Bump limit reached on old thread >>>8777658

Kitacon tickets went on sale today; the convention sold out in around 20 minutes including all VIP spots.

The rules list is pretty strict this time. Committee members have said that many of the rules have been set by the hotel. Your room will be cleaned daily, and any DND sign ignored after 11am. If you get too drunk they can escort you to your room and/or kick you out of the con. Real fur is banned, as is outside food. Nobody's clear if this is just in the entire hotel or if you can still eat in your room.

And finally, Kita owns all your pictures, asides from those taken in private rooms. Because nobody wants to see your shitty after dark CMV.
>>
>>8794842
Can I still have sex in the pool?

This is an outrage. I bet they don't even have decent toilets to do Coke!
>>
The fur ban is odd
>"Is that real fur?"
>"no, it's a good quality fake fur"
There, ban bypassed.
>>
>>8794842

About time the Hilton started giving a shit. Plus there are other events going on there this time as well as Kitacon, that should be interesting.
>>
>>8794966
It's a hotel rule apparently. Some committee are commenting on discussions and have said the hotel requested this but haven't specified if it's an allergy thing or an ethics thing. I'm interested in finding out.
So much of this has come about because Kita were adamant they weren't like the other cons with loads of rules. And now they have more stringent rules than any other con because they let people get away with so much. I feel quite bad for the committee if i am being honest, especially where there's been so many changes to the team. I feel quite positively about this year's con though.
>>
>>8795090
The Hilton's running other events this year, I wonder if one of them is an animal rights thing. That would explain it.
>>
>>8795652
Still doesn't make sense. Not a lot of costumes require huge amounts of fur for it to be an issue. Even so how is anyone passing going to know its real fur anyway.
>>
>>8795090
>>8795652
>>8795693
If it's an ethics it still doesn't make a huge amount of sense. Real fur is banned but leather and meat being served is fine?

And if it's an allergies thing it doesn't make a huge amount of sense either because allergies are due do animal proteins excreted by animals in their sweat, urine and saliva. Fur is treated and washed before it's worn which removes 99% the above.
>>
>>8795763
So can we presume this has come from someone on the committee who is against it being used? I wonder.
>>
>Display of any sign, symbol or clothing that is commonly associated with any organisation, party or political ideology likely to offend other guests is not permitted

Feminist symbols confined for banned
>>
>>8795808
I think it more likely means no Nazi armbands.

Or Vivian James cosplays. Need to keep the con a safe space. :^)
>>
>>8795059
>someone fell for this and tweeted it to @kitacon
ayyy
>>
I dont understand why people are getting so mad about some of the rules when a lot of them are just shit you should know not to do when staying at a hotel anyway. Not being able to remove the wristbands is pretty fucking stupid though.
>>
>>8796138
What, you should know not to be so brazen as to order pizza or wear fur when you're staying in a hotel? Piss off.
>>
>>8796312
No but you should know not to sit in the restaurant with your pizza or takeaway. Hotels don't care if you keep it on the DL but dont be that guy. Do you get this assmad about other venues asking to only consume food in their premises thats been bought on their premises?
>>
>>8796350
No, because I'm not paying them eighty quid a night to sleep there, you fucking shill.
>>
>>8796312
>Wanting to get animal fur in your pizza
>Shedding all over your bed
>>
>>8796359
Ah you're one of those entitled fucks.
It's a hotel, you pay them to allow you to stay on their premise and experience their hospitality. Not for them to lift and lay you like a spoilt bratty little shit.
Eat out or bring your food discretely to your room and don't be a prat. Would you stay at any other hotel outwith con season and act the same way? Sitting in the lobby with a Dominoes and swigging your Asda smart-price wine? Would you fuck.
>>
Can we get non-service animals banned from the con?

I twisted my ankle Kita before last because I got tripped up by some snowflake volunteer's rat dog.
>>
>>8797234
Forgot to post this - http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/10/20/pets-allowed
>>
>>8796621
Never did that in the first place, just like 80% of attendees, and yet we're all affected by this bullshit. Damn straight I order food if I'm staying in a hotel.
>>
The drinks last year were a ripoff too - Unsurprisingly. The cocktails outside the dance room where particularly terrible and expensive. No wonder people took hit flasks.
>>
>>8797421
End of the day, they can't stop people from drinking in the rooms/elsewhere if the hotel drinks are outrageous, so I really don't know why they're even trying to pull this shit.
>>
>Tournaments to include; Smash WiiU

Why do they choose this shit instead of Melee?
>>
>>8797429

Easier than carting CRTs and sourcing out of production equipment?
>>
>no respect for DND sign
>clean your room daily

I don't want my expensive burando and fragile cosplays being handled by the maids who might fuck them up, thanks

What the hell, Kita?
>>
>>8797521

desu lets see how this plays out. Maids on duty might not have not been told to ignore the sign.
>>
>>8797521
I'm really glad I decided to stop roomstuffing in 2016 after all the stress at MCM. This is gonna fuck a lot of people's plans up.
>>
>>8797527
Honestly I don't agree with roomstuffing in the first place. Maybe one extra person, or two at the absolute max, but if you're trying to cram a whole cosplay troupe into a single shitty hotel room, you deserve to be found out.

