So gulls, couldn't find a non-archived hair general.

Question: what is the name of the colour of the hair at the base of her head? I love the whole look of this but no idea how to start dying it to get it like this. Same length hair only black (dyed - naturally redhead)
>>
champagne pink

>dyed - naturally redhead
wasting this natural gift...why anon?
>>
>>8699057
It's never really looked right - it may sound odd but my natural hair doesnt really actually suit me - it's not like a normal ginger - it's dull and mousy
>>
Go to a hairdresser whoop knows what they're doing. Not only will they know how to mix Colors to get that one but your hair wont get as fried from the bleach. Going from black to that light is a process.

Currently attempting to dye my hair - using a dye remover right now but it seems to be doing... nothing - is this normal? Does it all just get washed out when I rinse it?
>>
>>8699276
Maybe take a look at faux bob tutorials anon?
>>
>>8699062
Not the same anon, but I know how you feel. I have sandy blonde hair but it is ash-y and my skin tone is warm/neutral so I look sick with my natural hair. What works for me though is using a gloss to tone my colour to look more golden. Maybe look into glosses? They are like toning conditioners - AMAZING!
>>
>>8699419
Ahh, I shall check them out! Currently stripping my black hairdye out like the other anon and it seems like my natural hair is starting to poke through.
>>
Recently went to the hairdresser and got my hair bleached an dyed. They dyed my hair a colour that was way more red than I wanted. How long do you have to wait before you can dye it again? I'm not really liking this colour. ;_;

This is really nice - thank you for sharing
>>
I have very fine hair that tangles quite easily. Any detanglers or shampoos you gulls would recommend?
>>
>>8699649
I got my hair dyed red a while back ago and it was really red at first but it faded over time and turned out quite nice. I would let your hair fade a little and then decide if it's still too red.
>>
>>8699831
Have you tried baby shampoo and conditioner? I use Johnsons Baby and I find them good - smell good too. Made fro newborns so it's soft and for fine hair. I don't know if Johnsons is a thing outside of the UK or not...
>>
>>8699276
This one looks like waves and half of it pinned up like a faux bob

>>8699278
>>8699282
These are similar (random loops of hair pinned up, base is wavy) and both have a hairband braid which was quite a popular 90s thing and can probably be found in books in the library as well as online. The second one has an extra braid.

>>8699286
This looks like it's been looped around itself in a similar way to >>8699704 but with a larger "roll". I wonder if there are clip in hairpieces to get that volume.
>>
>>8699834
I still don't understand how they could mess up this badly. I went in there asking for an aubergine colour (but lighter). I even brought references, but it's almost orange now..

I guess I'll just wait a few weeks more for fading. Thanks Anon!
>>
>>8699903
sounds like they didn't actually tone it, you need to tone it to get the yellow out or it ruins the color and mixes with the blonde.
>>
>>8699916
Ahh yeah that's true! I'll hop by another salon this week and ask them for more info I guess. Thanks!
>>

Any tips on how to pull bangs like this off? I've had them before but i just end up hating them because i never really know how to work with them
is there a trick to getting them to look so soft and flowy or does it depend on the hair type?

Is it a fantasy color? Good luck getting it out if it is, those are stains not dyes. You need bleach
>>
>>8699831
I have very long, fine hair. It is also very delicate when wet. My favorite leave-in conditioner by Paul Mitchell usually does the job. Also doesn't leave it greasy. The Argan oil is awesome too, but dat pricetag. A lot of people swear by It's a 10 but I found it filmy and ineffective.
>>
>>8701150
No it was normal black dye in there before - it all came out and my hair was left as my natural colour so I could then bleach it
>>
>>8701136
You could use brown mascara on them.
>>
>>8701136
You could try using eyebrow mascara. Most korean brands such as etude house or the face shop make them in lighter colours like blonde and light brown.

Requesting hair styles for thick long hair that doesn't involve a curling iron. Please and thanks.
>>
>>8699880
Yeah I'm just having so much trouble understanding HOW they pin it in such a way that gives volume. Ofc I use my real hair and not a wig so that could be an issue, although my hair is rather thick... if only there was a picture of what the back looks like.

