Alphy snout anon from the last thread. This is what I got so far.

I want to cosplay Undyne so bad but I still don't know which would look better: shaving my head or using a bald cap.
Shaving isn't a problem but how would you attach a huge pile of wig hairs to it? To leave a bit of my own and just attach red wefts? And that ponytail should have A LOT of hair in it not just a few ones so I wonder if it's possible? Would a bald cap do a better job at keeping a huge bunch of hair in place? I have never done bald cosplay or bald cap cosplay so I have no idea which ones the best option.

Gonna be honest. Looking at these they're pretty similar in concept, just switch the wig or the outfit.
Not a bad thing of course, but keeping Napstablook's personality in mind, I don't think a girly bot design works for him. He seems like the type who doesn't really care about a body or not. Not that I can really think of what sort of body he'd have.
Unless Alphys is a lazy daisy and reuses EX's design, then that makes sense of course.

So I was thinking something over and I could use some advice. Since Mettaton Ex appears to be the cosplay that'll be overdone the most, and I'm afraid I'll end up like the rest of the people with bad make-up over here. >>8713795

So would it be a good or bad idea to go with box Mettaton instead (of course with the legs)? I was thinking it could be a bit better and less overdone, and maybe easier to do with a cardboard box. However, my concern with this one is trying not to make it big so it isn't obtrusive at a crowded con. And I don't want it to cut off my peripheral vision. What do you guys think?

I've been wanting to cosplay Alphys, but I'm not really sure where to start? I have the labcoat picked out and the glasses. I'm not sure what to do for the wig though. My friend thinks maybe a long wig with the bangs pulled back with a clip or headband and styled to look choppy and messy and unkept? I like that idea, but I might go with a short wig instead.

And I'm obviously going for a human look, but I really want to make a tail haha. Could I get away with it if I added other small monster touches? Like claws and slight scale makeup, things like that?

My Napstablook cosplay is almost done. I don't have the skills or the energy to make it, so I commissioned it.

I'm struggling with an Alphys cosplay too. I'm planning on going the foam/mascot head route. But I'm bewildered by fabric choices.

I'm hoping to keep the kind if simple, cartoonish look. So thought of doing the lower jaw and neck a lighter colour to reduce seams. But I can't think what fabric would give the best look, and if I should just accept she'll have some seams on her face.

Just in case anyone was thinking of using Mehron's metallic silver cream base for Mettaton... DON'T. I tried it, and even with powdering it's extremely dark, creases, and settles into pores really fast. It's a good idea in theory, but I'm ditching the metallic cream and going with plain grey.

seconding this. My first makeup test I did for Mettaton, I used a silver mehron cremestick, and shit. even with contouring and highlighting, the reflectivity of the paint just washes out everything. Considering doing another test where I leave the face white but do the 'vents' in the silver, but this stuff is just a fast track to looking like Homestuck Zoolander.

Anon, that is looking awesmome! I love your interpretation of her head shape thus far. I'm doing an Alphys fursuit/mascot styled head too and I've had a hard time figuring out how to translate her pointy sprite into a 3D shape.

I ended up tweaking the shape of the snout ever so slightly. Still finishing the foam carve now


(On another note, the other Anon with the alphys snout prosthetic;- can't wait to see! That's a fun take on her!)

the prosthetic looks a bit likey a ducky now haha. But I want to add a line from the corners over the cheeks to make that lizard/Dino horn shield impression.
Combined with scaly makeup.

I was thinking of going as Sans to Sacanime winter. I don't have much experience with mask making. I have seen people suggesting papier mache, but my only experience with it is making stuff in elementary school. Can you use papier mache to make smooth masks or is it all lumpy? Also, can you use it on a wire frame? I see a lot of people using Halloween pumpkins, but the shape of that is always way off. What other materials might work well?

The unfortunate thing is that Undertale's headed down the same path. I've seen a lot of people watch an LP of it and go from there. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but a lot of people aren't aware that you have to sit through the game at least twice to fully get the plot (once for Pacifist, once for Genocide, Neutral is optional but tends to happen the most often).
Otherwise you end up with people who think Frisk is in the opening.

I'm putting together a Mettaton cosplay (overdone perhaps but I really really like him) and I can't decide whether to do OTT eye makeup like most people seem to do or go for a more masculine, subtle look while keeping the (apparently?) heavy eyeshadow.
What do you guys think would be better? I like more feminine looks for MTT but also think he could look great when done with a more handsome look in mind, and I don't see too many people do that.

Honestly the game can be a bit tough at times, especially during the Undyne the Undying/sans battle in the Genocide run (not to mention the Genocide run is so grindy. At times it feels like a bit of a chore).

I was going to complain that people are going nuts over this game but a huge percent hasn't even played it (how can you say you're a huge fan without playing it?!) but that seems to be the way with a lot of games nowadays, people will just watch lets plays and in all honesty it's depressing. Well with COD and league it's a different story because people watch those players for the competitive aspect, not necessarily the game. Undertale has a story and is a pretty detailed game so you won't get the same experience of losing/winning or feeling accomplished as you would by watching someone else play.