Don't be such a fucking cheapskate, if you can't afford conventions then budget, save up, and only go to those you actually have money for, like the rest of us do. Most people don't have a lot of money, we're just careful and know what we're doing.
>>
>>8797530
Yeah, I only had one or two extra people in the first place, but I don't even do that now. Places have gotten too vigilant.
>>
>>8794842
>Your room will be cleaned daily
Source on this? How will it affect things like room stuffing or people's costumes just lying around?
>>
Holy shit at this kitacon rooms shitstorm.

>kita says hotel discount codes will be emailed out 48 hours after registration payment
>meanwhile, people are ringing up the Hilton and booking rooms that way
>people start saying all the double/twin rooms have been booked over the phone
>Kita having to negotiate more rooms for the con allocation in the early hours of this morning

What a kerfuffle. Can these fuckwits do anything right?
>>
>>8797557
What would you have done differently?
My understanding is that the bottleneck is the hotel
>>
>>8797645
Well, don't let people book Kita-allocated rooms over the phone, for one.
>>
>>8797551
Code of conduct page
>The cleaning crew is required to check your room at least once a day. “Do Not Disturb” signs may therefore only be respected until 11:00 am.

Source on the fur though?
Seems like the food ban applies to the whole hotel, since you can't get deliveries.
>>
>>8797645
The people booking early are trying to secure rooms before kitacon has their deals out, it's going to create less space for congoers since there seems to be no concrete deal struck yet.

The hotel can easily say 'we've had 300 people book, therefore we can only give you 100 rooms, because we want 100 open to the genpop for other events' etc.
>>
>>8797665
>>
>>8797686
Yeah, it's the hotel being dicks, no doubt, but Kita needs to put their foot down on this shit. I know they're in a tricky position with all the shenanigans last year, but if the hotel's going to mess with the con this much, it's not worth it. I see a change of venue on the cards for next year.

>>8797683
Fur was also on the code of conduct page.
>>
At least three people have said on fb that they phoned up and said they were going to kita and the room got discounted for them.
>>
>>8797874
Yeah they've seriously fucked up. There are rooms still available friday and saturday, but nothing for sunday or thursday.
>>
That is the most insane clusterfuck I have ever experienced booking a hotel room.
>>
>>8797234
You post this every thread you can. Nobody cares. Complain to the hotel rather than here or tell the fucking owner that their dog is in the way. You have an issue with any service animals just because of one shitty incident.
Also your link is relevant only to the UK.
>>
Okay, gulls, never been to Kita before so I need some advice. I assume you can walk to the NEC from the hotel, that's what the hotel site/Kita site say, so I'm guessing nabbing Subway/Spoons in the evenings rather than forking out for hotel food can be done without too much hassle? Secondly, got rooms for Friday and Saturday night. Check-in's not until 3pm and check out is at 12pm. Is it too much of a stretch to walk to the NEC, dump stuff in their cloakrooms and trek back, or is it doable? Or do Kita provide some sort of cloakroom? Thirdly, is the ball worth going to, and will I want to get pissed there and therefore regret not having a room to slump in drunkenly afterwards as opposed to getting on a skanky Brum train home? I'm contemplating going Premier Inn at the airport for Sunday night and possibly Thursday night, and also thinking I should have just booked Thurs-Mon there in the first place.
>>
Did Kita ever accept submissions for official art? Because I wish they'd vary the artists.
>>
>>8797936
The Hilton will hold your suitcase for you before and after checkout. This is the same for most hotels in the UK.
The hotel has a shuttle bus that takes you to the train station, which is attached to the airport. There is a new shopping centre that has opened by the hotel too, and it's about a ten minute walk away. It has a lot of variety there too!
>>
>>8797936
You're fine to get to the NEC. It's really close. Ten minutes at a leisurely amble.

I phoned up and booked my room on the day. Provided they don't suddenly stab me with tax, it was £4 cheaper per night than Kita's listed price. I think maybe that money is part of what they pay to the hotel for reserving rooms, but it's just my speculation.

I love phoning to book. The staff are all American and super willing to please.

We've already planned to take extra clothing hangers and bags to put alcohol in. Everything we can get in a cupboard or drawer is going in one.
>>
>>8798095
Attached to the airport and the NEC, I meant to say.

