I don't really know why she'd think that, larme is popular right now and that's most of the modelling Risa is doing atm but it's not a very "dolly"fashion in the traditional sense of the word. It lacks a classic element and exists purely as a mishmash of trends.
If they were looking for larme I don't think they would've included the part about including "dark looks" too, but then again I'm really only speaking from my own perspective as a contest organizer and I realize that not everyone is going to be as unbiased as I am when I give a broad theme like this.

Basically, this means you need to wear clothes that fit, acknowledge trends and popular opinions within your specific community, and be creative with your outfits in small doses (which is primarily where Beckii failed here, her styling isn't really reminiscent of any defined substyle and isn't cohesive by normalfag standards either).

It makes sense though, if you work hard and your end result looks like shit then the amount of work put it really doesn't matter from an outsider's perspective.That's not to say that people can't or won't appreciate if you open up and talk about your journey and your struggles, but so many people try to use "but I worked so hard/spent so much time/put so much effort into this!!" as an excuse or a cop-out when they receive criticism and frankly it's exhausting. It's just much easier to consume creative media if you concentrate on the final product, focusing on what went on behind the scenes takes a level of dedication that some people just won't have for whatever reason. In fashion, if you post an outfit and then go on a ten page rant about how hard it was for you to lose the weight, clear up your skin, and then work to purchase everything you're wearing, people are going to be turned off because you're asking them to invest much more emotion or empathy in that moment than they're willing to give (especially in a fashion like lolita that is so deeply rooted in escapism). Then again, that sort of thing might be inspiring to a lot of people too...you've just got to know your audience and take steps to prepare them if that's not the kind of thing you normally post.