I definitely think it's higher than most. The amount of people drawing sans extremely OoC (which I would say is the majority) is staggering. I actually struggle to see accurate portrayals in fan art of this character in particular. You'll always have people making characters OoC to make them, idk, hotter or something but it really is the majority of fanartists that do it. It's very strange. It just feels like they saw other people draw him this way and they ran with it instead of playing it themselves. Not to mention a lot of people joining the fandom are not really gamers. Which isn't a bad thing but as I pointed out the difficulty can get intense (especially on the genocide run). There wasn't always people who didn't play games, though. It used to be that you had to play the game to see what happens, it was the reward. It's kind of depressing and again I absolutely cannot claiming to love something but never play it yourself. If you loved it you'd want to play it.
TF2 is not really comparable because it doesn't really have a story. It has shallow characters, so as much as I feel it's weird to not play the game it's not very necessary to learn about them because these characters don't have much depth and people invent their own headcanons since there's not a lot to work with. Probably why it's so popular.

Yeah, I did a neutral (aka the 'I had no idea my actions would affect THIS MUCH' run) and a true pacifist run and I'm never going to be able to play it any other way. I got too attatched to the characters, killing them would destroy me inside. My brother did a blind playthrough and killed Toriel because he thought he had to, and ended up crying about it later because of something Sans said to him.

Ordinary I'm not against people watching playthroughs, but a component of the game is being held accountable for your actions/being responsible for your decisions and watching them play out in a pretty realistic way. When you watch a playthrough, even if you're invested in the game, you're witnessing someone else's choices.

This is my explanation, since I watch Lets Plays. The last few years, I have been very busy with work, and when I come home, I take commisions and try to keep up with my social life, so that eats up all of my free time. I simply don't have the time to play any games anymore.
So I've turned to watching Lets Plays as I work on commisions. It's about the same as watching a movie to me, and I enjoy certain channels and the commentary.
I really would like to play Undertale, but I currently don't have the time, maybe in a few months when I use some vacation days I will. It's definitely not the same as playing a game on your own, but you still get to experience it in the way you experience a tv show. I've watched three seperate runs of Undertale, one who did a Neutral run first, then Pacifist, and I'm currently watching a Genocide run. I'm switching between Undertale and a Wind Waker run because I have problems focusing on something for too long.

I don't think it's very fair to diss people who watch Lets Plays, because I honestly enjoy them and find them fun. It allows me to keep up with my friends who do have the time to game, so I don't feel left out, which is honestly a very shitty feeling.

In the process of looking for sturdy EVA foam-type material to use for the shoulder pieces right now. After a lot of searching, I managed to find a hard plastic chest piece that's the perfect shape (hint: it's a piece of sports equipment) and I'm in the process of drilling the speaker holes and priming it for paint. I'm still in the design process for the waist pieces, but I do have the heart wired to glow with a simple on-off switch (I just need more electrical tape to keep it from shorting itself when the wires touch). Once my next paycheck comes in I'll be visiting the lycra store for silver fabric for his arms.

I really want to do something cool for the eyes, like led rings controlled by a remote or something like that, so the foam head is really great to hide all the needed components.

Like this fellow, I want to avoid makeup horror, but I'd love to attempt the more humanoid version. Since Mettaton is a robot, would a custom mask to simulate a metal facial structure be more recommended? Or would adhering individual pieces to simulate the most prominent metallic features be better?(since this robot is pretty expressive) Or is makeup just overall the best approach as long as it's done right?

I wouldn't go with a mask, unless you were going to go all phantom of the opera for the unfinished segment of MTT EX's face.

I've thought about using facial prosthetics for the cheekbone segments, but I don't think they'd be worth it. A more effective prosthetic would be to create the 'creases' in the face around the cheek and eye (think like smooth, not puckery "scars"), but because of how shallow they'd be, it's not really worth it for the 3D texture. Makeup is your most practical option, unless you're really good at sculpting & applying small prosthetics, and not so hot at creating the illusion of depth.

If i'm being honest my Mettaton is mostly a skill-building project to learn how to deal with eva foam, so I'm not putting too much stock in this, and i'm far from done, but something seems really ...off about it to me so far?
I know I fucked up the speaker hole placements because damn that rotary tool was more enthusiastic than expected, but if anyone can help me figure out what's fixable (without completely redoing), I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I did a Mettaton cosplay for some tiny little local event (so tiny there were zero photographers, hence shitty bathroom selfie that's all I got sorry). This is just thrown together in about a week or so, but I'm thinking of fixing it up a bit and wearing it to an actual con sometime.

Already planning:
- do the arms again from scratch (more metallic base material, better banding, nicer gloves)
- speaker/fan/whatever it is needs to stand out more

Any additional suggestions?

(The belt is just wonky from weird leg angle, it doesn't normally have that black gap.)

ah you're totally right, that gap does draw way too much attention. i'll figure out how to fix that asap. i'm pretty sure the symmetry thing is just the angle of my dressform at present though, since the pattern was mirrored and cut exactly

(I think I've figured out some of the weirdness too; the dressform has a longer torso than me by quite a bit and a slightly wider bust, so the proportions seem really off to me when I look at it like this compared to how they actually sit on me.)

Also before this thread completely dies, could i ask if you gulls think i should silver up that front belt piece a bit? I'm still going to add more of the the silver fabric underneath as the belt itself, but it just seems so...stark in contrast to everything else. Totally forgot to paint the black pointer-line on the dial on the right side too, it almost completely disappears when all white.

Mm, yeah, I see what you mean! Thanks for pointing it out. I think the judicious application of sandpaper will probably (hopefully) help in both cases.

Breastplate is worbla for the top layer, padded out with a few layer of cheap-ass craft foam underneath to give it some thickness. (I was totally rushing and probably overheated it desu, hence the lumpiness.) The finish is just a metallic spray paint.