>>8798047
I fucking wish. I can only assume it was the artists dying wish to be on a con badge but then they didn't die so Kita are stuck with her. The art is ugly, but mostly it's just odd. Dislocated joints everywhere. I guess it's disguised by the decent colouring. They're really precious about it, a gopher tried to get me kicked out last year when she overheard me discussing the mascots broken neck on one of the standees.
>>
>>8798105
That wasn't the gopher wearing the fancy chainmail collar by any chance, was it? Because good god she was a jobsworth.
>>
At least Alcon let you eat pizza wherever the fuck you want and drink cheap drink at the bar or from home
>>
>>8798104
I stayed Prem Inn last time and it was pretty decent. Prem Inns are always a safe bet and they are cheap.

Was a little lame having to walk back late at night as I was tired but last year and fairly weird seeing huge empty rooms left open and barren in the NEC.

>>
>>8794842
Are you sure this is rules for a UK con and not an American one?
They're very americunt descriptive.
>>
>>8796359
You're the sort of cunt that make hotels raise their prices at cons. If everyone respected the hotel, they wouldn't raise the prices so high especially at mcm. Do us all a favour and never go to another con
>>
>>8797530
This so much
>>
Yorkshire Cosplay Con - they have a comp but seem to be a bit lacking in cosplay events and panels. Was thinking of offering to run a panel or workshop but I vaguely remember there being some scuttlebutt about this event...?
>>
>>8799221
Holy shit calm your autistic ass down. There is nothing 'disrespectful' about ordering food when staying at a hotel.
>>
>>8799278
And to clarify- nobody's talking about ordering a pizza, taking it to the hotel's restaurant, and eating it in front of paying diners. We're talking about ordering food to your room, which is a pretty fucking standard thing to do when staying away somewhere. You sound like some kind of autistic tryhard gopher right now.
>>
Can we talk about LSCC again instead of Kita bollocks? Much more interesting than this shit. Don't like the con's rules? Don't attend simple
>>
>>8797923
Emotional support animals aren't service animals though. Service animals are specially trained by licensed organisations, I'm in a wheelchair and have a dog trained to help me with tasks.

I've seen emotional support animals attack people and other animals.
>>
>>8797403
Then order it in and bring it to your hotel.

In past years the concierge desk had a list of restaurants that did deliveries.

My first Kita I talked to a couple who were in a snit about the hotel, the hotel's crime? They were told they couldn't eat the pizza they ordered from outside in the hotel's bar.
'But another hotel we stayed in allowed it!'
>>
>>8797527
What happened at MCM?

>>8797551
I'm guessing the maids deduce how many people are in the room from the number of bags in the room or something
>>
>>8799400
Excel hotels really cracked down this year, threw people out for roomstuffing and stuff. We didn't get caught and only had two extra people anyway, but yeah, it was a little stressful to have reception interrogating everyone who walked into the lobby and stuff.
>>
>>8799281
Agreed with this. There's nothing wrong with ordering food and eating it in your room. You shouldn't in any situation, hotel or not, bring outside food to another restaurant. It's not polite to customers there trying to find a spot to sit and eat the food they've ordered at the hotel bar.
>>
>>8799422
Exactly. So the Hilton saying no outside food at all is way overboard. If they mean 'no outside food in public areas', that's fine, but try actually specifying that.
>>
>>8799221
People do generally respect the hotel - As much as one can respect a hotel that over charges for drinks, food and rooms. As anons keep pointing out, banning eating non-hotel food in the bar is justifiable. A blanket ban on all takeaways and special con guest rules like room checking is shit.

You really do sound like some autistic gopher as others have said. Someone must have put retard in your juice this morning kid.
>>
>>8799429
>Someone must have put retard in your juice this morning kid.

anon, can I have your permission to steal this, because I am crying
>>
>>8799424
Wow, Kita congoers must have really taken the piss last year in regards to eating outside food in public places, the hotel in general allows people to eat outside food in their rooms.
>>
>>8795047
Other events taking place at the same time as Kita can be interesting, didn't we have gatecrashers from the Tile Association event crashing Kita's one evening a couple of Kita's ago?

Auto Assembly (Kita isn't the only event I attend at the Hilton) had attendees from some religious event taking place in the NEC staying in the hotel at the same time. I don't remember much about them except that the ones I talked to seemed nice, some of them were well pissed.
Another year we had knitters staying in the hotel
>>
The Hilton taking money out of people's accounts when the website assures that no money will be taken until check-in will have fucked a lot of people over. But unless the Hilton can refund everyone, which I seriously doubt, there's probably fuck all that can be done. Situation's all gone completely tits-up.
>>
>>8799543
Oh boy, there must be a lot of impoverished weeb tears to be harvested on Twitter. Surely these chucklefucks should know not to book anything until you have the money aside to afford it.
>>
>>8799543
Is that people booking using the Kitacon code and online or phoning up?
>>
>>8799581
Well, I booked online with the code and didn't get charged, at least as of yet. No idea about what's happening with anything else. I'm vaguely annoyed if the money does suddenly pop out of my account, I can just about cover the charge if need be, but my roomies haven't got all the money, because we all agreed that as long as I was paid by the beginning of March that would be fine. If Kita hadn't said we wouldn't be charged, would have found different roomies.
>>
>>8799543
It's in the terms and conditions of the rate though that they'll take a deposit.

