Honestly, I wish there was some form of red light warning or something for newer UK cosplayers about Mike Towers. I've been on the scene for about a year now and only recently got to know about his shite.

I've only been to one AL event and it was this year and it was of course-shit. But guess what? I'm fucked to go to another one of his events this time as I organised something with someone who had nobody else to go with to go to the Halloween Manchester meet up he's holding this weekend. FML. I originally didn't want to go but thought it's a friend in need so I'll go along as it's a free event. Then I read the ED article about him and read some old forum posts. This guy is an absolute wank stain of the highest caliber, Christ on a bike. I don't want to be seen anywhere near an AL event for the rest of my life.

I don't know if to tell the person I'm going with I don't want to go now because I know about all of this bullshit but I feel like they're going to dismiss all of this as gossip as they aren't as into the scene as I am? Like they don't go on here or anything and I imagine if they aren't as well versed in the UK scene they're going to dismiss it as petty gossip and insist we still go. What do /cgl/?

I already know what's probably going to happen.

There will be a shitty meetup at a park (I didn't go to that last time as it was pissing down that day), then the venue will start to fill up with people from the park-meet, then we'll all just be sat around getting drinks in until the shoddy 'masquerade' that is judged by someone who doesn't even think to hem their fucking garment and a few other no-name guests starts. And then for no apparent reason everyone will start dancing or some shit on stage. I left early the first time because the event was so bad, so I don't know what he does after that. I think it was a quiz or something they had lined up.

If I do go though I will report, though it will probably pointless as from what I've read literally every event he does is like this. Might just get shitfaced, it is Halloween after all and as long as my money is going to the bar it's hosted at and not that bastards slimy hands I can rest easy.

What is everyone opinions on the tightness of security this year?
I understand why this has happened, but i feel like they went overboard with ticket checking. I usually come from the east entrance and to get into the actual con i had to be checked for tickets twice with barriers everywhere you turned.
I know loserconning is definitely a thing at mcm this i feel as if they've taken away most of the fun by stressing so much on paying £50 just to sit around in the excel center. Now you pay that much just to stand outside.
