I feel like there was a huge drop in the amount of homestuck at cons. Otakon Saturday still had a good amount of cosplayers, but Friday was just pathetic. Maybe the game will give us a second wind, but the current hiatus fells like the nail in the coffin.

And with that I'll just throw it out there that (if there's still interest for it, of course) I'll make my year end review in a week or two, and that if anyone have any new (or old) names they want me to take a look at, I'd like to know about them!

It doesn't help that a lot of people who've been cosplaying HS for a while have gone through so many of the outfits. I'd like to do a new costume this year but don't have any ideas besides AU hell.

aradiasprite has always been my dream hs cosplay for some reason, and it's so weird for me to think i finally finished it and am wearing it to katsu. i also had aradiabot and disciple on my list, and was doing john bingo once upon a time, but i have a feeling aradiasprite is gonna be my last homestuck cosplay, which is weird to think about since i've done SO many cosplays from it and it's what got me into cosplay in the first place. i just feel like most of the outfits are so simple, which was great when i was first starting out, but i'm really wanting to challenge myself more in terms of sewing lately and homestuck doesn't lend itself very well to that.

Not to add to the disquiet about the game then, but it certainly appears that a number of higher ups who would seem to be important to the development process have left What Pumpkin.

A quick google of "LinkedIn" and "What Pumpkin" and you can see people who now list their employment history as "previous" include the Senior Art Director, the Creative Director, Director of Software Engineering among others...

Hopefully they're moving on because their roles are finished and not the game is going through another ridiculous phase of development hell.

Might be a dumb question but I'll ask anyway

I've got some grey Ben Nye that I haven't used in... a year and a half. Same with Snazzaroo. Does this stuff expire? I bought it a long time ago thinking I'd cosplay a troll but I never ended up using it. But I didn't see the need to throw it away either, so it's sort of just there. If it expires though I'll just throw it out. I also still don't see myself cosplaying a troll but my mind could always be changed, plus I might still be able to use it for another cosplay.

Waterbased paints don't expire. Greasebased have a technical expiration date, and are also more prone to cultivating bacteria. I don't think it's much of an issue, though. As long as it smell and look alright and isn't like a decade old.

Would spraying it down with rubbing alcohol help? I do that on my open-container regular makeup but I don't know if it really does much, since it's just on the surface. (you could mix it in I guess. I don't know.)

Personally I'm still sad we never got to see Dei-sandvich do Aradiasprite. Or do an interpretation of Grimdark Rose... That could have been pretty kickass.

If I had to pick one last cosplay from Yaexrae, I'd love to see her as Porrim, I think? I'm not sure if she's done it, but regular or dreamer porrim would be lovely to see her in. I feel as if we don't have enough good Porrim dresses. I know Most Flogged is usually on the shitlist, but she's still a really kickass seamstress, and I honestly love her fancy dreamer Roxy. Seeing her take on some of the more out there fantasystuck designs would have been really cool.

IDK, it's not amazing, but at least it's not ridiculously way over the top with fancy make up, petal fins and non-canon, unneccessary detailing like so many others. It's also nice to see someone give Feferi a bit of a forehead, but that's just personal taste.

Also, for what it's worth, I do think she pulls off the "teenager fish alien" -look pretty well, even if a different pair of glasses would've looked much better.

Check drag queen tutorials for that. But even then it's not always easy to cover.

And yeah, they're all alright, that doesn't mean the fit isn't awkward or the styling underwhelming, especially when CBC placed second in Iron Wig. Of course, they're not responsible for the other wigs, but with that in mind the Dirk wig is pretty disappointing.

With that said, it's still a neat group and photoshoot. The PJs look pretty sweet too.

I agree, kinda. Like, the bad stuff is still there, but there's a lot more of the stuff on the scale of decent-good, even though the GREAT cosplays are still relatively rare.

it's always so funny for me seeing pearl on here because she's actually a good friend of mine. in her defense of low photoshoot output, last year was her final year of college so she was crazy busy with all her final projects and got a job almost right away so now she's crazy busy with that. she was supposed to come to a con with me over the summer, actually, but had to bag it due to the job.

Hence why a Hall of Fame list is actually a good idea. It can be used to show off great HS cosplayers of the past too like Cifera.

What would determine who would go on there though? Like CBC will most likely still remain on the list because they still do HS cosplays but I'm guessing you'd have to find a point in say, a cosplayer's tag or page where they just stopped doing HS cosplays.

Shit tier was never about quality, it was about personality. But quality also played into it. I didn't go through the shit tier because I had enough work as was and the qualifiers for shit tier were different.