You're an idiot if you don't read terms and conditions before agreeing to things.

Hotel is within their rights to do it. It's already a non-refundable booking.

Which is why I decided to not go this year. Kitacon is expensive as fuck and I'm surprised the Hilton didn't do this sooner with bookings as majority of hotels in their price range take money at the time it's done.

I don't know why people keep complaining about food/drink prices, staff being strict, etc. It's the same as you'd expect to find in every high-end hotel. If you expect Travelodge or Holiday Inn Express prices, you're delusional.

Or maybe that's fine, as we'll all probably end up in one of those with the current state of affairs.
>>
This just in from Kita:
"Hi All, First and foremost- thank you to everyone who have been waiting patiently for further news on being able to book rooms at the Hilton Hotel.
At this moment in time we have an unknown quantity of single occupancy rooms available on the Friday and Saturday nights. Unfortunately, Kitacon are unable to guarantee a room alongside a ticket to the event. All room allocations (that is room sizes, dates of availability etc) are decided by the venue and not by us. The venue are doing everything they can to open up as wide a range of rooms as possible. Even to this moment, that discussion is going on. However, due to other events being held on the same weekend and other restrictions, availability is subject to what is available at the hotel. Due to this restriction, it is unlikely that we will be able to offer Thursday rooms in future allocations but both Kitacon and the venue will try our best.
Every time that we get given information regarding new rooms being allocated, you are the first to know. Our committee are working around the clock to put up social media messages so that you are kept informed throughout the whole process.
This year, we are also aware that there has been some confusion regarding the final pay system when booking rooms. At the moment what we know is that the venue are charging attendees the first night of stay as a deposit (to secure the room) with the rest being taken out upon checking- in at the venue. As this is the first year this has happened, we are talking to the hotel to see what can be done. It is always recommended to pay a deposit if possible, as it ensures you a place to stay but we understand that this is not always feasible due to a range of financial reasons. Again, as soon as we know anything, we will contact you first."
>>
>>8801088
Yeah it's always seemed pretty obvious to me. The Hilton is a chain- Just because this one isn't in the fanciest of locations and is hosting a Weeb Weekend it doesn't mean they can go against whatever guidlines, prices and rules are set by the company

>>
>>8801066

>>
>>8801088
As someone who's new to the cosplay/convention scene, it seems odd to pick a Hilton for a convention. Bit too posh. But they did, and it's worked in the past, so it's to be expected, and staying at a Hilton is going to be expensive.
>>
>>8801204
It worked in the past but it doesn't seem to be working out anymore.
>>
>>8797551
It's a lie. The rooms are hardly cleaned at all, let alone every day - last year on check in I found lipstick marks on the plastic cups in the bathroom. They'd just been shoved into plastic bags to make them look fresh.

>>
>>8802779
I just called up, apparently there's singles available for the 31st and the 4th but not in between. Obviously that's helpful as shit, but I checked online afterwards and nothing came up. There's still standard twins/doubles available though so the hilton clearly have more rooms available they're just being dickheads about it.

I'd be interested to see how many rooms actually got booked with the code, and how many before/after it actually got released because I was online perhaps 5/10 minutes after the email went out (and before kita announced it was out) and I didn't see any available.
>>
>>8802795
I was online 3 minutes after the codes went out, and twin rooms for Sunday and Thursday were already gone.

Premier Inns are actually really decent. They actually have a really strict standard and try and mimic almost exactly the rooms at every one so they're the same.

Travel Lodges and Holiday Inns are much more hit and miss though.

And the Hilton is fairly high end. Depends which Hilton mind but some really are high end. The one in Birmingham NEC is mediocre but it's expensive for what it is.
>>
>>8802894
There was no announcement. I was checking every half hour or so not really expecting it to work. I didn't realise what I was looking at at first. No idea wtf is happening desu.
>>
LAGC announced Nicole Marie Jean as a guest!
>>
Why do so many idiots have a hard on for trying to stay at the Hilton when there's so many other options nearby that are cheaper than the cons discounted rates.
>>
>>8801889
You made my day with this anon.
>>
>>8802973
I'm fat and lazy. There's an Ibis nearby though if anyone's going to stay in there?
>>
>>8802973
I stayed in the Ibis right opposite the airport and I don't recommend staying off-site at all. The NEC closes before the party finishes, took us over an hour to walk back as everywhere was closed off.
>>
>>8802973
Where are you staying?
>>
>>8803019
The Etap

>>8803008
Just take a taxi next time, most i've ever had to spend to get from the Hilton to the Hotel Airports is £6. which is nothing if you go with a few friends
>>
>>8802939
Aaah that's annoying because that's what I've been doing around work as well. Congrats on your luck, have you got a lottery ticket yet?

