I can think of is making strawberries on pan collars.
>>
>>8812164
You can always do adorable rosettes with embroidered buttons at the center. I personally embroidered a ton of patches for my itabag, but that doesn't translate to many other fashions. Also small embroidered details to yarn dolls or felt figures

Oh naw its just the easiest thing. Knit a rectangle and hand sew it up but leave the one side open. For the bear ear curves I just increased my tension on the yarn while sewing it closed. Your round head takes care of the rest of the shape. I'm just happy I found a bunch of little bows on alligator clips for variety.

If anyone has any good scrap wool ideas I'd love to hear them. I have barrels of odd colours and not many ideas beyond blanket.