Thank you so much for the suggestions though.
>>
>>8701444
i know that kind of bang is really popular in korea so maybe you'll be able to find a tutorial by a western kpop fan to achieve that kind of look
the term that is used is "see through bangs"
>>
I need confirmation on my worst fear from you guys. My hairline is quite stubborn. When I've had bangs before, it quite simply just makes part of it stand right up, even if it's a heavy bang. Is there ANYTHING I can do about that? I really just wanna have cute bangs, and it suits my face, too...
>>
>>8701629
If you leave your hair in braids to give it those waves and use a bit of hairspray or product to hold them in I suspect the volume will be a lot easier to get. If your hair is thick and heavy it will tend to lay flat without product.

>>8702078
What have you tried to get them to sit flat? If you are dedicated to the cause and willing to use product and heat styling on your bangs daily, and can find a combination that works for you then go for it
>>
Any recommendations on good, natural looking clip in bangs/hair pieces? My hair is a moderate length but curly so cutting a fringe and straightening the life out of it frequently would result in rather damaged hair. But I do straighten my hair for lolita so would prefer a clip in fringe.
>>
>>8701377
>>8701444
I've found it makes a really big difference if you bring in a photo of a white girl with the hairstyle you want as opposed to an Asian girl (assuming you are white). I've wanted a blunt-cut fringe with separate longer side bangs for a while, like a hime cut but softer, and hairdressers kept fucking it up or telling me it would look bad on me or wouldn't work with my hair type because I'm not Asian. Then I finally found a picture of a blonde white woman with the same style and boom, suddenly it was no problem!

Also keep in mind that bobs/bangs like that are usually styled that way by curling and blowdrying them. It could be that your hairdresser did cut it the right way but just didn't style it right to achieve the look you want.
>>
Does anyone have hair styles, preferably to match sweet styles, for medium length very thin hair? I usually just put it up in piggytails but I feel like its getting repetitive and I hate wearing wigs.
>>
>>8702107
I got mine from some random Chinese seller on eBay and it's surprisingly high quality (especially for the price), it has a very natural look. The only catch is finding one that matches your hair color perfectly.
>>
>>8702129
>>8702107
I've considered going to a hairdresser and having them colour my hair and a fake bang at the same time, the only issue is i don't know if they would do it on any clip in, or if they'd refuse cause they'd want to sell me theirs.
>>
>>8702120
Tie your hair into a bun and cover it with a clip-on ponytail/bun, or add extensions and curl that shit. With most j-fashion, especially lolita, you're going to need a decent amount of volume in your hair to balance out the rest of your outfit.
>>
>>8702129
Would you mind linking me anon? I bought a couple of ebay and they were quite plasticy looking in person
>>
>>8702134
If it's got a metal clip, then they won't be able to do it - you shouldn't mix metal with dye. I accidentally dyed my hair with a hairpin in one time - my god never again

Thanks so much anons, this was actually really helpful. I wasn't familiar with the phrase 'see-through fringe/bangs' either and that has helped so much in my search - I managed to find a 'white girl' pic that's very close to what I'm after to go along with the other example pictures as well.

I sometimes feel a bit silly sometimes only showing pics of Asian women when i get my hair cut which probably screams 'weeb' but there's just something so cute, soft and feminine about Asian hair trends that you don't see crop up so much in general western media (where you're more likely to see different ethnicities).

Hey, beauty therapist here. A very common thing people do is get their lashes/brows tinted, and normally this only provides a very basic tint over dark brows/lashes and won't lighten them, but you can usually bleach them and then tint over them. You can generally buy at-home kits from your local pharmacy, or look online.
>>
Hey gulls, my hair is currently extremely yellowy. It looks very bad. I have ashy light brown roots (they're blended though, with highlights.) I was wondering how I could get my hair to be ashy/gray blonde instead of super yellowy and gross?

I realize I would have to use a violet toner, but will that work on my hair if I'm at between a level 7 and 8? I wouldn't mind coloring my hair a very ashy light brown, but I don't want to drown out the highlights I have going, they give my hair dimension.

Would a violet toned or brown toned gloss help me? Sorry for so many questions, I apologize if I'm being unclear. I just want to get rid of this ugly yellow color and get closer to an ashier, light brown color without compromising my hair too much.
>>
I feel like I may have asked this before but I didn't get a reply.