>>8802973
Because the one advantage of a hotel con over uni campus cons is that everything is in one place. I've stayed in another hotel before and it wasn't half as fun.
>>
>>8802973
Have you stayed offsite before? Have fun getting a taxi every time you want to quickly fetch something from your room.
>>
This is my first time at Kita too but I have stayed locally for Birmingham Comic Con so don't mind staying offsite. I have heard Kita is very different from the Comic Cons. What can I expect that's different? What events or panels are a must or should be avoided?
>>
>>8803062
Not being a complete fucking idiot I bring everything I need with me during the day (anything too bulky I just leave in the hotel cloak room). Besides I only need to use the Taxi for the late nights, NEC is open during the day so every other hotel is an easy walk.
>>
This guy is back and entering the LSCC championship.
>>
>>8803060
I didn't think I'd push it with the lottery haha. But I think the hotel took the full payment not just one night deposit. Not a big deal for me personally but I hear a lot of people are having similar trouble.

Really hope kita moves next year.
>>
>>8803078
Kitacon and Amecon aren't just a glorified dealers rooms and actually have adults chilling and drinking throughout the day. It's a lot more relaxed.

Panel wise - It depends on the time table. Even shitty panels can worth going to if nothing is on.
>>
>>8803149
Check your bank statement. It said that in the small print on my email, but they only actually took one night's deposit.
>>
>>8803062
Stay at the Prem Inn senpai. It's cheap and you can walk it in 15min. Nothing closes that will add to the trip either. And you can still get a taxi if you really need one and it'll work out less than staying at the Hilton.
>>
>>8803164
I'm tempted to get a Prem Inn room for Sunday because my room mate just dropped out so I'm actually very relieved I didn't get a Sunday Hilton room. Just so I can get pissed at the ball and not have to care about travel.

>Hilton would be £600 for the weekend

>>
>>8803295
Novotel by the airport is cheap. It's a walk and a taxi ride but you're right by a lot of food options and you can pick up a meal deal from boots on the way in as a packed lunch.

If you don't need to go back the room lots you can easily sleep 3-4 to a room and drive the price right down.
>>
>>8803319
Fair enough, might do that.
>>
>>8803295
Premier inn still seems fine to me? Their booking system is a bit odd, so it can look like there's nothing there if you haven't unchecked 'show best prices'.
>>

Well at least he can safely say he made 90% of it himself

>There's still standard twins/doubles available though so the hilton clearly have more rooms available they're just being dickheads about it.

Would definitely be interested on seeing how many rooms we were actually allocated now. Has anyone actually got/heard of anyone who managed to book a twin from the code when it was released?
>>

Yeah, these idiots have no clue. Thought I'd check their dealer table rates, I've never seen a con offer rates for single days of trading for part of a con. This has disaster written all over it.
>>
>>8807316
Wow. The original poster was in their right to comment publicly as usually that is the only way to get any decent response from the organisers. It just makes them more suspicious if they can't respond in a professional manner.

I personally always ask questions and give feedback publicly so that other people may agree or disagree with what I have to say, then the organisers will know which comments were more important to the guests than others.
>>
>>8807259
I have a bit of knowledge on actors for con. 12k for someone who was in 2 films and was just a classmate with about 3 lines I remember.
A startup con that can't even afford a venue near a city center isn't going to be able to drop that on one shitty actor and never even consider a decent actor.

Legit-Con 2016
>>
There will still be a bunch of idiots who will pay money to go to this, however incompetently it's organised.
>>
>>8802948
Is LAGC worth going to? I went a few years ago and it was small and kinda unimpressive but I liked the atmosphere of it being a smaller event. Is it still at the place with the bar inside?
>>
>>8807632
OP of that comment here.
They actually deleted that long response to me within I think less than ten minutes of it being up. They then put the 3rd comment and within ten minutes of that they deleted my entire comment.
They then replaced that with a sort of FAQ post making it out that I had done something horrible to them which is now deleted because people started to ask questions that they didn't like. Very unprofessional, its just a case of waiting until WB shut them down because they have absolutely no understanding of copyright law.
I also hope that no stallholders have purchased pitches yet because looking at their website, when the event is inevitability shut down they will not be entitled to a percentage of their money back.

The company itself is company that was made at the end of last year which they themselves have claimed. It is run by a husband and wife duo who currently have a 6 week old baby. They have no experience with any convention like event, only party events and even those are limited. They are actually considering "lookalikes". They are waiting on actors to contact them and so far only have unnamed or tiny part unspeaking role actors. They are not contacting actors through their agents like any legit company with any real experience would do, instead they are vaguely mentioning the con and tweeting it to key actors, again, very unprofessional. The convention is also being held in a sports centre. Also selfie space*
>>
>>8808265
its still shit still in the same place only go if your a weeb who dosnt know any better
>>
>>8808291

This is both hilarious and deeply embarrassing
>>
>>8808291
Additional hilarity value point - they were advertising themselves as a 'Harry Potter' convention on the basis that it would be small and therefore WB wouldn't notice. They then had to hurriedly change all the wording everywhere when it blew up. They also had to be told that they aren't the first HP con.

