My family will be visiting relatives in Florida for thanksgiving but I have work the next day (recreation not retail thank god) so I can't go. I'll probably dress up in lolita and do something with my bf. No thanksgiving related meets though sadly.

I love seeing these sugary carnival era sweet lolita pictures as the OP images, I'm glad it's not totally kill. I generally refer to it as "2010-12 AP sweet" but is there another way you refer to the vibe it gives off?
Like a solid with a square headdress, sugary carnival with a pony bag, and dolly cat with princess sleeves are all sweet, but very different at the same time.

Why has lolita gotten so costume-y in recent years? Even OTT sweet from 2010-2012 was still recognizable as an actual fashion. What people call OTT these days just looks like a costume to me. Nobody wears crowns/wings/scepters in real life, but they do carry bags and wear hair clips, so old OTT sweet just makes so much more sense to me.

I think referring to it by the year with a photo is a good way. Sort of like people classifying bustle shapes in the late 1800s instead of just saying 'bustle' when they had so many shapes and sizes. I think it's a distinctive and iconic look and I like and appreciate it even though I'd never wear it myself.

Like everyone said, I think extremely matchy-matchy coords with pastel wigs and lots of hair accessories can be seen as OTT. But using natural colored wigs and just a headbow and some clips shouldn't be considered OTT.
I like the idea of "sugary sweet" or "sugary carnival era" but I doubt it would catch on.

I'm still so in love with this style, it always reminds me of quirky cute Harajuku style as opposed to elegant Victorian lady style. Not that there's anything wrong with either. The pictures are always of girls shopping, getting lunch, taking purikura. It seems like so much fun.

It's really interesting to see OTT sweet described as not being OTT, because that's exactly what it was at the time. Just because trends have now gone ever further over the top doesn't mean we should start referring to the OTT sweet era (which was hugely important in the short history of the fashion and drew in a lot of wearers) by a different name.

Simple sweet isn't this in my opinion, it's more plain with no wig or big accessories, prints or solid dresses, simple bags.

I already posted about reddit in another thread, but I prefer the posting, formatting, upvotes/downvotes, account system of reddit as opposed to the god awful mess that is Facebook.

It gets alot of newbies since egl died, it's the next easiest thing to find. I think if people just stopped shit posting and put in some effort, it could be a really great community with a far less clunkier format than EGL.

The newbs/shit posts are outweighing any content that may be had though, and I'm worried this horrified BTB newb is going to scare away any actual posters.

Subreddit moderator here, what kinds of things would you like to see change in the subreddit? We are already working on setting up AutoModerator for monthly topics, and there was a request for a Secret Santa. I'd also be open to adding more to the wiki, but it seems like a lot of extra work when other great resources have already been compiled.

The biggest thing we can do for the subreddit is to join, contribute quality content, and downvote bad advice. There are a lot of newbies and brolitas in the sub since it is reddit, and not enough experienced people to help them properly.

Hellolace died/is dying, so you might want to replace the part of the intro that links to it. I wonder if it's useful to actually have a regular "beginners thread" (instead of just a link) with how to lolita written/linked in the opening post and then invites newbies to ask any questions they might have in the thread itself. Kind of like a mashup between a how-to-lolita intro and "dumb questions" thread.

As for the rest, you've got a point in that the content contributed by the redditors determine the quality of the forum. There's not a lot you can do other than post topics that invite people to post interesting things.

A 'what's currently on your Lolita mind' thread, a 'what are you loving right now' post, a day to post and give concrit, with maybe 3 comments mandatory before posting since several Lolitas get no reply to asks for concrit in FB groups, and a 'jimmies rustled' containment thread. An ongoing lifestyle thread might get some people to hang there too. Maybe something funny like 'itaburger' but insist they decently concrit each thing posted.

Personally, I had skimmed it when someone linked me to it, saw basically a bunch of beginner stuff and mis-information and just never went back. But it's a good format and I like that better than FB. I'm getting to the point where I don't like community type FB groups at all, just cof and the informative groups.

Yes, of course i like her too!I love mostly people that wear AP that way, always sweet but more toned down, akin to fairy kei or larme if has ginghams or organza sleeves/details that aren't OTT. I love also 2010-2012 styled sweet prints along with "mini" skirts from AP, they are so confy and cute. Not suitable for someone that is too tall (they won't look lolita!) but for my height are a tiny bit over my knee as "lolita" appropriate salopettes. I've found it works better if you match the exact shade and opacity of the tights to the socks, so the whole thing looks like a single pair of opaque tights, and people have to look closely to see that it's socks over tights. So, black socks over opaque black tights, not thin ones.

If you have a lot of contrast between your socks and tights it's commonly nitpicked (check out the cof threads or ita threads, there's usually someone nitpicking it)

I have two OPs, a corset JSK, a vest, and skirt from them. The OPs have black chiffon trims, the JSK is black with sage green applique, and the vest/skirt combo are solid black poly twill and chiffon. All of the above are true blacks, but they're cool-toned, so they'll often photograph blue if you ramp up the exposure to show details.

AP USA charges more for the items, plus you'll have to pay sales tax (at least in the state I'm in). The last thing I bought from AP would have been $60 more from AP US w/o shipping vs. buying through tenso with EMS shipping.

Unless their terms say they will invoice/ship in x amount of time, it's up to you to communicate that to the seller/make sure they can ship it to you in time, if you needed the item quickly. 3 days is a pretty long while to go without even an invoice though, so I would send a courtesy message regardless. But have a backup just in case for whatever you needed.

The smelly clothes might not be the sellers fault, though. A lot of clothes from both Japan and China tend to pick up this characteristic chemical smell, I don'tt know where it comes from. Might be something in the air when the shopping services pack it, might be moth balls, or they pick it up in the cargo hold with chemicals reacting when the airplane is pressurised/depressurised. It seems to happen to even new clothes from taobao, not just Japan.

So if you've bought something with a "very slight odor", stands to reason what arrives at your doorstep is going to be a mix of body odor that was incubated in a box for at least one week with nowhere to go, plus that chemical smell. That's gonna reek pretty badly, even though the odor may have been pretty slight when the original seller sent it to your SS.

I got a cutsew from axes femme and it had the worst chemical smell. I washed it, and it didn't help, the smell then transferred to the sweater next to them in the drawer. I put them in the freezer, but it's still there. That has never happened before.

Incidentally, how do I get rid of it?