Is there an archive anywhere for hime cuts? I want to try it out but I'd like to see what it looks lile on many different faces. Also I want at least a few pictures to show my stylist. I searched tumblr, insta, and pinterest but there's not many examples of the cut out there. Maybe it goes by a different name now?

Maybe a dumb question, but here it goes. I have a lot of hair but really thin. If I don't blowdry my hair then it dries stringy, which I hate. On top of that, I end up getting greasy looking hair by the next day. I am using an Argan Shampoo with no sulfate for my hair, and I don't wash it everyday to prevent even more grease. What can I do to make my hair nice looking?
>>
Could anyone post hairstyles..

>>
>>8703323
Have you tried washing your hair say, only once every four or so days? Hair usually tends to get greasier because of over-washing.
>>

I also used to use a gray dye sometimes, or dilute permanent black dye and rinse it through my hair.

I know

But its the best I can describe it. The main thing is the separation of layers making it not one flat mass which is what I have now. Similar to a lot of the shorter asian styles ive seen posted, but I just dont have that volume.

Ive seen some stuff like it in kpop but never natural.

I just want to know whats possible before I try explaining this to a hairdresser.

I have fine straight brown hair, but its rather thick. Pictures of girls hair wouldnt be useless.

Also, anyone know any sites to import brands from the EU to the US. The chemical is banned there.

>>

Like the other anon said, just get your hair layered That's what gives it the floofy thick look, because your hair is not technically "flat" that way. You can style it with some mousse or volumizer like that other anon said.
Look up "layered men's haircut" and bring a picture with you to the salon or whatever.
Don't worry anon, it's pretty simple to achieve!

Depends anon, is she noticing anything your not, like splits and dry scalp? Did you ask her why? Probably she's noticing that your hair is changing. Like its becoming more intolerable to products you used to use?

Best thing to do is feel and listen to your hair. If its fine now, then I don't see why you should stop.
However, coconut oil is a protein, and if you have too much protein it can make your hair brittle and dry, so probably she noticed that your hair may not need anymore protein. Oh well, listen/feel to your hair anon!

Is it possible to wear lolita and otome, even with a shorter cut like a pixie or a boku?
>>
>>8706620
Definitely for otome because it's still a hairstyle that can be styled in quite a cutesy way, but for lolita you'll have to think about balancing out the skirt poof with something - berets and full sized hats can be useful here. I've seen some lolita outfits look ok with small hairclips in a pixie but they're typically more streamlined and vintage inspired rather than old school or more frilly OTT looks - for those a wig is probably your best bet

the hell is wrong with your mother(?), that is some fucked up power trip shit right there. Sounds like getting out when you can would be for the better anyway - when she comes crying for help later on in life you will have every right to tell her where to go.

I think more of an appropriate 'fuck you' would be to stand up for yourself in the future and not give in to any more unreasonable demands, that's the mature response that actually stands you in good stead for the rest of your life, even if doing the short hair thing may feel good temporarily.
>>
>>8707596
I don't have the money to move out yet, but I'm getting there. Plus, it just feels wrong being outwardly disrespectful to her or my father. You can't argue with my mom, that's just the way it is. She gets her way or she does nothing but yell at you until you cave in. It's easier to just get shit over and done with to shut her up. Belive me, I tried standing up for myself as a teenager but it just made things worse and way more unbearable than it is now.

He's lived in southern Italy, then Canada and then west-coast USA, and LA has a more similar climate to south Italy than Canada so I'm not sure climate is the issue either. Could it be the stress affecting his hair or a bad diet? He has family issues, could it be effecting it? He wants to be able to make himself look nice and I've told him to find a curl defining cream, but I wonder if you guys think he may need something else? Any recs? (Also I hate to sound like a cheap-o but he's on a budget since he lives with family, they're 'immigrants' after all and are struggling.)
As for myself, I cut off all my hair in 2012 and it's now grown to halfway down my back, it's wavy/straight (formerly curly when I was younger), but I'm wondering if there's a way to make it thicker? It used to be thicker, but I feel like stressing about things over the last few years made it thin, or when I shaved it off. Other than that it's perfectly fine.