The sad thing is that people will go and they will make a bunch of money off this event when it's evidently going to be carried along by the attendees and vendors rather than by any competence on their part. Seen some beautiful handmade wands and the like that people want to sell there, people will go for that.
>>
>>8808333
to begin with they were advertising themselves s the first harry potter convention in the uk which is also incorrect.

" I can assure you it is perfectly legit. This event page has been up for 12 hours and just because it doesn't have any guest announcements yet does not mean it is not legit Martin :) "

Changes to the rules this year, each country only gets one representative. I was of the understanding that the UK selection event would be at Manchester MCM (in July, not August, my mistake) since the May one was being given over to WCS. It's the same weekend as Amecon though, which is annoying.

>>
Saw an email sent to showmasters crew being shared by a few people on fb. Apparently showmasters have told their volunteer crew that if they volunteer at a particular rival con then they're banned from showmasters. This seems incredibly professional...

"EM-CON update...
As you all know we've never stopped our regular crew volunteering for other events, we understand we don't own you, it's your decision. There are some we see as direct competitors and we ask our senior crew to not crew for them.
But in this case the owner of EM-CON has become outwardly hostile toward Jason and Showmasters, so we've had to come to the unfortunate decision that we no longer wish to help EM-CON in anyway and this includes them using our trained crew.
To explain a bit more:
In the summer the owner of EM-CON went to our guest hotel to try and speak to our guests. He did this when he knew we'd be at our event setting it up. He didn't ask, he just turned up. When Jason spoke to him about it Lee was extremely rude to Jason.
Also I know that they say that imitation is the highest form of flattery but when a company blatantly steal our crew handbook (changes it a bit) and then passes it off as their own with no credit at all to the author. That's crossing a line.
So please be aware and let other crew know. You will now need to make a choice, crew EM-CON or Showmasters.
This includes our events coming up in Feb and March, if you intend to crew EM-CON let us know and we'll remove you from those crew lists.
We understand that some crew may not see this; they will get one warning by email if we hear they have crewed at EM-CON.
If you wish to discuss this with me, email me at [email protected], but be aware this decision is final. It's one or the other no exceptions."
>>
>>8811541
>>8811521

Yep so good at answering emails, painting a bit, and prosecuting her fake dad on tv...such an inspiration...wow...can you not..
>>
>>8811401
Not defending her but not everyone is credited on a film. There are thousands of people on pre and post production that don't get a mention often as they're part of a company so only the company name gets credit
She might have visited the make up trailer on set one day and is just making a claim
>>
>>8812515
Right but what we're saying is that there is no way she WORKED on the film.

Yes the company thing is right, but makeup artists are freelance so
>>
>>8812559
Not all freelancers get a credit if it's a huge big production or if they were in pre production.
I agree, doubt she worked on it but saying no IMDb credit isn't a way to prove it out right in general terms
>>
>>8811101

'Legendary' ... that word gets thrown around a lot these days. I bet that release was drafted by Tabitha and she was sat playing with her boobs, muttering 'Hmmm, what's another word for "good" that I can use?' I guess this is the next step in Tabs' quest to become a legit celebrity/movie star. If she ever gets offered a significant movie role, watch her kick this cosplay lark to the curb, along with all the people who've helped her along the way.

I noticed she's at least removed the fucking ridiculous milestones from her Patreon, where she was going for £5K per month or something to make a Terminator costume.

What will Tabitha do in the real world when she doesn't hit it big, gets older, outgrows cosplay.... She's going to be stuck painting props for her step Dad in a shed because who would realistically employ her at that stage in life.
>>
>>8812713
She sure doesn't seem fussed about the Sci-Fi Weekender thing - hasn't mentioned it on social media herself yet. Maybe her dad had a word and asked her to dial back on the self-promotion and do some bloody work.

Poor Tabs has had a rough few months though ... it seems there's been a real backlash against her for the first time to the extent that she's been whining about it on Twitter and saying that she's unfollowed quite a few people. She said she won't criticise people publicly, she'll just ignore them. Makes me wonder how many people have been getting stuck into her for different reasons.

