In general, it could be said that gurokawa is one big fashion covering everything ~somewhat~ casual that takes cute things and makes them morbid. I think it is similar like how lolita is one big fashion split into various themes, in case of gurokawa it would be spooky (halloween-like), doll, medical and dead (zombies, body parts, etc).

To be honest, I really hate the english term as "creepy cute" sounds like some 12yo would invent, the japanese guro part makes it sound more mature.

I think the most popular example would be Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan. The problem is that they usually don't get listed under the horror genre due to the comedy factor. Other examples that come to my mind would be Dai Mahou Touge (very short), Excel Saga (kind of), Higurashi but there doesn't seem to be too much as most manga series of this kind are more of an inside thing, otherwise we would have Pure Trance animated already.

So, I started making a gurokawa accessory on a whim with leftover dough from making shitty Christmas ornaments. It's an eyeball (go fucking figure) with tearducts.

1) It cracked in two places on the sclera. Can I use that to my advantage, or should I fill in the cracks? I'm considering sculpting bulging veins over it, but I don't have any sculpting tools anymore, so I'm doubtful of my ability to do it well.

2) Considering putting eyelids on it. If I do, what should I do about eyelashes?

3) Black bow, or pastel?

I guess it's not a huge deal if it turns out terrible, I'm not great at crafting anyway, but I'd love some ideas.

I have some creativity, but I'm very new to gurokawa. Which is why I'm asking for ideas. I do have some thoughts on things to do that'll step it up from a normal eye, and left the pupil appropriately hollow to accommodate whichever idea I go with.

But yeah, the dough isn't great. It's a homemade alternative to salt dough made from baking soda and cornstarch. I have a fistful leftover, figured I'd use it.

I can share some ideas because I made a couple of eye balls out of polymer clay - I added veins with the actually clay mold instead of painting it on. Make them 3D, it'll look slightly better. Unless you're a skilled painter.

Also practice painting miniature figures.

I was recommended a dough recipe for no-bake Christmas ornaments, and had some left over. Normally, I'd use Sculpy. Not that I sculpt much, this is my first time in around four years, and I have no tools.

I ended up filling in the cracks and adding eyelids, they're a non-issue now.

I do have some minis to paint. I'm really glad you mentioned that, I completely forgot about it.

Crowdsourcing ideas ahead of time for what sort of choices would better suit the fashion could prevent a future post that results in a million "you should've done ______" and "_____ would look so much better" replies. Since it's a sculpture and not digital art, it's not very prudent to power on solo and only take advice after the fact, because at that point you've wasted supplies and the art is no longer editable. You're lacking in practicality.

That's not to say there's anything wrong with an organic process and just getting things done, but there's definitely nothing wrong with asking for advice. And indecisiveness is absolutely not a mark of a lack of creativity. Considering the questions asked were "this, or that" questions and not "please spoon-feed me I will take all directions," it shows that thought was put into it already.