Usually the expense of a product doesn't matter. If its frizzy, probably its dry and loosing moisture quicker than he thinks. Most products are made out of the same thing anyway.

Tell him to try sulfate free shampoo, or or but out shampoo or try Co-washing (conditioner only washing). The climate could be an issue too.

>but I'm wondering if there's a way to make it thicker?

I know there are some good hair thickening shampoos out there.
i'm trying to remember the name of one that begins with an O. It was very popular here with people who had lost hair due to chemo.

Cheap shampoo will fuck up your hair. Especially if it's colored. If you have to use drugstore shit, go for organix or mane and tail.
>>
>>>>8712993
It really depends, and that should be based on a case to case basis. Unless there are collective complaints about a certain company.
Take my hair for example. It is kimky(meaning less moisture, plus I personally have high maintenance hair), and I've tried more expensive products and they didn't do shit. Tried under ten bucks shampoos from Walmart and other pharmacies, and they are working great! For example, V05 is cheap as living hell (a dollar and some cents), and so far it's been getting good reviews, and my hair seems to be responding to it well.

I understand not everyone's hair is the same, but it doesn't matter the cost of the product (not sure about colored since you mentioned it, I'm completely natural). What matters is that you're picking products that were made for your your hair type, texture, porosity, and density.
>>
>>8708444
His hair is probably frizzy because:

His hair needs moisture - he should condition his hair every time he wets his hair and also apply a leave in conditioner if necessary. He only needs to use shampoo once/twice a week, if he's using it any more than that it can be very drying on curly hair, thus the frizz. Some coconut oil would be nice as a treatment or just to apply a small amount as a serum when it's dry.

He is brushing his hair - curly hair should really only be ~finger combed~ in the shower with conditioner and that is it. Brushing or combing or even touching the hair when it's dry breaks up the curl formation and can make it frizzy. The drying process is integral to how curly hair sets, so as it dries, the less messing around with it, the better.
>>
>>8713464
But my hair is the most brittle when wet, I thought that was the norm for everyone? If I don't brush it (usually in conjunction with fingercombing) it gets really fucking tangled and separating that causes more damage. The reason I got my length was because I stopped letting my hair be a bush all the time and beushed it out to make sure each strand gets even coated with oil, discourage snagging and to check for breakage. Nothing wrong with a paddle brush unless you're a 4c maybe but absolutely no to manipulating wet hair. In fact water causes my hair more problems than anything

Hey anons, I've looked up a bit of stuff online and tried a few different things but I was hoping for some other opinions!

I've been growing my hair for about 4 years and all my life I've had crazy thick strong hair. I used to have it cropped pretty short in high school and had it bleached blonde and dyed many colours.

It's been grown out for a while now and I started bleaching again about 6-7 months ago- my whole head and then just the roots as they grew out (every 1-2 months)
Never had a problem with it, strong as ever. Little frizzy but that was normal.

I bought a bottle of coconut oil to combat frizziness and it worked great for a while!

But out of nowhere my hair is now super brittle and has been breaking off horribly! My once thick hair is now much thinner and I'm very upset by it!

I've stopped using coconut oil, and I am tying my hair up for work much lower than normal (as I found that where I normally have it held is where it's breaking off)

Any solutions to making it strong again?
>>
>>8713477
I'm just talking from my personal experience. I have 3a type hair, and my hair was tangle free and had very little frizz when I only finger combed it with conditioner in the shower and rinsed it out and let it air dry, then used a leave in condtioner. I didn't shampoo. For the record, I don't comb my hair and try tear away at the knots, I am gentle about it so my hair isn't snapping when I finger comb (that's the idea with finger combing, it's treating the hair gently and you're not trying to remove every possible tangle each time anyway). Following this routine It got to a point where I had little to no tangles occurring anyway, so it just worked really well for me. My hair was long, thick, healthy, had very few split ends and very resilient.

For the record, I'm talking about my hair in the past tense because I don't wear it curly at the moment.
>>
>>8713385
V05 did wonders for my hair after i dyed it! Its so cheap, Here i get it for less than a dollar. I use that and suave and they both do good for my hair. Something being more expensive doesn't mean its going to be better.