>>
>>8812939
Too soon man. Too soon.
>>
>>8812727
Could be she's decided to take a step back from the promotion ... she's taken a lot of shit over the past few months, not all of which she's deserved IMO. Don't think she's malicious, she's just trying to make some money off her army of marks but she's not smart enough to figure out how to really make Patreon work for her. The problem is that not all feedback can be positive and she genuinely doesn't seem to be able to handle negative criticism. Other cosplayers roll with it but Tabitha genuinely seems to get upset. One of her mates told me she suffers from depression and she's massively insecure, dunno how true that is.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION
It's with great pleasure that we can now confirm and announce the amazing venue that will host The World of Wizardry event in Nottingham on August 6th and 7th 2016.
Firstly, we take full responsibility for the misunderstanding with the Olympia and would like to apologise to them for that, we just couldn't contain our excitement and we released venue details before it was 100% confirmed with the Olympia.
Even after these issues the Olympia still wanted to work with our team however, after seeing the interest in this event both Daydream Events and the Chilwell Olympia decided that logistically it may not be the right venue for the event. We look forward to working with the Olympia on other events in the near future though.
We have now confirmed an absolutely awesome venue- the Nottingham Conference Centre! It's beautiful, spacious and perfect in every way for this event.
We would like to say that the support and advice from people on the page has been overwhelming, and we would especially like to thank Francesca and the team at the Conference Centre for going above and beyond to make this event possible.
Tickets have been slightly amended on the website but prices do remain the same and will still be available from 4pm today. Please check out all ticket prices and what is included before purchasing. Additional packages for example; photo op's, panels and coffee with the stars will be announced at a later date.
And yes for those of you with a sharp eye, you may have noticed that this event is now called 'The World of Wizardry' :">. Same event, different name.
Keep checking back for further updates.

Sooo the event has over 3000 tickets on sale when the venue capacity is 670. Also only one of the special guests even has an imdb page ha. They're all extras. PLUS the Fantastic Beast's ones will have signed NDAs so not too sure what Daydream Events expects those actors to say on a panel. This is looking to be worse than Dashcon.

While typing this one of the actor guests has commented in the event. Will come back with caps

I'm so hyped for Dashcon UK

The amount of unprofessionalism is unreal, they and their friends keep chipping in with how "they're just local people!" and "it's only supposed to be a small event" and yet they've put their ticket numbers to 3000 people

If you're running an event of that scale then people expect you to actually be competent, it's not as if its some charity raffle event held at the working men's club. It's such a shitshow it's amazing

Hildaglitz is doing Princess Fiona, which I have a feeling Bex will get all sulky about, she kicked up a fuss when the official Dreamworks woman wasn't "up to her standards" so she'll probably throw a tantrum over this too,
>>
>>8815635
throw a tantrum and act like how whole world is awful. Say she's depressed and feels sad like no one else feels like that ever. She's the first person and only person to every get sad and we should all make huge efforts to help her. And buy another rabbit.
>>
>>8815945
I think it's a bit creepy she named her second rabbit Kiko too. Fair enough getting another but it's a straight-up replacement and it's weird.

Pic related is Hildaglitz' Fiona, I think it'll look pretty good but I doubt it'll win anything. I think she's doing the musical version.

has obviously wonky lions. Wonky lions with parallel mains rather than branching ones. The beads used for the body are too big as is the embroidery thread leading to a confused shape that makes both look like Jamaican koalas.

Cording has been used (not to mention in the wrong colour) where it looks like it should have been beading or overlapping metal loops. I'm wiling to let that go as I might be wrong, it's hard to tell from the reference.

Round beads have been used on the border rather than smaller faceted ones.

There is stitching around the central line head where there should be metal links.

The red beads of the central design are much too big compared to the original and it looks like someone squashed a tomato under the head. The nose of the lion has no shape, in fact it is a completely different shape and appears to have lost the underside of it's jaw, as well as gained a new love for mascara. The beaded dreadlocks return with beads that are too big and lose the delicate lines that round the face of the lion. Instead cosplayer's attempt loos boxy.

Crown looks completely different and spills out of the red boarder unlie the reference.

Use of floral beads rather than design stitched under a beaded boarder.

Shape above the lions head is lost.

Tails of the side lions have been done in beads that do not match their body unlike the reference and so the fact that they're tails at all is lost.

I repeat. It looks nothing like the reference.

Salt, Salt everywhere. I'd like to see you do better. DESU. A lot of your complaints are based on the sourcing the wrong beads but the GOT beads are notoriously hard to find and these are not bad replacements at all. I've seen much worse. The cording is right, find a better reference to compare to.
>>
>>8816478

>>
If you are competing against her are you gonna take the time to explain to the judges about all the wrong beads that she used? No. Go spend your time in a more sensible manner than that which you have been. This also applies if you're just some butt hurt random who doesn't know gorgeous when they see it.

It is their job as judges to compare against provided references. They may reach the same conclusion. Whether they do or not doesn't make it look anymore like the reference.

So whilst you're all disliking that I have an opinion I can demonstrate...none of you have disagreed with it.

Congrats.