Does anyone have experience with Pravana hair colors? How bad is the bleeding? I bought silver on an impulse and now I'm worried I'll be staining everything purple for weeks after.
>>
If I bleach my hair platinum blonde on a tuesday, will I have enough time to tone it by friday?
>>
>>8713385
Enjoy your bottle of water and wax buildup. Seriously though, ulta sells actually decent shampoos for like $12. Doesn't have to be an $80 liter as long as it doesn't sit in the aisle next to the condoms and yeast infection treatment.

The colored hair thing is because anyone with dyed hair who is reading this might not know that your head and shoulders (the worst by far) is going to strip out your color. It's cheaper in the long run to pay $12 for a bottle of shampoo than to pay to have your $30+ hair redone every month instead of 6-8 weeks.

Depends if you can get light enough to tone it in one step. It would take me 3 weeks from my natural Asian black because I need to let my scalp build up enough oil between bleaches to not give myself chemical burns, and it takes multiple rounds of bleaching to get past bright orange yellow

Get it done at a salon, especially if your hair's very fine. It is possible to get from dirty blnde to platinum in one jump if your hair takes dye easily, but make sure you don't have it done too often.

Don't wear your hair in the same style repeatedly, it weakens the cortex of the hair at that particular point over time if it's a often used hairstyle. Change up your hairstyle so it isn't twisted/folded/bundle the same way all the time. Also look into a keratin treatment for your hair to help strengthen the cuticle of your hair. Bleach damages the cuticle of the hair and can hasten hair damage.

Does anyone know of temporary alternatives to bleaching? I have a nearly identical natural cut/texture to the character I'll be cosplaying (pic related), but I'm also a very dark brunette and my hair is resistant to bleach and dye. Would rather not have to buy a wig that's basically my everyday hair in a different shade.

>>
>>8718674
Use the white hair spray you can find at halloween stores, I'm sure they'll give you the results you want.
>>
>>8718674
With very few exceptions, you should pretty much always buy a wig for cosplay, even if your hair is the exact shade/style as the character. Natural hair is inferior to wigs in cosplay because it is not as full and tends to go flat, requiring more maintenance throughout the day. You can abuse the hell out of a wig and put all sorts of shit in it to keep it styled for the day; you probably aren't going to go to such extremes for your real hair for fear of permanently damaging it. Also, remember that you are wearing a costume - in the way that wigs look off when wearing normal clothes, the opposite also applies.

That being said, if you want to have white hair for the sake of having white hair, go for it! My hair is a blonde-white now (from asian black) and I love it. It took me about 1.5 months to get it to this level because my hair is stubborn, but it's certainly not impossible to achieve. Once you're at this level keeping it here is also easier so long as you regularly touch up your roots.
>>
Depends how dark it is like you cant expect dark brown hair to go blond in one go. You usually need to bleach it or to bleach bath it (bleach and shampoo added in to damp hair section to section). If you arent comfortable with doing hair or have little to no clue how bleach and such works please visit a hairdresser :) Its better than to end up with a burnt rainbow hair of despair which usually comes with bleach.
>>
>>8699037
They call it Taro.
I want to do it too, despite not being trendy anymore. I'm reading up on it, and I believe what I need to do is use a creme peroxide at about 10%, or vol 10, which is not enough to make my brown hair blonde, but enough to deposit some purple to tint it. I aim to make it a bit like the middle girl in pic related.

>inb4 dont do it anon
I have long hair so I'm not afraid to fuck up a home job, I've been looking for an excuse to cut my hair to a pixie length anyway. Plus if I went to the hairdresser they'll probably charge me $300 for something that comes out neon purple or whatever.
>>
>>8722163
I've had that colour in the past, or something like it. I mixed and diluted pink and purple dye, then put it over my medium blonde hair. My hair is naturally ashy so it suited me. My hair was a bit gold when I put it over but the purple cancelled it out. I think the thing is not to put it over super light hair like your normally would for bright dyes so that sounds about right.
>>
>>8722163
Peroxide cream by itself won't deposit purple. The toner is what pits the purple tone. You could still treat your hair with 10 vol and then mix a semi permanent purple with conditioner to as and after treatment/toner and get that effect though.
>>
can someone post some suggestions for me? i'm so terrible at choosing hairstyles that look good on me.
the way my hair is now, it's a bit longer on one side than the other after i've been growing it out, and the back is shortest, only coming down to the colloar of an average t-shirt. i kinda want to keep that general style with it a bit shorter in the back, but my goal is also to keep as much of he length as possible because i'm tryingto grow i out again.
i def don't have the face for just a parted down the middle, raven from een titans style, but blunt bangs have never really looked that great on me either. although i'm not sure if its just because i've never gone to a place that does them well.