Should have asked this in the lolita general, but

London is pretty great but same issues as a lot of other major cities (e.g. NY) with most events organised among friends to avoid creepers. Leeds is probably the biggest and most active outside London, really friendly girls and nice comm. Sheffield is small but active, nice girls again. Manchester/Liverpool are getting more active after suffering from drama a year and a half ago, core of regulars that are well dressed but also more underage and ita girls than Yorkshire have to deal with. York is a beautiful city but tiny comm, Hull is also small and pretty inactive, Newcastle has drama because of a bad mod, Midlands (like Birmingham) are active. I know very little about the southern comms outside of London other than that they exist.

You said England but wasn't sure if you meant Britain. In Wales Cardiff has a comm but North Wales have nothing unless you travel to Liverpool/Chester. No fucking idea about Northern Ireland. Scotland has drama a while back and split into two comms, both officially for Scotland as a whole but in practice one meeting mostly in Edinburgh and one meeting mostly in Glasgow. There are some nice girls in Scotland, but I advise you to listen carefully to both sides of the story rather than believing everything you hear (or see on cgl) from one side alone. The highlands also have a small community, and there's some bearded crossdressing lunatic that started a community in Shetland who seems enthusiastic but I can't help thinking might be giving others the wrong idea about the fashion. No idea what Northern Ireland is like, but they have a comm.

Think about transport links to major cities wherever you end up. As a visitor to the UK in general, London, Bath, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, York, Glasgow and Edinburgh are all great cities to live, regardless of comms.

I don't think it'll win. It might place. I think it'll more depend on the wing quality as that's what'll stand out, as opposed to trying to put extra techniques and details into what is a fairly simple to construct costume.

A bit like the Asterix cosplayer last year. Really unique approach. Not enough though.
>>
>>8818312
Problem with the asterix last year is that yes it was unique, but thats because it was an original design, thus broke the rules. The Disney fairy designs are quote simple so it might be difficult for her to make it more complicated without breaking the rules
>>
Lscc only has 3 prizes. Not like other cons that do the whole lot of 'best sewing' 'best armour' 'judges award 1, 2, ,3 ,4, 5' or 'best girl/boy' so being in the top 10 is sort of like getting one of those awards even if you don't win.

Yeah, even Limited Edition Fawn, the doll's clothes are really simple, the artwork is really vague. And I'm not sure what the consensus is on crossing the movie's detail with the trail from the doll. I don't know if that counts as original design or just mixing elements (which I think you're encouraged not to do anyway?).

>>8818327
Sticking to one or the other would be fine. Dolls are official so they're an acceptable cosplay. The actual detail on the doll is pretty nice too.
The art is art of the doll so I guess it counts as the same reference as it comes on the back of the box.
>>
>>8818327
Yeah you can't mix designs. You have to do one single version of something. It's for judging and referencing sake
>>
>>8818338
>>8818352
I was referring more to the idea of taking the details from the Neverbeast film. And combining with the trail from the doll.

Because the doll is basically the cosplay in miniature, to add details or do things in a more 'detailed' way surely counts as original design/artistic interpretation at that point?

Or am I not making sense?
>>
>>8818391
You're making sense but she's working of doll/doll art so there isn't a problem.
The art has details either way. The only thing that wouldn't work being scaled up are the gems on the top. I would just add smaller ones too to make it less blocky when full scale.
>>
>>8818391
The doll has a lot more little details anyway but I see what you mean. If they corset the dress, do decent wings, make the skirt look like feathers and so on Then It's about the same difficulty as the other stuff floating around. She might place if she's lucky.
>>
>>8818401
Yeah but it's not really meant to be a corset (especially since Fawn is an animal fairy that values comfort, be different for Rosetta), so that's adding technique for the sake of it. Interested whether she'll do the doll's wings (if I remember rightly they've got the same pattern as Tink) or the artwork wings (which are unclear).

Vested interest in this costume because I'd like to do this Fawn myself and had these debates with myself.
>>
>>8818406
Aren't the doll wings a hideous bright orange too?

Intresting point on the corset though, But most fairies corset for the wings.

Suppose it depends what she's uses as her reference too, if she's goes for art work or doll.
>>
>>8818423
Yeah they are bright orange, this is another reason why I mentioned the film because all the fairies have unique wing patterns (after the first film) and so 'Fawn's' wings can only be truly referenced from the film, which is a cross over of references even if one is a basis for the other.
>>
>>8818438
It be intresting to see what they do. if they use the artwork there's little to no detail on the wings but the doll is completely wrong to the artwork so they can't pull the detail from the doll.
>>
>>8817717
Yeah London is pretty exclusive to friends. There is no bad mod drama in Newcastle, that's just a personal vendetta from some salty bullies a while back. Don't even bother applying for the smaller Scotland comm, even if you know some of them they'll reject you from the group. It's just a friends clique now. Newcastle is actually a pretty great comm, no drama at all. As a major city it's also a great place to relocate to, and the north is generally friendlier than the south.