Is it ok to selfpost face? I would like to see what kind of wig would suit me best i am at loss.
I want to look young and cute but not childish. My face is oval but long flat straight hair makes me look older even with blunt bangs. Too long will drag my face down.
Sooo...shoulder lenght and some curls? With slighty side swept bangs?

2 things: I have really long thick hair, some damage from bleaching and coloring, and my hair gets really knotted up even after I spend a lot of time brushing it and applying products. I'm considering getting my hair layered or thinned so it's not so thick, is this a bad idea?

2. My hair is pink, and I love it, but it washes out so quickly to a peach color that I hate. I want a neutral pink shade, does anyone know if a good dye?

Hey gals,
I want to change my hair. For the last year I have been covered in an allergic reaction. I felt gross and awful and have let myself go. It hurt to move and couldn't use makeup/hair products. Now that I am better I want to come back strong. I am thinking about chopping it off or maybe changing the color. It is brushed out but it can be real wavy, curly when short. My face seems long to me so tips to give it side volume would be great (inb4 5 head)

Anywho, any suggestions on what would look good?

Something like this would be totally cute I think, volume at the sides with soft (ie not super thick and blunt) bangs.

You could pull of the relaxed wavy bob thing without even having to curl your hair - I'm kinda envious! There are a lot of nice picture examples of 'Asian' wavy bobs out there too for more inspiration.

Glad to hear you're doing better anon.
>>
Kind of embarassing...but does anyone else base their hair style/cut off of their current favorite character? Like, when I want my hair to go short, I try to get a cut close to whatever charcter I really like, and then I lowkey feel more confident. Or if I grow it out long it's because "x character has long hair and they are a pretty and wonderful seeming person." Just kill me, I'm such a weaboo why do I do this

Your face is too long for a Bob. I say you leave it as is, and cut blunt bangs. If you're really set on the bob, blunt bangs are a must. It'll make your face/ head look less HUGE.

Whut, a cut like that would really shorten her face and I hear the 'get blunt bangs' advice way too much, quite often it just emphasises how long the lower half of the face is. On this occasion though, I think she could take heavier bangs because a lot of the length appears to be from the forehead but even then, I don't think super blunt and heavy is the way to go, more something like pic related.

Unless someone can pull off the liv tyler elfin goddess thing, keeping hair shorter to add width to the sides of the face is usually a good idea.

>>
>>8722317
Thinned out sounds like the way to go but it depends on how you style your hair too. Best bet would be go to a hairdresser and asking them about your options. Plus they can evaluate the extent of the damage.

To stop fading don't wash your hair with hot water that often, just do the roots. And put dye in your conditioner, I generally do a 30/70 or 50/50 dye conditioner combo depending on the season and let it sit for at least 10 mins. More often it's how you wash your hair rather than the dye itself.

This is my hair after going out to get the mail, it goes crazy. I want to keep it looking 'normal' per se and not a scene styled cut like they usually do to thin it. Ask for long layers. If you leave your regular conditioner in for 10 mins already no need to do it for longer, but if you don't I would recommend putting it in at the start of your shower and rinsing it out last thing. You can still shampoo your scalp with conditioner in.

You need toner or straight up purple dye. It's okay, purple shampoo didn't work for me either, but I've heard that it will work better after continuous use

Do you have Manic Panic in Oz? They make a toner called Virgin Snow that's super easy to use. Otherwise, L'Oreal makes a thing called Brass Banisher that works kind of okay. no. she just needs to buy cheap purple dye and lighten it with conditioner. buying a pre-made toner is usually a bad way to go cause it's basically just that for twice the price or more.

So I was browsing through a blog that showcases hair done in Asian salons (asiahair101.tumblr.com) and came across pic related.
